In the sub-basement of Myriad’s church, Ben forced himself to act. As every instance of himself was returned to a single whole the second he stepped through, others within the void sensed a way out through the madness that hell had left them in as their own instances began to collapse, driving them through the space as a few dozen made it back into the mortal plane before Ben could close the way, capturing them all with his soul and examining their histories before condemning them again, seeing none who were worthy of mercy in that batch at least.

Even condemning them himself felt like too much despite the sort of crimes they held, yet he wasn’t in a position to deal with those ghosts in a different way, and he couldn’t let them get out into the world, driving his actions. It was only when that was done and he was sure nothing else would be getting through that he let himself collapse, heaving a deep breath as he did.

He’d made it back. He was home, in the mortal realm, and no longer in a position where he needed to suppress his rage. After all he’d done, gods of that world had just attempted to damn him for eternity and he wouldn’t be letting that fact go, even if that meant the people he loved would be left to believe he was gone for a little while longer.

When he’d dropped into hell, his connection to Thera had broken, leaving him with no doubt she was busy trying to figure out what had happened to him, and Myriad had been talking to him at the time, meaning his god knew exactly what had been done. Both would be worried sick, but if he revealed himself to them too soon, the gods who’d attacked him would likely become aware of his escape as well, something he couldn’t allow when he didn’t know what else they would do. Ten divinities had descended to get rid of him, but that didn’t mean more weren’t responsible. He needed to investigate, and with that, he needed to be able to walk the different pathways to each god involved.

Some he knew, but others he didn’t, not that it mattered. Go into the church of any god and he’d be able to find any path without issue, just as he had with Nare and Helori before, but knowing that, he still needed to be careful about how he went about it. He was in the middle of town, after all. If he left, then he could easily be recognized, and if he stretched his soul out, then Thera, Mora, or even any of the smaller soul spirits would be liable to finding him. If he was to assume that the divine were keeping eyes on his family, then he couldn’t let them notice him either.

And if I need to go to any church to find the pathways to the assholes who did that to me, taking any shortcut through the shop is pretty liable to get me found too. Whatever, doesn’t matter. Just means I’m going the long way around.

Needing only a bit of preparation first. While he could hide himself from the eyes of the divine with his sacrilege, mortals would take a bit more to deal with, so he first materialized a hooded cloak to hide away his face from anyone who might recognize him before next applying all of the power of his newly awakened alien sense.

He didn’t have the leeway to experiment with it to see if there were any other ways using it had changed, and while even the second tier was an unfathomable drop compared to how it had felt to use when he’d layered it in hell, his alien sense now went beyond the power that most others in the world would be able to experience their own natural senses, which was good enough for him as he actualized around himself, perfectly mimicking the colours anyone would see when viewing him from any angle to leave him invisible to the world, as ready as he could be as he ascended the stairs and let himself out of the church, seeing Stonewall around him when he did.

Late afternoon, plenty of people were still out and about, finishing up their days, with not a single eye on him. He was perfectly invisible, hidden from the world around him as he lifted himself into the air and began to fly off. Slowly at first, not wanting the wind he would leave to be noticed by anyone, but picked up speed the moment he left the town’s range, until he was shooting across forests and roads, using that time to plot and plan as he went, a question taking up most of his mind as he did. Kill the gods involved in what happened to him or just break them so he could use them for whatever worth they held later, with that debate taking the majority of his trip out.

Like returning to the womb, Ben joked to himself, the lack of comment making him miss Myriad all the more, with only a few minutes to go before he’d be able to bother his god with his sense of humour once again.

Along with my actions, but I think in this one particular case, he’s going to feel pretty forgiving, right?

Considering that everything he was going to do was a reaction to his attempted murder and damnation, he doubted Myriad was going to have much complaint for however he reacted to it, and as for any other, uninvolved gods, they would just have to deal with how it played out. Things had gotten too far; there was no room for further discussion, so with that settled, Ben landed, walking the rest of the way to his destination.

A building was in sight, the only one around the meadow it had been built in, looking beautiful yet simple. There was no display of opulence, nothing gaudy about it, it was simply a well-made piece of architecture, built with care and devotion as Ben made his way to its doors to let himself in, back to the church where he’d first awoken on that world.

For what he needed, a communal church had made the most sense, given that all of the statues of all of the gods within it would let him find the paths to their realms thanks to the faith they received, and without passing through any of his shortcuts, that had been the closest one. A pilgrimage point for people to travel to with the intent of showing their gods their faith, walking those halls again after so long couldn’t help but feel strange.

The fact that it was so close to Stonewall meant that he should have visited sooner; he still kept in touch with some living in those halls, after all, but he never had. There was always something else to do, some other problem to manage or a goal to reach that had taken up his time, and while there were plenty who lived there he liked and cared about, that would never change the fact that it was where he’d found out he’d lost his old life.

Still, I should at least say hello while I’m here, he told himself, but that was a task for after. The gods came first, and, feeling that priority, he walked through the halls of statues dedicated to them, feeling with his sacrilege which one of them matched the divinity he’d felt before he’d been dropped below until he had all he could find with the information he held. He still knew there was a chance that more had been involved, but he could steal the information on who else had participated in plots of his disposal from their thoughts and then find their pathways using the statues around him as well. None would escape, and none of them would ever know peace again. For that and all else he’d put up with during his dealings with the divine, Ben would have his revenge.

It's been a long time coming, looking forward to seeing his revenge!

Gale Emm

Ah he's incognito

R4wlo

Ah yes using all those churches and statues of the enemy gods! Oh wait.. why is this statue plinth in the communal church empty? Why is there a hole where that church used to be?

SDCard

I'd say RIP to the gods who attacked Ben, but I doubt will be merciful enough to let them die.

Vorquel

Hidden. Should have known. Tomorrow should be a treat.

Cheuk Hin Ho

Hell yeah! Revenge arc, woohoo!

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter! So close to revenge time! So he was both delayed and hid himself, thats fun. I look forward to his reunion with some of the church people. Might need to go reread the beginning to prep for that.

Alexander Dupree

Duh DUH Duh DUH What’s that strange Ben shaped fin poking up through the realms?!?

Emily Gurnavage

I feel like he might fully kill at least one, just because he has never seen a God fully die yet and with all his senses and skills and him being him, that seems like an experience he could make use of. Idk who though. Eneth so he has no chance of a future escape? Or the one(s) with the least ill-will out of the group as a small mercy while also helping himself and removing existential threats? With so many God souls maybe some can be used for weapons and tools too.

Jonathan Wood

I don’t think the communal churches have been hit by the Spirits quite yet since the focus was on the dedicated private churches. Or at least not this one.

SDCard

I wonder if we'll gett Sacrilege 4th tier out of this...

Luboš Hemala

Ground them up in potions as the other forbidden gods and use their souls as fuel for Sacrilege training. Maybe Thera can have a go at killing Eneth.

juneboi2

Delicious thank you

Matías Rojas

Ben could have used the invisibility magic in his rings, no?

Jon Lomax

mmmh, really got excited for this chapter. Last 48 hours been thinking how it would go down... Last thing I'd expected was it to just fizzle out.

SacredSteel

Kind of a short chapter. I would have thought Ben would have let myriad know straight away considering he knew of his contingency. And wouldn't Thera be able to tell he is back from the bind skill ?

demure

Amoung all the other plot points, i really want him to catch Lehie up on what is happening. I can only imagine her reaction to Ben being way older than her mentally, a god, and about to end some asshole gods.

Ben Cox

Why must chapters come out so slowly, I needed his whole revenge arc dropped at once to binge. this is torture. Something a lot of gods are about to realise in their futures as well. Tyrtc

Luboš Hemala

They can temporarily disable the Bind skill.

funktorial

dang ben is really bad at stealth if even that didn't give him a level lol

Luboš Hemala

Wonder if that would work on spirits, they percieve world using their magic senses.

Matías Rojas

Could Ben hide from them with actualization? They'd still be able to sense his mana

Luboš Hemala

I think the main fun is incoming right now. Ben showing up in ten divine realms at once.

Luboš Hemala

I wonder if they put up any sort of fight against him, using up their faith. But his eldritch mind alone should just outclass them too much.

Call0013

Wonder if he could get the remaining Gods to Tier up his God’s Boon skill.(Assuming he doesn’t use the Gods that acted against him to Do it).

TheLostGolem

I mean... they aren't even existential threats anymore. What are they going to do? Send him to hell? That was tried. Kill him? He'll just ascend.

Michigo

Just to find them empty, believing those pesky gods are on the run... while they are actually behind divine bars elsewhere. 😂

Michigo

I knew it. He returned early-ish and started plotting his revenge before announcing his comeback. Next step: nobody is home, those divine realms are empty. Not because they are on the run from him, but because they are in the divine time out corner. That or a / the meeting is going on.😅

Alik9999

this chapter is so short it called for an appointment for leg lengthening surgery

Luboš Hemala

Provided he can gain total control of them.. could he use their faith for himself? It would be pretty selfish, but awaking a skill is still worth it.

TheLostGolem

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Ben, Myriad certainly did notice Ben coming back, since there's no way he wouldn't be keeping an eye on the spot he knew Ben would come back at if he were able to make it out. However, Myriad also isn't saying anything because he also wants Eneth dead at this point.

Andrew Nichols

Too short. Blah...are we gonna get a chapter per instance? Like is he gonna round them all up, THEN revenge? Or is he gonna pick em off a few at a time, to make the worst offenders squirm?

Andrew Nichols

Also, TFTC it's both Be(e)n worth the wait and it's killing me for.more

Jean Clinet

Good thing he looked for a communal church, since the culprit don't have a single private one anymore.

Uveryahi

I'm with you! I wish we could bribe the author with donations for extra chapters!

Tomáš Blábol

divine time out could be them locked up in their realms, right?

Michigo

Yes, and it would be bittersweet. With Ben going to visit each of them for a nice and cozy cup of tea. 😊

Isaac Boyles

Oh I've waiting for this for so long

copperspike

i mean he has all of their senses, so he should be able to tell just how invisible he is, and what senses he didn't manage figuring out how to fool and thus exactly how stealthy he needs to be

Enxes

Ben's sacrilege blocks divine sight. If Ben was hiding his connection to Myriad then he can also block Myriad from viewing him

Mare Matthews

I agree. She’s definitely one of the people he’d have been corresponding with, but exactly how much he’s told her about everything… 😂 She almost certainly knows he’s the Apostle of Myriad, however, so I’m interested in how much she’s put together about everything Ben advertises Myriad with (soul enhancements, etc.).

Mare Matthews

I agree, Myriad is full cold fury at this point, and will be in complete support of anything Ben tries.

Mare Matthews

I am very excited to see Ben’s reaction to learning this fact and how it came to be. 😊

Ekko

In my head Ben with his hooded cloak looked like Anakin, when he fell to the Dark Side and went to kill the younglings XD. Only Ben is in the right and the Gods aren't innocent children

Jeppe Lund

With Ben skills, think he can grind Enith into some sort of enchanting powder? Really emphasis the Divine in divine enchanting, might help with making a mythic god slaying item, or some sort of divine negation shield or some other middle finger to the gods

Alik9999

I mean it's even more obvious then, imagine you are locking at your basement and pouf you don't see your basement anymore and then a few second after you see it again, if sacrilege work like a curtain then myriad know he is back.

Ekko

Btw, I think him sneaking around should count as XP for Stealth, right?

Alik9999

what's even more funny is if during the meetings of god myriad notice he is back and what make him so worried is not how is ben doing but what will ben do.

Matías Rojas

He'll go one by one, but it'll be so fast it's almost instantaneous

Dark Shadewalker

New god souls baby. Tier 4 sacrilege is gonna be a cakewalk

Hellophi

Tyftc, massacre time

Starter_guy

Revenge!!! 😈 Plus if this is the same time Thera goes round destroying everything it gives the perfect cover for taking out the gods as all their clergy will be missing too 😁

John Vistica

An excellent transition chapter back to the mortal world. Answered all of the questions us fans were posting about like time passage, de-fractalizing all of those Bens, and dealing with other condemned souls. Going stealth mode was a great move and something new from Ben. Initiating Ben's revenge deserves its own chapter so that we can savor the moment.

Starter_guy

I would rather he hit them individually and then start taking out the other conspirators. Leaving Eneth for last as he realises he is being targeted and cant avoid it

Skrublorde

I hope Ben's revenge involves descending the gods and killing them in mortal flesh. The amount of growth for Ben and co would be insane, and probably awaken Defiler of Ambrosia.

Flusspferd

Now the question is, how does Stealth level? Is it bey being good at the movements to stay hidden or is it by staying undetected? Because if it is the latter, it should‘ve really leveled a couple of times… He just walked fully invisible through the middle of town after all.

John Vistica

Maybe he makes his mythic item by incorporating a god. The item would be something that incorporates divinity and completes the mythic quest. For example, the System was created from the original god of that world. The other gods would have to reward him for taking out a fellow god...talk about awkward...

John Vistica

I thought the god meeting concluded with the gods being confined to their own realm.

Tomáš Blábol

it's on the horizon, but doubt that it's gonna be cakewalk.

Jon Lomax

all at once, with all the other gods there. but unable to stop him

TBONEMAN

I agree with this. Hiding in plain sight from the entire world should awaken it if he hides for a few days

Emily Gurnavage

@Golem They are still existential threats. They sent him to Hell once, and they can do it again. Even though his failsafe didn't work right, he still came out in the church basement in the circle. Still used that connection as a lifeline. So if these Gods found out how he got back before their next attempt, they could try to take further precautions. Although if Ben is thinkin straight later, he will create another dozen ritual sites like the one under the church in hidden bunkers all over the world to avoid it being able to be sabotaged. They could also think of something else. Idk what, but as long as they have power and exist they are a threat he cant ignore.

Zak Webb

It's probably the first; every other time Ben needs to stay unnoticed he uses a tool, or his magic, or some other way of not being stealthy. With how easily he managed to get the skill, I think its unlikely he's particularly unsuited to it, so there has to be a different reason he hasn't been growing it any better than a normal person on the world.

Sparsebutton

He went invisible to people’s senses and didn’t get levels to stealth at Tier 1 with all his bonuses to evil and destruction (which I think applies to his stealth here since he’s trying to be sneaky so that he can figure out who’s getting killed)

Blake N.

You already do that.

Mare Matthews

Ben can punch holes in reality now. Drop him back down to the infinite hells again, and he can punch a hole (or several) big enough to find Myriad and work from there. Plus no one except Myriad will even know how Ben got out of hell; the gods can’t destroy a weakness if the don’t know it exists and fully believe he solved everything already.

Mare Matthews

Thera was focused more on hitting the idiot gods where it hurt the most and sending messages to as many of their followers as possible quickly. The communal churches won’t help with either, and she got distracted by her Pokémon collecting.

Mare Matthews

Myriad literally tried to eat Eneth. He’s past the point of worrying about what Ben’s going to do.

Carl Mason

Alik9999, he enchanted the basement with Sacrilege to hide the portal.

bioenthusiast

With his actualization Ben could fun with this. Recreate the death of the Voodoo man from princess and the frog with eneth.

Michigo

Ben has never been this angry before, and he has never been as powerful and "creative" as before either. The things he will do to those he deems guilty will be unspeakable. He can argue about good and evil all day long. But an >ANGRY< (future) god of evil, destruction, eldritch mind, soulcraft and last but certainly not least sacrilege is the stuff of supreme nightmares for Eneth and Co. In fact they tried to kill and condemn him to hell BECAUSE they were scared... and now he's back with an actual reason to make them shit their divine pants. 😶

Jonathan Wood

I do like the thought process of a Ben Side-project where he sifts through the damned Souls in the Infinite Hells and does a Rehab for the souls that don’t deserve to be there.

Mare Matthews

😂 Ah, the struggle of already getting the drug hits as fast as possible.

Mechanist Grimm

Can't wait for more ALSO *pops into realm* Ben just stares in disbelief as he watches Thera with an awakened sacrilege and Myriad taking turns suplexing or piledriving Eneth while steadily mixing in more creative moves in the tagteam beatdown.

Jonathan Wood

What if we bribe the future author so that they send us their chapters the present Author has yet to write early?

IdolTrust

Ben going to physically go to the god realm and pop out, “Guess who is back”

Natalie
