A new lil 1989 series for you besties!!! We have NEVER fathomed all the guests that Taylor had on her tour and NOW IS THE TIME for us to fathom!

We will be doing this over several parts because there is simply so many performances to react to. This was so much fun as a little music throwback to 2015, having a fathom of who was relevant and it was interesting to see the conversations it sparked!

Am I going to have to defend the American pronunciation of herb like on the other video? Lol long story short it’s based on the Old French spelling/pronunciation, the h was added on when scholars were trying to standardize things to Latin spellings during the renaissance(?) (I might be making that part up, I know it had something to do with lining things up with Latin), and it still wasn’t until the 18somethings when the British started actually pronouncing it. And we most likely kept with the original because we were already doing our own thing over here (colonizing, being awful) and wouldn’t be up to date with the language trends back in England.

Just wanted to throw my two cents in about the backlash you recently got about paywalled content. Regardless of how anyone felt, the way they came down on you like a ton of bricks wasn't fair and some people were being unnecessarily mean. I hope you guys don't feel bullied or pressured into putting extra things up on YouTube. Perhaps a way you could keep people more placated is by doing more reels/shorts of odd parts of some of your Patreon videos; this might help to promote it and show what's available and give people something to experience without giving too much away. Adding Patreon snippets in your YouTube videos works as well and I will say that the entire reason I joined your Patreon was because you added a clip of your live reaction to the TTPD announcement in your follow up video and I wanted to see more. I think you're doing great and I've been here to stay for about 18 months now

I was in the audience for the Imagine Dragons surprise appearance in Detroit! My cousin and I were in pit!! It was the best / closest I've ever been for a Taylor show! So many amazing moments that night. I'll never forget being able to look Taylor in the eyes a couple times during the show and it felt magical!! :)

The Weeknd is really so iconic! He was decently popular before this, huge underground up and comer vibes. He was making a lot of noise with his 3 album trilogy in the rap/rnb world, in the early 2010s. Made a slight pop change with Aris Love Me Harder and sort of became a Max Martin kid alongside Taylor and Ari! Him and Taylors link up inevitable. Americans often pronounce words more closely to the original French. guh-RAZH. muh-SAZH. fill-AY. Brits (and British-adjacent commonwealth folk) only began incorrectly pronouncing the h when working classes kept getting pulled up on dropping the h everywhere. Think of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady practicing “in Hertford, Hereford, or Hampshire hurricanes hardly ever happen”. The point was, in her cockney accent, she would have dropped all those ‘h’-es. But, the lower classes over corrected and decided to stick them in wherever they saw them. Hotel should be ‘otel. Herbal remained “erbal” in the States, but the incorrect h proliferated into British society and beyond. Heir, honest, hour, honour… I think we’re all in the same page with those.

lol Ed is so chill he definitely didn't have a crush on taylor, i think they bonded over having very similar mindsets about work and the industry. ed knew how good he was and worked hard (he literally wrote 'you need me, i don't need you' before his big break) the man knew. also before the RED tour, Ed was pretty big in the UK, so i'd say it pushed his career more in the US but in the UK his first album was huge, especially the A team. i feel like there's a lot to credit taylor for in the industry, but not Ed's career <3 idk why i feel so strongly about defending Ed lol, i just think he worked really hard for everything and has stayed humble, much like taylor 🤍

This is such a fun concept, I'm glad it's going to be a little series! If I can offer some constructive criticism though, it felt a little bit like you were tearing down a lot of the guests. Totally fine if their music isn't for you, but I think we (myself included) can all take a lot from Taylor's ability to always be a hype woman and find the good in an artist. I can only imagine how intimidating it would be to walk onto someone else's stage and perform--especially Taylor Swift's. Just some food for thought! I will say, as one of Imagine Dragons’s biggest fans (which feels funny to say here), Dan Reynolds’s stage presence is kinda yin and yang from Taylor’s. His is all about dancing and vibing to the music, Taylor’s is about the fans. Not that Dan doesn’t acknowledge fans; he’ll even grab little funny hats fans are holding up and put them on (at my show last year someone gave him a hat with a shark’s jaw “eating” the head of who wears it while he performed Sharks). But, the dancing is the focus for him. When it comes to the music, the singles don’t do the justice of how incredible Dan’s songwriting is. Because of the way they’re perceived in the media and loved because of their singles, they only perform those, but there are so many songs in their first EPs before their first album that are genuinely offensive. I completely understand the reaction to Imagine Dragons being on the 1989 World Tour though. It’s a very random combo even though I love both Taylor and ID’s music soooo much

the thing about imagine dragons…. watching them live is Something Else actually. i was at a “surprise” benefit concert one time so you don’t know who’s performing & they were the headliners and it was honestly actually soooo good. and i don’t listen to imagine dragons like i knew the hits that’s it. but the entire set they did was honestly electric!!! does not translate at all the same in the recordings

Hi, female girl here, so i used to LOVE Imagine Dragons! Like in this era we’re watching in this video I loved them way more than I did Taylor. Their first two albums I feel were very good and more interesting but then with their third album they made a clear shift towards pop-rock that’s bland and without emotion or soul in it. It came out in 2017 and it’s the album that has Believer and Thunder on it, and that’s what I would say rocketed them into super stadium tour-stardom (i absolutely despise those songs btw 🥲) When I liked them I think their demographic was very mixed, most of my friends who liked them were also girls and nerdy like me. I would say that their demographic now is just basic straight guys who don’t really care about the music they listen to in the way we do. Okay thanks for coming to my ted talk love you byeeeeeeee

Not the Rachel Platten slander! LOL I'm only kidding, she isn't very well known now, but she's a songwriter and she has an amazing voice. She had a new album last year and another one is coming out soon. She's only gotten better IMO, but she's not super popular, she's way more niche. She wrote Fight Song when she was about to give up on her music. She'd been working in the industry for 10 years, and nothing was happening for her. She wrote that one song as a "give up" song, but trying to power through. And it became her one bit hit, which is wild for me. She did have a few singles off of her next album, but nothing was ever as big as that one song. "Stand by You" and "Better Place" are my favorite songs of hers.

This!!! I love Night Visions and Smoke + Mirrors. I fell off during evolve, i can’t stand the big hits from that era. These days, every time they release a new album i give it a spin and usually find a couple ones that i like. I haven’t seen them live since the Smoke + Mirrors tour though and that night was pure magic.

I had forgotten a view of them 😅 Rachel Platten? I only know this one song of hers. But funny side note, just a view weeks ago I read that Rachel Platten announced a new album with here own "Rachel's Verions" on it. She said she was so inspired by Taylor showing that it's possible to own your work as an artist. When I read that announcement I asked my self "who even is this woman, do I know a song of hers, and than I read, it includes fight song and I was like oh it's that one, now I remember" 🤦‍♀️😂I love Imagine Dragons. I think they have really great and catchy melodies in their songs. Also they're seem so nice, appealing, grounded and authentic. I was on a concert of them this year and I really enjoyed it. You really get a feeling of "we are a band, this is a concert of a group of long friends who became family, we're here to play music because we love it and we want that every one here has a great time". Also their very good live. There was a moment when the guitar player did a 5 min solo on his e-guitar and I almost had a breakdown because of it. You could see that he was really feeling this right now. Pure music. And you wanted to scream "yes man rock this guitar and have some fun with it". And they have their fanbase. Their singles are constantly playing on the radio here in Germany. The new and the old. You can really tell that they love making music and being on stage. I had a great time at there concert. Of course, they're not as famous and on top of the world as Taylor, but to be fair, who is though. No one reaches that. There are so many great artist and bands out there who are at a "normal" level of fame. They have their niche and fanbase and making music because they love it, because that's what they want to do in their lives. And not everyone is for everyone. And I find it very impressive that Imagine Dragons are still making music and being recognized by award shows these days.

Imagine Dragons are technically a rock band and they actually have been doing great!! They have at least one huge hit per album 😄 But if you girlies aren’t interested in a gritty sound it makes sense that you haven’t heard of their recent work. I don’t know Rachel’s story, but I do often wonder when an artist is having a cultural moment and then disappears if that disappearance is do to a lack of artist creativity in that moment or due to a label pigeonholing them or inhibiting their growth, etc. I think we all know now that career trajectory is not always up to an artist due to contracts and a label’s behind the scenes priorities, etc.

Regarding Fight Song, I think Emily might be feeling like some self-empowerment songs can come across as the artist picking low-hanging fruit. Like it's much easier to get people on board if your song is an overly generalized hype song that doesn't seem to reflect on a specific obstacle the narrator has overcome. A song equivalent of 'you got this' isn't going to appeal as strongly to those of us who want to connect more with the story being told through the lyrics.

I had been a doormat/caretaker for my dysfunctional family since age 10 and was finally building healthy boundaries and standing my ground. They were also one of my favourite bands around 2013-16! I did however also really like the Mercury albums from the newer stuff, as much of it felt so personal. I saw them once at a festival, which was honestly great (except that I had a fever and was sick…) so me and my friend (both girlies) went to see them live in June this year! It was fun, but it was probably the most male-dominated audience I’ve ever been in 😆 maybe along with Muse. Maybe it’s a rock band thing lol.
