I've only watched up to this point, so what I'm saying is not spoilers, but more what I understood. There was no pregnancy and no daughters, that whole story is fictional, what he wanted to know was how one of the envoys could escape their watch to do something sneaky. The answer being the mirror which also explains why they went to all the trouble of bringing all these big mirrors as presents. So in conclusion : two envoys look similar and are placed under surveillance > one of them uses the mirror to sneak out and does something shady > they suspect them but don't know how they could have done it > so they ask Detective Maomao to solve the case.

FYI: The average height of Japanese Men in 2023 is 170cm or 5'7', Women is 159 or 5"3' .Since this is in 2023, the average height is lower in ancient times. In 1945 for men was 5"5' and 5"1 for women. Earlier hieghts were lower, I assume the height were about the same in China. So 175 cm in a woman was extremely tall.. At 175 cm or 5"8, So she would be at least 3 inches taller than the average man and 7 inches taller than the average woman. Yep, very tall.

So you can't just tell your heart to stop, it functions on a completely different nervous system. There's the somatic nervous system which is the one we control and then there's the autonomic nervous system. Breathing is one of the hybrids of the two nervous systems but you notice if you hold your breath until you pass out you start breathing again. Our brains are wired so well that it decided there were things we could not be trusted to do on our own. It would be like trying to control your body to not get a fever when you're really sick. It's just not something we can do.

18:31 You might have forget because it has been so long since you watched first season, but in a certain episode at the end of season 1, there was a scene where they revealed that him and Gaoshun are still having "everything". They are just lying to everyone, also they both take a medicine that makes them less masculine to hide their masculinity better, but if Jinshi stopped it, which I don't remember if he did, he could still have kids as far as I know. But Jinshi only has eyes for Maomao and Maomao is oblivious to his interest in her because of her own obliviousness to others' emotions, plus she thinks them being from different class of society would be too much problems (which isn't wrong especially if we consider that he is tied to royalty tho she doesn't know that), plus Maomao don't think she still has the ability to love someone (ep 18 is where I get it around 9 min 50 sec). Anyway I was disgressing, but in conclusion, Jinshi is packing, at least he is having the full kit. But Maomao doesn't know that, so she thinks like everyone else that Jinshi is a real eunuch.

It seems to me that luke has overlooked some valuable details/ hints from season 1. Not a big deal, but it really is going to be fun watching his reaction to a certain few episodes in the future pertaining to a frog. lol

The issue is that season 2 was very weak, and season 3 was kinda "all over the place", kind lost in not knowing were it wanted to go anymore. I just hope the recover the "momentum" for season 4

As addendum to this that the anime kind of skipped (and this has been mentioned a few times at other points as well), that the reason they specifically requested someone above a certain height range, is because as has been mentioned, the envoys from 50 years ago were from the West, and because of Asian height standards & facial looks, they didn't want to feel like a bunch of pedos diddling kids, which a manlet stature + kid-like facial features (especially worse on a female, as can be seen from some of the examples of some of the AV actresses who are in their late 20s to 30s but look like they are 12, among other such examples of non-AV relation) would make them feel like. Incidentally this does tend to make the western envoys (in-universe at least as mentioned off-handedly) behave arrogantly because they feel like they are talking to a bunch of kids when even the males look like young adults at most

the average height of a woman even now is between 5 feet 2 inches and 5ft 4 inches depending on where you live. so a 5 foot 8 inch woman is well above average height espeically for ancient china. In the past around when this would have taken place people were one to two inches shorter than they are now.

Iirc mirrors are made from glass and a thin layer of silver or metal behind it. In the past that thin layer was sometimes mercury. 😬 Not sure how dangerous it was in mirrors provided they weren't broken. No idea what metal they used in these ones. It doesn't get mentioned in the season.
