OMG just yesterday I suggest you to react to this movie..glad you like it♥️🙏

Kaden P

One of my FAVORITE MOVES, I can't wait to see your reaction!!! There can be miracles if you believe❤️❤️

Emanuel dos Anjos

Wow, I just suggested spirit last week on twitch and said something about prince of Egypt, and it was the one to come first haha

Krawbs

I've never seen this movie either so glad to finally check it out.

Shaunie Girl

This isn't Disney. It's DreamWorks. It's co-owned by Jeffrey Katzenberg who used to work with Michael Eisner the former CEO of Disney. The animation for the time is unreal.....

Pcdruid

I strongly suggest you watch The Emperor's New Groove.

Tyler Rimmel

Kids movies in the 90s were built different. Some of the best ever made.

Valde

I’m so happy you reacted to this 🙏🏻

M3rlin

I'm sooo excited! (Also, not disney, but I'm sure you will find that out)

M3rlin

Oooh, I have watched a troll in cetral park! Saw it when I was little, also, "all dogs go to heaven" a must watch!

shlomit5577

The Jewish people have a holiday called passover the tall the story of the Jewish people freed frome Egypt and from slaveryevery Jewish kid learn this story and one of the traditions of the holiday is to tall the story and never forget it.

Faen_Galan

So fun fact for you Luke. Animators that fell behind or struggled on The Prince of Egypt animation were sent as punishment to go work on Shrek

NikoCat11

Prince of Egypt, that insane Disney classic that is not from Disney.

Emily Jewett

Road to eldorado is a good dreamworks one

Nate Ming

HELL YEAH what a gorgeous movie I have the artbook from this one, and I kept all the sticky-note bookmarks I placed there when I was in art school

Luminesca

This is such a brilliant film. Took a few years for them to animated the parting of the sea. Prince of Egypt is dreamworks not Disney x Aaron is Jeff goldblum. 😀

Rime_Draws

The man with the multicolored jacket was Joseph. There actually a movie for him a well that's pretty good. I'm not sure if it was also done by DreamWorks. It's called Joseph King of dreams and I do very much recommend it. I like it. Even though I am not religious anymore and I was never Christian, this is my favorite movie, the soundtrack is glorious and the story is so well done. The river lullaby is almost constantly stuck in my head. I'm so glad you reacted to this

jaaaaayt

1:11:17 yes they’re tryna prove that if they can do what Moses can do then their god is just as mighty as Moses God

DRACO

Oh my God what a film I watched with you Luke. I was the one wanting Prince of Egypt instead of Rocky Horror Picture last week on your YouTube Community Post. Finally I've watched it along with you man!

Gianna

This is probably the only religious movie I can stand to watch, not that I’m an atheist. It’s just that religion itself and God never really resonated with me honestly. And I understand that feeling of not knowing what to think about the whole Bible or God thing. When I was a kid, I didn't question it much, since "it’s something you’re supposed to believe in," and trying to force myself to care only made me feel more indifferent about it. Especially the way things are these days with people who use teachings, supposedly about empathy and love, against others they believe do not deserve itI just can't stand it. But seeing this film, so beautifully crafted and treated with such respect, makes me emotional. The music is an absolute 10/10, the traditional animation is incredible for the time, and the development of Moses and Ramses in the finale is so tragic. It blows my mind to think I watched this as a child; there are so many intense elements in the plot that I didn't even pick up on back then. 😅 Great reaction! I hope you get to watch Treasure Planet soon. ✨

Juho Kaartoaho

I don't think that there is anything controversial or "wrong" about the stuff Luke mentioned. I would say that here as sometimes before it has shown that he is unable to really insert himself into the world and see it in the way that the world has set rules they live by and deem normal. This was first time for me to see that even Luke himself noticed it. Again I want to emphasize that there is nothing wrong about what Luke is saying for current times. Who knows, in the future values could do complete 180 because of some global catastrophe and Lukes views could be seen as naive/wrong. Lot of views have already changed a lot in the last couple of decades so who knows what people think after millennia or two.

Nikkelz

sadly hes seen treasure planet

Jroyce93

Great reaction Luke glad you liked it. If you are curious about other Christian media, I'd recommend you check out a series called The Chosen. It's recent and very well made and tells the story of Jesus and his disciples.

Gianna

Seriously?? Did he mention it? Man, I want to think he didn't 😭

Sébastien Montibert

Just about the origin of this story, it's from the Old Testament, historians never could find a trace of Moses or the massacre of babies. It's just part of the Bible and a matter of belief. However, to me, the "They were only slaves" is a fair representation of dehumanization that a lot of people, through various contexts and times, felt. It's not a matter of people being monsters, it's a matter of people rationalizing the unbearable to be able to live with it. If there is slaves and their lives are less worthy, then it's not that much a problem killing some. This goes for a lot of situations, and I won't politicize more to avoid troubling your chat as you requested. And yes, this movie is very good.

Shellyse Bell

So glad you reacted to this! The multi-colored jacket that you mentioned was actually from a different story in the bible about Joseph. And DreamWorks actually made an animated film about that one as well. It's an amazing watch. I put it equal to this one. It's called Joseph: King of Dreams. I recommend it.

GreekReactsGR

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Sinbad and eldorado should be next to watch all dream work classics

Lisbe Coetzee

I saw this movie for the first time when I was 6 years old. I might not have understood all the brutalities, but the impact it had on me was immense and lifelong. I can say this... religion is a lifelong pursuit and we all doubt, no matter the belief system or religion. It is quite accurate, and believe it or not... A LOT of the brutality within the bible was softened for this movie. The guard that Moses killed was not an accident. He killed the guard intentionally by hitting him. I am so thrilled you experienced this movie!! Thank you for your respect towards this story and other people.

The Nerdy Tiger

Notice how when the plague takes all the first borns it is portrayed as a peaceful breath in comparison to the brutal feeding of babies to crocodiles. Not saying any child dying is right but the comparison is important

IBG_Music

I watched this so many times as a kid, but I didn't truly realize how dark it was until a got a bit older. It is one of mys favorite movies of all time and yes, it is incredibly dark.

CosmicRaven

Fact about the 10 plagues, they were sent to target the certain Egyptian gods. 1. Water to Blood (Exodus 7:14–25) Targeted gods: Hapi (god of the Nile), Isis (goddess of the Nile), and Khnum (guardian of the Nile). Meaning: The life-giving river revered as a god was turned into foul, undrinkable blood. 2. Frogs (Exodus 8:1–15) Targeted god: Heket (the frog-headed goddess of fertility and rebirth). Meaning: Frogs were sacred, but an uncontrollable swarm turned a symbol of fertility into an overwhelming torment. 3. Lice / Gnats (Exodus 8:16–19) Targeted god: Geb (the earth god). Meaning: The dust of the earth itself became a plague, showing God's command over the physical terrain. 4. Flies (Exodus 8:20–32) Targeted god: Khepri (the god of creation and renewal, often depicted as a scarab beetle) or Shu (god of air). Meaning: Swarms filled the air and homes, dismantling the peace associated with local deities. 5. Livestock Pestilence (Exodus 9:1–7) Targeted gods: Hathor (the cow goddess of love and protection) and Apis (the sacred bull god). Meaning: A disease wiped out the sacred animals central to Egyptian wealth and religious life. 6. Boils (Exodus 9:8–12) Targeted gods: Sekhmet (goddess of healing and plague), Isis, and Imhotep (god of medicine). Meaning: Painful sores afflicted the people, proving Egypt's medical and healing deities powerless. 7. Hail and Fire (Exodus 9:13–35) Targeted gods: Nut (sky goddess), Seth (storm god), and Osiris (crop fertility god). Meaning: Destructive weather from the sky wrecked the harvest, defying the gods who controlled nature and agriculture. 8. Locusts (Exodus 10:1–20) Targeted gods: Nut and Osiris (guardians of crops and the harvest). Meaning: Whatever hail left behind was devoured, completely stripping Egypt's food supply. 9. Darkness (Exodus 10:21–29) Targeted god: Ra (the supreme sun god). Meaning: Three days of thick darkness humiliated Ra, the most vital and powerful god in the Egyptian pantheon. 10. Death of the Firstborn (Exodus 11–12) Targeted Subject: Pharaoh himself (believed to be the living embodiment of Ra/Horus) and Isis. Meaning: The ultimate judgment showed that life and death rest solely with God, rendering the royal lineage and protector deities helpless.

Nate Ming

Also definitely watch this with the kids *when they're older*

Luminesca

Multi coloured jacket is about Joseph if I remember right. Moses brought the commandments down from the mountain. Dreamworks also done a animated film of Joseph

The Nerdy Tiger

1:57:59 thise 3 exerts are from 3 different religious scriptures: Hebrew, Christian and jew

Emily Jewett

That would be a good light hearted one

Shaunie Girl

And I'm still really REALLY hoping for The Hunchback of Notre Dame.... so glad you liked this

Ara Araragi

1:50:23 Casting Jeff Goldblum as Aaron and NOT having him say "Must go faster! Must go faster!" as the soldiers approached was such a wasted opportunity. We could've had the Jurassic Park / Independence Day / Prince of Egypt trifecta! 😂

Richard Björkman

They genuinely called it getting "Shrekd" as well. Absolute banger lore. And then Shrek outgrossed Prince of Egypt by like $180m 🤣

Usagi

Joseph and the Dreamcoat next! Also amazing

Camilla Liljedal

What you talked about at the end hit a little core in me, because I feel the exact same way. Just that comfort people believing in a religion must have. Also jealous, you're not alone there. This movie is beautiful. I've watched it more times than I can count, and I cry Every.Single.Time almost all through it.

The Battle Frontier - Pokemon Podcast

I don't know how versed you are in the story of Moses so couple of tidbits as you watch along, sorry for the long comment: 1)Not mentioned in the movie #!: There's no mention of Raamses in the original story, the only thing with that name was one of the cities the hebrew slaves built. 2)In the original story The woman that you saw adopting Moses is the Pharaoh's daughter, she recognized that he was a Hebrew baby but immediately looked upon him with pity and decided to save him from her father's cruel decree to kill all newborn Hebrew boys. I'm not sure why they changed her to be his wife. 3)Not mentioned in the movie #2: Moses' sister, Miriam, who was watching nearby, stepped forward and offered to fetch a Hebrew nurse. The princess agreed, which allowed Moses' own biological mother, Jochebed, to nurse and care for him during his early years while being paid by the royal court. Once Moses was older, his mother brought him back to the palace, where the princess formally adopted him as her son and named him Moses, meaning "drawn out of the water". 4)Not mentioned in the movie #3: due a test the Pharaoh made him go through when he was baby, Moses wasn't able to speak properly and his brother Aaron did the talking for him when he approaced the Pharaoh in order to ask him to release his people. Fun fact: they hired an actual Israeli female singer named Ofra Haza" to dub Moses's mom which is why the first few words she sing in the openning song are in hebrew meaning "my good and soft child, don't worry and have no fear", also the word "elohim" which you heard during the openning song means god in hebrew.

KeanuofRivia

I've always felt this movie was intended to give perspective. Perspective on the true degree of suffering people have experienced throughout history.

Emily Jewett

Luke same, I grew up going to church, I appreciate the history and the stories, but I don’t have that soul deep belief. And I’m open to the possibility of more I just don’t feel it right now.

Matthew Harms

Out of all the tales of Exodus about Moses; this version has been one of my favorites. Definitely a darker take of it than most. Usually the tale tends to be watered down to try not to scare kids. Great reaction. Also not religious myself, but remember a few of the stories told during church Sunday school growing up.

Luminesca

Too true. I still remember films like Watership down as a kid

Leo23

I really love this movie and your reaction was so good! It kind of reminded me of "Joseph: king of dreams", also made by DreamWorks. I suggest you watch it, it's the adaptation of the story of Joseph from the Book of Genesis in the Bible. If I'm not wrong it should be the prequel of this film (The Prince of Egypt). It would make sense since in the Bible Joseph's story comes before Moses's one. Anyway I really suggest you to watch it :))

Luminesca

I believe in a higher power, although I wouldn't necessarily call it god.

Luminesca

Yeah its dreamworks

Luminesca

Correct me if im wrong but isnt Hebrew the same as Judaism? Judaism is the religion. Hebrew and Israelites are the language and people, right?

Arketh Adrcn

You are and have been in my prayers. I pray the LORD will call you into his arms.

The Nerdy Tiger

I'm unsure but they were quotes from 3 different scriptures

Nika

Not believing in anything does in fact make you an atheist haha I think you might be thinking about something like anti-theist

yANIS j zz Moulai

Interesting moment when the movie stop lol if you know you know

KeanuofRivia

Great reaction my guy! Really glad you felt so connected to this movie! Adventures of Sinbad next? 😉

RoxyLoserlesbian

There's something about how. Even as evil as the pharaoh was. He legitimately seemed to love Moses despite him obviously being the biological child of a slave Also the queen who loved him at first sight

Tsubasa Li

I recommend watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Joseph The King of Dreams

aleayarae_9794

Have you seen Meet the Robinsons?? An amazing movie!!

BGTitan

I watched this movie with my dad a lot when I was a kid. I love this movie so much. What I like also is that regardless of religion affiliation anyone can love this movie because it's just a good movie. It's not overly preachy, the animation and writing obviously had a lot of care put into it. You can have fun scenes like the chariot race or Through Heaven's Eyes but then you also have the opening song sequence of Deliver Us and a line like "Oh, my son, they were only slaves." Not entirely flawless but most of the time this movie juggles the two tones exceedingly well. I also just love the animation. Some of the shots in this movie are stunning. The scenes in the throne room where you can see the statues in the back? Gorgeous. I also just love that they made the central relationship between Ramses and Moses. Don't get me wrong, Ramses is the villain, full stop, no debate. But I love that it's not this one dimensional thing. We see why he's so stubborn about this (tradition and not wanting to be the 'weak link') but that doesn't excuse anything he's doing. And obviously you side and feel for Moses because his goal was never for Ramses to suffer, but Ramses own pride and stubbornness got so many kids and Moses' nephew killed. That moment after God's spirit goes back up and you can just hear the crying as people realize their children are dead, and after Ramses gives permission for the Hebrews to go where Moses weeps as well because this was never what he wanted. Small things but they add so much weight to this. Moses humiliated Tzepporah and laughed about it, and one time of distracting the guards does not make up for that. Also her payback was basically the same, she dropped him in. the water. It's not that she escalated anything. And at this point she also doesn't know that he is no longer an arrogant prince. It's not until she hears him admit that he's done nothing worth honoring that she sees any kind of change. The priests use slight of hand. They switched out the sticks they were holding with snakes during the big flash. Everything they do is basically a magic trick.

Ara Araragi

It's meant to show that Moses was a celebrated figure among the scriptures of all three of the Abrahamic religions: Judaism: the Tanakh (or Hebrew Bible) Christianity: the New Testament of the Bible Islam: the Qur'an

Brayden Seipel

Amazing reaction Luke! Praying that you and your family do find peace. Keep up the awesome work!

Tico Machi

Another really great Dreamworks 2D animated film is the Road to Eldorado. I hope you check it out one day.

Julie Lyles

This is one of the first movies I saw in the theaters. I remember being mesmerized by how beautiful everything was.

Luna

Great reaction Luke 👏🏽! The Old Testament was filled with some pretty brutal stories but us catholic kids heard all of them in school while growing up, no shying away from death for us lol. & for context, Pharaoh Seti ordered the killing of newborn Hebrew baby boys to stop the growing Israelite population from rebelling or joining Egypt's enemies. Also, please consider reacting to these other amazingly fun animations : • 2003 : Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas • 2000 : The Road to El Dorado • 2000 : Titan A.E. Or for an animation with a slightly darker tone : • 1982 : The Secret of NIMH • 1988 : The Land Before Time

S

This movie gets me emotional and always gets me thinking, making me remember my own faith because I tend to forget and get tangled up in worldly things and desires. It takes liberties of course but it's a piece of art. We as humans are flawed and sinful by nature. One thing I've been taught as a Christian myself (that many Christians actually don't know) is that human emotions and feelings are flawed; we think we need to always "feel" in order to believe or to do something . The fact that you are thinking of believing in something is a sign; a sign that you might one day come to believe. It's all in God's perfect timing. God bless. Enjoyed your analysis and thoughts on this film 🙏

BITBOI

as a Christian i respect the heck out of this movie for taking Gods words straight from the Bible in the burning bush scene as for a movie embellishment for filling in relational gaps is fine but putting word in the mouth of God is blasphemy

Damian

(Before reacting) Didn't know Luke was going to react to this amazing masterpiece. I loved this movie when I was a child and I love this movie just as much now. I can't wait to see what he thinks about it.

A Guy

A part of it is pride, but a big reason as to why Ramses hardened his heart and refused the request was because he refused to be the weakest link in his heritage’s chain of rulers. It was evident that when he was younger, he had a complex in regards to his father‘s expectations that was alleviated by Moses, but without him over the years, he fell back onto a lot of insecurities.

BITBOI

something to note of the death of the firstborn it was not as the others that it only afflicted the Egyptians rather with the blood of the lamb it gave the Egyptians a chance to save themselves and punished the Hebrews who did not obey God Edit: also its a misconception that the death of the first born only killed children but it was of all the firstborn meaning adults who were firtborn

BITBOI

I've left two comments already but since Luke asked. It is widely agreed that many Egyptians left with the Hebrews because after all the wonders and power that God had shown that many would switch to belief in Him

BITBOI

a Million comments later but this one is important and take it or leave it but as a genuine piece of advice from someone who is a Christian, but if you truly want to believe something all I can say is give reading the Bible a shot ask God to reveal himself its a fantastic place to start that's the advice i can give

Faith M

I second this!

Siru

I also second the people who suggested the movie Joseph:king of dreams as well as the movie Spirit: stallion of the cimarron

Faith M

I loved your raw and sincere reaction to this. I’ve watched several reactors watch this video and I’m always impressed by the perspective and commentary different people add to it. I’m Christian and have been in church since birth so the stories are not new at all, but hearing your emotion about Ramses’s pride and pointing out how sometimes a person in power makes it worse for everyone else. The way you pointed out how he was given so many chances.. yeah all of that just really hit me. Thank you for this reaction. I’m so glad I subscribe to your channel. It feels like coming home

Cyrill Attakpah

so so .. the "FULL MOVE" reaction xD haha

10redturtles -

Being blown away by this movie is an actual genuine reaction.

Jasmine

You should react to Joseph King of Dreams as well

Damian

(After watching Luke's reaction) If my memory serves me correctly I saw this movie for the first time when I was maybe 6 years old. As a kid, I know I didn't understand the full context for the movie, but the visuals really did help a lot. As I grew up and also learned and grew in my religion that I believe. As for the specific branch, I don't know, I just always considered myself as a Christian. I always loved the story of Joseph and Moses. I would love to see your reaction to the other movie that DreamWorks also made. Joseph: King of Dreams. I seen anoher comment mention the dramatic series, The Chosen. I do second this as well. One series I've also watced, I don't know if there is an english dubbed, maybe subtitled is, Jose De Egipto (apperantly made in Brazil, so the original would be Portuguese. I watched it in Spanish) It's the dramatic series following the story of Joseph. I've watched it many times with my parents. Also I always swear there's another movie that follows what happens after they cross The Red Sea. My brother always calls me crazy but I swear I remember seeing as a kid. I wouldn´t forget seeing Moses getting angry at his brother Aaron and throwing the commandments to the ground where they lifted up an altar of the golden calf. I still to this day am trying to find that. Other than my long rambling, I enjoyed your reaction to this movie. The is no part of the reaction where I felt that you were being disrecpecful to anyone or anything. So don't worry about that, you're fine. Again I would love to see your reaction to Joseph: King of Dreams animated from DreamWorks.

Robert Dirk H.

I add The Hunchback of Notre-Dame to the recommendation list!

Shellyse Bell

It would be so epic if he reacted to The Chosen😭

Rae

This was such a surprise! SO happy you reacted to this! Such a great movie!

Leah B

No need to apologize Luke. It’s okay to not remember or know these stories. Thank you for reacting.

Leah B

In the snake scene, God’s snake ate the two Egyptian snakes. God’s last plague was chosen by Pharaoh himself. His threat for the firstborns to die and is what happened to the Egyptians. One thing I wished this movie showed about the firstborn sons dying at the end was that it wasn’t just children. You could be of any age and be your family’s firstborn son.

Leah B

To answer your question about Pharaoh’s stubbornness, God was showing that He is the One true God and those are His people, so God hardened Pharaoh’s heart.

mate mzhavanadze

You gotta react to Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame

mate mzhavanadze

You see how God introduces himself as "I AM THAT I AM," and he tells Moses to tell the Israelites that "I AM" has sent you. It is supposed to reflect the timelessness of God and his eternal nature. Well, in the New Testament, when people mock Jesus for claiming he knows Abraham, who lived generations before, Jesus says, "Truly, I tell you, before Abraham was born, I AM." I am an atheist, but this line, I think, is very cool. And the crowd understands what Jesus is saying. He is saying he is "I AM." He is God. And they start stoning him. Which is evidence that this is no coincidence. The crowd stones him for a reason. They think the statement is blasphemous. The bible is the original Lord Of The Rings after all. If not anything it's simply an amazing story.

mate mzhavanadze

This is a great movie but one thing tho, this movies depiction of slavery in Egypt is a bit wrong. The slaves didn't build the pyramids. Egyptian workers did as in paid citizens. Slaves were not lashed and they weren't trusted with important jobs like this. Usually their purpose was to maintain a house or a garden. Also the pyramids were built thousands of years before Moses.

Evan

I think I was where you are with God, Luke until I was 18 I got really drunk, passed out in my friends basement and ended up puking in my sleep. I wasn't able to text or call anyone for help and no one was able to track my phone, the only people who knew where I was were my friend and his grandparents. I come to and I'm being walked up the basement steps by EMTs because my Mom found me and called 911, she told me God told her that I needed help and somehow found the right house based off me telling her a vague location of where his grandparents lived in the past. I could've choked on my puke in my sleep and died but God saved me and that miracle opened my eyes and heart a lot more to it all than before, God knew where I was and he knows where you are too Luke

Jacowab

a fairly overlooked part of the story (and not shown here) is that Pharaoh was actually ready to give up pretty quickly, but god hardened his heart and forced him to keep denying Mosses because the miracles are less to intimate the Egyptians and more to show the Hebrews gods power, even after what this films shows the Hebrew are still doubting gods power and he forces them to stay in the desert for like 40 years until new generations that are absolutely devote can lead them into Israel.

mate mzhavanadze

My mother read me the story of Moses when I was like 3 or 4 years old, and do you know what I focused on? So when the mom puts Moses in the basket, she seals the basket with, like, tree sap, and in my native language, tree sap and piss have the same word like it's one word and it can mean both sap and piss, and 4-year-old me was horrified that the mom put piss in the basket with the baby. I was more horrified about that than the part about the slaughtering of the newborns.

mate mzhavanadze

She threw him back in the well, not because she hated him, but it was a playful payback for Moses causing her to fall into the water back in Egypt

Jamal Laughinghouse

I love this movie too, but there are some creative liberties this movie took, a couple I can name off the top of my head: - King Ramsas III did exist, but he was not in the book of Exodus or in the Bible at all, in the Bible the Pharaoh was not a named. Now as far as I have understood, Pharaoh and Moses had no relationship, as the brother that Moses was close to in Egypt, his fate was undisclosed. Also because the movie doesn't really say, when Moses killed that guard and ran (Also for killing the guard, it was the current Pharaoh that wanted Moses dead, but the movie basically made it seem like his brother let him go.) , the Bible says in the book of Acts that Moses was in Midian for 40 years before the Lord called him. By this time, The Pharaoh was dead and someone new was on the throne that Moses did not know. -Even though the movie showed that Zipporah was with Moses when he went to see the Pharaoh, when Moses was called to be a prophet, it was his brother Aaron who was his Assistant, So Aaron was with him throughout the entirety of all Moses task God had given him. -Zipporah and Moses had children before Moses went to free the Israelies. - Pharaoh in the Bible consistently said during every plague God sent that if Moses told God to lift it, he would free God's people Israel, but Pharaoh hardened his heart every time after, leading to a new plague, however, during the 6th plague, God actually hardened Pharaoh's heart, and made him just as stubborn as he already was. Those are the ones that I can definitely name for now, if any other ones come to mind I will let you know. Now that being said from a Christian to you my friend: Mr Luke, I know that feeling your talking about all to well. In fact that indeed is why I was an atheist for so many years. I grew up in a religious household myself, and I was so tired of this thing I didn't understand just being shoved down my throat because my family said I had to ... But truely I say, as I wish my parents would have told me as a kid, God makes no sense to anyone, unless you choose him personally. Jesus is a personal choice, a personal relationship, a personal Saviour; he isn't traditional, he isn't cultural, and he isn't religion, I believe he is God, and he proved that to me one day in my meekness. The Bible says, for children, the Kingdom of God is their's, and that we must come to him just like children, innocent, with a willingness to learn, and obedient. The Bible says that you and I are sinners, and we are born into a world of sin because our ancestors Adam and Eve's actions, and Sin has separated us from a Holy and Righteous God, But you and I my friend are blessed, because Jesus paid the fine we could not pay on the cross by living a sinless life, he bleed out and died on that cross and then rose from the dead on the 3rd day, defeating sin and death for all of us, all you and I have to do is this: if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart he was risen from the dead, you will have the free gift of Salvation, and receive God's Holy Spirit, but it has to be a personal choice from you, for without choice there is no love, and Jesus loves us all. Now 9 times out of 10 you probably heard some random person tell you that and your like eh whatever, but how about this instead... Not for your wife or your kids, but just you, Jesus says come as you are, problems and all; make that declaration of faith in prayer to the Lord, believing on his death and resurrection, and asking for forgiveness for all your Sins, and then after just pick up a Bible and read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and try to attempt to apply those changes to your life. If when you've done this and you feel no changes or anything spiritual, just stop and go back to what you used to do, but if you feel his presence around you, and you feel changed, then race to the finishline, because the holy Spirit will be making the choices for you, you'll feel it. But of course this is only me telling you my experience of one who ran away from it for so many years and felt nothing of it, making fun of it even, and how it can change your life, for I believe now Jesus is True. I'm sure this isn't what you'd want to read, or maybe of course this message might reach you, maybe it might not, but I hope it reached someone, and I very thankful that you watched a movie like that, and even your thoughts you gave, they were beautiful. I know this was a long message but I've watched your videos for years, and you've always been so cool Mr. Luke. God bless you and I hope you continue to thrive in your journey 😊

Amarjit Ubhi

You just brought back years of trauma lol

Keda

Same company as shrek is indeed right they were made around the same time and dreamworks artists said that if you misbehaved while on the prince of egypt team youd be sent to the shrek team as punishment

Metis Rose

We actually watched this in my Old Testament class after reading it in Exodus and we were supposed to write down anything accurate, inaccurate, and artistic license. The list of inaccuracies was extremely small and the artistic license list was very long lol, so overall still quite accurate

Paige waters

Literally my favorite movie!!💕

Finelia Braun

The movie teaches one beautiful lesson: God is cruel. If he is that mighty, he surely could have solved this more peacefully.

Shy

Has he said whether or not if he seen Project Hail Mary? ‘Cause that would be such an awesome one for him to check out! 😄

Adriana Flores

I really love your reaction and your comment on the movie and the theme where nice if you loved this movie and the message watch JOSEPH THE KING OF DREAMS it is also from the Bible and incredible movie too

Adriana Flores

I thought the same thing I’m also Christian and because I grew up with this stories watching someone who doesn’t know the story and Luke seeing the prospective of Ramses and Moses was really pointed out things that was so honest and hurt to acknowledge

Faith M

Since I’ve read and heard the story so many times seeing someone else’s perspective on it is refreshing. Sometimes people see things you might have missed and you see things they’ve missed. But yeah, I’m glad Luke reacted to this and I hope some day he finds God. There’s a yearning for him to find something to believe in like his grandma did. I hope he has that revelation

Rin Katsu

I love this movie! My grandmother would play this and Joseph: prince of dreams on for me and my sis every Saturday. Rewatching now that I’m older has given me so much more appreciation for it.

Nikkelz

He has seen it

2026-09-21 13:00 As a non-believer, I strangely still love this movie. I look at it much like I view other works of pure fiction: just as its presented, as a story. This is also one of the last few musical movies that I tolerate. I generally can't stand musicals. But this movie has some absolute bangers!

He cast down all these plagues, and Pharaoh wanted to concede, but God pretty much manipulated him into not conceding, because God is a wrathful God, and he wanted to have all the plagues punish Egypt. (I'm sure I have some context missing or out of sorts, someone can correct me but again I dont want this to turn into a religious discussion)

Darn. Thanks for the answer!

A Troll in Central Park was literally my childhood. I've never met anyone else who's seen it! Geez, that brought up so many memories. Thanks for another great reaction, by the way, I always enjoy watching you. Also, since you seemed interested in the story of Joseph. I would check out the musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Donny Osmond.

My World

I remember watching this movie as a child but seeing it again has been an entirely new experience. I see now how disturbing it must have been even though I didn't remember it quite so heavy on certain topics. Nevertheless, the movie is beautifully made, the music is fantastic and the teachings are incredible. Thank you for reacting to this movie. I enjoy your reactions so much. They keeo me company when I'm feeling lonely. Also, I saw someone suggest you watch Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. If you do, you won't regret it. It's a beautiful movie with amazing music. I don't remember if it's Disney or Dreamworks. It's totally worth it! Anyway, I hope you're having a great day and thank you for making our days great ❤️

I'm not really religious but Prince of Egypt is always a masterpiece ✨️

BlueMinotaur

So, context for this era. The word slave actually has a different connotation than now. Think more, indentured servitude, as in they get paid for serving their master. Another important thing about slavery during this time was that it wasn’t based on skin color or race/ tribe of people (at least that’s the norm. Egypt kind of did a nasty all things considered). During this time many people entered into slavery purposely as they would be taken care of by their master. Food, shelter, a job with pay. (Again, just context. Not trying to justify or promote anything)

Amy Roberts

Ramses: AHHHH Luke: Idk after a FIRE TORNADO you might wanna turn around Moses: WHOOSH Luke: Can you imagine being a fish in this scenario? Ramses: AHHHH Luke: ...this feels like a trap

RandomTitanGuy

I'm not sure if it is mentions already (I'm 2 days late and there are alot of comments already) but there are another DreamWorks films "Sinbad" and "The Road to El Dorado" That are HIGHLY recommended.

SoaringJe

Don't know if it's been mentioned already, but Stephen Schwartz kind of got himself ex-communicated by Disney because he took on this project, and didn't 'stay loyal' to the Mouse.

the josep one is really good too.

2026-09-23 19:00 2:00 Yeah I've seen "Troll in Central Park". The guy who voices the MC is in quite a few cartoons such as the owner of the dogs in Oliver & Company. He was also the other dog with short legs hanging around the MC dog in "All Dogs go to Heaven" Kinda cool that we're getting more and more physical and scientific proof of the Biblical stories like the chariots in the very same sea that was parted, as well as Noah's ark. There's also signs of global-scale like floods in the deserts if you look at the swirl patterns from the satellite

So Moses comes from the "Mosis" from Tut-mosis" as he is not Egyptian blood, but since he was a prince, he was given the name Mosis instead. 27:00 Recall the scene when Moses was sewing a bag as a prank on the high priests, he was whistling a tune that he recalled his mom sang to him as a baby. 30:00 Here is amoral lesson to you Luke: Being nice is not the same as being good or a good person. 33:00 Sorry buttercup but some humans and cultures are better than others. The fact you can say "no slavery" culture is better is proof of it.

the use of computer and 3d in animations was pretty new when this was made. it was revolitionary and so amasing to watch. what i think this movie shows so well that missing from the story int he bible is the fact that they were brothers. the emotion and conflict is shown so well.

Lai

ohhhhh the quites at the end was genius. its the old testement (jews) new testiment (christians) and the quran (islam) its a story all three religions share. it bridges all three. : )

Raine Kuch

I felt that when you said "I don't believe anything but I wish I did." I'm not sure if this will be helpful to you, but for me, I don't consider myself religious either, but "belief" for me just comes from all the things in the world that we cant explain. I think there is a lot I don't understand about this world, and I have hope that all those things mean we are in a world that is more mysterious and magical than we know.

NikiBelle

Joseph: King of Dreams - its another film by the same studio that covers the other story you kept bringing up and is also incredible and much less dark! There is also a full musical - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - that stars Donny Osmond that's fantastic of that story as well. This one though, is absolutely incredible and was made at the same time, in the same studio, as Shrek - in fact, if you weren't doing too well on this, they sent you to Shrek as punishment because they didn't believe Shrek would do nearly as well... it then went on to out perform this film. Animators even got to the point where those on Shrek were having so much fun that those who weren't were intentionally trying to be punished and sent there.

Shadow_284

Wow, I completely forgot Patrick Stewart was in this movie.

ChinchillaCrystal

I don’t see it addressed here and I’m still watching, but the reason the Pharaoh wanted all the male Hebrew children killed was so they couldn’t grow up in large numbers to rebel against him. Edit: 30 seconds after I posted this, Pharaoh tells Joseph, just not in so many words. Btw, I am very impressed by the comments here. People are sharing about their beliefs or non-belief, but at least up to this point it’s all been very respectful.

Danni Jensen

There are basically only 2 inaccuracies in this amazing film. Moses had a terrible stutter and couldn't speak well, so he got his brother Aaron to speak on his behalf. When Moses was discovered by the Pharao's daughter, Miriam made a deal with her to have Moses's mother to be his wet-nurse until he grew to age and would be returned to the Pharao's house. (Edit was to add the 2nd inaccuracy)

Danni Jensen

(reply to Kaylee Smeaton) Judaism is the sect born from the Israeli house of Judah(which most Jews currently stem from) Hebrew is the name of the religion as a whole, so Jews(people of Judah) are Hebrew. Israel was the name of Jacob after an altercation with one of God's angels. This means that Jews are of the house of Judah the Son of Israel. Since the name of the land was named after Jacob's later name, Israelite is a nationality too.

Cassandra Kern

My kids and I thought you would really like Vivo on Netflix if you haven't seen that one yet. It's a musical with some fun songs!!

Shadow_284

“It’s so dark!” It’s a bible story, Luke. I’m not religious, and even I know the bible isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. 😆 But god, this movie really is gorgeous, isn’t it? The animation, the cinematography, every shot is stunning. It holds up amazingly even today, and I’d go so far as to say it looks *better* than some much more modern films. It’s a shame so many studios moved away from this type of animation, because it’s so beautiful.

Nakama Forever

I've never seen this before now. Excited to watch along

Andreas

Not every animated movie is necessarily a children’s movie. 🤷 Nonetheless, whomever they made this movie for, it is a brilliant work of art. Give the pro shot of the stage production a go. It was filmed during its London run. The reception was mixed, but I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Andreas

(I think it is available on Prime 🤔)

Jefocht

i respect you in many ways, but showing children what makes a "good person" isnt wrong. Children understand parts of this are wrong, but showing them someone standing up to the WRONG is great teaching moment as a parent.

Anisa Bills

“This movie is a little more dark and messed up than I expected”… it’s a bible story Luke 😂

PLEASE WATCH JOSEPH KING OF DREAMS, it’s another bible story of Joseph

JOSHUA A STERRETT

So, I am a person of faith, and I'm very familiar with the Exodus story. I absolutely love this film, and I don't know anyone religious who has an issue with it. There's a lot of theatrical and dramatic embelishment, of course, to make it an entertaining story (for example, Moses actually knew from the beginning that he was a Hebrew), but the core elements - the suffering of the Hebrews, the slaughter of the Hebrew infants, Moses being saved in a basket in the river, Moses being raised in Pharoh's household, him killing an Egyptian in defense of a slave, leaving Egypt and learning from the Priest of Midian, the Burning Bush where God told him to return to Egypt, the miracles Moses performed and the plagues God sent, the journey across the Red Sea and the drowning of Pharoh's soldiers - all of that is Biblical and all of it is treated with beautiful respect and due reverence. If people see this as a version of the true story of the deliverence of the children of Israel from Egypt and the beginning of their journey to the Promised Land, that's wonderful. If people see this as just an entertaining story, that's wonderful too; it has great messages - even discounting the religious ones - and fantastic music and art.

JOSHUA A STERRETT

On the attitudes towards slavery. It is an unfortunate truth that egalitarian ideals are relatively young in human history. I can only speak to my own country, but here in America, the attitude of "they're only slaves" was very much a pervasive attitude throughout the Civil War era (and beyond). And it wasn't a unique view in that era. For most of human history, most people have othered those who are not their tribe and seen them as lesser people. If they've seen them as people at all. This is by no means a defense of this attitude in any modern context. It is only to say that Ramses was not particularly attrocious for his dismissive attitude towards the Hebrews.

JOSHUA A STERRETT

I wouldn't call this "fact." First I've heard of it. It's an interesting interpretation, and I won't go so far as to say that you're completely wrong, but there isn't really any biblical support for this theory.

CosmicRaven

Its an interesting interpretation as to why God chose those specific plagues, if not to target their "gods".

Sarah

I really appreciate your perspective being free of religious bias! It’s how we all should be. Moses is a prophet in Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. We’re more alike than we are told by the media.

Sakura Minamino

Yeah, the Bible is pretty dark. And we learn this stuff as kids when you're Christian. As for why it was on the wall, you have to remember the Egyptians actually recorded their history. Would make sense it was on a wall to keep track of a pharoah's mandate.

The One and Only Angela L. Dawson

In Black is King Beyonce reenacted this on “The Other Side.” AND this is why in Black History Harriet Tubman was called Moses of our people.

Perewey

Watching this today and the voice of moses father by patrick stewart hits different.. great reaction

Sakura Minamino

So if you notice, the priests are magician, master of illusions. During the song "Playing with the Big Boys" you see mirrors, smoke and lighting tricks. When they produce the snakes they blind everyone. Basically, they are playing everyone. In the Bible, the priests did produce two snakes and moses's snake did eat both. Also you have to remember that Ramses thinks he's a god or mediator of the gods. Because that's what pharaohs were back then and Ramses is made to believe that. Moses in this movie believed it until he was told the truth in this movie too.

Perewey

Seeing luke genuinely shocked at how slaves were seen back then.. fun fact during the "colonization" of america the french would get slaves from africa (kidnap them basically because they werent slaves in africa.. they were regular people) ship them to haiti and have them work the sugar fields.. they would feed them soo poorly they died very quickly.. but it was cheaper to BUY ANOTHER SLAVE when that happened than to feed the slaves they already had properly. Think about that.. you wouldnt treat a dog that way.. but thats how humans treated each other not even 200 years ago

Alayna

A Troll in Central Park was a childhood favorite of mine! So rare to hear that someone else knows about it!

Sakura Minamino

Last thing. Throughout the movie, you can see Ramses just trapped by his father. We know Seti loved him, but Ramses never saw it because his father was always hard on him. You can see the statue of Seti overlooking him when he's being scolded, you can see Ramses sitting in his father's statue's lap both as a young man and as an adult, you can see the stone painting of Seti above him when he say's he'll kill the first born. Seti is the root of everything his son did because Seti said "a weak link can break the chain of a mighty dynasty". It basically sealed his son's fate because Ramses was so afraid of being the weak link.

Illiterate Mochi

I’m definitely not defending his actions, but I can understand why Moses started off with the attitude he had in the very beginning. When that’s how you’re raised and told to think, it can be hard to see anything differently. The paradigm shift he experienced when he realized who he really was forced him to reevaluate everything. I doubt he ever gave the slaves or their treatment a second thought until he was forced to. Also, having previously been religious, I can say, at least for me, I found this movie to be incredibly accurate and respectful. Also also, I’m glad the movie ended where it did because the rest of the story is a real bummer :/

Alayna

Please don't apologize for your reaction! This was exactly what those of us familiar with this film want to see! The surprise, the awe, the heartbreak, that's how this movie feels even if you're fully familiar with the story. I first saw it when I was 8 lmao it was definitely the roughest movie I'd seen up to that point! But I adored it anyway, had every song memorized lol. I'd seen Ten Commandments, a pretty old Hollywood rendition of this story, and didn't much care for it because it used an old-fashioned stage theater style of acting that felt very stiff and unrealistic to me, so I really loved how Prince of Egypt went out of its way to depict Rameses and Moses as brothers with a very close relationship and how that impacted the conflict between them. Moses weeping not just for all the Egyptian children, but his own nephew that he never had the chance to know always hits so hard. The characters all feel like real people, and that's a rarity when it comes to depictions of biblical stories. And while historically there's no evidence of any of this actually having happened, right down to the great monoliths of Ancient Egypt not having been built by slaves at all, but people who were paid handsomely for their work, this tale is still super valuable as a moral lesson about pride, ego, and justice. No doubt it was written with inspiration from much smaller-scale incidents that DID happen sometime, somewhere, and that's the kind of rationalization I have with religion in general. People just tend to take things too seriously, too literally, and it causes more problems than it solves. There's plenty scientific theories for things like souls and an afterlife in some form or other, after all. I like the one about souls being a form of energy we don't yet have the equipment to pick up on, which explains cases of brain death when nothing is physically wrong with the person. We're piloted by energy like the charge of a battery, so death is just what happens when we lose our connection to our bodies. But the law of thermodynamics means that energy doesn't vanish, it simply goes back to wherever it came from, some great pool or cloud of itself. Maybe it waits for a new body to be conceived, or maybe it just hangs out, free of all the mess that comes with physical bodies.

Super Stratton

Hey Luke, I loved your reaction to this movie. It's always been a favorite of mine and I love the way you understood it. This is one of the most detailed animated movies ever made. Some touches on the plagues and the movie itself. Science has confirmed the existence of historical records from Egypt of the plagues as well as archeological evidence, such as the burning sulfur raining from the sky and Egyptian war chariots dated to this time found at the bottom of the Red Sea. I have been a lifelong Christian and if I wanted you to know something from the bottom of my heart, I'd want you to know this. God does not act for us, He acts through us. If you hope to believe someday in the future, that someday may never come. It's like saying that I will get so many personal projects done on holiday and holiday comes and life has got me so down that I just rest and the projects never get done. If you wait until you're Nan's age to have religion, will your heart be ready? God is ready to accept you, all you have to do is reach out to him. Grab a bible, talk to a preacher, the glory of Christ is that we now have the ability to talk to God directly through prayer. Seek Him who has already sought you. I love you, Luke, though I don't know you and you don't know me, the Love of Christ in my soul extends to you. And with that surety, I can live in hope because I know where I am going when I die. There can be miracles when you believe. There is a beautiful parallel between Jesus and the Exodus story as well. The Bible states that the price for sin is death, and because all have sinned, all deserve death. God is holy and God is just, He cannot stand sin. Therefore, He allows those who choose to live in their sin to live out their sin for eternity in a place called hell, where there is a great weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:42). But He offers a way out. In the same way that He allows us to live in sin for eternity, He allows us to live in righteousness with Him for eternity. When the angel of death passed through the land of Egypt and saw the blood of the lamb, it passed over the house of the believer because the price of death had already been paid. For centuries, Hebrew High Priests would place the sins of their people on an innocent and unblemished lamb, who more importantly committed no sin. They would then turn that lamb loose into the wilderness to die as a sacrifice. The lamb would take the place of the sinner and pay the price of sin. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16). Jesus Christ was sent from heaven as God's son, as the permanent unblemished lamb, who committed no sin, but experienced every temptation known to man. He lived a perfect life as fully human and fully divine, and Jesus, though He had the power to command an army of angels to kill those who wronged Him, chose to die upon the cross to pay the price for every sin that has ever been committed as well as every sin that will ever be committed for all eternity. "Therefore He [Jesus] had to be made like His brothers in every respect, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people." (Hebrews 2:17). "I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life." (John 5:24) "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him." (John 3:17) He gives us a way out of death, all we have to do is believe with our whole hearts, minds, and souls that Jesus is the sacrificial lamb for which our sins were placed. That He lived a perfect life, died an excruciating death for sins we committed, and 3 days later He rose from His grave, defeating sin in death so that we may have life. This is the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Messiah (Gospel translates to good news). Miracles will happen when you believe.
