I think I've managed to tame the rendering beast. And it only required three human sacrifices to Adobe - a real bargain.

Alas I couldn't quite get the full quality that I would normally get, but I think I had to compromise a bit in order to have my existing hardware render such a video. Nevertheless, it's still in 1080 resolution, just not quite at the max-quality settings I would typically use. Perhaps it won't matter as much for a video-essay.

Very curious to hear what you think.

03 - Evolution of the DayZ mod: (43 minutes 11 seconds)

A look at the DayZ mod and why it provided such a unique challenge to adapt into a standalone product - https://youtu.be/CXvHRiAwjAE

Let me know if you spot anything that you think might be a whoopsie. I'm sure there's a few knocking around. And thank you sincerely to the 8 people this morning who helped comb through a draft render :)

After the weekend I definitely want to revoice that final 2 minutes of the video. Rework the wording a little bit. It's important to end strong after all, and I felt it was a little flimsy. And certainly stamp out any outstanding hiccups anybody spots.

Have a smashing weekend everyone!

You've really busted your ass making this Soviet. You really should be proud of yourself. I think we all can say this was very worth the wait.

AnAngryCupOfTea

Yeah after this honestly just take a fucking week to recharge. For god's sake I dont think anyone wants you to feel burnout. Have a week, relax, play games, drink! You have certainly earned it.

All the weeks of effort truly show in the product Soviet. Your editing techniques helped paint the picture in ways I don't see from many video essayists. Very much looking forward to seeing more and remember not to overwork yourself. Editors need breaks too.

No weeks to recharge only content!!!!! Gotta keep those twitch goblins who keep asking when the next vid is full

This has really come a long way. I like it :) However, I still found 3 things. :P At 14:56 the capitalization seems a bit odd to me. I would capitalize the "up" instead of the "bottom". But this is not really a big issue. A bit more severe: at 38:00 (ish) the image for The Culling (the see-through part) is partially lying on top of one of the DayZ Server puppets. When it's jumping, a piece of it gets covered. I could mail you a picture of what I mean, if necessary - just let me know. And lastly at 39:10 the transition from the Battle Royale compilation to where you speak again is a bit harsh. Maybe start turning the music down a second or two earlier so that the transition is a bit more smooth? That is all from me. Now enjoy your weekend, get some rest, give Lulu some bellyrubs and I hope your migraine from earlier is better soon <3

Fantastic work! And It really shows why it took the time and so much of your Energy. Totally worth it and I'm really glad you put in the effort. In the current times of squirrel attention spans I sometimes felt like a little breather in between segments would be beneficial for my rotting brain. A little (just one or two seconds) pause between the explanation of single parts of the nine for example would have helped me to process and not have to focus super hard to differentiate them. For brief moments it was a bit perceived as a continuous word soup, before I realized we jumped to another one of the nine. The welcome to the jungle part for example was not only a wonderfully done montage but it also gave a cognitive pause to process you points and words. A bit like the 10 seconds of silence / pause a university professor gives you (by pretending to clean the blackboard) after a segment that is purposely left there to make notes, generate questions and thoughts and connect the dots in your brain. The attention to detail is fantastic and exceptional against most other youtube content and lines up with the level of a Captain D or a CGP Grey level. Speaking of which. After he just started the "Hexagon are Bestagons" cult I couldn't stop hearing Greys words when seeing all the pentagons and searched visually all the time for a small hexagon easter egg with a bee on it. Dam it, Grey. I will never can unsee this! *angrily shakes fist in the air* Very well done, all the compliments and the encouragement to you to do more of them and finish the series. One thing: I heard you talking about your fears about the YouTube audience not perceiving the change of content / format very well. Well you are in a similar situation as what you are talking about. You most likely will not match their expectations of you current audience and you will get mixed feedback for this series. Please Please don't be discouraged by it. The current audience might need time to adopt to it, but eventually they probably mostly will. And even if not I think diversification contributes massively to the longevity of your channel (and your own personal sanity) in the long run. Even if that means to endure short term headwind in form of "meh, when is next bullshittery". There is an audience for this kind of content, but they might not follow you yet. But they will if you continue based on the quality and depth you are providing. "You will catch more fish, if you have several rods in the water". <- I totally made this up. Diversification and evolution is good and healthy. Often when I talk to musicians who had a successful record they fear to change the formula and therefore being stuck creating the same over and over again (and bored to death by their own stuff after a while) or even worse being paralyzed by the fear of changing it. Thinking they need the same level of success or acceptance with the next record. Please don't get caught in the concept of the "potential trap" where you measure the reception of your next work against the extrinsic expectations of former success / content. (Sorry no nativ speaker here, hope this made any sense). And now, please take a well deserved break. And try to enjoy the ride of mixed emotions to come, reading all the YouTube comments. Well done Sir, very well done.

Hey :) I just watched it, really well done! I only found a typo at 00:39 (Galapagos), the rest looks fine. And I really like the slightly different placement of the Big 9, it is lot smoother and easier to follow now :) good job! now go get some sleep :D <3

Tango Alpha Roma Nova

This was fantastic! I enjoyed this greatly, I appreciated the way you explained your view and reasons. I certainly didn’t think of the breakdown like that, it makes a heck of a lot of sense how you put it. I don’t have anything to critique, you have enough of those popping in. But I do like the change of pace with this, it’s a refreshing twist to the Bullshittery madness, though I hope you take the time to look after yourself; “You can’t pour from an empty cup” Thanks again for sharing your talent with the world. Hope you & Lulu get to have some much deserved relaxing and recharge time ✌🏽

Three subjective and minor niggles. 35:46 Very obvious tone change from energetic to robotic for a few sentences. 39:30 Background music is too loud when you're speaking over it. 40:25 Feels like you're enunciating a biiiit too much in the beginning of the segment. Otherwise, I've prolly seen this video 3-4 times including the previous versions and it's just as excellent as the other nine...

Dooly

Wow, just watched it again uninterrupted. That is so organized and I only knew of the game through the bullshittery videos but really nicely packaged and presented! Good essay! (Go finches!)

Alex Kay

Any chance we get the Development stuff back to public? Especially the SCRUM video? It was awesome and I'd love to re-watch it.
