“You know what? I’m just going to say it. I think the meeting earlier went really well.”

“You mean aside from the part where instead of just scaring the gods who tried to let the others get away with their attempted murder, you decided to scare everyone?” Myriad asked him, in good spirits despite everything he’d seen his apostle do before.

“Hey, I made it clear who’s in my good books and who’s not. Just because I am now undeniably more powerful than any of you lot up here doesn’t mean there’s anything for the rest of you to worry about. So long as nobody decides they want me dead again, but honestly, pointing knives at everyone who thought of trying anything seemed to have done a decent job of showing how outclassed they were. I should be fine for a while.”

“And it seems Myriad’s going to be fine forever,” Helori said, giving the cube a side glance and felt just how much more powerful he’d become, having claimed the total available faith of the twenty defeated gods, along with twenty percent of what the coward pantheon had held, with both instantly going towards boosting Myriad to the realm of one of the most powerful among the divine on the planet, losing to only a couple larger gods who’d been hoarding their faith for millennia as they waited for the invasion. “Couldn’t have gotten some of that for me and Nare too?”

“I’m Myriad’s apostle,” Ben shrugged. “And it’s not like Nare is doing badly enough for himself to need it. If you’re feeling tight, try asking Myriad nicely and I’m sure he’ll share.”

“And while that’s all well and good,” Nare spoke up, as happy as either of the other two had been to see Ben alive. “What now? You fairly clearly just asserted your authority. I assume you have some plans in mind?”

“I always have plans,” Ben grinned. “I basically got seven tower blessings out of that, so all things considered, I’m actually feeling great right now, but this was a decent wake-up call that I still need more power-”

“No, you don’t,” Myriad cut in, only to be ignored.

“And frankly, now I’m in a great position to make sure I can grow even more.”

“If you’re thinking I’m going to spend all the faith you just earned me on you, then you have to realize I really do need to invest most of it back into the war effort.”

“Yeah, yeah, I’m sure you do, but assuming we win and I live, then you’ll be earning faith from all of those gods forever. You could at least spend a little on me from time to time when I ask, right?”

“... You asked for all of the defeated gods' faith for the next ten thousand years and twenty percent from the coward gods for as long as you’re alive. What am I missing here that’s going to earn me faith forever?”

“Simple. If my soul isn’t destroyed fighting Oaun and I ascend one day to proper godhood, then as far as I’m concerned, I’m not dead, and I’ll be making those gods continue to pay you. At which point you should be giving approximately half to me, since I’m the one earning it for you.”

The three with him fell silent, realizing they should have expected Ben’s revenge to be of the eternal sort, given his nature, even if it left Helori with a question.

“Then why did you say ten thousand years for the defeated gods?”

“To give them false hope,” Ben shrugged. “If I don’t change my mind about killing them later, then for as long as they’re receiving faith, I don’t want them to enjoy a single drop of it. Attacking me is the sort of mistake I don’t want anyone being foolish enough to make a second time, and this is a decent enough deterrent. Eating them only earned me about a thousand points in any given attribute total, and while it was neat to see that it wasn’t just my mana growing like any time Jagal gave me one of her fruits, it’s not like that’s a big enough motivator to finish them off at this point, but you never know what the future holds.”

“Fine,” Myriad said, as indifferent to those gods' eternal punishments as Ben was, even without the benefits he was going to receive taken into account. “By this point, they should have expected as much from you. What else then?”

“Well, I need you to get in touch with Phixth. We need to arrange my next job, and I’ll need two open spots in the party.”

“Mmm, we’re out of third tiers but I do know you said you might have a way around it. Don’t tell me one of them is going to be Dewdrop?”

“Ding ding ding! Good guess, of course it is.”

Since his resident outsider had a third-tier skill, that meant it would have at least one third tier job option to exploit, so long as he could talk the lazy scrungle into helping, but he was confident enough he’d succeed at that, leaving his god to guess at the second.

“And Valaria, then? You’d said before you want to awaken her. Should I assume my poor priestess is going to be subjected to yet another bout of your ridiculous training?”

“Subjected is a strong word, but she’s not who I have in mind for this run, no. Maybe the next one after, though.”

“Then?”

“A surprise,” Ben grinned. “But trust me, if everything goes well, then you’re going to absolutely love it.”

“You only say I’m going to love things when it’s something that’s going to give me a panic attack.”

“Nah, not only is it going to be great for you, it’s actually going to be good for the world as a whole.”

“Then tell me who you’re going to use and what you’re going to do.”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because then you might try to stop me.”

“Ugh, Ben,” Myriad groaned, already feeling stressed so soon after getting his apostle back. “Why do you have to be like this?”

“Because, unlike so many gods of this world who are happy to waste their faith or let their egos get in the way of using some handy resources, I’m actually pretty focused on the survival of the planet. With everything else going on, I actually made some crazy progress on that front too. That trip to hell was way more beneficial than I would have expected.”

With the way he now understood matter, having experienced it under the power of his combined alien sense, the cost of materializing had been more than cut in half, and when it came to making souls, it went even beyond that. His understanding in that regard was incomparable thanks to being able to observe them in a way he’d never been able to before, looking at the other damned, the ones he would make, and even his own, showing him that there was still more he’d need to test when experimenting with soulcraft, with that being a project for the day itself. As things were, while Thera slept beside him, his body below was continuing on smaller tasks, letting himself take it slightly easier than usual given the weight of the day prior.

“Well, fine,” Myriad told him. “Phixth wasn’t expecting you to be able to keep up with how you’d been helping with different jobs before with all of the known third tiers done, so this will be a welcomed surprise for him. How soon are you looking to start?”

“Ideally? Tomorrow evening. I could tell as I finished up the last one that there’s already a not-insignificant number of people I’m linked to who don’t have any more options left in general. A couple more job runs like the last one and I’ll have the majority of the planet done, with only a few people left who seem to have an unusual amount of options.”

“Like you?”

“I actually don’t have that many options left. If I was benefitting from someone else doing this, I’d probably be done all of mine by now.”

“I more meant the total number of jobs you’ve had.”

“Well, in that case, nobody has as many as me,” Ben grinned. “But a few come close. Depending on how things go, we might get a couple more unlocking the expert job by the time I really run out of options for speeding the world through what they have. Actually, Thera’s really close herself, so that’s something to look forward to as well.”

“Mmh, at this point, it’s just a shock you haven’t managed to unlock an advanced version of that job.”

“Ugh, I wish. With how many I’ve gone through by this point, I can’t imagine how many more I’ll need to do before the system decides I should get something like that again. If expert was unlocked with fifty and I’m currently sitting at more than a hundred, then I’m going to need what? Five hundred? If king and queen jobs are any indication, when the system is rewarding jobs based on quantities, it likes multiples of ten.”

“I don’t think I want to imagine what you’ll be like by the time you’ve unlocked five hundred jobs.”

“Well, as things are, that looks like a ways off yet. I’d need to start branching out into entirely different skill classes since it looks like I’m beginning to tap out of the ones I focus on.”

“You’ve told me before that if we win, you plan on learning everything, and given the way I’ve seen you teach, that looks frighteningly likely. If every non-affinitied magic and every combat skill you’ll learn is going to eventually yield you a job, followed by master branches and whatever those will unlock for you after, plus the fact that you still seem to be getting sacrilege aligned jobs, as well as whatever other stranger ones pop up due to combinations of the skills you have and what you’ve unlocked in the past, and I actually want to stop considering all of this because it’s making me sick.”

“Ha, okay, maybe I’m really not too far off. Still, since the requirement is avoiding my brutal and bloody murder, as well as the survival of the world, I’m nowhere near close enough to getting that for it to benefit me, or to see if I’m even right about getting an advanced version of the job by that point.”

“Please, you’re an absolute menace, and we’re close enough now that the only thing you have to worry about is the next wave. Even if it’s not unlocking an advanced expert job, I fully expect some other bit of nonsense from you in the next few weeks.”

Yay chapter! Side note: when are we gonna hear from Rook? I want a turnip flavored with his despair.

SacredSteel

I like the vote on confidence from Myriad. I would have thought Ben would have started to get tier 4 jobs like the Destroyer of worlds one

Marquess

He might if he releases one of his worse abominations. They don't seem to do much for him title or skill-wise when they're only in his realm.

Thanks for the chapter!

I wonder if they will use the Faith to tier up God’s Boon before the next class level up, maybe even to tier three, Modifier Compatibility should also be levelled up to tier 3 if possible.(and maybe Mythril Blood, and maybe Soul Affinity and Integrated Divine Body if possible). But yeah if nothing Else they should tier up God’s Boon to tier 2(and if tier two is worth it Tier 3).

What use would a t2 gods boon be? I mean, he almost finished the jobs of almost everyone on the planet. Making the skill more efficient would be cool, but not really necessary. I think the skill most worthy of upgrading is soul expansion, as each level in the skill gave him 10% mana and mana regen. T2 will surely give even more. Beyond that divine body would probably also be my pick. I'm not sure the gods can elevate a skill to t3, but if its possible, it should be eternal soul protection. Even thought i would really like modifier compatibility, one of bens greatest fears is the destruction of his soul, and he mentioned as a real risk against oaun. So if a skill needs to reach t3 its that one. Maybe Soul affinity for additional defence in that regard. Mythril blood would be a nice gimmic, but not really necessary. Upgrading that might also level divine body so maybe there is some use in that.

Drayko543

he should still be trapped for another month or 2

Call0013

Yeah Eternal Soul Protection would be a good one, Multiversal Affinity would also be another one to get upgraded to Tier 3 if possible.(Skills that he probably isn’t going to able to get to tier 3 himself but will help in levelling and tiering up skill himself would be what I would priorities like Modifier Compatibility,Soul Affinity, Multiversal Affinity,Etc). Part of the Reason my mind was on Tiering up God’s Boon, Modifier Compatibility, Mythril Blood,Etc to Tier 3 is so they would become domains when he becomes a God.(And he can’t level up or progress them himself). That and them being at least tier two would give them the chance to merge into tier three skills when tiers them up.

On the though of more jobs, i wonder when ben will write himself a permission slip for the forbidden library. Its not like the other gods can really stop him if he wanted to read it now.

Enxes

Is he making a body for the prophecy demon and using it's tier 3 job as an xp sink? Who else would he not want to tell Myriad about?

Ansh Khean

If ben creates a enchantment Factory, for sill Spirit empowerwent, and materializes 100 or so souls for each, since he is constatntly making some, then the spirits can ctart sending expeditions out for innitial worl seeding. I mean Spirit dont need biological appropriate climates, and space spirits can teleport them to nearby planets, seed spirit empowerment orbs say, and one full suit of spitit spreads one by one with each generations, and those world were they are cofertable more sprit empowerment orbs could be sent. the plant and air and other spirits culd make that world barely habitable, for even non terraformer seeded world, and would increase the population of spirits rapidly. Even if not to other worlds, the effect on growth of spirit nubers could climb globally due to that.

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter!

Techy

at this point Ben could actualize giant indesctrictuble blenders at each portal point.

Hellophi

Tyftc, mmm God flesh, tasty

Hellophi

I was unfortunately asleep, I tried to stay up, but the void called to me, and I answered. [ I was sleepy ): ]

Hellophi

Would he write a permission slip, or just... Go in, who's going to stop him, he's the strongest man on the planet, plus a good 20% of the stuff, minimum, he's already figured out.

demure

Well, Ben historically doesnt try to be a dick to people that havent earned it, so i think he would be polite to the librarians -- if only by giving them the paperwork to get out of his way :p

juneboi2

Wasn't he due like one month out? Are we not that close yet?

Emily Gurnavage

TBH, im thinkin it would be a disappointment at this stage, lol. We know a teeeeeny tiny bit about the type of stuff down there - especially heinous curses like petrification, information on creating portals to Hell (which Ben can do even better than the Gods thought possible), and other information that has no or few morally good uses. But with how much magic theory Ben knows and how many subjective millennial he has spent experimenting in his head and realm and even creating simulations of alternate rules to reality, I cant help but assume Ben has already discovered everything down there on his own terms. Maybe theres somethin he hasn't thought of, but it seems like a bit of a longshot. Then again, as you said, nobody can stop him now, so why not? And to stay on Killis good side he can just tell the Gods to force the issue and give him blanket permission. Maybe Ben thinks about it next time he visits Verbum and decides spur of the moment to finish off the library. I dooo expect him to get a job out of it, with how many times its been sort of hinted at.

Emily Gurnavage

I like that Ben's, uh, educational display, did not alienate Helori or Nare. Fear is a powerful thing, breaks friendships all the time. But I like their input a lot. Its also nice to see Myriad mostly not freaking out as much over Ben's antics. He still does a bit, but only over the slightly more reasonable bit where Ben insists on being a drama queen and keeping secrets still as if the Gods and every 3rd Tier combined could actually stop him from doing whatever he has planned next. Telling Myriad would be no threat, unless its morally reprehensible and he doesn't want to hear the complaints. Could have dramatically whispered it into Myriad's "ear" to keep us readers in the dark but inform Myriad. But I suppose its hard to write up a new dynamic at this point as well when its been their "thing" most of the story. At least its improved somewhat.

Emily Gurnavage

Ben definitely promised to bring him out like a month in advance, yea. Ive got noooo idea where we are though, lol. Sometimes we get 10 chapters for 1 single day, and other times we suddenly skip a week or two. I think we are prolly still pretty far away though since everyone didnt start freaking out yet.

Nick

How does he finish everyone’s jobs on the planet again? I forgot… I thought they had to group up around him and start specific parties with one of them having adventurer.

Silverraider05

There is a plinth in the basement. No one knows when it appeared, or where it came from. On the plinth, surrounded by multiple layers of magically strengthened glass is a single thick book, looking too new to have been there for long. Upon the book is lovingly stitched the title, in cheery yellow and flowing script. 'Ben's Big Book of Unethical Spells - By Ben Heph, Forward by the God Myriad'

Napalm078

'The three with him fell silent, realizing they should have expected Ben’s revenge to be of the eternal sort, given his nature, even if it left Helori with a question.' >:) 'the cost of materializing had been more than cut in half, and when it came to making souls, it went even beyond that' Yoooo Thak you for the chapter :D

Sergeandgreen

God's boon allows him to share the experience with anyone he wants. Currently he can share up to 99% of the experience. So when he finishes a t3 job he shares the exp of 99t3 jobs which is enough to finish quite a lot of t1 and t2 jobs.

Sergeandgreen

@cal0013 I get that its tempting for that reason, and he should definitely get them to t2 before ascending. But winning and surviving are the requirements for that to be useful. So he should focus on surviving first. And gods boon doesn't help with that. Even his affinities barely help unless he gets more time, but i guess its unlikely that there will be a fourth wave. Also, even t1 skills increase the abilities of a god. Thats what myriad and helorie mentioned when he got actualization and concemnation. Because he has these skills (even as t1) means he would be better at it than other gods. But if we talk about ascending to godhood, then gods boon would be in my top 3 of skills as well. I think actualization (inlcuding mortal realm actualization) is still a higher priority. And Plane manipulation and rule bender as well. I mean, god's boon makes it so increadibly easy to gather followers but i would value the ability to affect the mortal plane more than "just" sharing or granting exp. Another thing, that ben currently "lacks" is an entertainment skill besides dancing. I think with bens mind he would be a genius when creating music. And considering that he will have an eternity in front of him after ascending, an entertainment skill or two would be quite a boon.

Michigo

Now THAT's a Ben flavored idea Miriad would absolutely hate.

Andrew Nichols

Unless Ben decides to break him out early and exploit him. Nothing said that timer was absolute. He cluld bust him out but be in his realm, so Rook wouldnt first notice the difference. Since he's immortal, wouldn't he be a good backboard(test subject) to bounce some thoughts and ideas(reeeeeealy fucked up shit) off of him?

Huvel

I have to wonder if Ben has tried enchanting his food with flavor enhancement. Like he can enchant a ball of dirt to a rare rarity item so it should be possible. That and it boosts gains for other people when eating him so maybe he can use it to get more stats when eating gods.
