The table tennis film you referenced may have been Balls of Fury, which is hilarious. You should also watch Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons; it is another funny movie with Stephen Chow as a director and an actor.

It's unfortunate you couldn't get the original Hong Kong cut. There were some scenes I'm sure would have you laughing.

Would like to explain the language in the movie is mainly in Cantonese (as they are from Hong Kong) which is totally different from Mandarin. Also noticed the sub are heavily simplified in english, where 90% of jokes or phase are not translated accurately, don't know why some sentence such as "F you" or "F your mother" are not even tranlated properly.

I think that's because this is the shorter international release. There's a longer directors cut that's better.

Hey Luke, I recommend you watch the longer directors cut of Shaolin Soccer. The one you watched was the international version that cuts out a lot of stuff. Whether you record it or watch it on your own is up to you, but I do recommend watching it because of how much better it is.

When I heard a new stephen chow movie was being shown in theaters near me, my entire family went. "The mermaid" is like a modern telling of ariel except she (along with her fish friends) is trying to kill the ceo of some major company that is polluting the ocean.
