DRACO

MAKI UPSCALED. MY TRULY GOAT.

DRACO

19:00 YESSSSS!!! ITS HEAVILY KILL BILL VIBE AND REFERENCED!

Yariko27

This episode was absolutely mind boggling absolute cinema 🔥🔥🔥

DRACO

So basically after Mai died, Maki gained zero cursed energy, because Mai took all the shared cursed energy with her, removing the hindrance to Maki's Heavenly Restriction and elevating her physical abilities to the level of Toji Fushiguro. This allowed Maki to fully utilize her superhuman physical power, making her incredibly strong, but without the ability to perceive curses or use cursed techniques herself. Basically Maki has unlocked the Toji Build by Mai's death. (correct me if i'm wrong)

DRACO

Shared Energy: Twins in the Zenin clan, like Maki and Mai, share a single pool of cursed energy, meaning neither has their full potential. Mai's Sacrifice: Mai used her Cursed Technique to create a powerful cursed sword for Maki, pouring all their combined cursed energy into it before dying. Heavenly Restriction Activation: With Mai gone and all the cursed energy gone with her, Maki's Heavenly Restriction activated fully, removing all cursed energy from her body and boosting her physical stats to an extreme level. (correct me if im wrong)

Nikkelz

I got spoiled on this episode ages ago by manga readers but it honestly took zero enjoyment from that. Amazing fight.

Lixien

You're right except for the "can't see curses" part. Full Power Heavenly Restriction heightens their senses to an extreme, and one of them is sight. Basically, their bodies become so strong to the point that they can see curses. Toji could see curses without glasses remember? Maki is the same. The difference between a sorcerer and them is that sorcerers can also "perceive" cursed spirits. Basically the energy around them. Toji and Maki can't perceive this energy, but they can "physically" see them thanks to their superhuman senses. It's similar to how Gojo couldn't sense Toji since he has no Cursed Energy, but could still see him normally obviously.

LuciusArtoriusCastus

in case you didnt notice, when mai died and took all the cursed energy allowing makis heavenly restriction to be complete, the sword she made for Maki is a recreation of a sword Toji had used before, the name and its ability might be revealed later so i wont say

Vicente Machuca

mai and maki are one in jujutsu because they are twins while mai is alive, the heavenly restriction that maki has, that gives her physical abilities in exchange for not having curse energy, was weak because her sister had curse energy so when mai died, the heavenly restriction was activated fully making har basically like toji

Vicente Machuca

surely this goes both ways, so if maki died, probably mai would gain lots of curse energy. also "when i create this i'll die" is about the blade she got, that blade is the last she got from her sister

DRACO

Ahh I see, rather than Maki perceive cursed energy she can only sees them now because all of the five senses max stats. So a person like Maki/Toji cannot perceive cursed energy but only sees them by the eye? That's why Maki doesn't uses her glasses anymore for her to see cursed spirits?

Lixien

Yup.

Loading Codex

The Killbill vibes were crazy. It was all I could think about when I first watched that scene

K2C5

(This was said in the beach scene with maki and mai) The reason maki powered up is because mai died. Theyre twins and jujutsu sorcery sees identical twins as one individual, which means as long as both of them are alive the other cant reach anywhere near their full potential. Mai took the little cursed energy that maki did posses with her when she died and created the maki seen in this episode. So yes Mai is dead for good sadly. In the same way if maki had died then Mai's technique would have been insanely strong.

DRACO

I see okay. Thanks for the correction and explaination.

LuciusArtoriusCastus

and that blade is a recreation of a sword Toji had, its ability is kinda OP

Valde

One of the best episodes I’ve seen 🙏🏻

Airtiger

As a lover of both Frieren and JJK, I think that people are too quick to point out that when something has good animation and fighting, it is seen as "only liked for the animation without complexity" Frieren gets a pass for its incredible story telling, but JJK might get a lot of that criticism, but I think that criticism is said by people who really have understood the anime. JJK is incredibly complex. Think about how many times they explained the a cursed technique and its implications, and yet how some characters have won to get around those fights.

Ven0mDem0n

trying to explain the scene with the mother, how i understand it. the mother was forced to hate her own kidss because they were twins. after maki came for her she maybe realized that maki broke chain around her neck so in her last moment she wantet to "help" her by killing naoya

Kindyh Bordat

The manga was even more epic, the anime is more emotional. Also, Mai took all the curse energy they shared together (because they are twin) and created a OP weapon. Which finally made Maki heavenly restriction complete. If Maki died Mai would have a bigger pool of curse energy and could create broken curse tool on a whim. What i'm trying to say is that for twin in JJK to express his full potential, the other have to sacrifice himself, that's what Mai did, leaving her with a final gift to help her destroy it all.

Roli D. Great

Holy shi*!!! Maki cutting her father's brain out in half while the opera song in the background is dancing with Maki's sword...holy cow! What a subleme episode MAPPA created out of this manga chapter!

TrivialRisk

I watched this episode on my lunch break. Big mistake. I almost started crying in the middle of the break room.

Kyle Jr.

HOLY SHIT, watched on my lunch break and DAYUM!!!!!!!!!!!!

RSquirrel

Did anyone else feel something odd about this episode? I was watching it and while I love the story developments that are happening, the animation being beautiful as usual, this just didn't grab me at all. The entire situation in the vault just felt wrong and I don't know why, I guess it just felt like the presentation/directing was lazy? Also the fight just didn't do a good job of presenting what was happening (Besides amazing animation) and all the stances up shots with the dust? I have liked and disliked parts of jjk but due to this incongruent feeling I can't put this anywhere my favourite episodes. This just felt like an poorly executed, ok episode for a great series that usually has flawless execution.

TrivialRisk

I haven’t read the manga so I don’t know any more information than you do but here’s my understanding of what happened. It seemed pretty clear to me that Mai is dead, I don’t think there’s any way around that. I think that Mai took all of her cursed energy AND all of Maki’s cursed energy and made it into that sword that she was holding. Now that Mai is dead so they no longer interfere with each others strength due to being twins and now that Maki has no more cursed energy, Maki now has the same strength as Toji due to her heavenly pact. I also think that Mai’s death somehow acted as some kind of binding vow that increased Maki’s strength or saved her life but I’m not sure about that one. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed!

SamJaz

Short answer: Mai is dead. Longer answer: We know Mai is dead because Maki got the power up. If Mai was still alive, Maki wouldn't have gotten the power up. Mai was explaining this on the beach, and it's been brought up earlier in season 1. So as far as Jujutsu Sorcery is concerned , Twins are considered one person, and the power that one person was supposed to have is unevenly split between them. The moment one of the twins dies, the other gets an enormous boost in power as they become their "true" self. Mai never had the motivation to achieve anything much with her cursed technique, whereas Maki was always training her tiny amount of strength as a mini-Toji as best she could. The moment Mai died, Maki became stronger than Toji ever was because all of her efforts up until now was suddenly compounded upon by having Toji's physical prowess.

SamJaz

When I create This sword. She died once the sword finished being made.

Dave M

Yeah... I read it years ago and revisited the manga for this upcoming episode. The direction definitely seemed a bit odd. My biggest gripe was maki exorcising the curses and ogi's comparison to toji. Probably one of my favorite panels in the manga and it was oddly represented. I don't think this episode could have ever lived up to the hype I held for it but they sure tried hard. I still dig it no doubt about it

Deathmark

I said the same thing when I watched this episode about kill bill

Stavik96

Didn't get this fight spoiled for me nor that Mai would die, honestly didn't expect it at all so this episode was a mix of happy and sad. Have not been able to avoid spoilers about later deaths though which is a real bummer.

no u uwu

The first thing I thought once Maki beat Naoya was “get fucked”😂I hated that dude

CaptainVanisher

There have been at least a dozen characters that are far worse than him so why did you specifically hate him?

CaptainVanisher

Not really. The way I understood it is that her mother hated the fact that she gave birth to twins aka weak heirs to the clan and she was probably shamed for it her entire life. She killed Naoya because she probably despised the entire family and Naoya was basically the representative. Also she said she did not regret giving birth to Maki anymore because she did gain the strength to destroy the family that she hated and put her also out of her own misery.

CaptainVanisher

Naoya is the goat. He singlehandedly exposed the entire jjk fanbase on media literacy. He was also a very well-written and well-placed character.

no u uwu

Bro literally said a woman deserves to be stabbed in the back if she walks ahead of a man, not to mention his child self was excited to see a beaten and broken man(Toji), someone quite clearly on the verge of breaking from the mental anguish. Don’t get me wrong-in the context of people from the show he’s on the lower end. His bratty asshole attitude isnt gonna beat out sukuna destroying the entirety of Shibuya or mahito killing nanami + thousands of others right.

rarebearvt

I always said JJK is overhyped, but this episode is incredible

Grey4953

I feel like you're turning into Nicholas light with those overreactions lol you're even pausing so much your reactions are 10 minutes longer than what they used to be, even for jjk too, I suppose I get it if it's meant for the normies but idk something I noticed that made the reactions less natural at least for me, I was chilling eating cereal when I watched the episode, didn't even remember maki had a twin sister so those scenes didn't even hit for me

syaimaral

I love how she skid like one punch man.

Moshi

Zen'in clan now consists of Maki and Fushiguro, since Tsumiki is his step-sister. That's all that's left.

Hilyyu

Fun fact, mappa recruit lot of animators for this episode

Finelia Braun

WTF? Her plot with her sister was so heartbreaking already in the first season, how is it possible to forget that, lol?

FrankLeeroy

If you're running a reaction channel you kind of have to "overreact" to convey your emotions to the viewer. No one would waste a minute on Lukes videos, if he'd just be sitting there expressionless (I know you didn't mean it that way). That said, I also noticed that Lukes style of conveying his emotions did shift a bit in Nicolas direction. But I kind of understand that because, when he's not "reacting as hard", I sometimes see viewers asking if Luke doesn't enjoy a show. So I guess he chose to spice it up. I agree that Luke keeps pausing too much. He doesn't give the show any chance to answer the questions he is about to ask. It's sometimes really a shame since the question often gets answered in the next 3 minutes. (I'll also write this in a seperate comment so Luke hopefully sees my critique) I'm not suprised you forgot about Makis sister. I think the show should've done a short memory refresh for the viewers. I mean let's be real, who the fuck remembers the Maki Mei situation after the Shibuya Arc?? Hope you enjoyed my 20 page essay. It's 2am why am I even doing this?

FrankLeeroy

Hi Luke. I've noticed that you often don't give the show any chance to answer the questions you are about to ask. It's sometimes really a shame since they often get answered in the next 3 minutes. Maybe you are just unlucky with your pauses idk but if you at least wait until the end of a scene, you might save yourself a lot of headache.

Kyle_116

Well Mai did say to destroy all of it. Twice for emphasis.

marco masento

They are twins so they are considerate 1 individual by the cursed energy system. If make died than mai would have a normal amount of CE and be able to fully use her tecnique and if mai died (like she did) than maki would have 0 CE effectively becoming like Toji.

Dj

Good riddance. Go to the bottomost depths of hell Naoya

Kitsune

tbf it's a very hype episode. He's gotta pause for his inputs or he'll talk over the anime instead especially he's not cutting any part of the episode.

Dolphin Man

The mom doesnt believe Makis living her life in a way befitting of a woman. She believes this cause of the environment she was raised in. Shes telling her to turn around as shes about to go into the vault to where her dad is. Maybe then everything could go back to the way the mother thinks it should be. With the women behind the men. And her daughters wouldn't have to die. Remember, she realistically also talked to Mai before this. Nor was Mai even 100% gonna die, this only happened after Mai made the cursed tool. She probably had a similar discussion, perhaps more in depth with Mai before this, or at the very least had enough of an idea of the plan to tell what went on in there. Shes scared to stick up for herself and to go against the system that she was raised in. And she sees Maki sticking up against the system as an attack on her as an individual, that brings shame on their family. However. Its only after Maki destroys the entire clan, and thus the prejudiced system it created, ending with herself the woman who raised her into that system that the mother was capable of atoning for what she did by stabbing Naoya in the back. With all the systems that were in the way destroyed. She can truly admit shes glad she gave birth to them.

Michael

You were always wrong

Michael

He’s not really turning into Nicholas but he is starting to way exaggerate the things he says. As for the pausing, I think it’s better when people pause longer to talk about stuff.

rarebearvt

lol, chill, we can have different opinions

Alderanex

The zoom onto the kids was actually a flashback to Naoya bullying Maki all the time when they were little. Because, who is bullying who now…? (And i, personally , do not like comparing this to, or even mentioning, Solo Leveling, it is not in the same realm, though hardly anything is)

TheErisianMonk

19:00 It's "Kill Bill" + "John Wick" energy, as far as I can tell. The directing and choreography is magnificent.

TheErisianMonk

He does, at times, tend to delay the satiation of his curiosity and hype by mere moments so much. Just like Cawcawtv, though not remotely as bad. I couldn't tell ya why it can feel so aggravating, but sometimes, it does. Which is hella frustrating, because I dig Luke more than 96% of reacters I watch. I think...it's redundancy. If it's obvious that the answer/reveal is literally on the lips of a character who is onscreen, stopping them from saying it, just to make a big deal like it's a Great Mystery of the Universe, feels pointless and obtuse. Then again, perhaps this is a sacred art of Reaction Fu that is just too big brain for me to vibe with. At least with Caw, the aggro feeling toward him feels natural, since he's of the ancient Shit-Stirrer ninja clan. With Luke, he can spend a whole week saying/doing the dumbest shite, and I'd be so irritated, and I'll still love his content. His spunk and fervor and positivity got me to subscribe the minute I stumbled onto his channel.

TheErisianMonk

He was lots of fun to hate. I appreciate him for being the fucking worst. 👌

TheErisianMonk

Nicely put. And Maki was never happy to be strong ever again. Lolz. Kidding, but she's gonna be a special kind of pissed off that her precious little sister had to die, after they were both "killed" by their father, which was after Maki got BBQ'd during a battle where her lack of strength was beyond evident. She's got plenty of reasons to burn it all fucking down. She did a fine job.

TheErisianMonk

36:05 I am utterly bewildered that you asked such a thing, Luke. I thought that Maki yelling at her sister's collapsed, dead eyed, not responding corpse, in a pool of blood, was a pretty clear sign that Mai died, just like she told Maki was going to happen. 🤔 If you actually missed the point that Mai gave her remaining life to manifest that OP cursed sword, as she explained on that beach, for Maki to use, I'll be pretty let down. 😵‍💫

Frentzy

=.=...... Guys are you new fans or something?.... He is legally obligated to comments constantly so if he gets sued ever he wins the case, as long as he uses this formula he is safe. He obviously doesn't wanna do that but it's a requirement. The reactors who don't do that and are 'better reactors' they are nowhere to be seen, why? cuz they got wiped off this platform. It's a reflex at this point for luke. And it is a good one, without it, he'd also be gone.

Frentzy

bruh what are these people...... I watch all anime reactions he add. Just by the definition of "Hype", the more hype something is the longer it gets. He did the same in episode 1 of sentenced to be a hero. then ep 2-3? not too much. This was just giga hype and it make sense. Personally I am happy he finally understand quality. In s3 part 2 attack on titan his reaction to certain insane animation scenes were lackluster, but the reason for that is he didn't understand how insane it was. His brain as an anime watcher has developed and he is seeing one of the best animations of HIS LIFE . I just can't be against luke when clearly the man has seen something we will probably NOT see again this year at the very least, probably the animation of the year this episode. If he was like this but for average animation and the episode would be 40+ min then in that scenario i'd agree with you. Also this episode had extra 5 min of animation compared to normal, so his video would've been 38 min (previous ep was 38 min but that's cuz they dumped 1000 words on screen he had to pause and read, without those, he'd have 33 min max) Just please watch his ORB reaction series and you will understand he is not nicholas light whatsoever, that is the most "base version" of luke. And this episode, this is luke being closest to nicholas light. I believe only JJK and Solo Leveling make him like this, he just love aura flex. THis man is visually g00ning to aura flex characters. And you will notice the more aura flex a char has the more luke become nicholas light (because this is what he secretly actually enjoy, pure battle shounen with million dollar budget). He was the same when gon in HxH ep 131, he lost his mind and his mouth was open and he kept pausing and repeating that episode over and over, it took extra 10 min to finish. AM I just a defender of luke or I speak facts? I'd say both.

Frentzy

multiple teams of animators for different scenes, to save time they outsourced it. so this is why it felt wrong, it wasn't one coherent thing and yes it was more like in a video game 'cutscenes' and we jumped from cut scene to cut scene with different animation and music. Since the director that does the usual stuff didn't do the direction for the animation outsourcing there is a difference which you notice it and it breaks the immersion for you. I don't blame, for me this was 10/10. Luke's explanation is what made it 10/10 for me tho to be clear.

RSquirrel

Thanks for the explanation. In that case a better explanation would be, instead of lazy, all over the place and not the good kind. The lazy feeling probably came from it being slapped together the way it was. I think I was just thrown off because I felt like what was happening should be amazing given what was happening story and animation wise. Someone told me what chapters this episode corresponds to so I read those and there I got a slight tense hart gripping feeling, which probably would have been bigger if that was where I first read it. I posted this comment in 2 other Patreon reactions after watching just Lukes reaction and it's wild seeing how some other people responded (I mean in both ways- thinking I was shutting on it and agreeing while others shit on my existence as a blasphemer). Thanks for the reasonable comment that seems to be getting more and more rare these days.

Dovydas Pilka

you speaking facts the more the peak something is the more the same reaction it gets from people cuz they can only look up

FrankLeeroy

1. Not a new fan. 2. It's not about that he pauses so much in general. I feel like the pauses recently became just badly timed (to explain it in a few words). I fully understand that the pauses allow him to upload the reaction as a whole at all.

Frentzy

The more popular an anime is, the more it attracts more people. This mean that more negative actors will be present, so in case of JJK.... there are a lot of dumb low iq people that they don't comprehend what criticism is. "he say bad? he dumb and he should stop watching", probably some reverse intellectual out there.

Christopher Wells

17:17 Saying this is the best jujutsu episode just because of the Mai's death is kinda wild considering she hardly got any screen timeband nobody talks about her. They did a better with Nanami and Nobara

Rem is best waifu

Yeah I told my son wow this is just like Kill Bill, he didn't know what I was talking about bc he is 16. I feel so old.

Fernando Lahude

Man, Mai just took all of jujutsu cursed energy present in her away, breaking the bond between twins that made Maki's Heavenly Pact don't work as intended (because her twin Mai still had curses energy), that way Maki now had no cursed energy remaining, making her just like Toji. The thing she created was fhe weapon (Becauze Mai's Cursed Technique is creating Cursed Tools, just like the Gun in season 1).

Tich

i POSTED THIS SOMEWHERE ELSE: I THINK THIS SHOULD EXPLAIN MOST. Feel free to read it, is pretty long. NO spoilers. This is really long but I haven't read the manga or anything. I hope it helps understand, most of what you wanted. I'll answer for ya :). Firstly points don't matter until the game starts and you are in the zone dedicated to it. ALSO always keep this in mind just as physics run the world in the background. Jujutsu also enforces it's mechanics, rules, checks, balances most of all fate. It has jurisdiction of all who have even a minute amount of cursed energy.(So every person). Easy to think of it as the gears or system that makes the world work. (Gojo forcing spirits to be stronger, managing pacts with people, with heaven, give/take like sakunas domain has a hidden way out, so it extends the range due to trading strength for size. Oh and an episode ago The six eyes are always born when the star plasma vessel is.) So Maki has a heavenly pact, like Toji (Megumi's) dad did. She should be as strong as him, but her pact is weaker and she still has a tad of cursed energy which makes her version of the pact weaker. She also left the clan to chase strength(ep. 17). Mai has matter creation, already weak as it takes all her energy to make one bullet. It's even weaker because he has no motivation to want to be stronger and because she is 'half a person' the same as Maki is 'half a person'. What makes them even weaker is from "mechanics" that control the jujutsu system, they are viewed as one entity. Since both want to go in different, near opposite directions they make almost no progress. (The same way the strongest sorcerers are the most selfish (because mentality is everything, ep23 megumi's domain.) Since they are one person they do not have a set mentality like if they both wanted to grow (they'd still never reach full potential though, as the power is spread across both.) OKAY SO FINALLY WHAT MAI DID: From what I know, They were both to die, only Mai knew that being twins she stopped Maki's full potential, she's always appreciated and loved Maki's lead and strength in adversity, her true big sister and only real family and bond, through twins and trauma. I believe Mai makes a pact, to take the last of maki's cursed energy (keeping her down by the jujitsu system since it has dominion of her holding her down) she traded essentially her half of a person her dreams, love etc, making her whole. (That would also require trading her life). However like all abilities they have rebounds. She uses everything and her life to create Toji's famous cursed weapon. That drained her cursed energy she took from mai and her life force. Essentially putting her whole essense into the blade making it cursed (which you can curse something when you die. (Also probably isolating ALL the cursed energy they share into the blade and out of Maki. Kinda making her complete with the blade. Now because she has no cursed energy her heavenly pact changes, to the full potential that Toji had. She now is also no longer controlled and restricted by Jujutsu system and laws, she becomes a lot less vulnerable to cursed energy, no longer needs glasses etc. She is now just like toji's explanation in ep 29/s2 e5. The body draws a hard line every sense hightens and being the only person alive without any at all, becomes superhuman. DAMN I hope that explains it, didn't expect it to be that long. I hate typing and it's hard with no questions on exactly what you want to know, but also find the answers damn cool. I hope I didn't miss anything.

T3RS1

Just as I thought. What I was not sure about was how exactly did she powered up so much but I knew it had to do something with Twins bond. I did not understood because I did not know how complex their bond was. Just because Mai existed it rendered Maki's Heavenly pact not function properly or at all. Kinda cool ... Thank you for explaining. I watch Jujutsu only as anime so I did not knew all details just from watching it. I knew how she created that blade and what she did overall but not all details. I was thinking while watching it about Choso and his blood bond with his brothers. It would make sense that in that world even blood can create a link between sorcerrers.

Stefan Jipa

1:19 Lmao, this burned harder than the entire fight🔥 3:03 Toji girl? 4:28 the doom slayer?! 17:08 Yep, I love it, it’s perfect 19:09 Yes, I definitely can see Kill Bill Even there will be more crazy things in this part, I think this will remain the best episode Waiting for Zoro. Hope he doesn’t get lost🤭 22:57 that’s another problem for another day

Shadow 55

The “block” animation for cubes and mountain destruction im pretty sure has been around for nearly a decade atp. It was introduced by studio bones i think. The studio behind my hero academia.

The Pots

> Luke pauses to appreciate scenes and stuff and to not miss things > this dude complains cuz he's pausing a lot > same dude didn't even remember Maki had a twin sister (which I think shows the average JJK fan) the joke speaks itself

Dethrox

But.. they were both dying... :D i though Mai created something that ''healed'' Maki :D having suddenly no cursed energy wont heal your body ? or do ?? :O

Shadow_284

Holy shit the art direction in this ep was amazing. Probably one of the best episodes I've ever seen. Also, you're overthinking the whole 'Maki and Mai on the beach' scene. It was just representative of the afterlife, both of them on the verge of death, Mai dying and taking Maki's last bit of cursed energy with her. Because Maki now had 0 cursed energy, she became exactly like Toji was. Her Heavenly Pact boosted to its full potential. What I didn't realize until I read the comments, was that Mai used the last of her cursed energy and her life to create the sword that Maki wakes up with. I saw it flicker a few times but didn't understand what that meant.

Junichirō☆

really cool explanation btw, almost exactly how I'd explain it too
