“Wh-what, what happened here?” Huyan Lanruo whispered as she looked at the scene before her with wide eyes. Her voice breaking as she saw the tragic scene in front of her.
They had been travelling for a few hours when they finally reached something that resembled a treasure room, but the moment they opened the door, they were greeted to this scene. Ye Xen, someone who had already seen this event in the manhua in his world, still felt sick seeing it in person.
The sight that greeted them was of the skeletons and remains of many men, women and children, people who had hidden themselves here in hopes of returning to the surface the moment the Age of Darkness, and the Demon Beast hordes that attacked their city disappeared, but alas, they perished before they could return to the surface.
Most of the skeletons were mangled together, hugging each other or having their head on each other’s shoulder. Their last moments, the moments they wanted to spend together. He simply offered a prayer to the deities he knew, before he went towards them.
“What are you doing?” Huyan Lanruo questioned as she saw Ye Xen removing certain objects from the remains of the people who passed away. She didn’t even realize that she was crying, so she quickly wiped away her tears as she moved towards Ye Xen.
“While grave robbing is not something I want to do ever again, it is necessary for us to take every advantage we can. These artifacts are priceless and would greatly boost one’s cultivation. Leaving them here to rot, is not something I will do. However, the least I can for these people is give them a proper funeral, something I will be doing after storing these artifacts,” Ye Xen calmly replied.
Huyan Lanruo felt that she should say something. Anything that would prove this to be wrong and morally inhuman. However, before she could say anything Ye Xen said a few words that made her blood run cold. “If we don’t do this, Glory City might very well become the next Ancient Orchid City.”
That was enough to bring her out of her funk, as she also began helping Ye Xen. It was then she noticed, how immature and bratty she was behaving till now. Since she was an only child, she was spoiled rotten by her clan. She got whatever she wanted; never did she think of the consequences. But this experience, it opened her eyes to the reality of the world, and she vowed to be better.
Ye Xen saw the emotions go through the eyes of the spoilt pink-haired princess beside him, he knew she will now behave the way she is supposed to as the heiress of a major noble clan. They were soon done and began moving inside after burying the dead. They offered a silent prayer to wish them a good life in the afterlife.
Ye Xen’s gaze fell to the center of the hall. At the center of the hall lies a huge stone coffin that was three meters long and about one meter in height. The surface of the coffin was covered with mysterious engravings. Those engravings were quite familiar, but he was unable to recognize it out. It was then he remembered what it was: Kong Ming’s Tomb.
Moving closer to Emperor Kong Ming's stone coffin, Ye Xen felt a mysterious force rushing towards him. It felt, as he stood beside the stone coffin, like he was standing in the middle of the roaring ocean and could fly out any time. It was no wonder that those who died around here did not get close to the stone coffin. Maybe it was only due to him being a reincarnated person that he was unaffected.
"Ye Xen, what's wrong with that stone coffin?" Lanruo asked, seeing him deep in thought.
Just when she was coming over, about three meters away from the coffin, her face suddenly turned pale and had to step back.
"What's wrong?" Ye Xen asked, trying to confirm his suspicions.
"When I got closer, I felt a splitting headache!" Huyan Lanruo replied. This confirmed it. In canon even Nie Lie could pass through, due to him being reincarnated. Ye Xen guessed within his heart.
He turned his head and said to Lanruo, "Go explore the other areas, leave this one to me."
"En," Lanruo nodded and walked towards the other side.
Ye Xen checked the stone coffin. The stone coffin was completely sealed with all kinds of mysterious inscription patterns on the top. Even though his knowledge is vast, he has never seen these inscription patterns before.
“Hmm, let’s see what you have in store for me,” he muttered to himself.
