OHHHH A NEW LITTLE SERIES!!!!

Besties, today we started the journey of watching Taylor's appearances on SNL over the years. Starting off with 2 appearances in 2009, it is so interesting to watch some of these skits we have never seen before! (so you know, we didn't get through everything she did on the night she hosted, so the rest will be in part 2)

We hope you enjoy 🥰

Katie LaFave

obviously we all want her to perform again on snl, but i would love for her to host again since it’s been so long

Jay Ban

I'm never been this early!!!!

Katie LaFave

she really is so so funny!!! her sense of humor is so underrated

Hoostock

Don’t leave Caitlin out

Megan C

So excited! Thank you, chickens!! 🐥 🐥

Dominic Cuomo

Her monologue is the best monologue of all monologues

Jamie

I think Paul is more of a Ser Jorah Mormont to Daenerys. 🤣

Mika B

Have you watched stranger things?

Hoostock

She has always been so clever and funny

Hoostock

You both look good

Lynn Fish

Funny thing is Jason Sadakis does a charity thing in Kansas City that Travis participates in every year. When Travis and Taylor first started dating he did a skit with him, where Jason Sadakis asked him in character asked Travis when he was going to marry Taylor. you need to find this skit.

Hoostock

Do you think Taylor came up with that skit

Katie LaFave

snl really is a good show! i watch it every werk with my dad

Jacob Zammitt

Haha it's a thing that they don't look at each other in skits, they read cue cards with their lines

Amber

as far as i know her og drummer in that performance actually left to spend more time with his young daughters, i guess with being away so much travelling with the band and touring it might be difficult being away from home that much

Richard

I love Taylor but she is not the only one who had the same band members since the beginning. Kelly had the same band leader Jason since the beginning.

ton

Totally agree about the Paul / Brienne comparison… with an axe 🎸 instead of a sword 🤣

Richard

I am a straight white man who loved Taylor from the beginning. So not all of us are like that.

Bekah

Somehow this is the most American she’s ever been

Richard

I can name Bono, chris Martin, Ed Sheeran, and a lot others who gave her the time of day.

Angela J Reeves

Penelope is an ongoing character on SNL so it was just a version of Penelope with Taylor

Katie LaFave

i went to the eras tour with my straight brother who’s been a fan for many years

Katie LaFave

she is one of only a few hosts who wrote their own monologue

ton

It’s incredible seeing the work she’s put into her performing over the years

Darya 🤍

Perhaps some context

Hoostock

It was the first skit they showed. Wondered if Taylor had the idea or was it the SNL writers

Hoostock

The one with the parents driving

ton

You might enjoy the Hamish and Andy NY interview of Taylor where she also just made up a song on the spot

Rebecca

Frankenstein's monster fears fire because he learns that it can be a source of warmth but also cause pain. Not much more to it 😂

Nicole

Paul and Brienne 😂💯🗡️

Nicole

This is giving me all the giggles. She’s like Avril Lavigne with her hair and gestures half way through Forever and Always 🤣

Erica

I love how you said how did she know to be funny with her snl monologue when it’s a literal sketch comedy show 🤣

MarkH

Do Americans find this funny? Well, there are over 300 million Americans, but speaking for myself, no, absolutely not. I would say that if I find 30 percent of the SNL skits funny, that is a great episode. Some skits are great, for sure, but most of them are blah at best, and a lot of them are actually kind of disgusting or grotesque. I think it is really hard to write a good skit. You just remember the great ones, while the vast majority of them fade out of your memory the second they are over. But let me say that Taylor totally commits to every skit and movie she is in. She is quite willing to look ridiculous, as with the braces skit (which was a really good one) and the Kate Gosselin skit (which was terrible, but not because of Taylor).

Kristy

No, we don’t all find all SNL skits funny 😅

lauren

Please react to Florence’s new album :(

monstheresa

omg I loved this!! would love to see you react to the ariana, sabrina and pedro pascal snl stuff as well 🫶🏼

Jenny MacRunnel

So the point behind SNL is that actors and comedians are working on their performances. Its like practice time for them, honestly. Its like a televised workshop is a great way to think of it. Half of the stuff they do isn't usually that funny, but hopefully there's a few funny skits each week. I'm sure that's the appeal of them adding celebrities and performers, its gives more viewers that way. I'm so glad you guys are doing this series! I've seen a lot of this, but its been awhile. And The Monologue Song is one of the best things Taylor did in her early career. She nailed it!

Katie LaFave

well yes she went on snl twice in 2009, but they were separate seasosns

Soph

YES BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

Dominic Cuomo

The dream SNL episode now is Travis as the host with Taylor as the musical guest. NBC is going to need to pay a lot of money for those two to appear again

Dominic Cuomo

Her performing Love Story made me think that the next time she performs Love Story on stage is going to hit harder for her because she’ll be a married woman

Megan W

Been waiting for the SNL era! Taylor's comedic talent truly shines

Nicole

I often do not find SNL funny at all. 😏

Lizzie Page

What always stands out to me, especially in those early years, which you ladies touched on in your 1989 Tour Guests videos, is that this woman is always had that insane magnetism and stage presence, right from the beginning. Even in those first performances on SNL, she knows how to be on stage, and you can’t take her eyes off her. And when you watch Eras Tour it seems obvious, because she’s the biggest star in the world and has been for a couple decades, for her to have that presence, but we often forget that she’s had it from the very beginning 🤯

Soph

my mother used to send me to school EVERY DAY in a side pony😭 and i have extremely curly hair so not fun man

subtle reads

Don’t worry, as an American, I don’t always find the SNL humor all that funny either. I think it can be very hit or miss lol

Annika 📍Melb, AU

Why is Amos thrashing around reminding me of Monica from Friends pretending to be a shark 💀

Katie LaFave

idk i always feel like seth meyers and jimmy fallon are interested and care about their guests!!!

Katie LaFave

trust me not every snl skit is funny, but it is a really good show!! it really depends on the hosts, but like miles teller, timothy chalamet, and ariana grande are always good eps

Elizabeth Wellman

I hope she hosts again at some point because I think the writing at this period of the show was pretty weak and she deserved better material. Have you guys watched Travis host SNL?? It would be SO fun to see you react to his episode - he absolutely killed it and it’s such a good illustration of why he’s perfect for Taylor.

Katie LaFave

gosh kristen wig is just amazing

Katie LaFave

they all have to read their lines on cue cards so that's why sometimes they aren't looking at each other

Katie LaFave

a couple of skits do revolve around the hosts, but not all so the wedding skit for example has nothing to do with taylor

Katie LaFave

the cast does change every season in the sense that some people leave and they add new people, but once the cast is set for that season they're there every week!! that's why it was hard at first for lorne (the creator/producer of snl) to let bowen yang do wicked cuz you're not aloud to miss episodes!! so bowen had to fly back and forth from london and new york!! however, the number of skits you're in each week does change!! like one week, you could be in 6 then the next week you're only in 2

Amanda P

I think the general consensus in the US is also that SNL isn’t very funny 🫢 esp. in recent years lol! the reason they’re not looking at each other is because it’s live & they’re reading cue cards!

Katie LaFave

yes we do find it funny!! some episodes are funnier than others, but overall it's a great show!! i mean it's been on air since 1975 so they're doing something right

Abby Carter

That rogue peanut butter chat had me giggling! Yall are simply the best 🩷🩷🩷

Katie LaFave

most of the time the hosts aren’t heavily involved with the skits unless they’re comedians or former cast members

Katie LaFave

well Taylor went into hosting and probably was like I want to write my own monologue and i know people don’t usually do that but I want to so she knew that it had to be funny!! So yes it looks effortless like she’s not trying to be funny, but she did write all those jokes and was purposely trying to be funny!

Katie LaFave

I don’t know I watch SNL every weekend with my dad and we think it’s still pretty funny! like there are certain cast members that are always funny no matter what and then there are hosts that are also funny no matter what like Miles Teller, Ariana Grande, and Timothée Chalamet

Katie LaFave

I think snl is very funny still like there are certain cast members that no matter what they say or do they’re just funny and then there’s hosts that are very funny!! I still think the show is very good and again there’s a reason it’s been going on for 50+ years

Annika 📍Melb, AU

I’m enjoying the SNL commentary! I feel very seen as an Aussie who does not understand this style of humour 🤣

Louise

She did three other skits that same night and performed Untouchable!

Ben

The monologue song sounds like Never grow up!

Eevaliisa H.

They're doing a part 2 of that night 👌🏻

Dominic Cuomo

I recommend watching Travis’s SNL episode he nailed it even the cut skits from that episode were great like “The NFL Gives Back”

Dominic Cuomo

Even the cut skits were great like “The NFL Gives Back” one

Clare

The fact that she and Travis can relate to both hosting SNL is such an invisible string. His episode is hilarious

Aloha Record Sargent

Almost every day in elementary school, I wore a half-side-pony. Like, as if you were going to a halfback, then just put half of that in a side pony. The most ridiculous thing you can imagine. 😭

Ella

haha just so you guys know, the wedding one with "Penelope", Penelope is a character that's been in lots of SNL skits and she one ups everybody. Its funny cause it happens in every universe! If you don't know the character or the joke its definitely not funny

Cassy

snl is a hit or miss for me. my bf has shown me some really funny skits before but generally i don’t find it funny. especially what ive seen from recent years. but then again im not sat watching the whole episode so maybe im missing some of it

Ashlyn

SNL really is hit or miss for me. I rarely find skits that are truly funny, and so many that are just awkward or just don't land 😬 but it's always fun to see Taylor perform!!! 🫶

Trinity

Paul is only 18 years older than Taylor.

anna

Amos is grey worm ??

megsterg

Snl generally isn't my kind of humor but I'm not a sketch comedy/improv kind of person. There's definitely been lots of funny skits over the years though since the shows been around forever.

Caroline

i rly relate to no one else that just effortlessly entertains me like taylor lol. i could watch her make a sandwich and be fascinated lol.

Patrick B

I’m American and those skits weren’t funny lol. I think it’s why I’ve never watched her episode because I hadn’t heard good things about it

Noa

4minutes in and im so emotional 😭😭😭

Noa

Baby taylorr why she is actually the samee

Noa

Recently i miss taylor's old hair and look... i wish she will be back to this curlesss

Noa

GUYS this taylor is writing speak now and the lights are purple hahaha i swear she is always been an easter egg girlie

Hannah

The most relatable intro. Peanut butter upsets me so much too. And Em being a professional at not making a mess 🤝 I’m really fun 😂

Carla

Let’s also not forget Mike Meadows - he’s been there from the beginning as well I believe he is the fellow in the back playing guitar.

Evelien 🇳🇱

With 100% peanut butter you can store the jar upside down to avoid the oil from separating!

Carla

Fun fact the Monologue song is an example of Apophasis - bringing up something by denying that it should be brought up.

Talia Adams

Omg 100% need a reaction to Taylor Launtner's SNL monologue where he addresses the Taylor/Kanye incident! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibmouXVqwFc P.s. No, us Americans know SNL often misses the mark (depending on the era). Sometimes is hilarious but often not

Roxanne

I really think it's a cultural thing. Most Americans thinks this is funny I guess (not sure of course). Of course it's also because we don't get every reference. As a Dutch girl I almost never find SNL funny 🫣. Sometimes there are some good skits!

Kirsten Cooper

Something I think worth taking note of is that people with comedic timing and are funny are actually highly intelligent. It makes complete sense to me that Taylor is so funny because she is so highly intelligent.

sierra

no… lol we don’t. snl is so hit or miss i have never been able to actually watch it 😅

Kirsten Cooper

They are reading the lines because they only have 1 week to memorize so they have cue cards

farah abed

HAHAHA YES PAUL AND BRIENNE DO GIVE THE SAME ENERGY🤣🤣🤣 it makes SO much sense help 🤣🤣🤣

Foxy_Tatty

As an American I will say i don’t always enjoy SNL, but the Sabrina skits were all really funny. I’d love if you guys reacted to them. Plus, she sings Nobody’s Son! And Manchild of course 🩷🩵 it’s like they choose a single and a random song from the album like when Taylor sang Forever and always, as well as False God

Goldbourne Mascal

How can I remove the profiles under Chats and Reacts. The damn things are annoying. If I wanted to see their podcasts I would join them. This is sickening stuff. If I can't remove them I will cease my subscription‼️‼️

Kyle

Don't stress yourself

Lus

I loved this video!

Brent

Use your notifications and ignore the home page, that's Patreon trying to get you to subscribe to more people, not the girls

SomDrum

These are so fun to watch! I'm an American who doesn't watch SNL because I typically don't find it to be very funny, so I also haven't seen a lot of Taylor's appearances! I feel like SNL really leans into humor making fun of people and humor that just repeats and escalates the same joke over and over and over again (like that wedding sketch) - neither of those is my vibe, but clearly a lot of people love it!

CarlWayne1975

• Matt Billingslea – drums (joined 2012) • Took over during the Red era and has been her steady percussionist ever since.

Daphne

Sketch comedy is definitely not for everyone lolol. I love SNL but it has ALWAYS been hit or miss for me depending on the sketch. They're either the funniest things I've ever seen in my life or so dumb and unfunny 😂

CarlWayne1975

And NO. Americans DO NOT find SNL always funny. To me, they're always hit and miss. Usually miss. lol

CarlWayne1975

That was really good. Hurry with Part 2!

Shenee Sanchez

Just laughed out loud thinking about the fact that Taylor and Jason Sudeikis played a father/child in that sketch but also have exes who dated each other. 2009 could never have guessed!!

Cali

So true when I decide to watch it or catch it on I'm either laughing really hard or sitting there thinking is this supposed to be funny or like silly dumb lol

Laura

It sounds like you don’t really know how to navigate the Patreon app. At the top of the homepage it will show you the pages you are subscribed to. Just click on the one you want (in this case Chats and Reacts) and it will show you all of their content.

Nicole

I really wish there was something SNL could do to help with the acoustics in the performance space. So many incredible performers sound less than usual in there because its so cavernous. I know its a sound stage so it will never be perfect, but it would be nice to have "relatable" programming like SNL actually demonstrate just how great some of these musicians are. Taylor still sounds good (especially considering how much her voice has grown and strengthened) but its so echo-y!

Christine

Baby Tay looks exactly like Andrea!

Nicole

Justice for the side pony! I agree with Bonny about them low, but also some people could absolutely pull off the hgiher side pony, and I think we should let them as a society! Perfect for driving tbh

Jana Fuller

I’m so pumped to get into these

nikki

Most Americans definitely do not find SNL funny. It is extremely hit or miss depending on the cast and writers on staff at the time. It also often tends to peak during election season bc the jokes basically write themselves. But some iconic skits and characters have come out of this show so it has had its moments. Most people I know only tune in when someone they like is hosting or performing.

Kelsi Ford

they don’t make eye contact because they are reading their lines off screen lol, and SNL is always 80% misses and 20% gold 😅

Ali ❤️‍🔥

Wait not the tiny little ACTUAL twilight clip hidden in that skit

Ali ❤️‍🔥

Also, as an American who regularly watches snl, it’s VERY hit or miss. There’s usually 1-3 funny skits per episode (in my opinion). I think they try to appeal to lots of types of humor so I think most people aren’t into all of it lol

superscarf

Saturday Night Live (SNL) has been around for 50 years so it’s safe to say people like it. In that time it’s launched a ton of careers. Some of the funniest have actually come from Canada. The show is 1.5hrs so yeah, not all sketches will land. They actually do a dry run and make changes (pull/replace sketches) before the actual show starts. They also have recurring characters or sketches based on their popularity. I got to do a studio tour over the summer. It’s basically the same as it was in 1975 including lighting, cameras, and stages. SNL has had eras based on the cast and usually people tend to base the show’s success on their fave era. I can see why some people may not like it or get it, but I’ve always found it generally funny. 🙂

Adolfo Ocadiz

Guysss! SNL alwayyyyyssss has 2 musical performances per show (except for All Too Well 10 min version) which means you missed Taylor performing Untouchable when she hosted: https://youtu.be/c-HyjjS_3Y8 !!!!!!!!

Mariah Galle

SNL used to be quite funny, imo, but a lot of my favorites aren't on the show anymore and I don't watch unless someone I like is hosting. With a show that's been running as long as SNL has, there's going to be lots of misses!

V. Babida

LOVE THIS SERIES!! It was also so fun to fathom the first SNL performances in January 2009 where Paul & Amos are present and then to the one later that year where Mike Meadows (another OG band member) was present (he’s playing the banjo in YBWM) - I know he’s been with Taylor since Fearless tour so I went back and looked up when the tour started and it was from April 2009 to January 2010 - so she played those first SNL performances a few months before the Fearless tour began - likely before Mike Meadows was hired. Hehe super fun to fathom this!

Anne

Loved this xx

Erin

This was really fun!! I’m American - I find some skits on SNL funny and some not. I agreed with you completely on these.

Karo

They all read their lines from cue cards so they don't every look at each other

Lisa Adams

Please remember doogie houser, md, NPH first tv series! I loved Doogie and NPH before and after he came out!

Jenna Bolmgren

I’m pretty sure the guitar she plays during Monologue Song is the Betty guitar 🥹

Ellison Hughes

so, off topic, but I’m in the us….can I ask where New Zealand in in regards to Australia?…there’s a show, Deadloch, that I loved, and not trying to sound but they sounded Australian but I think it might have been New Zealand …idk, anyhooo geography was never my strong suit and just wondering what that relationship is

fatin

As a Game of Thrones fan you sooo right😂😂😂

Andree

Fun video! Looking forward to part 2

TScout

Saturday Night Live has always been extremely hit and miss and has always lived steadily in the “stupid” comedy realm. Its writers and cast have often spoken about how “the dumber the better” is often the goal. It is also notorious for being rewritten constantly all week until airtime. A product of this constant reworking is that the cast and actors have to read the lines off cues cards because there’s no possibility for memorization. So they can’t look at each other. 🙃 Most people romanticize the show of the past because they remember former cast members as stars in other media and have selective memories of the sketches that worked. The show also airs in the middle of the night and benefits from the sleep deprivation of its audience. It’s honestly kinda a miracle that the show has lasted as long as it has, but at the same time there is no denying the raw talent of the dozens of stars it helped pipeline during their careers. All of this is just to say that you are not alone in your response to the show or its humor. And that you might be better off watching future SNL eps late at night with a glass of wine. 🍷 It might be more enjoyable.

Takara

I just read Frankenstein last month and I cannot explain the fire thing. I think they had to just come up with some kind of thing for him to freak out about vs Edward freaking out about her scent/blood

SharonM

You guys should also react to Travis’s SNL, he hosted and has some funny skits 😂

watchingjacob

snl really is just an American staple, someone said already its very much hit and miss. when it good its great and when it bad its awful. its too bad these particular skits with Taylor aren't really top tier.

Shed

I'm rewatching Ted Lasso at the moment, perfect timing! Great to see these, I've only seen the monologue before so this was tons of fun, cheers guys :)

Nicole

oooo im excited for this series !!!!

Madison Jones

Many of us find SNL deeply unfunny -An American

Emilie

please react to Travis’s skits!! they’re actually really funny

Alexandra Bennett

This video made me realize I don’t find SNL funny - An American

Liza

Your Phantom mention reminded me! Have you seen the comments on ALW recent post from Jonny Bailey and Rachel Z….. hmm are they going to be in Phantom together?! Omg..I hope so.

Hannah

Not sure if you missed the last part of the interview skit, but I think the funniest part was the end when they splice together everything she said and make it seem soooo dramatic and make her say things she didn’t even say.

Olivia✨

As an American, I can confirm that NO lol, we absolutely do not always find SNL skits funny😅 in fact I rarely find them funny, there are just a few diamonds in the rough that just so happen to be hilarious lol! But those are rare gems

Erica

Bonny, just have Ari lick your peanut butter spoon before you wash it! Dogs love peanut butter!

Karen Valentino

Almond butter for the win. Preferably crunchy.

Laura R

The vibe with SNL is that because everything is written, blocked, and performed in a week, so some sketches are great & some are flops. Just kind of the name of the game. Also, they're reading cue cards; that's why they aren't looking at each other. Sometimes they can block the sketch so that it looks more like they're looking at each other, but because they're all sitting next to each other on the View, it probably wasn't possible to make the cue card reading less noticeable.

Tessa

We are neighbours - is the Australia bigger country and then New Zealand is a smaller country down to South East but there is an ocean between us - just under 1000 miles between us

Ferone

The first SNL video we watched on this video is like the only time Taylor has ever used a barre chord in a guitar performance which is crazy to me

Eric Chaney

Flawlessly stated. I came here to say just that but you nailed it perfectly.

Lily

SNL is definitely hit or miss for Americans as well lol

Leander

Paul really oathed the shit out of his guitar and said, ‘Taylor, I will shield your back and give my life for yours if it comes to that. I swear it by the old gods and the new.’ ⚔️🎸🙏

Michelle G.

No snl is not funny to all Americans.

Jen H

What happened to the patreon group chat?

Samantha

This is probably nostalgia talking but I feel like the last time SNL was consistently funny was the Amy Poehler/Tina Fey era.

Brittany DeLara

I’m an American and I have no idea what they are talking about half the time and definitely don’t find it funny. Please don’t think we’re stupid. lol

Beth

Obsessed with when Emily repeats a word 🤭 yes yes. Simply simply. Haha love it

Rebecca Ryan

No, Americans do not find this funny 😄

Belle Murray

American here that does NOT find SNL funny.. lol

Taylor Massey

SNL is mostly not funny but will occasionally have a skit that hits, like 2-3 of them in the entire season.

Samantha

I agree with everyone, SNL skits are hit or miss. I don’t watch anymore unless I like the host. If you haven’t you should watch the top skits with all the greats cast from the past. The Amy, Kristen, Tina, Bill, etc… days!

Lanie woods

Store your peanut butter upside down!

Ellison Hughes

idk is 1000 miles not a lot? not trying to be rude, I just don’t know…are y’all related?…at the end of the day, not a big deal, but just curious….im from Texas and drove to Colorado once and out of a 9 hour drive we were in Texas for 6 1/2 hrs of that, and my friend got really peeved, every time I ask are we still in Texas…again, I don’t don’t do geography…I mean I feel like I always know, but then I’m wrong

Shay2theT

I’m an American and feel a little bit of faith restored to see all these comments saying that they don’t think SNL is funny. Most people I knew in those years loved it but I could not understand why.

Dominic Cuomo

One thing about the wedding skit I’m imagining in the future the DJ say “ I’d like to introduce everyone for the very first time Mr. and Mrs. Kelce-Swift” sorry if I made anyone cry I’m cutting an onion right now poor timing tbh

Charlotte Irene

SNL is occasionally comedic genius, but mostly quite lame.

Boy mom swiftie

The current drummer joined during red tour. Original drummer left to focus on his family. He is the one that assembled the original band. So he is responsible for Amos and Paul.

Boy mom swiftie

They read queue cards, that’s why they don’t look at each other

Meghan Carty

Yessss! Also this Kristen Wiig character was recurring and quite popular, so it's funny for that reason as well.

Meghan Carty

People like to say that past years of SNL were funnier, but it's usually because we are only really familiar with the highlights from those seasons (unless we were actually watching them week to week, in which case you're more likely to vibe with the humor and sketches when you're a bit younger). Past cast members talk all the time about how many sketches from those "golden eras" flopped, we just don't see those sketches anymore.

Andrea

God I love a random series

lindsey swann 🦢

Another American here - SNL hasn’t ever really been that funny to me 😅 they have a few skits that sometimes hit but at least 90% are misses.

Jennifer Ortiz

Omg Bonnie I just unlocked a core memory and it’s that I ALSO HAD THE SILVER SCARF!!!!

AF

You should watch and react to Rent!!! There is a film of the Broadway show, not the movie!

SwiftViewer

Peanut Butter creamy or crunchy?

Prue

Paul would whack someone with a guitar for Taylor

ShayMarie

I think the drummer didn't want to tour as extensively with his family. Maybe I'm wrong. But, I remember seeing that somewhere

✨ Jenna ✨

You muuuuuuust see RENT! Especially if you like Idina Menzel!

Gabi

i think only older americans like snl, especially modern snl is the absolute pits imo

Hoostock

Could you also cover the CMT where she did Thug Story

Ryan

Ommmmg @ Brienne of Tarth
