Luke watches too much anime if he thinks they all need to be glowing to show they’re charged up xD

This match definitely wasn't it. You can tell how much the production was getting worse and worse, and the animation is....something. The movie is generational tho, I can't wait for you to see that.

1:13:58-1:14:51 - I understand what you're saying but I think you need to understand 3 things: Karasuno's playstyle, this is a sports anime, and this is a Japanese story (Japanese storytelling is super emotion or vibes based most of the time). Karasuno's playstyle is putting 10 small pressures to build up to scoring points. They lose points or a set or miss blocks to better understand the other side and build momentum to score points. Just because their motivation returned in that moment thanks to Hinata didn't mean they were gonna start scoring like crazy (that's western story conventions). It meant they were gonna keep doing what they were doing and not give up on it. Which means they still might miss, lose points, etc. while they build up to those eventual scores. It wasn't like a DBZ moment, it was more like a real sports moment. The mindset was restored but the body has to follow later. I'm not trying to chastise, just talking what I know or understand. You don't have to like Japanese storytelling conventions or Karasuno's playstyle but understanding it is important. As a side note, it's been funny hearing Japanese storytellers (like game devs) talk about how western audiences need everything to lead somewhere or need everything spelled out when that's just not how they do things in Japan a lot of the time. So, I try to bring up cultural differences in storytelling when I can. Because it's interesting! Hope you're having a good day or evening!

I wonder(on the nakedness convo) if part of it is locational? Where I'm at its really chill unless it's ridiculous(afab and amab)

2:16:39 I recently watched a youtube video with foreigners living in Japan (that speak fluent Japanese) talking about this topic! It was pretty interesting since they were talking about changes made in Japanese video games when they were localized for the US. One of the people in the group is Austrian and from her perspective she thought the Japanese don't see actual nakedness as sexual unlike Americans. But also, women in Japan do tend to cover up generally but when they're in the bath together, it's just bathing, it's not sexual, same with men. But on the other hand, American women do show their bodies but in media, it's sort of frowned upon and will bring up the rating of that media. It was an interesting perspective and conversation. She said in Europe you can be naked in real life and in media. 😂 It's only sexual when it is, not automatically. But I guess that doesn't stretch to the UK.

Luke, I am so happy to have your reactions on this anime. Regarding you opinion on season, I think you party pooped yourself. I believe the author's intent was to create the frustrating feeling you felt, the third set was depicted as a close one from the start, they did not highlight the points because I think they wanted to create the feeling of pressure. I agree with the chat guy that the problem of this season was the Nekoma game interruption, it kinda throws a cold water bucket mid game. Then your rant felt like you were going to kill for yourself the whole joy of the payback at the end, you spent way too long trying to explain yourself and your position. I was super happy you could feel it at the end. The rant did not shut you emotionally off the anime. I get your frustration with how long it takes for them to release. Think this way, it is a peak sport anime, like the Olympics or the World cup, so it comes once every 4 years. ;-)

I agree with the dude saying your reaction was a bit underwhelming to that quick in reverse but I think its the directors fault for not spelling it out. Either that or it would have been ten times cooler seeing Hinata serve a minus tempo quick to Kageyama which is the equivalent of what they did

many of the complains are valid and i agree, and i don`t say it as a critique Luke, but are a bit of an "adrenaline junkie", you seen to enjoy more when the storytelling structure is more about of ramping up rather than setting up to a latter pay off, these are styles and there is nothing wrong with preferences, during the tokyo training camp you also felt odd about the season, but it was mainly cause the pay off would only come latter in the match against shiratorizawa, (Tsuki having his moment as an exemple). this is not a complaint, but the discourse felt so open that i felt like sharing my view, hope you`re doing well, luv your reactions, keep it going, an hopefully bring back Fate Strange/fake

i was trying to remember when was the last time i watched haikyuu when it came out, it felt like so long ago, but damn, 2020?

SunTzu: the art-of-tea

Idk luke i think you've been focusing too much on whats being said and not on what happens if you thinking karasuno had no chance to win . Its also bcs you watch many episodes at a time instead of how it was supposed to be watchedfrom week to week .

SunTzu: the art-of-tea

Also in this season thet focused more on kageyama and tanaka . Which will only mean we will see more of the others next movie

SunTzu: the art-of-tea

Another thing is atsumo played an extraordinary game he stopped about 25 points and scored about 25 searves. He was defence and atk

i love inarizaki so much that i got their motto tattooed on my arm!!

Fully agree with all the criticism. I think this season is by far the weakest and I refuse to watch the followup movie (by far the worst way to tell the story, I hate that movie season trend). I feel they didn't deliver what they promised at the start of the anime. Hinata genuinely didn't improve that much compared to the start, he is still a bad player objectively. I also don't like all the Japan team stuff because it's just used to introduce new characters and doesn't actually matter. The twins doing the quick also shows just how bad Hinata actually is and we get no payoff for that. And the rare good moments just feel repetitive here. I loved season 1 to 3 though.

That one example at 1 hour 9 minute actually happens to me in VCT XD I would find this match unrealistic if it didn't happen to me in an unscripted match before and it's probably why I didn't notice these things when I was watching it alone

In regards to the scene of them being hyped up and then not doing anything special immediately on the start of the next episode, I can understand why you would feel like it was underwhelming, but the point was that they had mentally given up until Hinata opened his mouth. They were about to stop fighting for good. Hinata brought back their will to fight, he didn't inject them with super drugs or something. The fact that they got back to their normal rhythm is the crazy thing that happened as a result of that Hinata hype session. It wasn't making them stronger, it was getting them back to the point where they could focus on what they *can* do instead of what they couldn't. They went from negative 10 back to like a 5.

The movies are wrapping up the entire story. Also, it looks like another OVA. We will just have to see when the final stuff gets released in 2027. I would have preferred a season 5 and then another movie, but this is what they decided. We have the Dumpster Battle that's already out and then (Movie 2) releasing 2027. And then finally The Place Where Monsters Go (Anime Project/Special). Trust, that the series is almost done at this point.

I kind of don't get Luke's insistence that Hinata's "bigger jump scene" was a big thing that never came to fruition. I mean sure, Kageyama was like "you can jump higher" and we see a scene of them practicing and as Hinata was about to jump, it was interrupted by Daichi. I never saw this as a big scene or thought that Hinata was onto something new here. It just felt like a regular scene. Hinata isn't going to unlock massive jumps just over night like that. Never seemed like a big or important plot point to me right now, but Luke is really fixated on this haha.

i mean, i started watching haikyuu when i was in high school, i went to uni, almost dropped out, became unemployed, and the haikyuu anime is still ongoing😂 but to be fair, they usually animate REALLY well, so that's probably where all the time goes to regarding the criticism, for me i'm a bit more dense(?) so i don't really notice things. i just watch haikyuu and take things as they come, so i didn't really feel that way i guess? i think people who are defensive just find it hard to hear something they love being criticised. people all have different sensitivities to such things after all. but honestly i was way too focused on the art/animation problems to notice haha regarding the two people we follow: i'm not entirely sure if you know this? it's hard for me to tell if it's a joke or if you forgot, but daisho suguru is the captain of nohebi (the snake team) that nekoma went up against to secure their spot in nationals. i'm not sure if you remember, but at the start he was made fun of because mika his girlfriend broke up with him. after the match, she went up to him and apologised, and they got back together. she's pretty new to volleyball (him spending a lot of time on volleyball was why she broke up with him initially) so it makes sense that a lot of things would be explained to her. regarding the experience watching haikyuu: i have watched some volleyball players react to haikyuu. apparently, haikyuu is actually pretty accurate most times (aside from some instances of unrealistic things) and they can do what hinata learnt to do: the set being too low, who's approaching, who's where on the court, and know who's likely to get the ball, or if it's going to be a setter dump, so if someone were to want to get better at reading the court, they could absolutely do that by watching haikyuu

47:52 I feel exactly the same watching Karasuno play as I feel when I'm watching my national team play in a big tournament. It's just that type of game, you can never really relax, if the teams are equal enough (and sometimes even when they aren't equal). So Haikyuu is actually very realistic, and it shows that Luke hasn't seen any real games (especially ones where he'd care who actually wins).
