Some lore on Greg: he's a very well known presenter over here, he has a great rapport with his guests similarly to Graham Norton. He has done multiple interviews with Taylor over the years including a car-eoke with her singing Blank Space. He also used to go out with Ellie Goulding in the 2010s, so perhaps another link to Taylor there. Back in the day when Taylor followed a select few people on instagram, Greg was one of them. I love that this interview had an element of catching up with an old friend compared to the other uk radio interviews that were more surface level. I think with the US president and his follower's "dissing" Taylor has created an especially volatile situation. Yet it really is just a small number of people who are being so negative. They just seem like a lot because they are bot driven. Get in the wrong algorithm and it seems like you are under assault. Social media is an echo chamber. It gives you a distorted sense of reality. And you often aren't even hearing from a real person...it's just a bot or troll (out for clicks) or a troll farmer (paid troller). But the album sales and streams tell the actual story. The album is a MONSTER HIT.

The social media platforms are largely bot driven and negative. But the true Swifties have largely kept the trolls in check, countering with enough positive posts to prevent negative meme's from trending and also sales and streams have been out of all expectation. It's a wonderful album.

Stopping in the middle, but regarding Tay's future of touring, I wonder if she would maybe be open to something like Ed Sheeran did with his mathematics tour. As he was going through it, he was putting out albums and adding some songs to the set, removing others from it etc. Let's say she tours TLOAS, like she did with albums prior to the pandemic, but then writes and puts out another album and just swaps some songs on the tour to make place for the new ones. I think she tried it out when she added TTPD to the Eras setlist and could just do that on a smaller scale going forward.

I can’t even fathom the hate for the album- I try to stay away from that ridiculous frenzy. My opinion, but I liked it at first listen and became obsessed by the second and subsequent listens. I feel like the additional narratives regarding the album “undertones” are so wild and removed from the reality of her writing and intentions, that the hatred has become dangerous. It’s ok if it’s not your #1 album in her discography, but to say that it’s terrible music, terrible writing, etc is actually insane and seems to come from a place where you aren’t rooted in any nutritive value as a “fan.” So. Personally I think Taylor might do what Kendrick Lamar did with his LA Pop Out show. He did one show for one night in LA, but the concert was live streamed by Amazon Music so anyone could see it. Noah Kahan did something similar with his show at Fenway Park. It would allow everyone who wants to see her show to get to see it, but it’s not a tour so it wouldn’t be exhausting

I was thinking about how maybe there’s something to not telling anyone you’re gonna drop an a Album because then there’s no expectation. I’ve said it before, bots and paid trolls are used to magnify that which tears down because the success of industries and specific individuals depend on her failure. That’s sad. It doesn’t mean criticism or not vibing with the album isn’t authentic. It’s just to say the volume and sheer quantity is not real. It feels real, but like other hate, don’t buy into it. Different audiences want to hear different sounds, and that’s okay. Just don’t buy into the withering hate that is ramped up for profit or calculated destruction.

Thank god for this safe space. I’ve come up for air and there’s so much harsh out there. Looks like it’s not going to be a critics’ darling but my biggest surprise is the fans. I think the main problem with fans is they had a picture of what this album would be, and it doesn’t fit that. To that I say: expectations tend to lead to disappointment. I embrace Taylor’s right to experiment and try new things. And I personally am happy with the result and am singing along.

I’ve been thinking the exact same thing. I’ve seen countless videos of people addressing the negativity, but I’ve yet to see any videos of people actually saying the hateful things. The closest I’ve seen is creators addressing comments that “people” have left on their videos, which may or may not be an authentic opinion or even a real person. It makes me think that the hate isn’t actually that authentic and people are doing what they always do and hating on Taylor just to be a “pick me” or seem relevant or they’re just rage baiting for clicks. 🙄 It’s either that or I have the most perfectly curated FYP on TikTok. 😂

Yeah. I’m enjoying it on Patreon. I spend no time on platforms beside YouTube and Patreon right now given the ramping up of negativity that is manufactured. I agree that critical reception is important and anyone that doesn’t vibe, go with your god. Great. But the volume is bigger because of the Internet being bigger and her being the biggest out there. However, this is very much what Reputation felt like other than the way that polarization of communities is fed to the extreme now. Sad. Thank god we have a superior album to listen to with no skips. When listening closely, I think you can hear the bell chime instrument during the chorus which gives it a subtle but very distinct Christmas vibe. I so want to enjoy the verses, and the chorus because that bridge lyrically, the melody, the sounds in it are some of the best she’s ever written. The whole songs melodies are offensive, the piano is gorgeous. But I agree with the b/savage lyric (love the tempo/melody connection with white horse of course) and the first verse especially lyrically. Maybe one day I’ll have listened enough and it’ll rise for me.

The fact that you are able to fathom Taylor and her lyrics immediately is why I am such a fan of you and your channel. It's like you understand Taylor so well implicitly that it helps me to understand her and her perspective better. Other channels also do great Taylor analysis, but it is very influenced by what they want as a fan, or it turns a bit judgmental or cynical. Regarding the “47” Taylor mentions on the New Heights podcast, I think between when the podcast aired and when she announced the 6 part Eras Tour documentary is about 47 days. Typically, the New Heights podcast is shown on a Wednesday. Taylor actually appeared on Tuesday, August 26 which is unusual. It might be that the podcast was moved up unexpectedly one day. To me, it seemed like she had a list of Easter eggs she & Travis were going to mention during the filming of the podcast. Travis doesn’t have that much of a poker face. You could tell by his expression when there was a hint of something significant.
