This is a small plugin that recreates some of the background lighting features from the old Alive UI that some people are missing, but in an easier to use interface. It's a bit of a niche plugin, aimed for those that need better performance in VAM a lot, especially in VR or AR, at the cost of lighting realism, or for those that want lighting to be consistent across their scenes or more stylized.

AnimeMode cutomizes and makes VAM scene lighting more like old-school games lighting (like some Illusion games for example), and it generally makes VAM look more stylized and a bit more 2Dish. But that also makes almost all scenes considerably faster and spares you the headaches of having to do lighting yourself or deal with the 3d positioning aspect of that.

FEATURES

It has 2 main features:

  • it disables realtime lights when it's active, automatically

  • it adds presets for the scene lighting, making the models look more stylized

In short, it lets you play a more old-school looking VAM, without the huge framerate cost of real-time lights, and without having to do much setup.

RECOMMENDED

If you use this in VR, you can bump up most likely the render scale setting and still get great performance!

Higher render scale will make VAM in VR look a lot crisper, less pixelated and just feel better. Normally that comes at a huge cost performance-wise due to the realtime lights to a big extent. But with this, with Anime Mode on, lighting should be more consistent across scenes and less expensive performance-wise.

COMPATIBILITY

It should work with PostMagic and other filter plugins too. So you can add more effects on top of it and make VAM look a lot more interesting. Post processing effects will add to the performance cost a bit, but it's a lot less than what realtime lights

HOW TO USE

  • add the var in the AddonPackages folder and restart vam

  • when in Edit Mode in VAM, go to Session Plugins tab in the menu, add AnimeMode.cslist plugin

If you want it to load automatically with your VAM, in Session Plugin Presets you can press Change User Defaults > Set Current As Users Defaults, and it should save your current session plugins as defaults. The next time when you load vam, it should load with these plugins automatically.
