One of my oculus controllers went bad and is drifting. I know it's a common issue with oculus

I'll try to do a plugin for that, replace the default vam vr locomotion and have some deadzone sliders to ignore the drift. I was wandering if there are other people that have the issue. I know there's at least one other person that brought it up a while ago. If there's others I'll move it up the priorities list, i know how annoying it is

Is your oculus controller drifting?

I would suggest trying wd 40 specialist contact cleaner for anyone with drift issues. It's make specifically for electronics. Just give it plenty of time to dry afterwards. I use it on among other things the janky volume wheel on razor keyboards. Spray whatever down and works like new for a few months. No disassembly or worrying about damaging stuff.

yup, thank you, i'll try something like that too. i might end up changing the vr controls anyway for Fraemework, to have the first-person mode work in vr too, to be able to sprint, slide and quick load tools/toys

yeah, I think this quote summons it up pretty good: "A common reason why controllers run into drift problems is that they are prone to deterioration, which will naturally occur with use. In more recent years, the life cycle of technology has shortened dramatically to promote further purchases (yay, capitalism), thereby further exacerbating the issue."

In Steam VR there is a calibration tool to fix drift. I use it on my reverb G2. Funny Oculus doesn't have that.

pop the black cover off and spray some BW-100 on the inside of the stick and work it around for a min. Drift fixed

did this a couple months ago and drift has not come back yet

couldn't agree more. it happens both in hardware and software unfortunately. with hardware there's at least the excuse that they save money by using low quality manufacturing. but with software, like apple got caught doing, it's just shady. i wouldn't put it past fb to do shady things in this regard

even funnier is that people found a way to do it on the CV1 headset but then they 'patched' it for the headsets that followed and nobody found a way to do it since. from a code point of view it's the most basic thing. They already have a deadzone setting, they would only need to allow people to change the values. They could even add some smart logic since they have touch detection, prevent any movement if there's nothing touching the joysticks. but big corp gonna big corp
