I WAS AT THE SHOW!!! 1989 is my favourite album and my brain just stopped working when Taylor went to surprise songs section 😂 I was singing every word to say don’t go having no idea what is that song until she litetally said those words 😂😂 and then she started singing MY FAVOURITE TRACK ON 1989 - CLEAN!!! New York could be symbolic of America, signifying the end of her time with the London boys. And now "10 months" later, she's genuinely happier than ever and "finally clean." 🩵

I like the idea of the breakdowns being out of order. TTPD's chronology doesn't seem to play a huge role in the overall "storyline" of the album, in my opinion. The only thing I've really noticed about the track list is that Clara Bow + the 4 variant's bonus tracks could be seen as alternate endings to the album, which seems to line up with the fact that each one was added to different one of the "stages of heartbreak" playlists. Kind of like a depressing choose your own adventure 😅

I was thinking about the error code that we deciphered and how one thing that came from it was a 'red herring' which means 'a misleading clue'. So her naming the album 'TTPD' knowing full well that Joe mentioned his chat group name (The Tortued Man club) during that conversation would cause us to believe that this album would be about Joe. And therefore misleading us. It caught everyone by surprise. But in hindsight it makes so much sense!!! It's so interesting. She's a mastermind🤯

Inspired by the creative transition from Say Don't Go to WTNY: This is crazy, but the last few years beginning with folklore but growing ever since, just gives me the impression of a woman who is no longer trying to hide her talent, but fully leaning into it. it is crazy to think that someone could make a monster like 1989 while consciously holding herself back from her full powers, but I think she did. This could make for an interesting interview question. I haven't listened to this album on shuffle, but on every listen certain songs stick out to me more than others and I start making connections that didn't exist before. Like in my second listen I really fathomed The Alchemy and The Prophecy. So, it makes complete sense to me to jump around the album for the breakdown! Also, I love that you do these Reacts and Chats for the Eras tour! It's a nice little extra fathoming on top of us all collectively losing our minds at Taylor's secret song genius! Plus, if something absolutely illegal happens then I trust we'll hear your perspective in either a little extra video here or in the Chats section of the secret song reaction! You gals are doing great and thanks for waking up extra early to do these reactions! What a crazy night of surprise songs! She’s just being creative and doing what feels right to her. I absolutely agree about Jack and Aaron. As personal as these last 2 albums were, she wasn’t going to a new producer. She needed Jack to talk to and create with. Aaron put some of the most beautiful work he’s ever done on this album. This album is so deep, so layered and personal. It is her best writing. Anyway, lol I could write pages 😆 I love getting these eras tour videos, so if that’s what you’re concentrating on, it’s perfect. If you need to combine some shows into one video, that’s ok too. We understand you don’t live in the same town and the time and effort to be together when reacting isn’t easy. I have never once felt like I wasn’t getting superior content on here, so whatever you decide to do is great. I like the idea of breaking down the songs out of order too. I’m glad you both are fathoming the Black Dog, and Chloe & the gang lol I don’t think the songs sound the same either- I don’t get that criticism.

the rage of TTPD and hurt from Matty is actually so relatable given they’d known each other for years and it was probably one of those “will they won’t they” situations. I think so many people can relate to the whirlwind of someone offering you so many good things and them making you feel amazing just for it to switch up so quickly. The idea of this perfect match not holding up because of self sabotaging behaviour. It’s more interesting to listen to rather than a 6 year long relationship that probably ended in Taylor’s mind long before they broke up. There’s no need to pin every song she’s written to a certain person but the themes of TTPD overall are for sure giving Matty over Joe! Plus her relationship to her fans and the wider music industry. deeply concerning !!!

I am all for TTPD fathomings in random order, do whatever you guys are comfy with! Perhaps you could just consider the order of the song during a fathoming (like how The Alchemy comes after all the mess about her breakups) but imo there's no need to follow the album order, as you said some songs you'd be able to fathom faster than others.

I think going out of order with breakdowns would be so fun! Taylor herself is masterful at using non-linear chronology in order to tell a story, allowing you to pick up pieces along the way and reorder things in hindsight (a good example is her saying “could’ve been, would’ve been, should’ve been you” in BTTWS before we listen to WCS on the Midnights tracklist and then coming in with more war and tomb imagery in WCS, creating a trilogy in reverse with TGW/BTTWS/WCS). TTPD is a masterclass in this non-linear story progression, and I think breaking down songs out of traditional tracklist order would be such a fun testament to that!

Guyssss loved your rant about the production like I don’t understand why people are complaining like of course albums are going to have similar sounds because it’s carrying a theme throughout but nothing sounds identical and each album sounds completely different and it’s so offensive they have so much creativity and talent to come up with all these different sounds!! I would fully support you pulling a Taylor and choosing whichever song you wanted to breakdown in the upcoming weeks just like she does for the secret songs. It would be a lot of fun! Like you said, with 31 songs, the fathomings all come on different timelines. I have noticed with TTPD songs, there are so many references to other lyrics in her discography so you could discuss how each "mashes up" with others in her discography. Or perhaps alternate between main album and Anthology like Taylor does between guitar and piano. Just ideas... no pressure. I have full confidence your breakdowns will be offensive however you do them. 🤗

I forgot to mention in my comment above- I saw a video by a musician that was listening to TTPD. I think it was Who’s Afraid but not positive. Anyway, he didn’t know anything because he’s not a Swiftie- he loved the song and kept stopping to discuss things. He said there was some superb producing going on here. The way the music was layered was not easy to do and he explained why in the video. He ended by saying, I don’t know who produced this, but they have really done something here. That would be Mr. Jack A. 😊 so someone unbiased could see his talent and that was cool.

After past album releases, when that moment inevitably came when I knew every song backwards and they stopped feeling fresh and new to me and I wanted to listen to her old albums again, I would always feel a little sad because there would be a long wait for new songs again. I already assumed that now through July the Patreon videos would be the secret song reactions due the number of shows over that timeframe. I love these videos and the chats afterwards they are some of my favorites . I love the idea of breaking down the songs out of order absolutely you should be doing them only once you feel you’ve fully fathomed a song. Also, I could not agree more with you guys about the Jack topic. I don’t get why there’s this expectation that Taylor has to dramatically change her sound and style for every album. Has she blessed us in the past by doing so on some albums yes but should it be an expectation no. The general public doesn’t do this with other artist so why Taylor and Taylor and Jack specifically. Her last three albums of evermore, midnights and tortured poets sound nothing alike. And I don’t understand how anybody could argue that they do. Are there songs on tortured poets that remind me of songs from Taylor’s previous albums yes. I think that was purposeful. I think there are parallels both sonically and lyrically on that entire album to her entire discography.

The reason people criticize Jack is bc that music is perfect. It is called “ prevalence-induced concept change“ or problem-creep. I was astonished that there were songs about Matt on this album, and then floored with the amount of them. I wasn’t keen on that initially but I’m actually relieved now. When the track listing was released, I saw so much vitriol from people going for the jugular for Joe—just from song titles! I was thrilled that the postulating was shown to be premature and unwarranted. But this is the thought the causes me pause… Is it plausible that Matt’s relationship with Taylor (and its outcome) were deliberately orchestrated by him so he would be immortalized in her discography and lore? With regards to Matty and Jack being friends, I could see why Jack would avoid Matty. Jack saw Taylor spiral with his own eyes. Jack saw the physical toll and saw her at one of her lowest moments. Taylor probably told Jack things that no one else knows. Taylor says most of what she experienced was self-inflicted, but Matty's actions are no way Taylor's fault. Here is another case of a man trying to groom Taylor, this time for 10 years.

Bonnie and Emily, I really appreciate your attitude with regard to 31 new songs. Many music reactors bitched and complained about there being so many songs. Because they wanted to get their reactions and content out into the world so quickly, they felt rushed and frustrated with the music, and it was heard in their reactions. They complained that they had to work. No one forced them to listen to all 31 songs in one sitting. They could have waited a day, like you did, to listen to The Anthology. Because they are competing with you, Chats & Reacts, their reactions included moments of criticism and incomplete thoughts. They claimed to be experts in Taylor's music, listened to 31 songs in one day, and tried to decode them all at once, which is not possible. They know this, but they did it anyway. This is why you are the best, in my opinion. You don't rush because you respect Taylor's music and can admit when you got it wrong. Love you gals so much. Thanks for all you do.

I would love to know more of your thoughts about The Alchemy/ Travis connection? When I first heard it I immediately thought Matty/ the heroin line and then I heard the football references and I did get a bit confused as to who the song was about because to me it’s not a love song, alchemy is fake, and it’s about getting back with someone you’ve been away from “the sign on your heart says it’s still reserved for me.” Wondering if you’ve seen these creators theories on it. I now do think it is truly a Matty song. Taylor has had “sport” themed songs before as a metaphor/ End Game (which could now given more context also be about Matty in hindsight). I am still under the thinking that most of the songs (excluding Travis ones and ones about herself) are not just specific to Matty or Joe. I think most are a combination of the both of them. I know deui moi is gross but she had an “insider” before the album come out saying “fans are gonna be surprised when they see there’s more matty than they think” which ended up being true. After the album came out the same insider came back and said “fans that think all songs are about matty alone are wrong, most songs are a combination of matty and Joe”. So as much as I hate her I do agree but one the insider was right about the first part and second thats also what I hear when I listen to the songs. Just thoughts 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think there’s actually a lot of Joe stuff on this album, but I really think some of the songs are purposefully ambiguous. And sometimes like in Fresh Out the Slammer, she really spills the Joe tea. There’s many references to him cheating, but I just think that wasn’t their biggest issue, like some people think about cheating. I feel like Jack is the anchor that keeps Taylor from spiraling out of control. We see so much in history about the madness that descends on artists because of what's kept inside, and even Taylor herself has talked about the dips into alcoholism and eating disorders and the like, and now with Jack in the picture, he enables her to get all of that out into the music without judgement or "fixing it".

What I've fathomed from the difference in the way she talks about Joe and Matty on TTPD is that they both hurt her in the same way: promised to love her forever no matter what, that she was the love of their life, promised over and over to give her marriage and children, anything and everything she'd ever wanted - but neither of them did. But the difference between them is that I don't think she believes Joe did it on purpose, he didn't hurt her or wreck those plans on purpose, it just happened and things didn't work out. She's still mad, but she doesn't hate his guts. With Matty, I fully believe she thinks he hurt her on purpose, her her maliciously in the way he knew would hurt her the most, and he did all of it in the most "alien abduction" speed run, then just ghosted her leaving her bewildered and lost and crash landed in the worst way. The Bolter tells us she always felt like she HAD to be the one to leave first to protect herself, she did it with Joe too after all that time in the last however long she was with him that she'd been fighting the urge to bolt, but Matty even took THAT from her despite definitely knowing that it would be like grinding salt and vinegar into the wounds from breaking up with Joe on top of everything else Matty did by promising her everything and then breaking that promise and just vanishing. So I do think that while she might not ever want to speak to Joe again, I definitely think she despises Matty far, far more.

I do think there are a lot of football references which is just too on the nose for Taylor, she wants us to read into her lyrics and break them down to get to what she’s really telling us. It is the tortured poets department, the songs are poetry they are more than face value, they are metaphorical, it would seem like really lazy writing to me from her if the song was just to be taken at face value. It’s meant for us to look into it and break it down. I think that’s the point of all her music, particularly this album. The “blokes” yes I was at first confused about that as well. But it’s literally just her using a British term because she’s singing to a British man. And I honestly think she obviously is very hurt by whatever Matty has done but to take a jab at his heroin addition I think would be way too much of a low blow for her to throw at him, I don’t think she would do that. Also, the timeline doesn’t add up for this song to be about Travis, think about how long in advance she had to submit her album before production can start for vinyls to be make, etc. And we had the track list weeks before the superbowl so she is certainly not referencing that in “where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me”.

I totally understand and agree with you to some extent about Taylor’s and Jack’s relationship and creative collaboration. I also agree and have debated at large with friends about the silliness of criticizing Taylor for “her music sounding the same” when literally it DOESN’T, her music has that Taylor Swift quality sure, BUT every other good artist out there has their own sound (the ones you cited and so many others). HOWEVER, for me the issue is not that “the production sounds the same”. I love many of Jack’s produced songs, but I feel like Taylor – as an artist and most importantly a songwriter – needs to be challenged creatively as she wants to hone her craft. I totally agree that with TTPD and The Anthology, she needed to be in a safe space to push and write such vulnerable lyrics. My point is that I feel like with the creative collaborations she has right now, it seems to me that no one really is there to challenge her creatively in the sense that yes, they will enable her ideas and lyrics, but it’s very apparent to me on TTPD/The Anthology, there are many instances where she could and maybe should have edited more, in terms of lyrics and melodies specifically. Some do not work musically or structurally (a few very wordy lyrics that sure, are BEAUTIFUL on paper as Poems but sonically sometimes are a bit rough). I say this as someone who thinks this is her best body of work hands down and my favorite album now. I am just trying to bring constructive criticism here. In my opinion, she needs to introduce new collaborators (not change all her collaborators, she can still work with Jack and Aaron! They’re amazing!) to have an “external” perspective to stay creative. I see it more like bringing someone to be an editor to her writing. To me it’s about final touches to a great manuscript, icing on the cake. It’s not the full work, but it’s necessary work in my opinion, and a role that is currently missing in her creative team. I feel that's what Liz Rose helped with on some of her previous songs on older albums, and think it's a great asset to have.

Re: Jack. I was looking through my rep cd booklet yesterday and many of the songs on it are Jack and Taylor as co-writers with no one else. Yes, Shellback and MM worked on majority of it, but it was Jack+Taylor on CIWYW, Getaway Car, Dress, TISWCHNT, and NYD, so 1/3 of the album. I will defend Jack forever. Then she has been on tour for 2 years, which is quite long and also enough I think. I actually don't know any artists besides Coldplay that have been on tour longer than 2 years. Nothing about The Alchemy points to it being about Matty. She literally starts off by once again referring to him as a medical emergency like she does in the summary poem. Matty is the "cardiac arrest" she's coming back from, coming back to her normal self after the manic episode. The "circled you on a map" is an obvious reference to the tiktok trend of women telling men that Taylor put him on the map. Literally her sticking up for her man by saying he was already on the map she just brought more attention to him. the "blokes warm the bench" line referring to Joe and Matty not being good enough is also obvious. "sign on your heart says its still reserved for me" is about fate and how theres someone out there for everyone just waiting to eventually meet them. Taylor is also aware that Travis has been crushing on her for almost a decade. the "childs play" is the stuff that got brought up after they went public. Him getting suspended from his college for smoking weed, the tweets gaylors dug up trying to get him canceled both from when he was 19-20 years old. the "heroine but this time with an e" is Travis saying literally or through similar words that she is his drug unlike the old bloke. And if you think Taylor wouldn't put a reference to Mattys drug use in a song, well she literally writes multiple times about his drug use on this album when everyone claims Matty has been sober for years. Its obvious to anyone whos been around drug users that its not true but she confirmed it. You can think its fucked up but it won't change the fact she sings about it. And the vinyls argument is irrelevant because vinyls take 4-6 months to press so sometime in Oct to Dec is when she finalized the standard album which is more then enough time for her to write about the beginning of the relationship. Which makes sense since the song is about allowing herself to love and be loved even when she's scared to because of the trauma Joe and Matty caused her. She connected it to Treacherous because its a similar topic. The obsession Matty fans have with making every song on the album and Taylors discography about matty needs to be studied because its a another form of the delusion gaylors have.

I agree. Though, with most situations I've been in, my feelings about the person may change from day to day. I think we hold a lot of nuanced feelings about a person inside us, some of which might be contradictory. I have a feeling that Taylor has days where the overarching feeling she has toward Joe is of the 'in the end, it just wasn't right' mentality and that she also has days where the overarching feeling she has toward Joe is being pissed off and reliving the worst parts of the relationship. I'm sure her feelings toward Matty are nuanced too, but I have a feeling they're mostly in shades of anger at the moment. Whereas, I think she probably has space to hold both good and bad feelings toward Joe. Definitely not a 'no harm, no foul' situation. . . just a situation that's complex.

I get the feeling that Justin tries to curate his fame. It seems like he's grateful for the success he's had but really wants to be able to live a normal life (he lives in a random town in Wisconsin). He was into the artistic collaboration with Taylor on folkmore/big red machine, but he wore a lot to cover up his face in Long Pond--I think so that people who didn't already know what he looks like would have to go out of their way and google search him if they wanted to find out. Taylor performed at his show in 2022, but that may have felt more contained since it was for a crowd of his fans (he also isn't super well-lit in the videos from that performance, which may have been intentional). Maybe performing at Eras feels like more exposure than he wants? If it is the case that 'Joe got custody' (lol) I'm grateful we got the 2022 exile performance before they broke up.

In my mind it is very clearly a Matty song, I can see the points you are making, but to me Travis doesn't seem like a "tortured poet" wouldn't really make sense for a song about him to be on the original album because she's telling a story about said "tortured poets". It makes sense that So High School is on the Anthology, an anthology series is different stories/ characters in each episode. Also, the "this happens once every few lifetimes" immediately made me think of Cardigan "Your heartbeat on the highline, once in 20 lifetimes". Taylor told us that Cardigan is about Matty on tour last year. Yeah, the lyrics to me just seem more like you're getting back with someone you have had a connection with in the past.

Bonny is right about Jack getting a lot of criticism for his work with Lana too. But unlike Taylor people actually want Lana to go back to her older producer rather than working with new people... I love Jack's work with Taylor, Lana, Lorde obviously but I do think while still woking with Jack, Taylor could expand and add new producers kinda like what Lana did on Ocean Blvd keeping Jack while also working with new people bcs sometimes having an external/new perspective can be helpful to push you somewhere new.

I don’t know if anyone’s said this but the reason the shows in Sweden started so early is because Friends Arena is in a residential area, like there are apartment buildings right next to it, and there are regulations that say that events have to end before 11 PM because it’s a residential area!! I learned this the hard way though because I left my friends on the floor to go to the bathroom thinking I had plenty of time but missed the start of the show 😂 people eventually let me back in to my friends though

Honestly I genuinely think that a huge part of this album was her realisation that Ratty just didn't live up to not only the idea of him she'd built up over the years in general but the idea he had, in a way, gaslit her into believing existed. Like I really believe had he not jumped ship like the coward he is but everything else had been the same, she would have broken up with him after not very long anyway 🫣 because there is so much on this album that leans into I built him up in my head, I longed for what I couldn't have, especially when my current relationship was beyond dead, but when I got him it wasn't at all what imagined. I see this heavily in I can fix him, I really sense her actually feeling embarrassed because she could brush of the online haters but she couldn't brush of the looks ect she got from people around her... he was performing for her to win her over when they were alone or at a distance to keep her interested but as soon as they were actually together the act very quickly dropped and low key but I feel like guilty as Sin suggests he didn't live up to MANY expectations 💀💀 SORRYYYYYY (not sorry)

Jack is literally the most diverse, soulmate of a friend and producer who fathoms Taylor creative mind in a way that no one else (except maybe Aaron) can and it all sounds DIFFERENT every album. They all have their own unique sounds and even different genres sometimes and Jack just goes with the flow and matches Taylor where she is. I had an actual nightmare a couple weeks ago that Taylor released a new album WITHOUT Jack or Aaron on it and I was having an actual mental breakdown that woke me up out of a deep sleep. Anyway, I hope they continue to collaborate forever as well as working with others as well. Basically, I trust Taylor to convey her story in the best way that she chooses and I have loved everything up until this point so I am sure I will forever because she’s Taylor Swift.
