The japanese word for cat is NEKO. But the CHINESE word for it is MAOMAO (or at least one of the ways to call it). Remember, Apotechary Diaries happens in a fictional country resembling CHINA 👍🏽

This season looks like it "takes it slow", but when all the pieces start to fall in place you have to realize "that was genious!" And Apothecary Diaries is based on a Light Novel Series, but there is also a Manga adaptation being published in parallel 👍🏽

Also the cat’s name Maomao uses the Chinese word for fur instead of cat like our main girl

Apothecary Diaries is based on a light novel series - both the anime and the manga. As of right now, volume 16 of the LN is expected to be released in a week or so (ironically, vol 14 in English will be released on the same day), and if they keep adapting at the same pace they adapted the first two seasons, we're talking 8 24-episode seasons based on what's been written alone to this point.

first half of season 2 was hella slow and not at all as engaging as First half of S1 ( which was slow as well but set up the characters and dynamics really nicely), but second half is picking up pace so far so im letting it cook and hoping for a similar heureka moment as S1 with Suirei.

Okay so a few funfacts about names because i love when Japanese authors to this Mind you, reading is not always taken from japanese: Maomao = Catcat, pretty obvious, cats are curious animals Jinshi = 9th sign of chinese calendar (monkey) + pronoun 'him'. Monkey sign is symbol of intelligence, adaptability and vitality. Just like Jinshi is adapting his approach by acting as an eunuch. Gyokuyou = Precious stone, used especially for jade, just like her eyes Lihua = Pear blossoms, I guess the author means her pears in full bloom lol Loulan = It goes to Loulan Kingdom's name. If you look at their history it makes sense, but explaining it here will be spoiling. Xiaolan = Little orchid, it is made from the same kanji from Xiaomao (little cat) and Loulan (lan is orchid) Lakan = Arhat, basically man who gained insight - someone who reached nirvana. I really love how the authors sometimes spoil characters just using their names. It's really using kanji to it's advantage.

i agree. They're called "house" cats for a reason. why even own a pet if you're not gonna actually take care of it? it makes no sense and is, imo, disrespectful towards the cat.

With main roads, it depends on how busy it is and how many main roads are nearby. Having a garden is also ideal. Cats aren't dumb, they will learn where is safe and where isn't. Cats don't usually go missing for days, especially when they are well fed. Just be prepared for the 'presents' they will gift you at around 2 yrs old.

If you like comfy, relaxing anime, maybe try Natsume Book Of Friends (Natsume Yuujinchou). Plenty of episodes and still ongoing. Also mostly episodic. If you do check it out, watch it subbed.
