bonny you said it perfectly. it’s all about how a song makes YOU feel. i either get that feeling from a song or i just simply don’t. it has nothing to do with how good the song is or how loved it is by others if i don’t get that feeling listening to it it’s not ever going to be one of my favourite songs no matter how i much i love taylor and all her songs at the end of the day, it’s not a “me song” as i call it. sometimes that feeling comes months or years after you listen to the song for the first time and sometimes it’s on the first listen. so i totally get that chloe et all is not a “you song”!

If you feel dizzy after many cups of tea, it might be iron deficiency !!!! It happens to me ! The key is to drink it at least 1-2h after each meal so the caffeine doesn't stop the iron from being ingested :)

I have always stanned SOTB since it came out (21/50 for top 50) and I honestly think Midnights is a dark horse when it comes to top 3 albums for me. Something about how delicate and almost fragile the song's production is makes it so unique to the album and her distography and then the crashing waves after the bridge get me every time. Justice for SOTB! It is the song that reminds me the most of my season of engagement. The calming tone of it gives me reflective vibes and it makes me think of the 16 year old girl I once was that never thought she’d be loved and is trying to fathom how crazy it is to have found my person but again how soft and slow it is reminds me of how steady and sure I am that it’s real and true, despite how unbelievable it is and unattainable it once seemed.

I have something to say about sugar, too. Any sugar including fruit sugar can cause an insulin spike. That would definitely cause dizziness and in me kind of a weird spaced out feeling. About the man: I somehow always divide the Taylor Swift catalogue into two categories. Songs, that just 'wrote themself' because they HAD to get out (good examples would be all too well, ivy, my tears ricochet, getaway car, YOYOK) and songs where she went 'i want to write a song that does xyz/ has a certain function and went about it in a strategic, planned way (the most extreme examples would be: only the young, the man, me, you need to calm down, thank you Amy, actually romantic). While it's still better songs than most of the music on the radio, the latter category is never my favorite. It's just palpable that she construed them actively and they feel less effortless and authentic. Anyone who gets what I'm saying here?

The storytelling is offensive, the melodies are superior, the sadness is deeeeep, but for me what makes it hit so hard is the melancholy. It has such a deep melancholy at its core, not only because of the sadness but because it lingers. the feeling lingers, the sadness lingers, but mostly, the love lingers. And that is what’s devastating about this song, the thought and the fear that you could meet someone and end up with the same feeling Taylor has in this song - the lingering and waiting and searching for that person everywhere you go, no matter where you are or who you’ve become. What blows my mind about Tis the Damn Season is that all of the rhymes are not “true” rhymes because the consonants don’t match. Just the vowels rhyme. Even / weekenD down/house now/towN ourS/far they all sort of rhyme but not really and I think it’s symbolic of how she knows it’s not really a relationship that’s going to work long term with their 2 different lives but there’s still something beautiful about it in the moment.

Maria thank you for asking, I’m so glad you’re curious… of course, I’ll be happy to explain my snow on the beach placement ☺️! I think my love for this song comes mainly from a personal experience, however, I do believe that SOTB is one of those songs that transports you somewhere else from the second you listen to it. Listening to this song with my headphones on will always be a MAGICAL experience, it immediately takes me to a beautiful old city, with snow falling down and Christmas decorations all around. A similar experience to listening to Enchanted, in my opinion, it always takes me to a magical place. The lyrics speak to my soul directly because a month after Midnights came out and I became obsessed with this song (Nov 2022), it just started snowing back in the city I was living in - and as a coincidence, I was starting to fall in love with a guy I had just met, who then became my boyfriend (and still is!). So that’s why I think my love for this song comes from that personal experience, because it represents exactly what I was living at that time: To be almost too afraid to fall in love with someone and have so many questions about if they would want you back and if a real thing would work with this person, but finally admitting to yourself that this is something special and you’re falling in love again (also Labyrinth is so relatable for that!) - and at the same time, going through this whole experience in a beautiful place surrounded by snow and Christmas vibes. Every time I listen to it now, it even makes me emotional to almost feel like I re-live those memories. This song was speaking to my soul back then, that’s why I love it so much. I guess we all have those songs from Taylor that literally represent what we’re going through ☺️ SOTB is that one for me! 🤍 - thanks for reading!

Speak Now is high for me because I love the song but also I remember when it came out as a promo early release single and I listened to it on repeat for probably 6 weeks straight. I would like daydream listen to it and imagine stopping my first love getting hypothetically married (we were seniors in high school when SN came out) and I was hopelessly still in love with him and was feeling like I had this like countdown till the end of the year to declare my love 😂. I am someone who does think this song fits the album theme though. With Father Figure, I was trying to figure out where in my top 5, I loveeeeee that song. It’s so bad ass and powerful. I also just really love how Succession was a bit of an inspiration too.

It dates back to 2000 when I was a freshman in HS and Eminem’s song Stan was new. Anyway, my algebra teacher would make us write “apology letters,“ if we were being disruptive in class. Of course me being horrible at math, I was sometimes disruptive with my friend Tracy. I never realized how polarizing track 4s are for me until now, lol. For the most part I either really really love (COSOM, TTDS, Down Bad, Exile, Don't Blame Me, OOTW, The Man) or strongly dislike (like these are actually some of my least fave Taylor songs ever.... Father Figure, Snow on the Beach, Hey Stephen, Speak Now) most of these. I suppose I'm sort of neutral on IKYWT and APITW. I don't have any nostalgia for Hey Stephen or Speak Now cause I'm 8 years older than Taylor and didn't become a fan until Red/1989 era. I'm not a Lana fan (she is the artist I feel bullied into liking but I just don't! She's a great lyricist but her vibe is just not for me) and I just can't move past the my dick's bigger line in Father Figure. I can't put my finger on why I hate it but it ruins the whole song. Also my forever hot take is that I don't really like DBATC because I don't like the production... it's similar to how people hate the crash banging in closure. I much prefer it acoustically. And I love Jack - I just think he and Taylor missed on that one. Really excited to watch the Track 7s while I catch up over my lovely holiday break. :)
