In regards to your confusion about the characters in Blue Bird (and likely some later OPs as well), they are from filler arcs that were skipped. I would be shocked if you did recognize them.

Naruto Shippuden started began while i was in college, and i remember every time a new opening came out, i had to add it to my playlist, so i could listen to it till and from school :P 1 thing i remember from back then was ppl angry from the spoilers from the openings, so many ppl avoided watching the openings, but just listen to them til end of season :) Damn i am feeling old right now haha xD 38 this year. nothing beats op 1, 7 and 18, they are so good for the complete opposite reasons the episode with shikamaru focussing around asuma's funeral, and the scene where shikamaru plays shogi (chess) with his dad and slowly starts breaking down is still without a doubt my favourite naruto episode and maybe my favourite anime episode tied with some aot ones.

"Diver" (the opening where Naruto is sinking into the water) is my favorite opening for Naruto. It symbolizes his despair after the Raikage decided to go after Sasuke.

The really silly opening with all the dancing is a special case. Many people don't know what to make of it. But if you know the context behind it, it makes sense. The studio put out this opening in response to the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. They wanted an uplifting opening to bring some happiness to their fans in Japan during the aftermath. I suspect the song that came right after, which was still upbeat, was there for the same reason.

and now i'm crying, honestly Naruto has always been there in my darkest time's in life, started watching it back in 2007-6 when i randomly picked up the 1st dvd boxset, its why its my number 1 anime, will always hold a special place in my heart. rewatching your reactions let me relive it all.

That first opening always gets me nostalgic... i remember when it started airing and i was first year in university, no computer of my own. I was using the library computers to sail the high seas :D and watch Naruto (dont judge... back then it was the only way i could watch any media other that the national tv and some cable channels in my country) On a side note: I know this will never be voted in but if you have the time and want to you should check out some of the filler arcs... even if its on your own. You missed so much by skipping ANBU Kakashi arc... or even the second chunin exam arc. Theres also the "what if arc" which i (im probably the only one) find quite interesting. IDK why the fandom always votes to skip fillers

If I would make a guess about why you feel this way about Naruto and FMA:B specifically when compared to AoT or HxH, I would say it might be because of the character arcs and the way they not only affect the story, but are integral to it. AoT and HxH has good characters, don't get me wrong, but they remain *largely* very similar from the beginning to the end. In Naruto and FMA:B, the way the characters' change is often a driving force for the story, not to mention a primary source of drama and conflict. AoT and HxH in contract most commonly deal with outside threats that require the good guys to become stronger in order to beat, but rarely do they need to challenge their worldviews and make hard decisions based on them. Exceptions exist, and I'm sure some people might disagree with the sentiment altogether, but that's the best I can articulate the difference.

Opening 3 has characters from a filler arc. It basically gave more focus to Asuma before Hidan happens

In the opening, where everyone is trying to catch that glowing crystal, I always thought that it was a representation of memories. In the background, we see everyone's memories. And it also makes sense since Naruto is trying to catch it, and Sasuke is trying to destroy it.

Since I don't ever watch anime in sub (I have a bit of a reading disability), I was able to thoroughly enjoy your trip through the Naruto universe because 1) I have watched Naruto so much that I pretty well know the dialog by heart, and 2) your personality is why I stayed. Unfortunately, because I do not know many anime as well as I do Naruto, after you watch the Naruto movies, I will have to say my goodbyes. At least until I have watched an anime that you react to that I have seen enough times, so that I will feel confident that I could follow along in sub. I will be here for the Naruto movies, Naruto endings if you do them, and for Boruto when you do it, since I have seen it enough times to be able to enjoy it in sub.

The gem that everyone tries to get is their dream/goal. Naruto is to be acknowledged/hokage and you see how hard he tries to reach it throughout his life. In the end he learns he has already fulfilled his dream and that is why it feels like the dream is just slowly falling into is palm. Sasuke is to kill his brother, he does this while being afraid trying to keep his distance until he is strong enough. him cutting it is that he kills his brother but learns that it was his brother's wish to do so and is left with a new narrow harsh goal afterwards. Madara does not know he is being strung along and that his dream is in reality Kaguya's dream/goal.

My favorite moment was when Naruto met Minato. At the end of all of that what happened before: Hinata, Village, Pain, Jiraya ... and there he was watching over his son. Even after he's gone still making sure he have a chance. Kushina after it was just a bonus. My most favorite eposodes are when Minato and Kushina pretected Naruto as a baby where Kushina talked to him what to do and not when he grows up when she is no longer there. I broken down when I first watched it. That was my favorite Kushina moment. For me that is why I love pain arc. War and sasuke could be side character for what I care to be honest. What is Naruto for me is his dark past, his solitude, his recognition in peoples eyes and his friends around him.

Blue birds in animes are often associated with birds in cages/captivity seeking freedom or freeing themselves from their cage. Basically a symbol for rebellion or force forth your own path for the future you wish for.

Fun Fact: The silly openings where they're all happy and dancing when their at that dire moment of the war happened because it was around the time a bit earthquake and tsunami hit Japan and they asked the animators to make goofy happy openings to cheer up their spirits...

To me, the beginning of the War arc was actually bit too fast in that the zombies were going down too quickly in a way that was clearly just to expedite the story. Some, like Kimmimaro, Chiyo, and Suigetsu's brother, didn't even really get to do anything. They also set up Kakashi using all his copied ninjutsu and wielding Zabuza's sword only to completely offscreen it.

Hey Luke. I'm with you here. Sign is incredible, one of my favorite openings ever. If not my all time n°1 And everytime i see it... The feels hit T.T The following opening as well hits me everytime, and I agree with you, ever since we started itachi's and pain arcs it was nonstop good moments. And I've heard your feeling on MHA reactions about how it's a shame people don't like to recommend long anime since it would block a spot for this one alone, even tho it allows so much build up for good moments... and seeing how you liked Naruto, and think it's such a big part of your life... I can only agree ! And I could agree with them a few years back since you saw only a few animes and commiting to a huge one was a risk and a shame since you wouldn't discover others... But now you've long been ready for that For me, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and many others are HUGE. The first two were with me for something like 15 years of my life. They still are, with Boruto and The last arc of Bleach's anime in a sense One piece is neverending so of course it's still there as well... And on top of that it was my very first manga, which helped me thro so much stuff in life. It has its low moments, but soooo many peak ones, and I think it's better and better This feeling is present for most of the things I've read or watched that stood their ground years after years of weekly/monthly updates. I find this feeling incredible tbh, and I really hope you'll end up experiencing it as many times as possible. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, I really love it. I can't watch all of it of course (Naruto is one I didn't watch at all because i kinda did it too many times already and my time is limited now), but your reactions are awesome, and you have so much heart, i've never enjoyed watching someone on internet that much. I mean it Stay safe, I hope you'll be blessed by many new discoveries. I can't be sure of course, but I think you'll like One Piece. The anime is, imo, a huge downgrade compared to the manga. BUT ! It's still really good and mostly true for the latest parts of the anime. Before a certain event and arc, I was watching it weekly and enjoying it as much as the paper version ! This reaction is special to me because before Naruto, Luke used to react to anime openings mostly based on the music. After learning what good animation really looks like, he can now genuinely appreciate the visuals too. So this isn’t really a “revisited series” reaction it feels like a first-time reaction, because the Luke from back then and the Luke now are two completely different people when it comes to depth of appreciation.

29:10 in 2011 japan was hit by massive tsunami and many died and they decided to make a happy opening even tho it was a dark part in the story. It's the type of stuff you do not get to understand unless you were watching ongoing

Thank you for watching Naruto. It is a very special series full of emotional ups and downs, awesome battles, and really cool characters. For a while there was a lot of negative sentiment around Naruto that even had affected me, but being able to experience the story again along with you and the rest of your community has really given me a new appreciation for it. I don't know if you'll watch One Piece next but I have been a fan of it for over 20 years and when it ends I can't even imagine the feelings I will have. I hope you will be there to share those feelings too.

I think the little blue crystal everyone was trying to capture (except Sasuke) was the hopes for the future that those who have died left to the living. At the start of the opening we see everyone important who has died up to this point letting go of the crystal and letting it fall. It also explains why Sasuke did everything he could, and succeeded, to destroy it. While Naruto chased after it for ages in comparison. Meanwhile everyone else grabbed it immediately because they had parental figures who showed them their hope for the future all their lives.

If curious about the song Bluebird… AmaLee (English voice actress/singer) did an English version of it. In fact she did a ton of English versions of a lot of these. Blue Bird, Sign, Diver, Silhouette, Lovers, Distance, and many more. Listening to them (even if not recorded for us) would answer a lot of questions since you hear the actual lyrics. Watching Luke tripping and getting confused over characters he hadn't seen and forgetting he skipped the filler arcs (shame because they were actually good. At least imo. People tend to hate the filler for stuff like this and bleach due to the placement of the filler and to cut space on the main story, and end up missing out on enjoying it entirely)

This was the same for me! I don't watch subs, but I've seen the show enough times to mostly be able to keep up with what was going on and Luke's reactions were just so genuinely enjoyable and engaging and a blast to watch.

The Strongest in Naruto is Itachi. He could’ve ended the entire war with his susano, because of its spirit weapons it’s instant sealing & damage in one. Pretty much soul trap on a sword. Itachi already ended the war with izanami, but he could’ve done with strength too. He had the mental fortitude to slaughter his clan for the greater good. He had the strength to face his younger brother & intentionally lose to him. He even gave Sasuke advice during that fight. Itachi pretended to be after his eyes, telling sasuke how to avoid blindness after he gains his new powers from killing his older brother. I consider Itachi to be the greatest hero of Naruto, just an unsung hero. I think the only person other than sasuke, that Itachi would lose too is Guy. If they were tryna kill each other, I think guy would win. Madara did declare him the strongest at taijutsu after all.

I mean, you know the context behind why it exists right? It happened after one of the biggest natural disasters to hit Japan in 2011, and the studio decided that they needed to release a fun, upbeat and "silly" opening to bring the nations spirits up. That is why that OP exists. It's fine if Its your "worst", but at least understand why it is so different and more "fun" than the others.

24:11 This is precisely why I don't like the Kaguya stuff. The story was all about this lonely boy who, against all odds, accomplishes all these amazing things and fights his way into other people's hearts. But then it turns out he's the reincarnation of Ashura and he was always destined to do that, which makes all that came before just completely lose it's weight. So in my own head canon, the Kaguya stuff never happened. Naruto and Sasuke defeat Madara, have their final fight and they live happily ever after xD

The only time I hated filler was when we were in the final battle, Naruto and Sasuke's hearts had stopped and then the next episode was a chuunin exam from before Shippuuden started. I was so mad.

That story follows two children, Tyltyl and Mytyl, who go on a magical quest searching for the Blue Bird of Happiness. The popular reading is that, when they return home and find the bird there, the moral is “happiness was at home all along.” But that cuts off the story a bit early. The bird later flies away, which complicates the message: happiness is not something you permanently possess. It is fleeting, something you may find, lose, and keep searching for. For the Naruto Shippuuden OP, I think the emphasis is less on “home was the answer” and more on the hunt itself: the desire to reach happiness, freedom, or a future beyond pain. It is about chasing the blue bird, not calmly sitting at home with it in a cage.
