Roli D. Great

I thought that Luke will type and say the famous word again in MHA anime: Dark(er) :D

Orieng

Next episode is gonna be awesome :)

AdrixelCV

Did he just called Beatrice, Becky???

Jonahmario1

The reason he tells gentle he was the hardest to fight is because he sees himself in him. Less physically difficult but psychologically.

Ben Stephenson

to clarify, I think Deku saying he was the hardest to fight wasn't because Gentle was the strongest, but rather that it was hard for his heart since he understood how he felt so well

AdrixelCV

Gentle was a Criminal, but he wasn't a villain 😞

Biostar

That "bitter" feeling you have should give you an idea of why this fight was so hard for Deku.

Mar242

Luke, you definitely need to watch the "My Hero Academia "Hero too" Performance's Music Video by U.A High School Class 1-A" by TOHO animation after the next episode.....it hits different.

Nikkelz

I never understand why so many people feel the need to say this? let it happen naturally

Ragnaroc

During Gentle's flashback when he tried to save that person, you'll notice that the hero who tried to swoop in only did so after the person was falling. I believe they were waiting on the roof the whole time for the "right moment"...

Neki

Just put yourself in Gentle's shoes. He just wants to take LaBrava to a festival and some child is stopping him and claiming he's ruining lives.

Meteoria

Will never cease to amaze me that people *can't* say certain spoilers in chat, whether it's during livestreams or comments on vids. Are some people just incapable of not typing something?

Dragweb

SPOILER ALERT

Krawbs

Aren't you able to delete blatant spoilers?

hussam abdelalim

i don't think that Deku meant the opponent's strength when he was talking about this is the toughest fight he had

Daniel Gonzalez

I think Deku wasnt referring to Gentles strength its who Gentle was that made the fight so tough he's a criminal by definition cuz he does commit crimes but he's not really a villain also the reason his family turned on him was after he tried to help and ended up making things worse they were getting harassed by people at their home with graffiti and slander think he also paid a settlement and his dads company also suffered I do get where he's coming from he'd wanted to be a hero and after getting Mike Evansd by his classmate he realized hey villains are also remembered in history but yeah no his dream never takes precedence over teaching Eri to smile any other day maybe though he'd still be ruining everyone's prep on that day but I think he was clearly too spent to escape at the end his last gasp of strength was just sending Deku away

Daniel Gonzalez

Just so everyone knows I reported this comment on the grounds of I just don't like this, spoilers on a reaction channel wtf just because he sometimes poses open ended questions doesn't mean he wants answers he's committed and going at a decent pace he'll find out eventually when he wants to be spoiled he'll tell you

Daniel Gonzalez

I pretty much commented the same yes he committed crimes by definition but here's only ever the villain of this arc it might seem minor to some but the stakes for Deku this was like Overhaul DLC protect her smile

Exelion AI

I feel that gentle's past is an example of why the system is how it is: he stepped in to help, but his interference backfired and made things worse. We know he repeatedly failed the licence test, and that was with the more lax standards from before deku took it. A full fledged hero with his quirk might have placed more air trampolines predictively to redirect other outcomes for safety and called out what he was doing to warn others for instance. Considering that he has been active as a criminal for quite a while without being caught, I imagine he has gotten far better at using his quirk and improved his battle iq compared to back then, he could likely have gotten the licence if he had had his current abilities back then.

Exelion AI

I believe he is mixing things up but thinking of Beako.

Marcel Hanke

yeah his analysing and mentality to adapt quickly is outstanding.

Honky

For how much blud likes rezero he called Betty ‘Becky’ multiple times 😭 I suppose

Nikkelz

Lukes mind runs on a hamster wheel, sometimes it combines things, I imagine he looked at la brava's hair said to himself, beatrice/bisky/beako all at once and it came out at becky

GhostZethAaa

Think about the opponents Deku has defeated in the past, they were stronger than Gentle but they all wanted to do horrible things, that's why fighting them felt natural for Deku as a hero. With Gentle's goal Deku can actually empathize and feel like they are trying to achieve their own versions of the same dream, Deku felt no empathy for his previous enemies, therefore making this fight mentally harder for him.

L.C.

I love Gentle and La Brava in the series. I think they are two amazing characters that break the standard of your typical "villain". So many conflicting thoughts going on with them during this fight. It makes you realize that Deku and Gentle are two opposing sides of the same type of coin. Deku could have easily been Gentle if things had gone differently. Their characters have a lot of parallels in certain ways. The respect they both gain for each other after this fight is good to see. It also gives a great example of how hero society creates villains or outcasts due to things that are somewhat out of their control. This series does a fantastic job showing the many cracks of a society based on celebrity heroes and super powers.

L.C.

Next episode is a great follow up to this fight. Excited to see your reactions!

GhostZethAaa

27:05 "This is the first time I've kinda felt like this..." it's the same for Deku.

Diego Miranda

imo that backstory wasn't to justify what he is doing, because what he is doing even if it's rooted in good it's still just straight up wrong even if he wants to do is sneak in and get out and then post the fact that he snuck in on youtube, that backstory was to say that there is good in gentle criminal and that he can be redeemed

James Perrott

Your conflict with their fight ending is exactly why Deku said it was so hard to fight him. Not cause it was the hardest fight physically but because of the conflicting feelings regarding him and La Brava and their feelings

Dethrox

It was very bitter for Deku aswell Luke :D

Holy Shot

Isn't it the same from the next episode? is there anything different?

Kiryuu Yona

I was just about to comment the same, i was waiting this whole time for this episode everytime the topic of why the system restricts ppl from using their quirks freely

m_love96

It's so crazy to go back to the earlier arcs (Sports festival) with Monoma 'cause, like... he's completely different than he is now. You say now he "looks like a genius" but he was one of the first people to notice Uraraka's strategy against Bakugou during their one-on-one fight. Don't say goodbye to Gentle and La Brava quite yet! We get to see a bit more of their ending in the next episode.

Thiago Serra

To be fair, a mix of Betty and Beako

iNeedCoffee

I mean, we all know that Luke sometimes confuses names, it's not a big deal

Sébastien Montibert

I love them both. Usually, when there is a power based on love, the loved one uses the lover as a power boost, but neglact them. Here, Gentle is, well, gentle with la Brava, he warned her, then accepted her love and the boost given as a gift. The boost is a proof of la Brava's love, and never Gentle seemed to not deserve it (into the relationship at last). Yes, he refused to leave, but that determination is part of him and part of what la Brava loves. And, until meeting Deku, Gentle never used this love to commit a crime (and against Deku, it was an emergency), just to flee.

Sébastien Montibert

I'm not sure Deku would let them flee, because he couldn't take the risk of them lying and causing the trouble he's afraid they would make. Deku is nice but he has to protect Eri and his class.

The Coolcg10

Gentle says that the reason he is attempting to infiltrate U.A. during the festival is that it is a warning basically saying, "Things are bad and you are having a party?" Of course that is just an excuse because he doesn't want to be forgotten. He isn't a murderer, or wants to get famous for "heinous" crimes. He even said that his infiltration will just push heroes to be better. He does WANT to help, in his own way. In his eyes, this is just a silly school festival, they happen every year. He doesn't have the context we have of Eri, or the other students. When these episodes first aired I honestly found them kinda lame, but after my first rewatch I really enjoyed Gentle Criminal.

LLNavi

trying to be selfless failed gentle, so i cant really blame him for being selfish for a change.

Yako

I really thought Luke would be, I downt want to say empathic with gentle but at least understand some things that he is doing, I know he is the “bad”, but men, I really love my goat Gentle, so fucking goat tier villain, love him and La Brava

The Pots

that "dream" from Gentle Criminal is not "for himself and La Brava" only as given last ep, his motivation is clearly displayed to refute the current hero system

JammySplosha

it really is a bitter feeling episode huh?

Vinnick

For a low stakes fight, this was a pretty damn high stakes fight.

Kenra

When Deku is locked in, he’s locked in 🔒

nicolai arpintin

I dropped MHA about 4 years ago, no matter what I tried, I couldn't get past season 5. Well... Since Luke's last vid, I researched season 5 in 2 days, and will be catching up to finale by next week , thank you Luke.🍎🍎🍎🍎🍎. Also Gentle criminal is my favorite character from MHA

Skyler Croghan

remember gentle has no clue about eri :) he just wants to shake up the hero world by sneaking into ua just to say he did it

Skyler Croghan

Because its a massive deal. imagine nasa doing a space launch and you could just walk right up to the rocket, it would get everyone to lose faith or question nasa if they couldnt even keep 1 person out

Kiwi

Luke doing his damnedest to make sure the word 'genius' loses its meaning completely xD

banana fragola

gentle criminal and la brava are my favorite characters in all of My Hero Academia. This might sound silly, but I absolutely loved their way of doing things and their determination to do what they believed was right, even if it meant hurting others. I really admired their convictions, even though they had so little screen time. If you pay attention during the fight, they even say that they don’t like using force, but if it’s necessary to achieve their dream, which by that point is no longer just their own, they’re willing to do it. Their actions were never driven by a desire to hurt anyone. They simply refused to abandon their ideals, even when pursuing them meant making difficult choices.
