Hi all!

My editor has finished PMF 6: No Man's Land, and says no major rewrites are necessary! This is a huge relief for me, as I was concerned about pacing & clarity. We still need to meet, and I need to do another run-through to address her suggestions... and then there's the proofread, which is a different hurdle. But if you're interested in "book progress," this is the point where I have enough info to get the title work done for the cover and pitch the book to Audible.

I am in a HUGE hurry to get this book out, 'cause my bank account is saying NOW NOW NOW. That said, I'm doing the due diligence of getting it RIGHT first... but it'll be out soon! (Also, I imagine the ebook & paperback will be out well before a potential audio version. Unless Audible throws me a huge advance or has new terms & conditions for a simultaneous release, I don't see how I can afford to wait.)

But with main production done, this brings us to the question of "what's next." I almost rambled into this with one of my more recent posts, but realized things were getting long and maybe this should be its own topic. Plus right now I'm still at a speculative stage where everything is "maybe" and I fear anything I say might be misinterpreted as a promise... but hey, this is the Patreon, right?

Anyway, if you're wondering what's my next project, the truth is, I'm not sure yet. I have things in mind and things sort-of started, and also priorities that may or may not be enough to move things to the front-burner.

So, NO PROMISES, but things in contention for the Next Novel after PMF 6:

-Good Intentions 5: This feels like the obvious thing. I take for granted that this has the highest demand. You don't need to tell me it's what you're wanting, or that I should obviously do this, because I KNOW. It's my most-visible thing after PMF, and most likely to sell, and the last one came out in 2020... but this is also the project with the fuzziest and most distant ideas. I can list things I want to do with this book. I have plot points I want to hit. I don't have an actual plot yet. This is also the thing that will take the longest to write, so... yeah. Want to do it, gonna do it, but I don't know if it's "next" yet.

-Wandering Monsters 3: This has the smallest readership of my three series, but I love it and it does have readers. What makes this a likely project is that it's the one thing I can actually outline to its ending. I have a solid idea for the opening. WM books are also shorter, so it'd be faster to write. This means it has a lot going for it... but it would delay bigger things. I'm not sure if I'll jump to this or not. (We'll see how I feel about writing more gamer-oriented sword & sorcery when Baldur's Gate 3 unlocks on my console in a few more hours...)

-Evan's Story: Evan from God on the Run and Celestial Navigation here on the Patreon will have his own novel. This is firmly set in the world of Good Intentions and it will tie in with those stories, but don't expect Alex, Rachel, or Lorelei to show up; this is Evan's own story. I wrote the next chapter over the last couple weeks, and realized last night I need to make a couple significant rewrites, but it's moving along. You will likely see at least chapter 3 on the Patreon before I go dark to write the rest of this book. It seems to be the thing I'm most excited about, and therefore the likely choice.

-PMF 7: The least likely thing. I don't think I want to do back-to-back Tanner books... but I have a solid idea for the next novel and I'm looking forward to it.

-Other Things Entirely: Believe it or not, I have other books besides all these things that I want to write. Right now I need to lean toward the more financially reliable thing, though, and that means leaning on series or series-related stuff.

That's where I'm at, if you're curious. Please take note that there's no poll here; again, I take for granted that a lot of folks here want GI 5. *I* want GI 5. Turns out demand is not the only factor, though... so we'll see where we're going!

Thanks for reading, and as always, thank you SO MUCH for your support! If you're on the story tier, the monthly story should be up in just a little bit!

Thanks! And rewrites of serialised or fixup stories for the "unitary" publication as a novel are pretty much a given, due to the way they were created in the first place.

I love ALL of those ideas. Do them all! (in the order that seems best to you)

You may have to balance your bank account vs your heart. Let your gut decide. Ultimately, doing what you feel strongest about will result in the best product.

I think a few stand alone side novels in GI world or maybe PMF area could do well and act as good extra books for income and might help with your fuzzy ideas. Maybe a whole book about Rachael’s time as a librarian or her break up with Vincent. There are also Molly and Onyx who could have a story that deals more with the sea people and how magic got started in a systematic way. Or for PMF maybe a story from a POW from a ship that got disabled or destroyed that Northstar swore to help but then hung them out to dry. Then the same POW turns pirate and gets distorted tales of Tanner so the go after a bounty put out by Northstar and then double crosses them. Just a thought.

From what I can tell and observe from publishing, spinoff stories are tricky. They will take as much effort to write as a regular story, but you will lose the readers who are there for the main series characters, and have little chance of picking up new readers because they will be turned off by the X series label. That said, I think you can market an Evan Murphy novel not as a tie in or spinoff to GI but as its own story. You will lose the "certain" GI market (though my impression is that the GI readership is more engaged with the series and its world than the PMF readership, even if PMF enjoys a larger market), but you will gain the chance to reach new readers who might start picking up on your backlist too. But it's still more of a gamble than writing PMF 7, WM 3, or GI 5. I also don't know if your ideas for Evan Murphy will fit with aiming for the YA market or something similar.

It is always entertaining to watch GI books set off the Harem community. Those guys have REALLY rigid parameters for what they tolerate.

I have been made aware of a "harem lit" subreddit where rule #1 is "We don't talk about Good Intentions." I'm so incredibly proud.

I'd rather have a solid plot and quality...everything...out of Good Intentions. Wouldn't mind the short story route involving characters other than the main three. Do what you need to do with all of your titles. It's all good.
