Fun fact the Familiar Master guy Zatouji is actually a reference to Ash Ketchum from Pokemon 🤣 (in Japanese his name is Satoshi). The author is a big Pokémon fan. Even Rias’s name was taken from a Pokémon’s name 😂. It’s a reference to the Pokémon Garchomp. In Japanese that Pokémon is called Gaburias.

What was that about 100 girlfriends being lewder than dxd? This is the worst ep of season 1, to the point it's almost filler. But don't worry, the rest of the eps are what sold me on this series because they go so unexpectedly hard. Also, don't worry about the Rating Games, unlike the name they are epic af. I'm sure you will be seeing one soon.

Seeing an undine in this episode reminded me that there is one in Delicious in Dungeon. I guess this was the first anime I saw have an undine in it. Totally forgot about it though, because it has been years since I’ve seen this anime. Luke should definitely watch Delicious in Dungeon.

Man I am so glad I'm rewatching this with you, cause I missed so many references when I first watched it, when I knew no Japanese, and hadn't seen many things in sub. The Familiar Master is a parody of Satoshi (aka Ash Ketchum) from Pokemon. This time around I got that immediately on the "Getto da ze", which is the "chatch em all" catchphrase in Japanese. And the name is really close to Satoshi (Literally only differing in the Dakuten in the Sa and Shi turning them to Za and Ji)

I think if you play any rated games or sports "Rating Game" takes on a whole new meaning. They use chess as a system for investing their power levels, so a rated game makes sense. I play Spades which uses the same ranking system and even though I'm only 1912 (Class A) I still have to be careful and think about who I'm playing when doing a rated game online. Unrated games are much, much more relaxed (and a good source of cash if you can hustle casual players!) So having a sports-style competition means that they're not risking their standing in society as they would with a "Rating Game" (If I am understanding things so far.)

actually there was a Pikachu reference before this episode already 😅 the doll that Issei got Asia from the claw machine was called "Racchu" as a reference to Raichu and Pikachu cuz the author loves Pokemon. That was on top of Zatouji being a reference to Ash Ketchum (Satoshi) 🤣 and Rias's name being a reference to Garchomp (Gaburias)

While the sub if great, I highly recommend the dub. While its memier, it is funny as fuck. But have fun either way, always love seeing DxD reactions

As much as I love the dub, they do change the dialogue a bit. Even in these first 7 episodes they made a lot of changes in the dub

yeah the dub is funny but i dont like how much of the dialogue they change from the original and how the wrong translations mess ome things up. You end up missing some canon details that way.

im honestly loving the reactions, i do however think that the english dub is so much funnier and it still has great emotion. if you ever have the time check out some bits of the dub so you can judge for yourself.
