You will know when you are watching season 4 because you won't be able to recognize any of the characters by sight anymore. lol Watching season 4 is a test of will and mental endurance with no obvious rewards. You will look back fondly on season 2 once you experience that first episode. I would suggest just binging the whole forth season and just getting it done. Four hours of your life you will never get back, but better then the slow weekly tourture imho. You'll understand soon enough.

The Issei hate increases by each ep I swear. Yes, he is like a hungry person in a buffet complaining he's angry. The thing is that he doesn't see the food for reasons still unknown, so you don't see the full picture yet. As for the contracts, they are still doing that but they don't show it anymore since it's a daily routine. And people don't see what happens at the school due to the barrier they set, the same happened during the battle with Kokabiel. And a lot of people will tell you season 4 is shit. As a LN reader, I say that the truly shitty one is season 3. They messed up the story real bad and even they made a non canon arc that would have affected badly the following arcs if things would had stayed the same. Season 4 has a diferent art style but the animation is better and the story is way more loyal than season 3, these are facts. If you like the new art style or the old one it's up to you.

I think your still under the impression that all devils, angels and fallen angels hate each other and are constantly fighting. All devils, Azazel of the fallen angels and michael want to form a truce between the 3 major powers. There are small fights between factions but no great war like before

And to add on to that, to me, Michael giving Issei the holy sword as a sign of good faith makes perfect sense. Like he has the power of one of the two dragons that forced all 3 factions to ally to stop their rampage. On top of that, its been told already that all three factions were far stronger back when the the two dragons were sealed. You dont want to be on his bad side even if he is the weakest host in history.

why are you making it sound like season 4 is bad?? It's the only season that perfectly follows the light novel. I wish every season did. Even season 4's art was changed to look more like the light novel illustrations so it's way more accurate detail wise

i mean tbf Luke doesn't know the reason behind it yet. The anime doesnt clarify it immediately they way the light novel does. It does get explained eventually in the anime tho why he never pursues it

I also read the LN and I enjoyed Season 3 tbh. I will never get people telling others how they should enjoy or hate something before they even get to experience it for themselves. Let Luke watch it and draw his own conclusions. He hasn't and probably wont read the LN so if it's different or not, he won't care. He'll just judge the anime by its own standards. Same with Season 4, maybe he will like the new style better than the original? Time will tell, it's no good to jump to conclusions

I agree as a novel reader i hate what they did with the end of season 3 and making a filler arc as the end of it. The author hated that they did that too. I'm glad season 4 has an episode 0 that shows what was actually supposed to happen when season 3 branched off. I'll never understand the hate season 4 gets. It's the only season that follows the novel perfectly. The art style changing was also done by the new studio to make the art look more like the light novel illustrations and to correct the detail mistakes that the first studio made.

Freezing in hell is not so weird as you may think. In the Dante's Inferno version of hell, separated by circles/rings/stratum, each part of hell had a different aesthetic and punishment for the corresponding sin. The few last circles, reserved for traitors, were freezing cold, so it makes sense that Kokabiel, having betrayed his faction/leader, were sent there to freeze for all eternity

I never said how he should enjoy the show. I said in the last sentence that it's up to him to enjoy the last season. I just told him the context of both seasons since everyone telling him about season 4 probably didn't read the LN and, as one who does, gave him my own opinion as everyone is doing. By the way, if you liked the 3rd season good for you, but they changed a lot of the story, they skipped an entire volume, a battle against a god, mixed volumes and at the end they pulled a non canon arc that resolved in a half-assed manner Issei's issues when in the upcoming volumes where still present. These are established facts but if you liked it nonetheless you do you. For all of this the author got pissed and looked for another studio that respected his story more.

You say freezing in hell sounds ironic however in Dante's Inferno the lowest level of hell is the frozen circle. Many different religions have different interpretations of an afterlife and a "hell" which only the Christian, Islamic and Judaism having more of a burning place. Others are more cold and voids used to reset karma.

It's Gunslinger Girl all over again with the art style and animation. Regardless of how closely it follows the LN. It's a painfully jarring experience. As for the story, I guess that's just up to personal tastes. One of the main drivers of any ecchi anime are the visuals. The intensely obvious reduction in all aspects of the animation quality is an obvious issue imho.

Season 4 a done by a different studio because the author of the LN hated what the previous studio did with story in season 3. And even though I noticed the difference in animation style and look when I first watched it, I wouldn’t say it was jarring. It was just different and I quickly got used to it. Later when I started reading the LNs I realized that season 4 more closely matched the style of the art in the LNs. So you could call it a correction of sorts. And certainly the animation quality in S4 was way better too.

Since I've stated my opinion already, no need to for me to state it again. I understand everybody has different tastes. I also understand the reasons why the visual changes where made. It's been awhile since I've watch DxD, so I'll find out if my memory serves me correctly when season 4 starts. I appreciate that the author was involved with season 4's production. But pleasing the author is not the same as pleasing the audience. Should they ever attempt to continue the story it will be interesting to see what art style and studio would be selected.

He is dense, but in Isse's defense, when he was initially introduced to everybody else in the club back in the first book, he was calling her Rias. He asked if he could keep calling her that, but she told him that it would be better if he referred to her as "President" or "Master". They left that part out of the anime.

I feel like i get it. Everyone is just drawn to Issei, because of him being pure and honest in his desires. Even if he is really horny. There is no malice or ulterior motive, no desire for power just for the sake of having power. And he proved over and over again, that he will do anything for the people and things he cares about. And those who know are vouching for him. I feel like that's the reason why so many people trust Issei and are willing to bet on him. He has the enigmatic charisma of a potential leader people are willing to follow during bad times.

To be fair. As someone who also always struggles to find the right words in a direct conversation, i can absolutely relate to Issei screwing up his entire speech to Akeno up. In my case though, it's probably because of my ADHD and mental health issues. For Issei, it's probably his lack of experience with woman and people actually being nice to him (aside from his 2 buddies). So he is unsure about the balance between being honest and showing restrain, without offending someone or looking weird to other people.

I think they mentioned a few episodes ago, that they chose the School as a meeting spot, since it's mostly a neutral area most participants have ties to, the easiest to protect because of the already existing barriers and the fighting place against Kokabiel. Plus, the devils are in charge of organizing the summit. They are used to using the School as a stronghold.

Plus Rias's dad is on the parent board, and gives a lot of money to them, so of course the school will allow him to use a room for a meeting if he asked. (I'm rewatching this and only now saw this comment)
