An explanation on his nickname: His name is 出(izu)久(ku), but 出 can also be read as "de", and "deku" (木偶, pretty different writing, but same pronunciation) means "good-for-nothing". Ochaco says his name sounds like "you can do it" because it sounds similar to "dekiru" (出来る, notice the first kanji is the same), which means "to be able to do".

Kacchan is mad here, because he thinks Deku had a quirk all these years and deceived him. In his eyes, Deku didn't deem Kacchan worthy enough to use his quirk even through all the years of being bullied. He thinks Deku was looking down on him, maybe because he's projecting from himself, or maybe because he has self confidence issues himself and uses the anger to compensate that. Either way, I like Kacchan's complexity especially looking at all the background info, but god do I just want him to go get therapy.

I fell like the anime made a good enough job adapting the feeling but a subtle detail I wish they had explored more is when Midorya says “MY Deku means You can do it” its because in the manga Deku is not just an invented word Bakugo uses to insult Izuku. Deku is actually a derogative term meaning someone without quirks

Great reaction, bruv! Trust me, this show gets better and better. You'll find out that even though Deku is really idealistic and a bit too "good Boi", it's handled really well and both the hero and villain characters in this anime are extremely well written and masterfully realised. What I really loved about MHA is that all the characters act like someone with that history, background and upbringing could act, if they were real. None of the characters feel like a one-dimensional cardboard cut out.

In the dub, it was made clear that All Might's internal reaction to Deku's costume wasn't to like it; can't remember the exact words but it was something like "You're not meant to make it obvious we're connected you idiot!"

Bloody good take, mate. Thank you, I never even considered that, and I consider myself a Science nerd lol. My friends and I had an interesting conversation, though, about quirks that would be potentially disastrous if the activation were suddenly ceased. For instance, if Deku launched his erm level 2 style and right before impact his quirk was erazed, what would become of his limbs upon impact? lol. Another example is what would happen if Uravity was carrying something many times her weight above her and her quirk were erazed? There are so many scenarios to discuss and debate!! I love theory crafting!

I'm glad you're interested in watching Vigilantes! I think it's unfortunate they've started releasing Vigilantes after MHA (they released side by side and vigilantes has some stuff that released on time to enhance story points of MHA), but even if they messed up the synergy between the two stories, it's still an enjoyable experience.

I think you misread what All Might said about Aizawa's expulsion threat. He didn't just expel one student the previous year, but an entire class.

Sure Deku is in great physical condition for normal human levels. You have to remember that people with quirks are not your normal people and that their bodys have to have evolved to handle their quirks. If Bakugo had normal body he would have blown himself up already. Meaning that at the very least his body would have to evolve to take some impact from the explosions and his muscles would have to be stronger to keep his form steady as he makes those explosions.

Something I never noticed, Momo Yaoyorozu (I won't say what her quirk is to avoid spoilers) is for the most part a normal human, and yet she came in first place for that test.... I don't remember all the tests but at the very least she would be placing around the woman's average for 50m dash, standing long jump, the ball toss, and grip strength.... An argument can maybe be made for ball toss, but you're telling me she beat Bakugo in the rest???

I thought the same, when I noticed... but on second thought, her quirk could actually help her out quite a bit in most of the tests. I'm not sure it could help her in standing long jump, side jumps and sit ups, but I can think of something for the dash, the ball toss, and grip strength. Not necessarily enough to get first place in all of them, but enough to do better than most.

I'm not stupid, lol. Hating Baku is a choice, not a compulsion, lol. I'm perfectly aware he gets his "Vegeta" redemption arc moment. The only bully turned honourable good guy that I liked was Umezawa from Hajjime no Ippo. I don't actually hate Baku, but as I said, it's a choice. I'm allowed to have my biases.

Also also, Media literacy is not an objective thing. Art is always open for interpretation. The Hero's journey, for instance, has many forms. From the goody-two-shoes Deku, to the Villain is actually an Anti-hero trope... Not everyone will love both; most people will have a preference. The same goes for the Bad Guy with a Heart trope. Just throwing out the term "media literacy" as an answer is really dumb. It's perfectly reasonable to understand something on an intellectual level and still think it's a bad narrative, depending on your own values.

I think that is definitely a part of it, but a layer of Kacchan's personality that always made sense to me is simply the way his ego is built from experiences; He is Amazing, He is The Best - and conversely Deku is the Worst: When he is then the 'Little Fish in a Big Pond', experiencing other amazing hero-aspirants, he loses his self-worth, he feels threatened, and when even Deku starts competing with him, closing in on him, his identity begins to crumble, and he lashes out violently (because that is his response pattern).
