When your girlfriend doesn't wait for you for 15 years but your killer does 😂

Anarchy

The second i finished the last vod you posted this, W timing fr

DRACO

Knowing how it all ends, I laughed all the entire time when Luke denying his theory of the murderer and his reactions are hilarious.

Raydough

No masterpiece in the description? I have a funny feeling…

Some0neElse

Ah yes, the Kayo thing was a big outrage back then. Many people didnt like the fact that she would just pop up with a baby in her hands and even more so because the father is someone she never even interacted with prior to her going to live with her grandma. To me The rooftop scene and interaction felt kinda off when i first watched it but as i rewatched it a few times it no longer bothered me. BTW this was cut from the anime but added in the live action: The reason the teacher gives for what he is doing is "slightly different". In short Yashiro had a big brother who would abuse physically an sexually younger girls. His brother would also beat him if he didnt keep his mouth shut or didnt help him lure girls until one day his brother accidentally strangled a girl and tried to frame Yashiro. Yashiro however outsmarted his brother, killed him and made it look like his brother felt guilt for the girl's death and hanged himself. Thats on top of the hamster story

Sinbad_Deity

You're right, there is no excuse for her behaviour, but their is a reason, she isn't like that for no reason, but the reasoning cannot be used as an excuse.

SouldeLuna

Glad you enjoyed it. There were some changes to the original like additional background story for the killer (which is not that important imho). The biggest thing is would like to mention was the doctors wanted to stop the life support for Satoru and the mom said "no F YOU". W MOM. She also told Kayo to live her own life, to not wait for Satoru because they did not know IF and when he would wake up. W Satoru for rescuing so many people and sacrificing his own time. He learned from the best mom.

Anarchy

Satoru’s mom also told Kayo to go live her own life and not wait for him so it makes sense.

Sinbad_Deity

Never skipped the Erased opening, and it never spoiled nothing for me.

Sinbad_Deity

Technically he didn't lose 15 years of his live, he lived it before, it just in this future he was in a coma.

Rugo

I didn’t like how the anime ended at all when I first watched it years ago, but I read the manga out of a whim one day and the way they did it was so much better and added so much to the story even if it was the same result, the ending was so rushed in the anime, it’s been a while but iirc Kayo actually even came back to the school for the second half of the manga after leaving, and the way the killer was proven to be the him was so much cooler I think

yuzu hibiki

So when this was being aired weekly, I think alot of people got mad cause the MC didn't got together with kayo. I was slightly similar too back then. but after rewatching it actually made alot more sense for Airi instead of Kayo. I think it's just because watching weekly, the sense of time spend with Airi felt alot lesser and more insignificant compared to Kayo.

Rugo

55:20 whoever said “I’m beginning to think he’s the killer” got me good ngl 😭

Jessica

When i first watched it I really didnt like the ending just for how things went down i felt could have been executed better also the age gap between him satoru and ari. But upon rewatching now years later I like it. The age gap is still weird but Its still a satisfying conclusion overall

Thanny

02:03:00 What you're describing is peculiar to the UK. In Japan, as in the US, different crimes have different statutes of limitation. Murder also had one in Japan until 2010, when it was abolished (there's no limitation in the US for murder). In any case, the crime in question here wouldn't be murder, but attempted murder, when he sank the car in the water. The statute of limitations on that in Japan is 15 years, last I checked.

setaria-s

I loved this short but sweet journey. This was wonderful, I hadn’t seen this anime since my first time watching back in 2016 or so.

davguev

In 2010 their ages are 33 and 23. By then, the age gap is not that weird.

davguev

Was your funny feeling right?

Joni

Such an amazing anime. it's a shame that a lot of stuff had to be cut out to fit into a 12 episodes anime. also, i think they shouldn't have shown part of the killer's face in the future cuz it made it kinda obvious who the killer was. they should've made it like Detective Conan where the killer is all blacked out, only showing his eyes and mouth.

Petey Bickmore

The absolutely worst thing they did for this show was to show the killer in episode one. Erased is brilliant in so many other aspects and the ending itself is superb. But we knew the teacher was the killer all the way through. Even when we tried to find ways to deny it in our heads, we always knew. You said yourself, there was no one else it could have been for that reason. So the big reveal just fell super flat when this aired because everyone knew it who were watching it weekly. Erased is just a great example of a show that is let down by anime being given only 12 episodes. The whole stuff with saving Kayo was fantastic because it was given the time needed. Then everything is sped run and then we ‘re at the ending. Is still think this show is a great watch and would recommend it to a lot of people. But it could have been a masterpiece without the one massive flaw.

Kwil

Now that you finished the anime, I think it's a good time to mention that the Japanese title for this anime is different. It's called "The town without only me." I think changing it helped to preserve some of that mystery.

Raydough

Nah, I’m glad he enjoyed it

Cyber

where when do we get to vote on a new anime? :D

Platinum

Personally im kinda bugged nobody suggested watching the OP beforehand, but then ONLY suggested the changed one. The changed one only makes sense and is impactful when you've seen the normal one so many times, or once at the very least. Imo there was no point in watching the changed OP since he never watched the normal one. Just kind of a let down.

AdrixelCV

The next sunday, we're gonna have an anime tournament on twitch

Anarchy

Well i feel like he still did since he missed put on his true life in a sense.

Anarchy

Yeah they made sure to keep everything hidden pretty well until well. That one episode where he was revealed

Anarchy

Time for me to wait patiently until this mans watches Charlotte. Eventually the public opinion of this patreon can eventually make it there. Might be waiting for a while though

Sinbad_Deity

Can't wait too, need to rewatch that anyways

Hobiwater

Not an anime, but I would love to see Luke react to Regular Show someday, bet it would be a fun time. Any Regular Show fans here?

linked winters

Yeah, but people always make weird connections about satoru's age gap with kayo. But their age gap is 0 days, I mean they have the same bday. idk, it would've been way less weird to me

linked winters

i'm not necessarily upset that they didn't end up together. I'm more so upset that they teased a genuinely lovely romance through the whole anime for it to go nowhere. It would've been better had they cut all the romance out of the kayo scenes I feel like

KUR0KIJI

he has seen the normal one before, albeit a long time ago

Beldark

I would vote for that if it comes up.

Notos

Charlotte is now the only missing piece before perfection

David Stowe

Based on this reaction, I think Luke would really like the show Golden Time. Similar feel, but with a bit more light hearted romantic touch.

The GoDKing 27

21:57. Remember what u said about teacher mistaking the gender of that one student so it couldn’t be him 😅

The GoDKing 27

I just realized if he did find the killer then what was he gonna do 😑

yuzu hibiki

Wasn't the childhood romance just a way for them to stay safe with one another. now that i watched it in one go, kayo route was gone the moment she left the town to stay with her grandma. Also Airi was the one that helped him the most in his worst moments

v701

I loved experiencing this anime a second time with you! I truly appreciate every episode I got to relive thanks to your reaction. Thank you for this lovely journey ^^ I hope one day, we can watch the 45 minute "long" movie Hotarubi no mori e together :)

Anarchy

Its gunna be time for me and like 2 other people to vote for Charlotte. We probably aint gunna win but we will eventually😭

Anarchy

Probably try to gather evidence and bait him out. It just uhh. Didnt exactly go as planned

Anarchy

If anything id say like gravity falls and adventure time stuff first. Regular show is a literal fever dream i swear

Anarchy

It cant be him. He knows that kid was a boy he said. The denial is insane😭

Tysado

Have you watched odd taxi? That’s a good one to watch after enjoying this one!

SibirPrizrak

its telling you to watch One Pieceso DO IT

Rugo

he's watched angel beats already, so it'll be cool for him to watch charlotte to see the similarities between the shows since its by the same person, asked for it on patreon votes after he watched it and it seemed many people agreed

Whata Save

Shigatsu wa kimi no uso as well

Anarchy

See people agree but always forget to attend the vote. So this sunday you better be one of the people asking for charlotte.

Rugo

Haha this reply sounds threatening, but fs, I was actually the first one to mention it on the megavote after angel beats

IvI

I do like how the two would be murder victims end up together, but I dislike how it isn't built up at all, though to be fair, I'm not sure how they even would have built it up, and part of it does work as the audience is caught as off guard as he is by all the stuff he missed.

Cyber

Which one is Charlotte? What's the theme about (spoiler free?)

Oni

anohana next?

Kyle Garrett

What a great series. Was a lot of fun watching this and trying to guess what was going on. As far as the killer goes, the teacher felt so obvious I thought it was a red herring. I guess in hindsight I should have realised that a 12 episode series doesn't have the luxury of making such an obvious red herring, and I should take the clues at face value, but watching it I wasn't thinking about it on that kind of meta level. I was sus of the blonde kid, since he was so observant, stalked the MC, took us to the murder bus, was always probing for information, in my mind he was portrayed as an ally but could have easily been the killer. Turns out her really was just a bro and stayed loyal the entire time. Also I couldn't help but laugh when chat talked about Hinazuki not waiting for him. Like yeah they were cute together as kids, but that would be SO WEIRD if she had waited. If he was a normal kid he'd have the mind of an 11 year old, so if she had waited, I'd have considered a pedo for still being attracted to an 11 year old, regardless of how his body aged. I was kind of worried Airi was a reincarnation of Hinazuki or related to her somehow, and worried he'd have a weird relationship with her, since there's like a 12 year age gap there, which is kind of big, and I think originally she was a minor? I think at the very end there we're past the start of the series so she's probably at least 18, but I still really hope that ending was just meant to show she is okay, and not set them up to get together because I still think that'd be weird. As far as the final confrontation goes it was pretty good (though I don't know how he knew the killer was going to take him to the roof and on that specific day). The message about believing in others and having the courage to just take the first step to get things going is all great stuff to share with people and a nice ending. Oh, and I'm super relieved that he 'only' lost 11 years of his life. After ep 1 I was convinced he'd just die or be a cripple or something severe for changing fate as much as he did, and I'm thankful they went for a much more positive ending.

Saracuse

That's kinda why I assumed it couldn't be him, even if it was very obvious in every other way. Not sure if I missed an explanation for that?

Talias_Light

let's make him watch Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace next!

Abelielle

Can I suggest a short anime to replace this one ? If you like D&D content and fantasy, I’m suggesting the Faraway Paladin. It’s only two seasons but it’s so good, the characters and the lore are so well developped.

Tom Boggess

If there's one complaint I have about this anime, it's that kayo and satoru didn't end up together. I know Airi was introduced as the love interest. I'm not mad about it but kayo waiting years to be with the person who saved her would have been a more satisfying ending in my opinion.

Anarchy

She was specifically told by his mother not to wait so I really don't think she waited long at all.

AuroraRaiju

He didn't save her to be his GF or for any romantic reasons, he saved her to give her a life of her own and a future (Her childs name literally means Future). His reward was her being alive and happy with her child, and in my opinion that's so much better than some weird girl who is obssesed with a week long romance she had when she was 10.

Loki

He targets anyone who has the "spider strings" above their heads. The police suspected Yuuki because he was often seen around children, and they found footage in his room that led them to believe he had pedophilic tendencies. Two of the victims were girls, and the third was a boy who looked very feminine. The police assumed the killer mistook the boy for a girl, thinking the motive was related to the victims' gender. In the end, for Yashiro, this confusion never existed, it was just the police making assumptions based on the limited evidence they had and the suspects available to them.

patros36

Week long romance? He saved her life and helped her get away from her abusive mother. If you wont wait a few years for someone like that then who. It would be more staisfying in my opinion, as without it he has nothing, lost 15 years of his life and even the resolution with the teacher was pretty goofy.

patros36

Luke always sees spoilers in openings, but thats just because he watches them at the end, with all the context fresh in his mind. Ofc you see symbolism when the thing it symbolizes just happened. Without it 95% of OPs have no spoilers

Harus Streit

In comment to this whole thread, remember what the trigger was for the revival. It wasn't Kayo, it was his mom. Kayo had the biggest impact since she was the first victim, which kicked off everything. A case that went cold (as to who the real killer was), then the years later when it was being solved, Satoru's mother was killed. So Satoru's quest is to prevent the string of murders so his mother won't end up on a case that'll get her killed. Would I have liked Satoru and Kayo to be together, yeah, we all would have, but I think in a way it's more poetic for two of the victims to end up being together.
