To answer your question I have a salt lamp & I’ve had it for a pretty long time & I’ve never had issues with it. Could be size dependent maybe? Or the heat from the light used maybe? Idk But yes they are nice, pretty soft light, mines like a deep reddish orange light & it’s pretty great. It’s From a place called “natural gems” it’s a “Himalayan salt lamp”

Time for some Curry facs! First off, curry is a spice blend. Curry is when you combine 10-20 spices out of 73 specific ingrediens (i learned from culinary school 15years ago, so some details can have change singe then) So back to the show, the topic was curry, and i think what they meant was: Create a dish in your style, but the curry spices needs to be the hero! A white curry was a cool idea, so out of the 73 ingrediens to make curry, he picked the most colorless once. Mustardpowder and tumeric is what makes curry yellow. Curry Calzone was such a brilliant idea, feeding the judges idea with currybread, but created a tomato based curry with italian technic was so cool. I could keep going but i hope i got my point across, that all of these dishes highlighted curry in their own style which were very cool! Btw i have personally tried making all of these dishes (except witchgirl , sciencegirl and Natogirl) and for me the Lobster/Cognac dish was out of this world!

Bad translations on these subs. Why was site switched? (EDIT: This was my reaction to the first episode of the batch)

Explorian

It was suggested as a sampling comparison of a scene in an older episode showed a more accurate contextual translation and also the text contrast is better on YT. But after checking out the episode and experiencing it in full, we found the overall experience to be disappointing. It was changed back to hidive in the subsequent episodes.

Yuki’s curry looks more like a Japanese style curry which is a katsu (breaded meats topping a curry sauce on a bed of rice) Katsu curry is really nice

Luke really lost me on the sandwich talk. What do you mean that you don't name the sandwich by the ingredients that are used. Literally any sandwich is named by the fillings used in it. I have also eaten many sandwiches with chicken curry filling and I would at least call that a curry dish. Sure it's not what I would be expecting if I was invited to eat curry, but it's still curry.

Michael

Soma when the theme is literally anything else in the world: Eggs?

Liopold0531

My favorite curry dish is Japanese curry with chicken katsu on the rice, and they'll give you the separate curry sauce for you to pour with, it's very good! All those curry dishes are pretty legit! (I don't know about the witchcraft one and the molecular gastronomy one lol)

I still don’t understand why Luke hates Erina so much. In my opinion, the story would be a lot worse without her, since she’s one of the only characters who’s truly against Soma and actually gives him challenges that help him improve. Another thing is that Erina generally isn’t mean to people who have earned her respect. Also, the real reason Erina dislikes Soma is because he’s cocky as hell and sometimes can come off like a bit of a jerk to others. But at the same time, Soma genuinely takes on these challenges because he wants to prove to Erina that he really is that good — not just to show off, but to earn her acknowledgment. It gives a good balance to the story, since their dynamic pushes both of them to grow. I also don’t hold a grudge against Erina for lying about Soma’s food at the start. He was always going to get into the school anyway, so that twist was really there to establish their tension and set up their relationship. Without it, we might’ve thought Soma would just breeze through everything, and it would’ve been way less interesting.

The witch's fishy laksa is totally a thing, quiet famous particularly around northern Malaysia (Penang), and yes it does smell (not as extreme) and we love it. :D

Luke. Take it from an Indian guy who's mum is also a chef. A curry is the ingredients and the style, it isn't in the presentation or arrangement. I've learnt to make curry a dozen different ways including, dry, gelatinous and as a, stuffing. I bloody love a good curry, but it can be as simple or as complicated as I am lazy that day 🤣😂🤣

jdoggivjc

The fact that the judges nearly broke out into a fistfight over which dish was better between Soma's and Akira's... XD

I don't really like Erina either, though I can appreciate she'll likely develop into a more relatable character later on. Honestly, I don't think you can excuse Erina lying at the beginning by saying that Soma would get into Totsuki anyway. It was still a crappy and dishonest thing to do. If her grandfather hadn't been lurking around behind the scenes Soma would be out before he was ever given a real chance. And she's continued to act stuck up and snooty to him despite him proving numerous times to be a decent cook. Far too stubborn. But I agree she plays an important role in the story, even if there are plenty of other motivators for Soma.

01:07:20 You don't know what curry is. It's not a particular dish that you're accustomed to calling "a curry". It's a mixture of spices. That's what curry is, and the dish made with curry can look like anything at all.

Thanny

01:10:54 Yes, you're proving you don't know what curry is. It's not the dish that people in the UK have shortened to "a curry". There is no actual dish called "a curry". There are many, many different dishes made with curry. You can have curry fried chicken if you want, or curry meatloaf if you're adventurous enough. All dishes which use a complex mixture of spices from within the group considered curry spices are curry dishes.

ugh i started snacking while watching because i was hungry😭

regarding the ketchup thing because Luke missed the people actually explaining it. Spaghetti napolitan is a pasta dish of japanese origin that uses ketchup for the sauce rather than the traditional tomato sauce from italy and Takumi's choice of bacon, mushrooms and peppers made the dish reminiscent of spaghetti napolitan. Hence why the judge brought up ketchup. Not a mis translation or insult to italians

Declan G

Others have already addressed the main point, so I’ll just add in something: they weren’t told “Make a curry” under whatever definition “a curry” would be, they were given the *theme* “Curry Cuisine.” The theme of what they have to cook is “Curry;” it was not the rule that they must cook a curry, but that the dish must be based around the idea of curry.

Declan G

You have a serious misunderstanding about Erina. She was not intentionally lying to get Soma rejected from the school—she was not being malicious. With her God Tongue, she’s used to evaluating food based on the experience it makes her imagine. Whenever she eats his food, she ends up picturing his face involved in some way, like with the Cherub’s tickling her. This imagination is coming to her from the positive feelings she has for the delicious food because deep down she has a crush on Soma, but because she’s tsundere she doesn’t accept she likes him and takes seeing his face to mean the food was disgusting and expresses such. Even if it was literally delicious, she cannot tell that it was and instead thinks the opposite; she’s not saying it’s disgusting to lie, just to say how she really feels.

As a first time viewer, the potential romance here reminds me of Re:Zero. You have a clearly best girl of S1 that deserves to be the end love of the MC, but then you have a girl clearly set up to fill that role, but who sucks in S1 and isn't worthy. I see Erina winning out in the end, she has MC energy, links to his dad, and the better cooking skill, but I really really want it to be Megumi. Seems very telegraphed so far, but maybe the author will throw a curve ball and the best girl will win in the end? ... obviously don't tell me if Soma ends up with them (or anyone for that matter). I just saw the ending of this stream and had to express my frustration about how I just know this is all going to go. >_<;

Jay P

To use the sandwich analogy: If there was a competition whose theme was "sandwiches" You would not expect every copetitor to just make two toasts and some salad, cheese and shit. There would be all kinds of inventions with toast or usual sandwich ingredients. The theme was "curry" they were not told to "make A curry" curry is just a spice too, not only the meal.

Hououin Kyouma

But the judges are Japanese, and they are calling it ketchup.

Edward Lee

So Curry is the stew or sauce made with spices. What your thinking of is Curry Rice. Don't worry anyone who never studied cooking make that mistake. Curry is the sauce or soup so as long as they have that they have curry. For example with bread it stays bread but depending what you put inside it like Cream bread, Jelly bread and most famously Curry bread. Its the same concept

Iron_claw

These subtitles are so much easier to read but my God they suck when it comes to correct translation they get so much of the subtitles wrong

This anime at my top 3 all time - so good And rly glad you like it as well as do I 😎

This was a very fun sequence, and it was nice to see so many of the cast cooking. One problem I sometimes have with food wars is when the stakes are existential for Souma ("win or you are kicked out"). This tends to reduce tension - we know he's not getting kicked out, and he's going to either win or tie. So I really like it when the other characters are battling each other for other personal stakes, as that makes the contest less predictable (like when Nao the Witch is battling Hisako).
