Hi again! Yes, it's true: I posted chapter one here before the prologue. I also wrote chapter one before the prologue, and I generally don't write out of sequence. I dunno. Chapter One came to me first and I was like, "Yeah, do that!" and then I thought, "People probably want a glance at the bigger picture of this book and where it's going," so... here we are!

August was a slower writing month than I hoped for a bunch of reasons. Worldcon took up a whole week, I had some family distractions (nothing bad), and I lost a day to my first shingles vaccine... and they tell me the follow-up shot is rougher, so. Hooray for that. I'm also still feeling my way into this book. PMF 7 currently has this prologue and three full chapters, and in fact chapter two will probably need some ruthless chopping. PMF novels usually come in around 180k words. In total, PMF 7 is currently at 26.5k.

This month's post is kind of short, as prologues generally are. I'm hoping to have something extra and fun for you all in the next day or two. In the meantime, give this a read, and let me know what you think!

And THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PICKED UP DEVIL IN THE DETAILS!

I love that starting blurb. “These people have been through a lot and they really need some help, so let’s be decent. Also, the three biggest kids on the block are watching from across the street, and they have all the cool toys.” With all the talk about reporters, I expected the Runners to go in front of those cameras and publicly say, “We’d like our friend Tanner Malone to come help us.” XD And it blows up across the Union. I’m guessing Brekov is going to make a move on Tanner in this one. Or Amara. Maybe Brekov will just do it to scratch his name off the list (assuming Walters underestimated Brekov's vindictiveness, since Kelly made the list when she showed up on Brekov's radar). Or maybe Amara takes notice that this insignificant nobody keeps coming out of nowhere to spoil major schemes. And not just hers.

1. Thanks! 2. Seems like PMF 7 is off to a good start. 3. Typo? Inventing the premise-> inverting the premise? 4. For all that business owners talk about being long-term or strategic, they seldom mean it to give up something now to avoid a perennial future trouble. 5. And now for something completely different. How was Worldcon?
