Mi Hasu

Ah sir, the reason why Zhou adapts quickly to being Klein is because transmigration novels are very popular, but not so much for donghua/anime yet. He also partially has Klein’s memories and his familiarity with the world as a history graduate in Tingen. I enjoyed your reaction! Thank you for checking the work out.

Senoth

Luke, patreon answered? So does this mean you gonna stay on patreon or there will be no more content here?

Artay

I will only say this. Because this is chinese donghua, you need to throw away your expectations on what will happen as it may turn out very differently from what you expect :D

Deatheye

There are parts of the show crunchyroll decided to remove. For each episode there are two parts removed. Unknown to the public as to why they did it. "Old Neil's mysticism class" and "chibi". You can find them on YT. There are also Episodes with after credits. Watch out for them.

Kyle Garrett

Luke just for some context, Transmigration could be considered another term for Isekai. Isekai in Japan focuses more on being reborn in another world or physically transported into another world, but having your mind take possession of a person or object in another world is also really really common in the Transmigration genre. So him knowing what Transmigration is basically is equivalent to you waking up in another world and deciding you've been Isekai'd.

mjaomjao2

The first couple episodes were a bit rushed but supposedly it's going to slow down a lot for the rest of the episodes. Hopefully there's enough people for you to continue the reactions. This is my favorite novel of all time.

Kyle Garrett

As far as him adapting super quickly goes, that's partially the quick pacing of the first two episodes, partially him bluffing, and partially just the nature of the genre. Like you think about any Isekai and they always adapt super fast because no one really wants to watch multiple episodes of the MC acting like Zenitsu and refusing to accept their new reality.

Kyle Garrett

Also Ep 1 & 2 released at the same time, so watching only Ep 1 kind of puts you at a disadvantage to other people with understanding what's going on.

Sikk Karuzo

Finally on patreon aswell, it was so hard not to watch it on YouTube :D I am not a reader, so i only watched the 3 Episodes. This Show is kinda confusing but it gets better with every Episode. I have the feeling this show can become something really great.

Jorginho

talking about horror the summer hikaru died released recently and first episode was really good its really atmospheric and with uneasy vibes

Anima

The tone the Vibe the Animation ITS Just perfekt Love IT so far

TheErisianMonk

Not sure why ya thought that “transmigration” could have been a known thing in that world. The MC was a Chinese dude from Earth and he happened to enjoy fiction writing. He also said he has Klein’s partial memories, so he is just a clever boy making use of the past and present knowledge available. The inventions and culture just seemed to be heavily influenced by games and methods know back on Earth, so he thinks the Emperor, who is credited with much of that influence, very well might have been from Earth, even China. I’ve loved this so far. A clever MC who is willing to fight for what HE wants? Nicesu! It’s taking a great deal of effort to not read this, but an animation adaptation is a wonderful way to get introduced to a new story.

TheErisianMonk

18:38 I’m very curious why The Fool would be numbered as “1” in that world instead of “0.” I started reading the Tarot at 16, so seeing a “1” on the card irks tf outta me. Lolz

TheErisianMonk

Yo, Luke. AniNews posted a fantastic video called “Lord of Mysteries Episode 1 Cut Content | What Did The Anime Change & All Your Questions Answered.” It helped me understand the nitty-gritty of the Beyonder talk and potions stuff. I hate being spoiled and that video just made me feel prepared for moving forward, so I do recommend watching it. I’ve heard that this series will be HEAVY on the brain-use, so a little advantage couldn’t hurt.

AchmodinIVSWE

Crunchyroll usually doesn't host the Chibi content for anime or shows. They may host OVAs but it's unusual for them to host ONAs. So it's not a surprise really.

Arthurio

I watched the first two episodes on Crunchyroll when they came out. While it is true that the new translation is a lot better. The version that is spread on "the wild seas" is still better than this. Specifically, the inner monologue talking about transmigration makes it more clear that the knowledge he has is based on isekai/transmigration stories from his life in the other world, while knowledge of this world is pulled from memories of the original Klein. Like the fog is the stereotypical cheat MC gets in the new worlds, etc. And he has memories of Klein, just not the recent ones. I had the exact same thoughts you mentioned, while watching the original ChatGPT translation I found on pirated sites makes these things fairly clear. It is still surprising how the character acts, but much more believable and reasonable, especially considering he is supposed to be a kinda genius. Not sure if that translation is available on any legal site you could use.

Chaddaï Fouché

That's actually a 0 in Loenese… You can see the whole set in Old Neil class (available on YouTube).

Curro Senise

Luke you need to react to Gachiakuta, might be the shonen of the year.

GutterSnipe1

The author's name you were looking for was H.P. Lovecraft. Many similarities to this anime. In number 3, a lot is explained. Please continue.

Alpora

Luke, as a long term sub to you at this point, please continue this!

Noggen

I assume the era you were looking for was Victorian era

Raydough

the subs are so much better than before, rare crunchyroll W ig

Leonardo Pires

Imagine that Clen, like Subaro, is familiar with transmigration/isekai stories, so he plays the role quite naturally. Bonus content: Chib's episodes have funny interludes that may or may not be informative, which further immerses him in the story. Neil's lessons are basic explanations about the world, such as its geographic location, explanations of paths, etc. I hope for more reactions. This is the kind of work that makes me an aficionado, so I would really appreciate your reactions. :)

Kotoro L

I really hope you continue this series. Definitely one of my favourite pieces of fiction. Also, the pacing is so damn fast. Sure, was all of the information provided in this episode? Mostly. Are most first time viewers going to pick up on it? No shot. I am very curious how the series conveys all of the information necessary to new viewers.

Tensai

did you mean it gives lovecraft vibes?

Rem is best waifu

This is my favorite new show this season. I am glad it was released with both episode 1 and 2 at the same time bc I understood it better the more episodes I watch.

Dylan Feenstra

would have been a W if they had been like that when it released

Barbachimaru

This was absolutly breathtaking for me. Usually i don't fall for the animation and i can be bothered by non japanese dub, but i really enjoyed this.

Skebaba

Also Zhou Mingrui himself is a highly analytical & calm/rational personality wise, which helps him quickly get on his feet in this situation when combined w/ everything else

NoahNotes

Just want to let you know the animators came out and said episode 1 and 2 were the worst ones and they look this GOOD imagine how good the rest of the season is gonna be

Frentzy

yes it did, nothing changes

david

That's what I think he meant by eldritch too. HP Lovecraft.

Dovydas Pilka

as a person who read the novel this is peak but idk if the pacing will not be too fast

Sprucefer

You should definitely watch the corresponding short episodes of "Lord of Mysteries Mysticism Class". They give more information about stuff that is shown in each episode, but they're not on crunchyroll so you'll have to find them on another site.

IronDestiny

They got a new translator who’s apparently somewhat active in the community itself.

Alpora

can you dm which high seas version you mean? I've been watching SubsPlease but I think they just rip from CR

TheOnlyChou

The reason he seems so knowledgeable is probably because he's read multiple stories with transmigration in them. Also trust me, they didn't include it, but he was panicking a lot in his head. That aside, you'll find that Klein is pretty good at adapting to situations throughout the story

Deuces 84

Absolutely hooked on this. Refreshingly unique with gorgeous animation.

Lyndai

Here are some notes to help you understand some of the context, without spoilers. 1. A lot of the imagery and concepts are deeply having to do with mythology and Chinese sayings. Examples of some simple ones. - the image of him buying bread in town was accompanied by a rat hunted by a cat. while at the same time he was 'hunted' by people through the town as well [“It doesn’t matter whether it is a black or a white cat. As long as it can catch the rat, it is a good cat.”] - when the fish jumped out of the river when the police arrived ["Fish out of water" is an idiom that describes someone who is in an unfamiliar and uncomfortable situation. ] 2. Transmigration is a hugely popular concept in China. Movies, comics, animations, ect. So, it's a reasonable jump to make for someone like him. it is similar to reincarnation. Reincarnation: When people die, they are reborn in a new body as a baby, generally without memories. Transmigration: After the a character dies, for one reason or another, their soul entered someone else's body (usually when its already a teenager or adult) and took it over. 3. It is very vaguely mentioned in the intro of his character, but on earth he was really into supernatural stuff, so he uses that as his base of understandings. 4. The intro was saying there are 22 types of beyonder 'ability' strands. Each strand starting out at sequence 9 and going down the branch like a 'skill tree', the lower the number down the tree the more powerful it is. the rest I'll leave you to find out.

Lyndai

Also, the ending is also the opening, and it is gorgeous. I love the song 'Dark Dream' it uses.

test

I only watched the first episode but i guess he just runs with it because its common trope like imagen you watched 30+ isekai anime (like myself) and suddenly you are sucked in one. Then most of the thinks that happen your mind would just go too "oh this is just an isekai im inside off" ofcourse the lack of him being suprised i find confusingt too but him running with it i can understand.

Liopold0531

Trust me, the poll is not rigged (at least I am the individual who voted because I want to see the reaction)!!

Ty L

How about doing a poll on patreon to see how results compare, might be interesting

Christo Badenhorst

You did great, the show starts of exhausting. but dont take everyone too serious - I have seen some people get mad at people not getting stuff. but here around episode 3. majority of the world will start to stick on how it works. I hope you continue the show. its amazing

Daniel Golas

bro in that dimension he went full Ainz there XD

Mister

'Propose' by 9Lana You will not regret it.

Justin Anderson

the work and author you were thinking of is lovecraftian luke, also this is an isekai and he has the memories of klein, i assume hes read webtoons and stuff back on earth and knows what isekai is and transmigrator means someone resurrected in another world basically. not sure if you'll read this or if someone else has told you but i hope this helps.

patros36

Its a bit sad you didn't give To be hero X a similar opportunity and just shut it down because of its release time, but making an exception for lotm just because of reddit votes. Otherwise its a good series so far, im expecting it to be a slow burner

Embyrblossom

Really hoping it's continued but I only watch on Patreon! No Ads! xD I recently binged the first 4 available and I am HOOKED. As soon as I had no more to watch, my next thought was "IS LUKE WATCHING IT?!" Glad to go through the first episode again with you; I was able to catch more that I didn't 100% pick up on during the first watch and I very much enjoy your commentary! Fun watching you try to piece it together LOL

Arthurio

It might be too late, but I had a good experience with zoro tv,

Barack O. Llama

on a second watch i got pretty much most of it and its somehow even better. this is so peak

Anna

I really hope Luke will keep watching this on Patreon / Youtube

Onusai

Can we get an update on whether you plan to continue this show? Also now that the dubs are starting to roll out, they are definitely the way to experience this anime going forward. Quite a bit easier to follow whats going on and the VA's are great

NK

Dubs are almost never the right way to watch anything since you lose the performances that the original director wanted and are then interpretations of others. So it’s a modification of the original no mater what language it was in.

NK

Honestly this beginning feels a bit jumbled and not great writing. Almost as though the writer had too many ideas and tried to cram them all together right at the start and they didn’t quite flow coherently. Though maybe something was lost in the transition to making this into a show? This could get better as the story continues and gets more coherent, but the story so far didn’t get off to a great start for me. Maybe the web novel is better at presenting this (never read it) but this episode was not a great start and I felt only a very weak connection to the main character to pull me in. The world seems interesting but that’s not enough and I have to care about characters to be drawn in from the start and this was too chaotic a start to allow that for me . Hopefully it gets better as the episodes go on since the world does seem cool. The art style was also very beautiful however the photorealistic CG was a bit distracting at times (if very pretty). It did feel more like a high quality video game cutscene than an anime (which it guess technically it’s not). Still beautiful animation overall.

gggoos

The first 2 episode pacing is very rushed and skips a lot of content to try and hook people in with the first 3 episodes. Just to give you context how much stuff the anime skips in the first 2 episodes. So the 3rd episode ends on around chapter 75-80 in the webnovel. This has been adapted as a physical book which is around 600 pages long. So they have crammed in roughly 500 pages worth of "text" into the first 2 episodes which is why the pacing is so quick and seems "crammed". I'm up to date at around episode 6 which is probably the best episode the series has done so far but one thing is quite clear after the 3rd episode, the pacing issue seems to have been solved and is giving out a lot more time to digest stuff and make up your own theories.

NK

Yeah that makes sense. I think I was feeling that sense of it being rushed. Like I said too many ideas crammed into too little time. Would have been nice if they had paced it out better to allow the watcher to get into it. For me at least their plan to skip stuff to “hook people in” backfired and made me skeptical of the show.

gggoos

The show becomes a lot more truthful to it's pacing afterwards. It's a bit different in a storytelling wise compared to the webnovel but I'd still call it a very good adaptation regardless. They do mention a lot of the important stuff in the first couple episodes and the thing is that it really doesn't give you any time to think or digest the information, which is the flaw due to it's pacing. Klein's inner monologue is really the bare bones but it has gotten better so far. I'd recommend checking out until the latest episode honestly. The great part about the show is that it gives you breadcrumbs here and there which and really isn't looking to give instant gratification. And the reason why they had to skip stuff is that they had a requirement of having a certain fight happen by episode 3 which is why so much stuff is crammed. A lot of information is also shown in between the ad break and on old neils mysticism classes, which are extra content that I'd recommend checking out if you are interested in how things work and the lore/ worldbuilding stuff. It really helps you understand the show a lot more. Unfortunately they weren't able to show those on the show itself.

WarTalon

It's not that bad. It really just depends on the quality. There is always going to be loss of information when interacting with any media from a different language/culture, even with subtitles.

Jessica

Yeah but they are also better in their own right in terms of translating humor, phrases, and explaining things to an english speaking audience. Not to mention its hard to appreciate or even look at the visuals when your busy reading the bottom of the screen the entire time. To each their own but for this show, the dub has been able to break things down better than the sub did

Stefan Jipa

First 3 ep are very rushed from what I understood, so they can show you something in a relative short amount of time Some animations looked like Disney (shit) movie level! Insane! Btw, they already have dub version, I like it more:) But it a little behind vs Chinese

Ezra Shtilfus

Funny, how even when they cut plenty of content, they sprinkle seeds, and hints to mysteries that you will discover only near end of the whole series. And its such a small and fast details, so even I, after reading books twice, watching plenty of reactions (at least 15, sometimes same reactor again), noticed only now. Nice.

davguev

Well, about that...

gabriel coleman

Is it just me, or did you add chinese subs on your screen?

DGmG

as someone who read the novel, this would be very confusing. the donghua seems to be missing a LOT of inner thoughts of the characters, which is quite a large part of everything. the animation etc is amazing but the storytelling so far is meh, especially since it also feels quite rushed.
