On an unrelated note, wanted to see if any of you have seen the posts coming out showing that the excessive hate happening online seem to be from bot accounts that are tweeting the same exact hate messages at the same time and flooding the social media apps? People are speculating that someone has manufactured and paid people to spread hate on taylor and this album… so sickening. They are so threatened by her success after the eras tour and gaining her masters back. Whoever it is, their plan is failing miserably.

Ok, pausing to interject with a viewing suggestion. Total comedy if you can find it. There is a short film from the mid 90's written by Tom Stoppard called "15 minute Hamlet" and it's legitimately the entire play in 15 minutes. If you sat through the 4 hour long Kenneth Brannagh movie you have seen the longest most boring version of Hamlet possible. I say this as a Shakespeare enthusiast (nerd) and I usually like Brannagh's interpretations. That Hamlet is an absolute slog. The point being the 15 minute Hamlet is very funny because it is such a long play. It's also a way to realize just how many famous sayings there are that are from Hamlet. I've seen it performed live in London but it's hard to find the short film in this digital world. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is very young and is part of the acting troupe. I believe he even plays Ophelia.

The scene with the life preservers is based on the Busby Berkeley movies of the 1930s and 1940s, with large groups of showgirls dancing in complicated geometric patterns. She mentioned Busby Berkeley in the movie, when said the video was based on looking at showgirls throughout history. I don't know if you guys noticed but all the actors in this video (minus most of the "lifeguard" girls) are her Eras tour dancers+musicians! Also, this album — especially the title track and the video — feels like her taking full control of her career. During Reputation and Folklore/Evermore, I think she started feeling weird or even guilty about how huge her fame had become, like success was something she had to apologize for. Then Midnights came, and in songs like “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” “Bejeweled,” and “Mastermind,” you can tell she’s starting to make peace with it. She accepts that maybe she is the “monster on the hill,” but she’s learning that being powerful, ambitious, and seen doesn’t have to be ugly — it can actually be beautiful. And now, it’s like she’s saying, “Yeah, I’m married to the hustle, and now I know the life of a showgirl babe - and I love it.”

I just thought about how Ophelia death is in a water with flowers, and Taylor’s debut album was her in water holding flowers (which is interesting to think about the parallels there). So the first scene with the freed orange bird would represent both debut and reputation, the last two albums she got to reclaim

Also, the orange-gold-red bird totally looks like a phoenix — just like that lyric from You’re Losing Me: “I can’t find a pulse, my heart won’t start anymore.” or "I'm getting tired even for a phoenix. Aways risin' from the ashes mendin' all her gashes, you might just have dealt the final blow." Taylor has always seen herself as a phoenix, constantly burning down versions of who she was and rising again, stronger every time. What I find really fascinating is that this bird — or phoenix, if we’re looking through that lens — appears both at the beginning and the end of the music video. In the opening, it’s radiant and alive, landing gently on Taylor’s arm while she’s being painted. That whole act of posing is intimate but exhausting — you can’t move, you just have to stay still and let someone else shape how you’ll be remembered. That ties perfectly to her line “I swore loyalty to me, myself, and I” and the theme of The Prophecy, where she begins accepting that maybe her fate isn’t about finding “the one.” It also echoes “But even statues crumble if they’re made to wait” — which hits even harder when you think about a muse standing motionless, trapped in stillness until the painter decides she’s complete. Then there’s the second layer: it’s a metaphor for the reversal — the preparation before the show. She’s training, rebuilding, becoming “full” again to perform. By the end, when the bird reappears, it’s after the show. But not right after — after the adrenaline fades, after the celebration with the crew, dancers and her band, when she’s finally alone in the quiet of the night. That’s when the phoenix returns — in the bath — symbolizing her rebirth from the ashes, restoring her power and energy for the next performance. And of course, there’s the cheeky, romantic layer too — how Travis “saved the fate of Ophelia,” not only with his magic wand 😏😂 but by calling her with that megaphone, like he’s been summoning her since the Marry, Kiss, or Kill video back in 2016. It’s sweet and kind of cinematic — like this love was always there, just waiting to be noticed. Anyway, that’s my little phoenix theory. Hope Bonnie, Emily, and you guys enjoy this wild ride through symbolism and chaos. ☺️🫶🏻

It occurred to me that Australians might not pick up on the "pledge allegiance" lyric and I haven't seen anyone point it out. The Pledge of Allegiance is something American school children say every day, which starts with "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America," therefore it is a common phrase but is not often used in normal conversation like Taylor uses it here. This lyric alludes to the fact that she and Travis are both American.

In New Heights this week there was an adorable review of TLOAS by Jason (also referencing Kylie's favorites). Jason put Travis on the spot about Wood and Travis squirmed a little. Fun. Travis did say The Fate of Ophelia is a great FIRST VIDEO! I don't think he meant to say or even noticed that he said "first", but he did. Maybe it was done as an Easter egg! It is well worth watching the 5-10 minutes at the beginning of the podcast. On Kylie Kelce's heavily watched podcast (search NGL on YouTube) she says a quick sentence or two about TLOAS, saying her favorites are Wi$h Li$t and Wood! She says way to go Travis! And something about women sticking together. Not sure exactly. Kylie has the best sense of humor and pulls in about 100,000 viewers per week. She loves the lyric about Austin's saying about the trash. That's all I have. Love your content and vibes.

This is just giving me life ✨ Also as a Greek myth girly that ship scene is also sooooo sickening HELP (excuse the ted talk but I can’t help myself) What a role reversal of her being the Odysseus character (which would make Travis Penelope.) Odysseus spends 10 years at war (wins the war ultimately through cleverness - Mastermind) and then spends another 10 returning home to reclaim his kingdom. Odysseus was known to be extremely clever and was loved by Athena (also had help from Zeus - ⚡️ opalite?, and Hermes - extremely clever and literally invented music and then gave it to Apollo, Hermes also 12th Olympian). Odysseus had several trials on his way home, like forced captivity for 7 years on an island with calypso (6 years, Britain), where he was unhappy and yearning for his home Penelope was known for being faithful and clever (you could say she was “honing her powers” ) and protected the kingdom against unwanted suitors. Odysseus then wins back his throne by shooting an arrow (archer 🏹 ) through TWELVE axe heads. And there are SO few happy endings for women in Greek mythology the fact that she is the father figure of this tale and then it’s one of the only happy endings is just 🤌🤌🤌

I think it may be a (double) reference to Beata Beatrix by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, depicting a character from his poems but in the likeness of his deceased wife, Elizabeth Siddal. Siddal—the model for the most famous Ophelia painting—also suffered a tragic death. She was an art model but also wrote her own poems about love, and her “tortured”/prolonged engagement to Rossetti is thought to have contributed to her ill health, depression, and death. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beata_Beatrix Taylor also appears to “rewrite” the ending here, just as Ophelia escapes drowning in the previous scene. the only "hate" I have seen about the tik tok dance is people addressing the toxic fans who condemn other artists for doing tik tok dances and calling them desperate, now flipping the script because Taylor has done one. Toxic fans really can be the loudest it's so disheartening sometimes. Whatever happened to fun! Let artists do whatever they want when it comes to their art, and yes I mean every single artist! Fun story - when I was 15, my drama group put on an abridged version of Hamlet that was only 20 minutes long 😂 I played Ophelia, so I have always had a soft spot for her (plus the Millais painting is my absolute favourite painting of all time). Our play was very much a comedic, tongue-in-cheek retelling of the story, and I 'drowned' myself by throwing a cup of water over my head and then collapsing dramatically 😂

I've seen some people theorising that the scene with the red hair is a reference to Elizabeth Siddal who modelled for the famous Millais Ophelia painting. She was a famous model in Victorian England who had long red hair and had a pretty tragic life herself. She died young and her husband (another artist Rossetti) actually dug up her grave 7 years after she died to retrieve a book of his poetry he'd buried with her. Major YIKES but gives a whole different layer to the lyric 'dug me out of my grave'. Siddal was actually an artist in her own right but is usually only known by her modelling work.

regarding the orange/red bird too, that most famous painting of Ophelia uses the model of a woman named Elizabeth Siddal. After her popularity from being a model for that painting, she got involved with a painter named Rossetti who eventually painted Siddal in a piece called "Beata Beatrix" that has the red/orange bird, identical to the one that appears with Taylor in the music video as well! To quote the wikipedia on the painting in particular: "...the symbolism in the painting of a red dove, a messenger of love, suggests Rossetti's love for Siddal..."

Yes, Kitty is the name of Andrea’s dog. And, Sequins are Forever is a play on the Diamonds are Forever from Elizabeth Taylor. I haven’t seen this discussed, but i probably just missed it, but in case you didn’t know….. the lyric to the bridge is All my White Diamonds and lovers are Forever. White Diamonds is a famous brand of perfume from Elizabeth Taylor. But it was a famous commercial back in the day with her in it. The tag line was Diamonds Are Forever. So, the lyric is a play on the tagline to put them together. Then she adds lovers. Instead of “white’ diamonds are forever, she says white diamonds “and lovers’ are forever. Here, the life of a showgirl is sequins not diamonds. So she changes it to “Sequins are Forever’. Brilliant.

But think back to Folklore/Evermore era - going off grid, leaving her regular life and escaping to live in a cabin in the forest is a thing that Taylor herself thought she wanted at a certain point of her life. I think EVERYTHING she lists in Wi$h Li$t are stand-ins for lives she has at certain points thought she wanted for herself. Maybe the “They” she is talking about are versions of herself at different points in her life?! Even the “yacht life”, and “spring break that was ‘fucking lit!’”, makes me think that there was a time - maybe around 1989 era - where it seemed she was always surrounded by a lot of people who were rising celebrities, into glamorous parties (maybe on yachts? Now that We Don’t Talk? etc.) and embracing in the life of being a famous person. Maybe for a time she thought she might want to live that life too. Maybe surrounded by a girl squad of famous model friends, etc? The mentions of the Oscar and the other film award could be stand ins for things she’s aspired to have or do more recently - directing, making her short film, making a feature film, gaining recognition for filmmaking etc. But the point of the song is that in this relationship, in the phase of her life she is in now, this version of herself aspires to have things she’s never really had before - a real partner, a family, a “driveway with a basketball hoop”, etc. The pre-chorus saying “and they should have what they want, they deserve what they want, I hope they get what they want” - makes sense because in order to get to the place and person she is now, those past versions of herself needed to explore what those other lives were like in order to understand what aspects of them are and aren’t really her. I think she’s really just been talking about how in the process of growing up and living her life, she’s had different visions for her life, and they’re not less or more valuable, they’re just reflections of personas she was trying on or aspiring to become in that particular moment of her life. Parts of those lives she has carried forward, and parts she has moved on from. The $ symbols in the title of the song really make me sure that I am on the right track - the fancy “things” she lists are symbols for the kind of life she thought she wanted at these different points in her life, and she has had to make her way through all those versions of herself - those eras - to get where she is now, where her wish list is a pretty simple vision for a life. Someone to build and share a life and home with, a family, the chance to feel a bit settled and secure. It’s not a better or worse life than the other ones she’s wished for before, it’s just where she is now. That song is so catchy and fun to sing along to, and I think there is more to what she’s saying than just listing fancy things and saying “but I don’t want any of that, I just want you.” as if she’s putting herself above others who want the “fancy” things. All of the “theys” she describes are versions of her, just at different times. That’s my thesis. Sorry for the long rant, apparently I had many words to say about that one song….

Omg so much to say. This video reminds me SO MUCH of Christina Aguliera's Ain't No Other Man video (and Candyman a bit as well with the different colored hair and a blue outfit moment - both videos from the Back to Basics era, which was very showgirly), and I love to think that there might be a connection there as I love both Xtina and Taylor (and Sabrina fits into all this as well) <3 Some other first impression thoughts: the red hair version of Taylor on the ship reminded me of Florence (Welch), the bird could be a phoenix reference (as others have pointed out already in the comments), I agree her entagled in the ropes symbolise her being married to the hustle (especially with the "sequins are forever" poster) and how hard (almost tied up and suffocating?) it can really feel sometimes behind the scenes, LOVED the blue "underwater" scene (also that jump in the water reminds me of that jump on the Eras tour) and omg that Midnights party vibe going into the album cover bath scene... I can totally imagine her taking a bath one night on the Eras tour, feeling particularly exhausted and also depressed amidst the Joe / Matty situations, thinking and feeling like she might just drown right then and there and that maybe that is her fate...of Ophelia. I cant help but notice the similarities to the Wildest Dreams music video. The whole stage show with the marker, directors, makeup artist and the dark hair taylor acting. I also noticed that at the end of the Wildest dreams music video it says staring Marjorie Finlay on the theater similar to Kitty Finlay on the Ophealia mv. Its giving showgirl taylor, shes even wearing a sparkling light orange ball gown at the movie premier in the Wildest dreams music video. It's feels like a MOVIE - you meet the character and you stay with them for no cuts until a new character, a new "movie". Guys, i do love this video but the only reason I don't think it's the greatest thing ever is because I fear she is restricted by her secrecy at this point in her fame. She makes music videos in secret, the song cant even be played on set and i do miss her on location vids like Blank Space, Begin Again, Out of the Woods, Wildest Dreams etc but she can honestly never do that again because they'd hound her and there'd be leaks which is so sad! Wait, Bonny just illuminated to me what bothers me about Wish List! It's the one song that I have a really hard time getting into, and I think it's the "complex female character" part. Like, delving into the complex female character is kind of the basis for a lot of Taylor's writing about girl and womanhood, and using that as something she doesn't care about just bothers me. I know she writes each song about a moment in time or a feeling she has in a moment so it's not necessarily representative of all her feelings, but I have a hard time with that lyric.

I don't think it's something she doesn't care about. I see it as commentary on how people always expect her songs to portray that, but she doesn't always want to write from that perspective. None of the things she lists in the song are being portrayed negatively, it's just simply about this feeling of wanting a "simple life" with her partner (aka it's a simple song). Not every song needs to be a deep introspection, we all know she is complex (as are all people). That's how I interpret the lyric at least!

I think that's reading a bit too deep into what the idea of the song is supposed to represent...she's simply talking about what she wants and she's saying it's okay for other people to want the things she's listing, she's not saying she looks down on people who want those things...she's never saying "oh these people want these things and that's dumb" it's just a cute, fun love song for travis and I think we shouldn't read too deep into it lol :)

my main fathoming from this MV: as y'all mentioned, the orange bird is a direct reference to orange karma taylor in the LWYMMD music video, who is trapped in a bird cage. At the end of the fate of ophelia music video, showgirl taylor enters this party setting, running off when paparazzi sticks their cameras through the window. The orange bird makes a quick escape out the open window, but showgirl taylor is left there in the bathtub. I have no idea what it all means, we can only guess, but I think it's interesting!

Just throwing this out there- At the very end when the paps lead her to the bathroom, I have a couple of thoughts/questions: -The paps chased Princess Diana which ultimately lead to her death when her coach crashed. I wouldn't say Princess Diana was necessarily a showgirl but she was very televised -Were the paps keeping Taylor secluded which ultimately almost lead to the fate of Ophelia?
