Just live your best lives 😊 Love the clean version topic. while I usually prefer the swear words, I do listen to the clean ones at least once lol I think my favorite clean version is The Bolter. It may be because I love that song, but the change was interesting to me. I still prefer the explicit one, but I added the clean one to my playlists lol For American radio, some swear words are ok, but the F word or GD is usually not permitted. The cds or albums must carry an explicit warning too. I personally do not mind an F bomb but I don’t like GD at all- but that’s just me. Great video as usual chickens 🫶

Redwood tree, it ain't hard to see his love was the key that opened my skies" might just be the best clean version she's ever written. It keeps all of the romance and poetry that a Taylor song should have but just dials back on the innuendo to a more palatable level for people who maybe aren't comfortable with overt sexuality. I love both versions. (Though you are right about the "missing" lyric. It sounds too "teenager taking themselves too seriously" as opposed to "I've had a rough time and a little self-deprecation helps me reset".)

Don’t know if this was mentioned but Teardrops on my Guitar also got a lyric change. It used to be "I laugh cause it’s so damn funny" and now it’s “I laugh cause it’s just so funny." I miss the original lyrics since it’s the ones I knew first and no one talks about it😅

yes in america there's no curse words allowed on the radio so it's either a clean version they use on the radio or they made a radio edit where the curse words are just removed and there's awkward silent moments

I think Taylor used so much profanity on TLOAS, because that’s how showgirls talk. The stereotypical show girl is a bit crude and lowbrow, and she uses salty language. It fits the concept of the album, and I feel like it runs throughout all the songs where she is using “cringey” language, including Eldest Daughter. We tend to think of artists as always portraying themselves in their art, but often they’re adopting a certain persona. Taylor touched on this a bit in one of her TLOASG interviews.

Congrats on the house!!! Regarding the use of the word “bitch,” I totally agree with Bonny. It’s jarring to hear it, especially from Taylor. I believe she was trying to speak from the perspective of the hardened showgirl when using some of this type of language (in Wish List, Honey, Showgirl, even Eldest Daughter)—the showgirl character/persona of Taylor that she plays with throughout the album. I think the uplifting message of the album is that the love she’s found with Travis has brought her back to a gentler, inner child place from that hardened perspective. The song Honey is an example of this message—it seems to me that Taylor herself is not condoning the use of “bitch”, but is speaking from how she felt in the past with her walls up and feeling competitive with other women. Or maybe I’m being overly generous! However, either way, I’m not sure this was intentional enough or successfully/consistently communicated enough to work fully for the song! I feel there’s more layers in Showgirl than people are giving it credit for, but not everything landed 100%. All that being said, Honey is still one of my favorites 🤣

Sorry to get morbid and legal and you can park this information and reference it later, but me and my brother have been dealing with superannuation claims, fallout and legal battles against other family over our dad’s estate after his sudden death in February this year, and I just want to give you two some advice! Make sure when settling all your contracts with the house that you make sure exactly what type of ownership arrangement you want and whether you want to delineate the ownership as 50/50 of the value or just be joint owners etc, and make sure you make or update your wills. And also for hopefully very distant future reference, if someone dies and you need to claim their Super Death Benefit, their spouse, children and financial dependents, and legal representatives are prioritised in that order, over anyone else trying to make a claim, except if you can prove that you were interdependent and committed to sharing a life together, such as buying a house together, sharing bills, having a very close personal relationship. So buying a house together is a big step and protective for each of you that if one of you died, the other would have stronger grounds to claim and be provided for, if that’s what you would want. It took me until reading a comment about this new album until I realised that when songs are labelled Explicit, it doesn't just refer to explicit language, but also explicit content. Because I was just so confused and judging why on earth was the clean version of Actually Romantic censoring the words coke and wet even though they're not swear words. Until I realised that maybe clean versions aren't just scrubbing swear words, they're making them thematically G rated as well. But I still shake my head at America being so sensitive that they consider Goddamn/damn to be explicit.

I saw some program that was discussing how some of the Swifties were not pleased that Travis was featured so prominently. To them I say, Disney is a key sponsor of NFL and is trying to reach the largest audience possible and engage the NFL fans as well as the Swifties . Something to remember is that Travis Kelce has hundreds of thousands of fans from his time in the NFL, his businesses, his podcast (well established prior to meeting Taylor) and his time at Cincy playing college ball. Travis is an owner in a beer company, energy drink, restaurant, car wash franchise, Cholula hot sauce investor, race car team investor etc. He has a lot of successful business ventures as well as being a top NFL player. His presence offers a lot to Disney in their efforts to reach a new, target audience.

Not only does it satirize the way women are viewed as sex objects by flipping this to objectifying men, but it uses superstition to comment on female agency and makes another multi-layered reference to Ophelia. It’s a masterpiece! “Wood” might sound like little more than raunchy puns about how much Taylor loves her fiancé’s… assets. But beneath the playful surface lies a daring critique of patriarchy, double standards, and the policing of female desire. Travis easter egged this on his podcast when he and his brother were discussing the movie Pretty Woman and how it was misogynistic and he said really there needed to be "Pretty Man" to truly gauge this premise. Taylor does this, flips expectation, and manipulates the audience (why is it demeaning to say ahmatizing? [asking the Swiftologist ] women can enjoy pleasure!), contrasting objectifying men vs objectifying women one is praise and one is insulting? Builds off the song Slut! where Taylor is reclaiming her agency and power.

She certainly praises Travis and New Heights vs Smallest Man and Redwood being an enduring, strong tree etc. But she does it in a way that satirize the way women are viewed as sex objects by flipping things to objectifying men, and uses superstition to comment on female agency and make another multi-layered reference to Ophelia. It’s a masterpiece! “Wood” might sound like little more than raunchy puns about how much Taylor loves her fiancé’s… assets. But beneath the playful surface lies a daring critique of patriarchy, double standards, and the policing of female desire. Travis easter egged this on his podcast when he and his brother were discussing the movie Pretty Woman and how it was misogynistic and he said really there needed to be "Pretty Man" to truly gauge this premise. Taylor does this, flips expectation, and manipulates the audience (why is it demeaning to say ahmatizing? [asking the Swiftologist ] except thru the lens of your own prejudices.... women can enjoy pleasure!), contrasting objectifying men vs objectifying women one is praise and one is insulting? Builds off the song Slut! where Taylor is reclaiming her agency and power.

damn is definitely not explicit in u.s. radio play or in any other format. it's said on television constantly. the u.s. just is hung up on the christianity aspect of "profanity", so saying goddamn or jesus is generally not allowed on network television. radio play allows sexual inuendo, but explicit talk about body parts or sexual response is bleeped if there aren't clean versions available.

I just love her revisiting that idea all these years later and talking about travis in a way that could be immediately viewed as objectifying him but instead uses her lyrical talents to make it feel romantic and overall deeper than when a lot of men so the same thing to women.

In Tay’s entire discography the only clean version I prefer is Wood. I am rarely unable to appreciate every moment of a song, but my brain/heart/soul deeply dislikes the way she says thighs in this song (and I LOVE guilty as sin!). I can tolerate the whispered/cheeky way she drops it the first time, but I try and skip the end of the song each time because the way she says thighs at the end is actually my least favourite sound she has ever made 😬🙉🙉🙉

In the UK if there isn’t a clean version they usually just miss out the word. I remember growing up there were songs I thought were just like that, but when I eventually heard the real version it felt wrong that there was a word there 😂 some songs that have multiple swears in a short section just end up not working at all though and I wonder why they even bother playing it 😂

I don’t think she used it as something negative. I thought “Oh! I don’t mind “bitch” in TLOAS because i think it fits with the story arc of the character Taylor is cosplaying in that song. The song goes from Kitty telling the Taylor Showgirl character “you’re too soft for this life, you’ll never last in this industry,” to the Taylor/Sabrina character hardening herself over the years “paid my dues with every bruise…ice inside my veins (she’s becoming cold and numb)…ripped me off like false lashes…the dance hall of bitches (other girls who want the same dream of being The Showgirl) who wish I’d hurry up and die…but I’m immortal now.” And after she says she’s immortal now, the showgirl is finally at the position in the industry where she no longer feels threatened or as competitive with other girls fighting for a spot in the industry, so she’s finally able to pass down Kitty’s wisdom to girls who are now bringing The Showgirl bouquets while also warning them about the dangers of the industry and how it hardens you, or how you HAVE to harden yourself in order to step above others with the same dream. I think the term adds to the story about how the patriarchal industry turns you against other women to fight for the small space they allow women to occupy, until you’ve reached the top and you realize what Kitty was saying all along: the industry changes you, hardens you, turning you into something unrecognizable. You trade your softer self for immortality. And I think the whole album is Taylor and the showgirl character grappling with being the one in power and how to wield it with the benefit of hindsight while also trying to rediscover that soft version of herself (like in Honey I think she uses “bitch” because that’s the word that “honey” and “sweetheart” were replacing whenever she herself was being addressed by those terms. So by her just stating it plainly “that bitch” it’s kind of cutting out the social niceties/fakeness. But those terms are now being recontextualized with a person who is using those terms without some obvious double meaning).

Regarding her use of “bitch” in this album, I’ve seen people in the industry mention that it’s like Taylor is really leaning into the “showgirl” lingo that actual showgirls use amongst themselves backstage. Apparently they’re often quite bawdy with one another and use the word “bitch” all the time. So that could be a reason that she uses it so often considering her feminism. We all know that she chooses her words so carefully in all of her songs, so there has to be a good reason she says “bitch” so much.

As a toddler mom who listens to the clean versions all day and the explicit on my own time this was very entertaining to watch! I will say I do appreciate the effort Taylor puts in to her clean versions rather than there just being a bleep out. She’s still clever about each choice and I love that! not to bring up a horrific time, but the overuse of the word bitch on the album also surprises me considering that was what a lot of her problem with using her name in "Famous" was. When she says in the Miss Americana documentary, I think, that "he never said he was gonna call me 'that bitch'" or something like that. I just would've guessed from that that she shared some of Bonny's aversion to that term for women in general, but doesn't seem like that factored into her decision to say it a bunch in TLOAS. Doesn't bug me a ton, just thought it was interesting!

I agree with what you’re saying about the word ‘bitch’, Bonny. When I first heard it used in Honey it immediately made me think of her comment in the Miss Americana doc where she is writing The Man and says she specifically chose the word ‘bitches’ in the lyrics “because they [male musicians] get to call us that”. It’s also obviously the word she objected to in Kanye’s song. I think it rings badly in my ear to hear her use it in a negative way to describe another woman. Like clearly she’s not describing a pleasant interaction in Honey, but even so. I think if women do it, even if they feel it’s justified, then it contributes more to men thinking it’s okay. I hate the “witches” change too, for the same reason. These words have historically been used to belittle and dehumanise women. She has been called both of these things with that express intent and has written lyrics sharing how awful it felt. Why are we doing it to other women? In 2025? No, thank you.

I took the "missing" lyric change in Wood to be more about her missing out on a lot of things because she was so in her own head or at home dwelling on the past. Not so much that she misses the past, but that she was missing out on her present because she was so tied up in being superstitious about her past.

About the bitch word, I grew up in a house where it was okay to call someone a bitch if they really deserved it. If we said someone was being a bitch my mom would make us defend the word choice and then tell us yes or no if it was an appropriate time to use the word. It is almost always used for women so I do completely understand that the word itself is centered around putting women down. I guess since I spent all that time discussing it in my family I’ve reframed my thoughts around the word and now I just think of it as being mean.

I think she definitely films things she thinks are important not necessarily for a documentary but for herself so she probably has clips as you said meeting the dancers, probably when she brought up the idea of the tour to whoever needs to know, grammy nominations and stuff. We also know she filmed in paris for example because most of the icdiwabh MV is from those shows so maybe there's more backstage stuff there. I really like this analysis. It goes beyond the surface level. Taylor was upset with the use of the word Bitch at 19, but she has realized that the use of the word Honey and Sweetheart are just as offensive. It is who is saying it and how it is said. Emily kind of almost fathomed this when she said she herself uses the word Bitch to describe someone but in a "badass" vs negative tone. By the same vein, the whole song of Wood is satire. It is NOT just about Travis body, but rather objectifying men vs women and why one is offensive and the other is viewed as praise. (Builds on the song Slut!). These songs are some of the most complex she has ever written as well as being bops. Taylor gave the clue in the podcast when she said there needed to be precisely 12 songs. I think the songs are interconnected to form a total narrative, and they make a statement and an indictment of the patriarchy. (and I use to think TTPD were the most complex). Taylor is truly a genius.

I have to say I’m personally curious about the tone towards women on this album by Taylor. Especially when I think about her in Miss Americana saying “there’s no such thing as a bitch” - it makes me wonder how she went from that mind frame to labelling women as “bitches” multiple times on this album. Speaking about clean versions of songs…I live in Canada and we definitely hear the clean versions of songs on the radio. A huge one that stands out to me is F-ing Perfect by P!nk. I heard the clean version of that song only for years and years which was “less than perfect” and I had no idea that the real lyrics were different. Also I noticed a song being bleeped out recently because the lyrics were “he’s good in bed”. It was Megan Maroney’s Am I Okay? I was shocked because why can’t she say that? Is it because she’s a woman talking about her sexuality?

I only ever listen to the radio at work, where its required if we want to listen to music, there's a few set stations we can listen to. I work in a kitchen in a senior living facility. We can listen to our own music if all the doors to the kitchen are closed--which only happens maybe an hour a day, and its not too loud so the residents can't hear it in the halls. I hate modern radio, its so annoying, especially the morning "talk shows."
