Gahd seeing Beyonce as a celestial reminds m me of her mortality 😔 SHE IS HERE!! Living in her divine purpose 🙏🏽👑

Ni Ni

Black is King is the visual to Beyoncé’s The Gift. It’s the soundtrack to the live version of The Lion King. Black is King is her version of the movie

Jamar

She did a documentary called “Beyoncé Presents: Making the Gift” also everything was filmed in Africa.

Tanesha S

SPOILED 😂 I couldn’t believe my behavior as if I wasn’t watching blurred versions before

pen

Yessssss

My’kel J

..Oh Luke! … Brown Skin Girl Got Blue Her First Grammy 💜❤️💜❤️‼️

My’kel J

Black Is King = The Black Version Of Lion King

jj 💜

The “riki robo robo rebe” actually doesn’t mean anything, it’s kind of like scatting in a way where you make sounds like a vocal improv

Noni

Omg, fellow Hive we're hereeeee!!! Mini documentary series next (can maybe go back to it) and then are we otw to Renaissance??

fry

crazy that one of her best albums is her most underrated

My’kel J

HE FINALLY SAID IT YALLL HE SAID THE THING FROM RENAISSANCE HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT … YALL KNOW THE TRACK 😉👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.. I LOOOOVE WHEN LUKE UNINTENTIONALLY & UNKNOWINGLY FORESHADOWS 🤣😂🤣😂

My’kel J

Find him a legit digital version and he will

Noni

Did we forget to tell Luke to have tissue on stand by?

PoshDoll

😩😩😩🗣️🗣️ YESSSSS now I can watch the rest! It was killing me 🤣

My’kel J

Guurrrll like a whole crackhead okay ✅!

PoshDoll

lol I saw he commented it was gonna take a few hours for it to load on here and I was hoping by the time I finished the first part there, cuz I wasn’t waiting, the rest would be here. I was wrong and had to check back all day like a fein 😩

Torri

@1:42:54 She is referencing the Biblical story of Moses. You should checkout the Dreamworks film "The Prince of Egypt" if you've never seen it! It's about Moses and is a classic Dreamworks film :)

PoshDoll

😩🤣🤣 HONESTLY

My’kel J

Ya know .. I’m just now realizing she released the gift with no music videos and then dropped a movie a year later ending the era … renaissance came after … and renaissance got a movie but no music videos .. WHICH WHAT IS WRONG WITH MOTHER NOT RELEASING THIS FILM FOR LUKE TO SEEEEEE !!!!! … anyways basically the new trilogy might get a full movie à la black is king

My’kel J

… this is not the comment section for that lol 😂 you know we don’t get sidetracked about bey lol 😂

My’kel J

OOOOO YES PLEASE FIND THAT FOR HIM AND GET IT TO HIM I DONT THINK ANYONE TOLD HIM ABOUT IT !!

Any

Its ALL in Africa. ✨️ No England no France.

My’kel J

LUKE START YOUR JESSIE REYES JOURNEY !!!! 30:00

My’kel J

32:27 lol I meeeann We Learned From Her lol 😂

jj 💜

Jessie Reyes is the woman who was rapping that scene in the jungle, the actual song is little bit longer with vocals from another artist but it’s actually speaking from Scar’s perspective of being cast out of the pride and the albino lions etc (which comes up in Mufasa that blue ivy voice acts in) and is the hyena stampede scene. Her verse is one of my favorites in the film!

PoshDoll

This movie was IMMACULATE!

PoshDoll

🤣😩😔 I broke

Tvo Sndvl

Check the lion king... that's your base... every character presented is an extension of every character in the movie, the Blue man, and also, are the extension of every spirit, every guide, also, I read somewhere o heard something about every outfit of Beyoncé on Find your way back is a constellation... from that one, you can understand everything your brain needs, and then every other interpretation you make, it's just art, meaning, to be interpreted..

mia the freeman

i really hope going forward that you take some time to do your own research on art like this prior to filming and/or uploading, rather than waiting for us to educate you on it, for the sake of everyone including yourself! especially with renaissance and cowboy carter, knowing the intention behind the work and maybe seeing the lyrics explained in depth on Genius.com will fill in a lot of gaps that going in blind might leave open. also pls listen to those on a streaming platform so you don't miss the transitions between the songs! anyways, happy to see you enjoy this film :) !!

Anamaria McKenzie

Loved your reaction!!! (Per usual) Def watch the behind the scenes for this film and then move onto Renaissance album, tour, film, then Cowboy Carter album. Also recommend a full reaction to Dreamgirls 😉

Tvo Sndvl

For example, mood 4 Eva is the representation of Hakuna Matata!!! that will your brain peace to appreciate and then reflect on it!!! you need to see it more than once... and also, I thank you for watching it with us!

My’kel J

THE WIFE PREPPED HIM HE SHOULDVE LISTENED LOL 😂 … but I REEEAALLYY NEED ONE OF US to find the renaissance film for him he HAS to see it .. but damn didn’t we end up getting here quick af lol 😂

Leah B

Hola Luke! I think a great musical for you to react to would be The Prince of Egypt. The music is just great and many non-religious people enjoy it even though it's a telling of the story of Moses. Its won a lot of awards and has a lot of big names involved in the making. I think you'll enjoy it.

Cici

React to her mini doc, making of the gift next plssssss!!!!

My’kel J

38:00 here the audio that is playing is the original version of what we know as “hakuna matata” that Disney didn’t want to credit or pay for then(or after).. so Beyoncé credited and paid them

Michael

We are here Thank you for this we so glad you enjoyed this beautiful Visual the most underrated album the making of this was amazing THE GIFT we definitely gone have to react to that soon to me it was pure art!!!!!! OMG it's Time for Renaissance Album

jj 💜

my favorite line from jay in this is when he says “helmet on a jet ski hit my head figured im me” there were paparazzi photos that got put out of him riding a jet ski wearing a helmet and everyone flamed him for it so taking that and saying well im Jay Z so of course im protecting my head is funny to me, goes with your commentary about the subtle shade throwing 😂

Markisha Jordan

The crazy thing about Brown Skin Girl is that Beyoncé did not like the song at first. Blue was in the meeting with her and when they left she kept singing it and because of that Beyoncé got on board with the song!

Noni

The one singing for Scar in the forest was Jessie Reyez. I think you'd love a few songs&music videos by her; she's an incredible writer

Tvo Sndvl

Also!!! Beyoncé is not just a singer, it's not just a performer, it's not just a musician, it's not just a producer... Bey is also an art curator and a historian... so, in that mix, in that LORE of Music, cinematography, literature, fashion, history, filmmaker is Black is King... Bey is the best artist in the world, and this is her tesis about what means to be black, what means to be a mother, a profesional, a daughter, a woman... a human being...

jj 💜

oh and there is a 7 episode series of Dissect podcast about this film/album if you wanted to check that out on your own but for sure PLEASEEE react to Making of The Gift 💝

My’kel J

40:00 Jay Z here is representing Timon and Pumba collectively.. Beyoncé is still a celestial leading “simba” somewhat rafiki but more than rafiki

My’kel J

41:45 EVERYTHING was filmed in Africa .. EXCEPT! one backyard scene in brown skin girl .. that was beys backyard 💅🏽

T

Yesss!! Kendrick!! We shall meet him again! But first Pleeease react to Kendrick’s Song “Beyonce” !!

My’kel J

-mood4eva .. JayZ is extremely intelligent.. Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter(female pop vocalist🤏🏽) wasn’t playing when she said she would upgrade her man .. made that man study and learn shxt cause she loves learning shxt .. so yea he’s pretty off the dome 24/7

Jefferson Santos

Black Is King is a visual album created by Beyoncé, inspired by the soundtrack of the 2019 film The Lion King. The project tells the symbolic journey of a young Black king who is guided by his ancestors as he searches for identity, purpose, and belonging. The film celebrates Black culture, ancestry, and empowerment, emphasizing themes such as self-discovery, resilience, and pride in one’s roots. It presents a powerful message about reclaiming identity and recognizing the value of Black heritage across generations. Throughout Black Is King, Beyoncé uses rich visual symbolism and references to African traditions, spirituality, and royalty. The narrative mirrors the journey of Simba, drawing parallels between personal growth and cultural awakening. The film also alludes to the African diaspora, portraying a connection between past, present, and future. The image of the man painted in blue is often interpreted as a powerful symbol rather than a literal character. The blue-painted figure can represent spirituality, transformation, and a connection between the physical and ancestral worlds.

Rocky

Black365 did a great analysis of this film on YT if you’re curious as to the African symbolism. But you definitely want to check out and react to the Making of the Gift documentary.

Mae Baucicot

You should react to her Oscar’s performance of “Be Alive”!!! and The Kobe Bryant Tribute ❤️❤️

Jefferson Santos

Also you should check it out the documentary she did for abc called "making the gift" which she explains the meaning of each song showing the artists behind it and bts footage of them producing the album

T

Beyonce is depicted as a celestial ancestor that is watching over Simba throughout this whole movie. She was up in the stars in “Find Your Way Back”, shadowing him in “Don’t Jealous Me”, she was sent up the “Nile” (ancient Egyptian burial) “We wear all tight white to the funeral” 😉 , showed him his dream heaven in “Mood for Eva” and received the souls that have passed onto the “Otherside”.

Paula Gailes

Beyoncé was the vocal character of Nala in the movie, Lion King, and Black Is King was made on that concept.

Torri

Don't feel ashamed btw! I pray that someone comes in to your life and leads you to seeing who God is! :) <3

jj 💜

wow i didn’t know this!

jj 💜

i was justtttt thinking about Be Alive the other day and did a rewatch. One of her most underrated performances i think!! he definitely has to see that one

My’kel J

lol 😮‍💨 we are such a MEEEEESSSS 🤣😂🤣😂🤣👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽

Darryl King

Oscar performance of “Be Alive” please

My’kel J

These are notes lukey!!!

My’kel J

Ate .. Can We Like This One Up Hive

My’kel J

Love thaaatt I’m gonna get into that for myself

My’kel J

And manager blue was born 👏🏽

Jefferson Santos

And they complement each other’s artistry so well, no matter what the haters say

My’kel J

Mmhmm !!! Took me out !

Danielle

Yes yes yes, We're here for the continued elevation of Beyoncé's artistry, She's truly one of one!!!!!! PLEASE WATCH "THE MAKING OF THE GIFT" DOCUMENTARY FOR THE ALBUM!! She talks about the African artist that she used to make this project, some of the recording processes, & the overall purpose/importance of this film/album!!!!! You would love it, just like this MasterPiece!!!!

Senè

I definitely think you should do a generic read up on what you're about to watch .. it will help your listening experience. Even if you ask a fan to do a write up for you that doesn't have spoilers but will guide your listening experience. You should do that for renaissance and cowboy carter.

My’kel J

1:08:00 .. So Beyoncé created & curated the OST for The Live Action Lion King.. It’s titled The Gift(highly suggest listening to that album in full it’s a completely different experience from Black Is King, it’s dead ass like listening to an audio book but with music .. same songs different transitions and interludes).. Black Is King Companions that album BUT the main inspiration and focus is that it’s truly a love letter to her first born son “Sir” … with Blue she was Mama Bear .. But When She Had A SON .. She Became A Lioness .. and youll hopefully see that show .. in the Renaissance Film theres a line that directly reflects that ..

Paula Gailes

Beyoncé also recorded an album, Lion King The Gift. K.dot was featured on a song. She parallels her/the black cultures life with the life/movie of Simba, both coming from Africa.

My’kel J

Baaabbyyy Luke has referenced reneigh track 3 A LOT in this reaction lol 😂

Paula Gailes

The songs featured in Black Is King comes from Beyonce's album, Lion King, The Gift

jj 💜

also yes, Brown Skin Girl was filmed in South London! They really traveled for this film, the all white location in Nile was filmed in Los Angeles. but it was primarily shot across Africa, mainly South Africa and Ghana. they got their miles for this one that’s for sure!

Tosha Renee'

CAN WE PLEEEEEEEASE GET A LIVE RENAISSANCE album reaction? 😩🙌🏾

Paula Gailes

Awards, including Best Music Film. "Brown Skin Girl" won the award for Best Music Video, while "Black Parade" won the award for Best R&B Performance. It was Beyoncé's 28th Grammy win, making her the most awarded singer and female artist in Grammy history. The film also won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Program at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

NutellaCookiez N'Oreoz

right?! Every time he says it I always go “cause she’s an _____ of course!!!”

T

I wish we can all just hop on a zoom call and give our explanations and interpretations!! A media analysis group project lol Patreon add the feature

My’kel J

I was not expecting to find the Renaissance film .. but I did 🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽 .. do I send it now ?!? Or do I wait til after the album so he doesn’t get tempted .. yall know what that cover gives lol 😂

Tahlia Bowie

Yess!!! This made me wanna watch Prince of Egypt again!! 🙌🏾

Gencarlos Nunes

Otherside is representing her miscarriage

fry

the way you were able to explain the black diaspora she was exploring without having full knowledge of it completely makes you one of my favorite reactors. i’ve seen a lot of people react to black is king and they don’t understand or even try to understand what it was about but you did thank you

Ron Snow

Beyonce is proof of God

fry

dreamgirls was in the youtube polls for his next musicals so i think we might be getting that after les mis

Noa Kalei

In my Top 3 favorite Beyonce projects.

Ron Snow

hit my head and forget im me

Cynthia Fenderson

And the fact that people were speaking so ugly about our Blue Blue made Brown-skin Girl so much more relevant!

Ana F

Black is King is the visual for Beyonce’s The Gift album. It was indeed a musical retelling of the Lion King when the live action movie came out (2019?). The album was her love letter to Africa and she showcased and collaborated with several African artists. Folks already mentioned the Making of the Gift! It gives some great behind the scenes into the making of this. Beyoncé is one of one. She has created such incredible pieces of art. She will surprise you every project and continue to evolve, stretch boundaries, and shatter ceilings! 🖤

Noni

Swear! it felt like we'd never approach Ren and now I'm scared for the email notification, lol. Someone's got Ren downloaded somewhere; album reaction and then the movie, for sure!

Karry forde

BLACK IS KING IS A MASTER PIECE. ❤️❤️❤️Luke is really really appreciate your reactions. Always authentic.

Cynthia Fenderson

Luke make sure remember the song My Power! It’s going to be very important in the future🤭🥰

RC

"Beyoncé is constantly redefining who she is" -- YESSS! EXACTLY THIS! This is why it's also so so sooo complex to explain why I love Beyoncé and why I'm such a fan.

Deonna Tillman

Luke you should know by now that the best is yet to come... it's time for the Renai Renai Renaissance

Deonna Tillman

Do not skip the remixes for Renaissance you will find Kendrick Lamar there

RC

I was waiting for you to reach "Brown Skin Girl" -- I cry to that song/video every time (almost) I watch it. What a powerful-powerful song. It extends to even just about one's "brown skin" -- but just for anyone to find beauty in ourselves and what we are blessed with because it's a part of who we are. "Your skin is not only dark, it shines and it tells your story" <-- always effin' gets me. 😭😭😭

Manstereon

Many of us in the beyhive think and believe that Otherside relates to Beyonce's experience with loss, including her miscarriage. But of course, she hasn't confirmed this officially.

T

Omg “there’s a version of me that never went down this rabbit hole” wow that shit hit me….

My’kel J

1:57:02 .. HEY LUKE .. FUN FACT .. THEY HAVE A COURSE IN BEYONCÉ AT YALE UNIVERSITY 🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽🤣😂🤣😂🤣 you just be knowing shxt lol 😂

T

He really tapped in fr. He think it’s random thoughts but like you called out it’s foreshadowing!!

T

Next: Making of The Gift (Black is king) …flood his YT comments yall! (One band one sound!)

Riley

♥️

Jaywoot

RENAISSANCE is next yesssss we almost are current. I know people also want to see the side reactions but the new album is almost out we need to get through renaissance and cowboy carter before the new album comes out so we can all react together in real time

Kira

You should def check out Tierra Whack, she was the first verse on my power. Insane talented extremely underrated

Manstereon

WE ARE SO CLOSE TO THE 3 ACTS LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO

Facundo Martz

You’re just one the greatest reactors Beyoncé has, and the most important thing is you GET HER. It’s so amazing to see that. Hope you can deep dive into the meanings of BLACK IS KING, it has so many and so beautiful messages behind them all. I’m so excited for what’s next: RENAISSANCE and COWBOY CARTER (neither of them have visuals and WATCH OUT for the TRANSITIONS both of them have). Please do have some insight on the reason WHY of these 3 acts before starting that journey. You’re the BEST! Watching you from Argentina!

Mia Speakz

Thank you so much, Luke. This was spiritual for me. More than just her love letter to Africa and a dedication to her son but a reminder of how important we are as people. It's uplifting and an amazing gift to who i am as a black woman.

Saphire

Beyoncé is a true lightworker. Her art changes people. I'm watching it in effect whenever I watch you, Luke, react to her artistry. It's truly amazing to witness. ❤️

Kya

Part of me really wishes we watched the making of the gift or listened to the gift before watching this but so excited nonetheless! Yes the gift and black is king is a modern retelling of the lion king. Each song follows the story of simba which is so cool. And where lemonade was heavily centered on the woman’s specifically the black woman experience moving through the world and heartbreak and what our goals for the future should be, black is king is presented as a love letter to Beyoncé’s son Sir. He can look back on as he learns to navigate the world as a young black man. And what I always thought was beautiful was that even in lemonade she takes so much care to understand her partner’s (i.e. the black man’s) experience and pain in the world, and here she centered that but also adds in a song like brown skin girl not only for the Brown skin girl listening, but also I like to think as a playbook for the men who love us on how to love on us like we deserve, especially from the first verse. I’m like president of the gift and black is King is underrated society. So I’m always like guys there are so many layers to this! 😂 always excited to see people react to it

Milkyway

This is the last visuals from Beyonce

Chelsey Faulk

Otherside ties in both Beyoncé’s miscarriages but also the ancestors of those who experienced the Atlantic slave trade as many perished at sea during those 200 plus years of active trading and selling of African slaves to the Americas. Her Mother Tina actually talks about it in her book. Beyoncé experienced 6 miscarriages before she had Blue 💙. She was like a miracle baby

Justice Owens

Since we are approaching Renaissance there are a few things you should know if you don’t already. Renaissance is Part 1 of a 3 part series of albums. Part 2 is Cowboy Carter. Part 3 is TBD but is suspected to come out this year, 2026 (the year of the horse) probably around the time of the Met Gala. These albums are made to listen to front to back, the transitions are brilliant. They even transition into each other but you do not need to listen to both together, it’s not necessary. Also a fun extra that you should do after you finish Renaissance as it’s made, please do a bonus react to Cuff It (Wetter Remix) and America Has a Problem Remix. A DJ on Tik Tok made a mix of Cuff It, which was going viral on there, and the song Wetter by Twista and that mix went so viral Beyonce got the sample cleared and re-recorded a new version of the song and even credited the DJ as well. Then… lol… Drake… Drake being shady again, he helped work on one of the songs from Renaissance… and at a time where “House/Dance music” was not “in” at the moment, Beyonce of course had this full plan and date for release… and as we know she is so secretive with her projects…. Well Drake for some reason thought it was okay to make his own “House/Dance” album and then release it the month before Beyonce released hers, idk if it was to get credit for making the music style popular or to hop on the wave early but he knew she was working on this for years and still undercut her anyway… but then Beyonce randomly in 2023 released a Remix to America Has a Problem with Kendrick Lamar. It’s a year before the beef and please listen because this was definitely the warning before the warning.

Jon Dickey

As you're approaching Renaissance, I highly suggest, Album first, Movie second, THEN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A FULL LIVE SHOW, including transitions. There are some good options on YT.. There's definitely a hi-def version where it's a compilation from many shows showing different outfits from all the different nights. I think there's concert set transition compilations too that are goooood to watch together for RWT and CC. CAN NOT WAIT for these upcoming reactions, Luke!! You hit the nail on the head so much!! This is all foundation for the Renaissance Trilogy ERA I think you might catch up in time for actiii I stand by that what BEYONCE is giving us is THE HIGHEST ART of our time!! She is the BAR!!

Jon Dickey

I hope someday we get an actIV movie fullll of all the visuals but for now at least we have the RWT and CC YT vids and the tour transitions I can't stop watching!

Jon Dickey

During Lemonade or Homecoming when he said she's taking off on a rocket into space I was so 👀🤯

Naptural YEEN

Too bad this project was snubbed by alot of award ceremonies

My’kel J

SNUUUBBED HEAVILY !!

Jon Dickey

Renai Renai Renai Renai Renai Renai Renai Renai Ssance!

My’kel J

The last visuals **FOR NOW.. she done already told and showed yall there are visuals .. she teased the visuals at the start .. she teased the movie when she said “you are the visual” .. but she meant THAT VISUAL not THE VISUALS .. MUSIC FIRST .. VISUALS LATER .. it was the same with the gift and black is king .. we didn’t get visuals for a whole year (obviously that was her way of testing the waters)

Ania K.

Great reaction as always, Luke! 🙌 You’re getting really close to the Renaissance era now, which is super exciting. I’d actually recommend checking out the Renaissance album first before diving into the film, since it kind of feels like the next chapter. It’ll make the whole experience flow better, especially with how everything evolves artistically—and you’ll also get to see more of Blue Ivy stepping into the spotlight 👑✨ Also, I really hope you can get through ACT I, the Renaissance Movie and ACT II before May 29th 👀 The Hive is lowkey convinced ACT III might be dropping that day, so we gotta move fast if we’re gonna experience this era together 😂🐝 Can’t wait to see your journey through it!

Laura da Silva

To help you with Otherside, because there's a lot of nuance in this film. Some things only come to you on a third or fourth watch, and others might even require an online search or two. “Otherside” has always felt like the most spiritual moment in the film for me. While it references Moses, it’s less about survival and more about surrender: the journey of the soul finding its way back. It also mirrors The Lion King: Simba's return to the Pride Lands, to his identity, to purpose, to his mother. The water doesn’t represent death, but transformation, which is something deeply rooted in African spiritual traditions of rebirth and ancestral connection. If you think back on the other moments you see Bey in the film, she feels like a spiritual witness or guide, watching him lose himself and eventually come back. And in this moment, the mother’s act of letting go becomes an act of faith, trusting her child will return to himself and to God. Knowing this project is dedicated to her son, Sir Carter, makes it even more powerful. It feels like a quiet message: you may drift, but you will find your way back (which is a running theme on different scales throughout the film - from identity, to race, to family, etc).

Sunshine Williams

Every part of this video was filmed in the continent of Africa

Bey Brown

Not all in Africa. The tree in Already is in her backyard. She also filmed in Belgium & London. So he might have been right

K

You should react to the (making of the gift) it gives you a bts look at the creation of the album

Bey Brown

Beyonce has always loved the water. Once she described the ocean as “God’s peace” She said It makes her feel small in a world that see her in such a huge light. In a way it grounds her.

Ania K.

I get the idea behind making The Gift documentary, but right now it feels like it could pull focus from what actually matters. The momentum is in continuing the journey with Renaissance and Cowboy Carter—that’s the story that’s alive and evolving in real time. Instead of branching off, it would make more sense for Luke to stay locked in on that path and keep building on it. The documentary can always come later, but the timing and energy around this current phase won’t wait.

Bey Brown

I like the way you laid that out! I wondered why during the King’s funeral we also saw her being carried.

Bey Brown

Where did you find it?

gabby 🦋

yess like i don’t mind the gift doc but you’d swear he’s a writing a thesis on her the way they want him to watch every little thing 😭

Edmina Liutkė

The Otherside can be interpreted many different ways. That’s the beauty of it. But in this case it represents coming back to one’s self and allowing your ancestors to lead you. The storm in between, and swimming through unruly waters represents the inner fight it takes to reject your ego, process and accept your true self. In my opinion shots going back and forth between a baby and an adult has to do with an adult going back to the moment you were born. We are most innocent and spiritually the most connected and protected by our ancestors as children.

Angela Ramirez

She isn’t human! Some may say she is an Alien Superstar 👀

Ania K.

prrrrrrrrrrr ohhhh this is what I wanna see :D

Angela Ramirez

I love that you say that brown skin girl is for Blue 🥹 the writer/producer for this song was working on the album and he really wanted this song. Beyonce kept rejecting it. He took a risk and played the song again and Blue was present and started singing along. Once Beyonce heard that interaction she immediately changed her mind and included the song to the album.

Truffles

You saying that Beyonce should be taught/is teaching the lessons that are being taught - there are very well known universitirs that DO use Beyonce as a basis for courses: Universities with Beyoncé-Focused Courses: Yale University: Offers "Beyoncé Makes History: Black Radical Tradition, Culture, Theory & Politics Through Music" (starting Spring 2025). Cornell University: Offered "The Beyoncé Course". Rutgers University: Pioneered "Politicizing Beyoncé" in 2014. University of California, Berkeley: Included her work in pop studies. University of Illinois at Chicago: Offered "Beyoncé: Critical Feminist Perspectives and US Black Womanhood". University of Texas at San Antonio: Offered "Black Women, Beyoncé & Popular Culture". Arizona State University: Offered courses through Barrett, The Honors College. California Polytechnic State University: Offered Beyoncé-themed courses. University of Victoria (Canada): Offered "Beyoncé 101". University of Waterloo (Canada): Taught a course on Gender and Performance using her work. University of Copenhagen (Denmark): Offered "Beyoncé, Gender and Race". Vanderbilt University: Held seminars focused on her music and cultural influence. So it's happened and will hopefully continue happening :D

Edmina Liutkė

The song in the credits is called “Black Parade”. It was released on June 19, 2020, to coincide with Juneteenth. Also, in the midst of pandemic and tragic killings of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor with huge protests that followed. Definitely listen to the song.

Teriagotemhookd

We are so close to Renaissance. I know future Blue is going to have him in his feels. I think you should watch Be Alive performance. And you can also watch Making of the Gift next to get some understanding.

Curwin Sphere

I find myself getting teary eyed because you're crying. I totally understand now why you don't want to see Beyoncé crying in her visuals 😂. It's so refreshing to see someone be so open to experiencing and understanding without unnecessary judgement, Beyoncé projects. Her art is doing exactly what she intends it to do. It's beautiful to see someone experience her work for the first time.

T

Thanks. Well if she’s Simba’s ancestor, maybe she was a previous Queen. They showed the Kings funeral and a flash back to her funeral.

Senika Witherspoon

I love this album and the visuals. I’m convinced that the lack of appreciation for this project is the reason we haven’t gotten a visual album since lol! She put so much hard work and love into this project and it wasn’t appreciated. I often hear people list her albums and completely skip over Black is King (and the carters) like it doesn’t count which is crazy. So Luke just be prepared. Your visuals for the last two albums are the Renaissance film (which is structured similar to the Homecoming) and fan footage from the Cowboy Carter tour. To this day I wish we had visuals to these amazing projects because we’ve been so spoiled by her over the years lol. But it does force you to focus solely on the music and really soak it in.

Nicole N

exactly like I get why hive keeps saying it, but clearly there will be visuals for the full trilogy (they act like she'll never do them again).

Brenda T.

Due to possible time constraints, Renaissance album next!

Marez Canvas

Reacting to the making of the gift is something you would love. It shows all the behind the scenes footage. The music in this film is also apart of an album called lion king the gift. She made the album inspired by the lion king movie that she had a role in…so she decided to create a film as a love letter to Africa.

PoshDoll

Congrats on the Patreon stats, wow! Your reaction was so sincere and beautiful, I cried with you... even though I've watched this so many times. I loved how B had a South Asian woman in Brown Skin Girl, it made me feel so seen coming from a culture where my brown skin was something I was made to feel ashamed of. Please can we get more frequent Beyoncé content :)

HKAMILAH

Me too, so glad Luke did

HKAMILAH

The Making of the Gift first and then we move on

Teetee Scott

I had a good time lol didn’t go to bed until 12 🤣

Diamond Vinson

This was so underrated! So beautiful with the songs, the visuals, the hidden messages. This was absolutely beautiful ❤️

Classyboy86

But did your wife watch homecoming? Lol

Qweencasss

Dissect podcast on Spotify breaks the entire film/music down it’s super interesting!

TxMade

Beyonce played Nala in the live action The Lion King released in 2019. She made Black Is King: "The Gift" not as a soundtrack for the movie but as an accompaniment to the movie. The film is a modern retelling of The Lion King and if you pay attention to this film, it follows the actual film, highlighting all of the major points of the original story. In "Black Is King", Beyonce is Mufasa, the little boy is obviously Simba, and the guy painted in blue is spirit guide and theorized to be Zazu (the bird) or Rafiki. Scar, Timon and Pumbaa are all also represented in the film.

jeffuhz

Now that we're finally at Black Is King I just wanna say that every time Luke has ended a video with "and as always, you will see me…" I've replied with "on the other side" 😭😂 ETA: not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but the character who appears next to Beyoncé throughout the film (the one painted blue) is basically Simba's subconscious as he moves throughout his journey. He and Beyoncé both flit in and out of "reality" in the story, but he's basically a guide for what Simba is experiencing internally.

Angivens86

I believe she will release the visuals after the full project is complete. That, similar to her other projects will be so impactful and legendary, it will change the way many present their art!

Shad MadRad

I wish someone told him that black is king is the soundtrack for the live action lion king remake and this follows the storyline of that movie, it would have helped him understand so much more

jeffuhz

I read that the actor who plays the blue character described him as Simba's subconscious as he moves throughout the story, but I like the idea of him being a spirit guide too!

Helena

I second that documentary on what her thought process was behind this amazing film

Jon Dickey

And you can't tell me all the visuals in the tour transitions were made for only that!! There's A LOT!! Look up Lorebreakers on yt they got some THEORIES!!

It was kinda about the diaspora especially at the flags scene otherwise it was mostly about africa

Alexander Velichkov

I love all of the Bey reactions!!! Can you just please turn the music up. It is a bit too low and we have to have it at max volume :)

Marie

Oh thank you for this recommandation.

ThatSingerReactions

i think this or homecoming one or the other lost to like.... carpool karaoke which shows how black women get screwed over in the industry

Thiago Jerohan

THERE ARE NO DIFFERENT VISUALS FOR THE CREDIT SONGS. YOU JUST MISSED BEFORE I LET GO ON HOMECOMING AND BLACK PARADE NOW. REWATCH IT!

Thiago Jerohan

You should react to Beyonce playing Nala in The Lion King and singing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" with Childish Gambino (Simba)

Grady Jefferson

Its better to be spiritual than religious. I've been both and I can tell you, spiritual is the way to go. I feel its more about the connection you have than the practice of religion. Black is King is a spiritual journey. Hence this is why it connects so deep and hard and makes you really feel in an astral plane way.

Orlando

Luke, you struck gold with this one. As you’re starting to see, everything B does is intentional—layered with meaning and symbolism. I know you were trying to define her role here, and honestly, the best word is “curator.” She immersed herself in the work, sought out subject-matter experts, and collaborated with brilliant, authentic voices to help reimagine the story of The Lion King. I hope you keep that curiosity going and dive into The Gift album. That’s where much of the film’s music originates—it serves as a companion soundtrack to the 2019 remake. B, who voiced Nala in this version, leaned into the deeper meaning of “Nala” (often associated with “gift” in some East African contexts) and used the project as a way to give back to the African continent. The title couldn’t be more fitting. The Gift is essentially a love letter to the motherland and the diaspora—the global community of people of African descent connected by shared heritage despite being spread across the world. You’re really beginning to tap into what sets Beyoncé apart from the status quo. “Brilliant” doesn’t even begin to capture the depth of her vision, her intentionality, or her generosity.

Ronnie Williams

Luke I believe you’ve found God let him in unlock your heart He loves you and have great things in store for you❤️

Ronnie Williams

Also react to some Gospel songs like the Clark Sisters Karen Clark Shepard Ty tribbet Tamela Mann

Ronnie Williams

Also y’all he said Beyonce is the Queen of Aliens I can’t wait until Renaissance 😩😂🤣😭

Ire Zay

Luke, Black is King is a movie. The album is called The Gift. There's a Behind the scenes of Black is King on YouTube! You will love it! Feels good to be part of the Beyhive, doesn't it? Love!

Tiffany

This has been THE BEST REACTION YET!!! Thank you for being willing to show your emotions while reacting and trying to understand. This was beautiful. Definitely react to Black Parade and DEFINITELY watch the making of Black Is King it explains so much and you get behind the scenes footage. You get to see JayZ recording Mood For Eva. You get to see his "writing" process. I Can't Wait To See More ✨✨

Stephsmithanie

Your emotional intelligence is unmatched.

In spirituality, water represents rebirth/renewal/purification. Also…in the Bible/torah, it’s Moses in the basket. He’s found by the queen of Egypt and raised with her son and husband and eventually he finds out who he is and etc.

Aaron Adams

When he said it, I laughed so hard!!! He genuinely has NO IDEA!!! 🤣👽

Durwin Julies

Man, this took me back. It's was a highlight of my career being one of the producers of this film. Just being a tiny part of Beyoncé's genius that continues to impact so many. Wow

Hodge House

The entire film was done in Africa. Every building. Every part of nature. Africa is diverse. Unfortunately, many think it's only the jungle, animals, and dirt roads everywhere.

Zari

I can’t wait for you to re-experience “My Power” in the Renaissance era. You’re not even ready. It’s honestly become one of my favorite Beyoncé songs over the years. If you want more, Black is King is available as an album called The Gift. There’s also a documentary about the making of the album. The Dissect podcast did a season-long breakdown of Black is King like they did for Lemonade, and it is extremely informative! As a pro-tip, visuals are SCARCE from Homecoming onward. Always listen to the songs in the end credits because there’s no additional visual component. They’re always bonus singles attached to the project.

Mark

So you finally bumped into Beyonces version of The Lion King!

Mark

In Black is King Beyoncé represents an Ancestral Presence that’s guiding the young boy through his life.

Mark

Brown skin girl made Blue Ivy one of the youngest Grammy winners ever! She was 9 yo.

Jasmine W

Started crying before Brown Skin Girl even started fully playing lol same

A

Seconded this comment! I was surprised when he thought that those city backdrops couldn't have been in Africa. Great reaction regardless

brieva627

Watch “Beyonce Presents: Making the Gift” documentary on how she created the album “Lion King: The Gift”. It includes all the songs in Black is King

Rigo

Excellent reaction, as usual. Please please please look up some context for the next two albums (at least read B's IG post captions related to each album [can someone send these to Luke?]) and consider doing a longer form vid to hear the albums in one go, with lyrics pulled up!

Rigo

I don't care that much about transitions, but most people really want you to hear them, so if there's a way for you to stream the albums (rather than using YouTube) that would be awesome as well!

Pono Basso

I’m going to clip a part of it and clip the beginning part of your journey and post a Tik Tok about it. You are the best Beyoncé reaction channel ever.

My’kel J

No fr I would love to see what you end up creating

My’kel J

NOBODY TELL HIM ABOUT THE CONCERT .. IM GOING TO SEND HIM THE FILM SO HE CAN HAVE IT ON STANDBY … LUKE YOU ARE NOOOOT REEAADDYYYY ..

My’kel J

And yes I did purposely not finish this so I had something to watch today 🤣🤣🤣😂🤷🏽‍♂️👏🏽👏🏽

Michael

I had to watch again BLACK IS KING 🖤 WE ARE READY FOR THE RENAISSANCE ALBUM AND THEN THEN THE FILM.

Stacey A.

1:28:18 - I can't wait for you to see Blue Ivy live in concert. Dancing with all her mom's backup dancers. 💙🖤💛🖤💛💙

Tishae Griffin

I think you should do the ABC special on this and then react to Renaissance album, I'm dying to see that reaction.

Tyler Allen

When people talk about ‘seeing God, I personally don’t think they always mean it in a literal religious way. I think sometimes it’s just experiencing something so deep, overwhelming, and hard to explain that it feels bigger than just human emotion. Maybe it’s not about believing in something the traditional way, but about those moments that hit you so deep you can’t even put them into words. For example I have watched you since the beginning of this Beyonce journey before it started and seen all the little sneak peek moments of you and your boys, when you talk about them, when something reminds you of them. When they make appearances and The kind of love you feel when you look at your kids… the way you get emotional over them… that feels like one of those moments. It feels like something bigger than just love. I think you are already having the experience you thinks is missing… you just haven’t labeled it the same way. That’s just my perspective though which this isn’t about proving anything to you but more like me recognizing You might already be touching what you’re looking for, you just don’t see it that way yet. Much love❤️

Mimi

You have to watch the making of black is king it will make you appreciate the movie so much more

Javien Smith

Other side is about the story of Moses in the Bible

My’kel J

I Guess.. Not all of us have learned mothers secretive behaviors .. but there’s copies on YouTube quality is meh BUT it’s all we got she has since taken care of all the digital leaks lol 🤣🤣🤷🏽‍♂️ can’t help but Stan she so messy

Quentin Bosman

Black is king was honestly paid dust even by fans. We didn’t give it enough. The music alone is some of her best work imo. Also it lost the Emmy to James Corden’s carpool karaoke which honestly tells you all you need to know about society. White dude sticks a camera in a car and beats Beyonce.

Tina

You are THE best reactor of Bey 🙌🏼 can’t wait for more 🤗❤️

Tina

👏🏼 👏🏼

Delcenia Dames-Tucker

Baby Moses, not Christ. Moses' mother was Jochebed (or Yocheved), a Levite woman living in Egypt who displayed immense courage and faith by hiding her son for three months to save him from Pharaoh's decree to kill Hebrew baby boys. She eventually placed him in a basket in the Nile, leading to his adoption by Pharaoh’s daughter.

Jamila

Fun fact: One of Beyoncé’s heels broke during the Already dance sequence and she kept dancing lol you can see it’s missing if you look closely 😩🙌🏾

Erwin 𐚁

It’s Beyoncé drop day so in good tradition - I’m coming to the last post to share my excitement I think it should be the making of doc 🙌🏽 Wonder if “Dreamgirls” is still coming. Been enjoying his musical reactions.

Erwin 𐚁

Just wanted to clear up somethings I saw below there were not accurate The filming was carried out across six countries on three continents, with Beyoncé wanting to include both the African continent and diaspora.

pen

❤️❤️❤️

Aiofe

And it is interspersed into this film and the Lion King narrative as the river acts as a gateway between this world and the next. The baby Moses also represents Simba moving from childhood into adulthood and returning to the Pride Lands. The mother is saving baby Moses but also the line of kings as Simba returns to claim his rightful place as the heir.

Aiofe

Black is King played daily in my house for over a year and people got sick of me saying, “WATCH THIS! This part right here!” I was livid when it didn’t get the love it was due. I think over time it will continue to stand up as the incredible piece of art it was. Like a painter whose work is ignored until they pass.

Aiofe

I’m convinced people didn’t show enough appreciation to Black is King & that’s why we don’t get visuals anymore. She gave us a full fledged thanksgiving meal that fed the spirit & some people left meat on the bone.

leslie leslie

What à masterpiece. So what's next? Welcome to the re-nai-ssance!

Trina

The waterfall scene was shot in Arizona at Havasupi Falls (I probably spelled that wrong)

Trina

If my memory is correct, Spirit was reworked to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant, hence the purple and gold for the choir.

Tina

Anyone knows when is the new Bey reaction coming? 👀

Shay Tinney

He posted it on YouTube. He reacted to her performance for Kobe Bryant’s homegoing service.

Sydney Barrett

You're the only one who uses diaspora correctly 🥲

Leroy Gibbons

Other side is also about beyonces miscarriages

Queane Duarte

Hello, Luke! Please react to video Beyoncé - Precious Lord, Take My Hand (Live at the "57th Grammy Awards") [OFICIAL] - LINK: Beyoncé - Precious Lord, Take My Hand (Live at the "57th Grammy Awards") [OFICIAL]

THIS!!! Seeing Blue dancing in concert always brings tears. Like we literally have seen this baby just grow up!

astricalex

LUKE since you dont know the story of the baby in the basket and youre watching musical movies pls add the Prince of Egypt to the list!! (:

Destiny

Im not religious but spirit is honestly one of those moments/songs where you can feel the positive a religion can bring to a person!!
