Chickens, I just want to express how grateful I am that you both get to do this full time 🥹 Getting so many videos from you every week is such a BLESSING! You are the bright spark in mine and so many people’s lives and you bring me and us SO MUCH JOY. Thank you 🙏

Kirstie

Currently catching up on last night’s live and now this drops! Back-to-Back Chicken videos today?!?!! What a blessed Thursday 🫶💖

Almq

Oh something you wanted to say, patient zero is a post trauma version of girl at home. I think both deal with girl code, however girl at home is her not allowing herself or the other girl to be treated that way, patient zero she did allow herself to be treated that way and is not willing to let another woman be. They’re definitely not twins, maybe not even siblings, but I see a cousin-ship there

Bloom

Superior chickens...have a blessed day🤩🥰

Almq

This is sooo random, but omg I’ve seen you in a comment section before. Nice to see familiar chickens 🐓🐓

Carolin

Bonnyyyy I think the color looks so good on you! 🫶🏻😍

Katie K

I love how Emily’s already had 3 different hairstyles this video and I’m only 5 mins in 🤣🤣

Jaxs

We are being fed!!! Loved the livestream too you give me such joy!!!! I’m getting my cd today a gift from my new love and he’s looking into booking a room at the Chelsea hotel for my birthday!!! Superior

AmberB

Back to back, seamless chatty chats transition whilst I’m at the gym! What a BLESSSSED day!!

Annika 📍Melb, AU

Omg hi Almq chicken! Yes I have been here for many years and I am never leaving 🥰😆

Lisa

I don’t remember what it was on but she definitely did a live performance of Betty?

Sleepymoo

The CMAs one year I think

GreenEyedChicken

.....maybe the table is a metaphorical representation of the distance between them in their relationship, with them being on different ends of it...?

Sleepymoo

I like the emphasis on songs not being about one specific person - it really downplays what Colin called her “significant creative engine” to reduce everything down to one person. I do think there were elements of past relationships - all writers draw from their experiences - and I think there probably was a chase with JA (she talks about cat and mouse for a few months for example), but I definitely done think any of the things she sings about are just about one person.

Gia

Emily, we really need to be knowing what your brother said was an appropriate amount of biscuits per tea ☕️ 🍪 🤭 ❤️

Khalil

Me during my hospital shift when the notification popped up and ofc i’m taking my break and watching this with my coffee asap

Jackie

I think “I bet he burst into your life like fireworks” = “rare as a glare from a comet in the sky”

lovinlorne

It’s 3am here in LA, and I’m up with a sick kitty. So grateful for my chickens to keep us both company. And Bonnie, the color of that shirt looks offensive, in the best way possible, with your skin tone. You are GLOWING, girl.

Emma

Unrelated to this video (so excited to watch btw iiihhh) but if you ever wanna react to a movie, I recommend TICK TICK BOOM!!! I feel it beautifully explores a lot of the things you’ve talked about recently and also just the holding on to your spark even though doubt creeps in cause of the negative sides of it or others bot fully getting it yet. And don’t worry about the video being long, see it as a watch along for us so keep the entire or absolute most of the movie in the edit and it’ll be like we’re watching a movie with you, don’t be hesitant to pause and talk if you want to just cause the time like just do your thing and then when we get the video it’s like we have a movie night together

Antoinette

Emily! I’ve only watched one minute of this vid and I’m mildly offended by the scotch finger not being split in half before being bit 🫣😅

Kenzi

wait did i miss something? what did dylan do that made him not superior? im very much not online so i totally could have missed something

Katie K

Taylor performed ME! on The Graham Norton Show May 2019 - but we know how much she liked to perform that song at that time 🤣

Katie K

Bonny, I have seen that the plaid dress comes in other colours! A warmer brown tone and a green shade as well 🫶

Jennie 🐍🖤

I found it interesting that “conversations with friends” inspired this song. lol

Jane

I just need to point out again what someone else on here said bc it fuuucked me up that Dakota brings two roses to the cemetery and puts one on Taylor’s grave but still has the second one in her hand and that that could mean she killed him and is going to his grave next idk if that’s just obvious but I loved that detail

Emma

About the table. No the table isn’t a replica of the eras tour table, don’t think that was ever the point. But the whole scene of a long table and them being on either side in a cold lifeless room is really reminiscent of the set up at the eras tour for tolerate it. I don’t necessarily think she like is omg hinting at specifically this and so on but it’s just an interesting observation that when creating the visuals for both these songs her mind went to a similar place whether deliberately or unconsciously both songs seems to hold similar emotions in some aspect, that it resulted in her wanting to/ending up visually represent it in a similar way😊

RL

(THIS IS ALL HYPOTHETICAL) I feel like if Joe had friends who were women who he was hanging out with alone, and perhaps Taylor wasn’t 100% comfortable with, perhaps Joe’s caveat to that would be like “Well you’re at the studio with Matty Healy and all them? am I not allowed to hang out with MY OWN friends too?” Even though the circumstances between the friendships could’ve been completely different, cause like we don’t know. But like you said, I feel like a lot of her songs can draw inspo from more than one person or experience.

Andrea S

"fever dream high in quite of the night/you know that I caught it" --- "when the fever turns a dreamer into a pathetic ghost"/. I also think a lot of her songs are a mix of her previous men -- but a lot of this feels like a peek behind the curtain of the Joe dynamic. Lol maybe? Edited to add: I love your content sooooo much, you're my first stop for any Taylor analysis. Fuck the haters. You are the sun ☀️

Janie

Maybe she’s just leaning more into the fictional story? An amalgamation of bad traits found in many men, not any specific one, and the lives of the women who have had to tolerate them? Perhaps that’s why the table is there? It’s a call back to a feeling that we can all recognize? I’m not sure that the ghost of loves past are a feature of the showgirl era unless it’s about the industry and the penises that have run it for so long?

2026-10-12 04:00 Re: Patient Zero and Joe connection. I think the song is about what a lot of women go through in relationships with guys who behave in toxic ways and she draws from her own experience with many different exes who hurt her. I think the video is of a narcissistic abuser who makes a woman question her sanity. It’s fiction - but might be inspired by certain personal relationships in particular. I will not paternity test, but I think parts of why we feel like some of the song and some of the video are specifically inspired by Joe are for example: “When you saw another woman stepping out of his place, bet he kissed the rain off your face” - during the beginning of their relationship she was so insecure about him committing, their relationship in general and specifically constantly worried he was cheating and was seeking reassurance that he wasn’t. (Call it what you want, The Archer, Cornelia Street, Delicate, Peace, Afterglow, The Great War, So long London) Who are we to say whether or not the cheating aspect of this was real or imagined? If he did cheat and lie about it, it would certainly feed into this gaslighting trope of making the woman question her sanity (re: poisoning, saying she drinks too much). The man also belittles the woman saying he’s embarrassed by her and they fight a lot. In songs speculated to be about Joe, Taylor expresses feeling small, not appreciated or sad (blue) or even sick, a functioning alcoholic, in her relationship with him. (Paper Rings, Tolerate it, Peace, Hoax, Bejewelled, You’re losing me, Fortnight, Fresh out the slammer, I hate it here, How did it end). About the "free solo social climb”, Joe was undoubtedly brought into social and cultural relevance because of Taylor, who helped him get many opportunities, and very clearly supported his career. Joe not bringing attention to Taylor publically but still reaping all the benefits from the career opportunities probably helped him stay “cool” and maintaining the kind of artistic credibility that people don’t want to extend to a mainstream pop star. I’m thinking of “Honey” and “finding ways not to praise me.“ Just some food for thought.

Janie

I think of showgirls past..especially the ones that paid a heavy price…like from Judy Garland, Dorothy Dandridge, Marilyn Monroe to Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears? Unfortunately, she has many to choose from. Then if we go deeper, it kind of feels like a retelling of all of women’s history, and the men who have impugned their reputations or attempted to erase them altogether?

Janie

Maybe the book Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés and Dakota’s pointing towards it in an interview could be pointing to that? There are stories in it that fit some of the songs on this album…which is so cool but feels like just one layer of a delicious lasagna…or an exquisite turn of a kaleidoscope? 😊❤️

RL

She’s also invisible in the Delicate MV ✨

Mendy

Bon not every song is a Matty song HELPPP

Anna Mehrbilder

to me, the scene with the car is clearly a reference back to delicate, but in this not to joe as a person or to this relationship but to the feeling(s) she describes in delicate - the delicate beginnings of a new love, the joy, the not-knowing, the endless possibilties the open-ness of the story. I love finding out how stuff relates to taylor. but she has always a level of artistic abstraction that turns it for me immediately into something broader than "only" her experience. it is always a FEELING and feelings are complex, pulling from our past, what we heard from friends, what we read, what we saw in the streets, the cinema, the tv. so using a table like that - "tolerate it", using her being on the hood of a car - "delicate". but to me she is describing feelings and not telling us, who did what to her. to me, this is so clear that I am often rather perplexed when people discuss it in terms of "this is about joe" - it is always more complex because taylor is more compley, feelings are more complex.

Deb

The guys who were in their "showboy era" are Travis good friends. One is an NFL quarterback, one is a retired hockey player and one is a businessman. The three couples along with Travis and Taylor were in the pictures Travis posted last year of them all vacationing together in the snow of Montana.

Cerys

I truly don’t believe he was that important…every time I think about it it gives me the ick 🤢

Eirini

I think that there are elements of both MH and JA, and that is kind of the point imo... that it is indeed about the dating environment rn... it's about a stereotype of a modern man, and she probably dated people who had all kinds of red flags and just culminated everything in this song... it's a collective experience of women, so the man is a collection of exes or just men she and her friends have met

Ileana Isabel

Lovely notification to wake up to!!! I was only expecting the live post 🙈🙈🙈Will be watching later, thanks for feeding us chickensssss💓💓🫶🏻

Yanet

Is Bonny saying "Betty burst into your life like fireworks?" or did I misheard it coz of her accent? because those are not the lyrics 😅🫣

labyrinthpeaches

I love that Patient Zero, both the song and the video, have made people feel seen, I've seen so many posts online and tiktok videos with loads of comments of people just sharing their similar relationship experiences, like Emily sharing how it made her remember that day on the beach! It just shows how powerfull Taylor's storytelling can be

rachel long

Austin is kinda like how Jesus had siblings like how do they feel

Jamie

WAIT HOLD THE PHONE!!! why are we shading DYLAN o'brien ??? 😭

Jamie

yes pls tell me 😭

Yanet

I agree with you. I also think that because her relationship with him was so private and we didn't see them interact with each other as much, it's difficult to pin point if he was truly this type of a man or not but if we deep dive into her loves songs about him with can definetaly see the cracks and not so good parts of that relationship.

Renee S Smith

I don't think this is about Joe. This one is just general storytelling.

Riley Swain

Oh my goooooodd this is such a good movie

Hunter

Yess so true 🫶

Linds K

I commented this on the YouTube reaction but I like to view Patient Zero as not being about one specific guy/relationship, but more as a message to the fans and using elements of feelings from many past relationships. Think of the girl she's singing to (who has called her up) as us, the fans. Us calling her up (she was expecting our call) could be a metaphor for us turning to her music in times of a breakup to help us get through it. Us “partying with someone who might know” is us listening to her music and this song is her being like "whatever you’re going through, I’ve been there, and I have a song for that feeling”. I can't remember them all, I just feel like there were quite a few lyrical references to past songs that were all about different relationships so it made me think this wasn't necessarily about one specific past relationship. There’s also a Dear Reader tie in the lyric “it’s not for me to tell someone else what to do” - that’s giving “never take advice from someone who’s falling apart”. Thinking of this song in this way also helps me tie it to The Life of a Showgirl era in general because if she’s reflecting on the Eras Tour experience and the reception of that album, she would likely be thinking primarily of her music and her fans who appreciate it, and that shared experience.

Rhonda

The shirt is an Easter egg and so is the snake on the tombstone in Patient Zero! Thank you Bonny! This song is not about Joe A! He has never charmed anyone, much less her family and friends! If anything, this song and video has a lot of All Too Well references and even from Better Man with the Run in the wine at the end. She talks about she’s done the reeling and healing and prayers…and someone who had him and walked away etc. But …more likely about conversations with girlfriends and especially ones that may have touched on dating men like Jake, Joe Jonas, and John Mayer etc. I saw a dumb post on YouTube on how Joe A is so over this song and upset with Taylor. Imagine Joe expressing displeasure over this song, but not a peep when Midnights was released!!!LMAO

Dana Stevens

This song is really interesting looking at these lyrics from a music industry pov. She was Patient Zero for Big Machine.

Astoria

I think it’s definitely about Matty. We know he ghosted her but we don’t know if he later tried to get her back during the early Travis days, (which seemed to be regular occurrence for them). Only this time, it was different for Taylor because they had gone public, and she felt ready for it to be all time and he ruined it. Plus “Still at the cemetery, never really buried” and her dying on stage and Travis bringing her back to life.

Alexia 🫶🏻

The comment about Taylor’s parents being present. In Billie’s documentary The World’s A Little Blurry, there’s actually a moment where her mom AND dad separately do kinda bring this up. Billie’s mom explained it how you guys did, how she’s so surprised more teen pop stars or just young stars have parents who aren’t present and involved in their child’s life during this rollercoaster. And her dad brings it up in the way of needing to allow her to still be a kid and make mistakes and grow etc cause the film took place when she had gotten her license finally and was driving by herself. And I too think of Taylor a lot in that way. Can’t help but wonder is she so amazing and grounded and has a good head on her shoulders BECAUSE she had her parents around her consistently through it all?

Ashlee

I desperately need to know what "the question speech" is, somebody HELP

Laura carter

She literally says ‘release the tv’ meaning debut?

Nicole

Love both t shirts! Colors look great on you. Also, was hoping for more on the music video 🩵💛

Brittany Fitzgerald

Felicia made a lot of the points I would about the JA stuff, so I won’t repeat most of those. There’s also the Tolerate It table. The fact that she said “the house represents the coldness of a relationship that’s faded and atrophied”. There’s also the fact of the award show scene/dress being reminiscent of the 2019 BAFTAs. There is actual solid evidence that he used to belittle her when she would make jokes in front of people. Todrick told people he saw it, which might be why she’s not really friends with him anymore. But it does tie to the Peace lyrics about her “wasting his honor” when she’s talking shit with her friends. Also so many So Long London references, the grave reference, the two rose (two graves one gun kind of thing). The cheating that is referenced several times in JA songs. I personally think she could be referring to multiple people a little/inspired loosely by books/movies but the strongest influence is Joe. The Free Solo Social Climbing is 100% giving JA. I just think there’s a lotttt of evidence in lyrics (both this song and the past songs) that JA could have been not great to her to say the least. It’s personally a little triggering for me that he’s being dismissed as the inspiration because he’s “boring”. While I agree he seems boring, I know guys like that can be abusive. My ex of 7yrs, who was my abuser was a quiet around others, artsy, private, boring kind of guy. Believe me, they can be absolutely terrible. I know that’s more of a me thing and you are absolutely free to see it how you wish. I just get frustrated as someone who felt physically ill after watching this video for the first time. Love you guys, and usually feel sooo seen by you but I just have to take a step back for a little while when it comes to discussing this song maybe.

Ashlee

1986 - 2022 is 36 years old, and how old is Taylor right now? 36, so maybe she is telling it as the ghost's perspective, how she is stuck back in time (2022) but continues to age, presently, so therefore she is 36 ?? all guesses

Bobhog

Could someone please fill me in, what happened with Blake on the I bet you think about me shoot? The interweb tells me nothing. And how do we know they’re not friends anymore?

Alexia 🫶🏻

The only two things that I am aware of are one, the possibility of some of Gracie’s songs being about him. If I’m remembering correctly. During an interview for a film he did He mentioned he had a trans sibling “and I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world”. The sibling later said they hadn’t heard from Dylan in almost a year and hadn’t even contacted him on his birthday or after his surgery but he was “But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more” 😬

Ashlee

you guys have GOT to watch Dakota's Vogue youtube interview - the SNL monologue with Taylor will make more sense

Cassandra

Gracie’s song “cool” is about him that’s a good place to start 😂

Cassandra

But he’s married so hypothetically he should not be entertaining new girls. And Taylor would not write this for gabbriette lmao fuck that girl

Deborah Lee

Make-up scene: quick flash of Taylor’s face

Lively_Ash

I am curious as your take on the Swiftologist since yall went on his show and he’s gotten even more vile towards Taylor

Astoria

He’s married now, but not in the early Travis/Taylor relationship days. He also could’ve messed around with miscellaneous girls during that time before really settling down with Gabriette who knows

Spin and slide

I don’t know if anyone has fathomed? But in Taylor’s last interview (Icons/Grammys) she was wearing a green dress with two black roses from the grave 🤡

Richard

Maybe Taylor is waiting for the tour coming up to perform songs from Showgirl. I hope.

Geneva

Wait, what hate have you guys been getting?! Did I miss something?!

Nevara PUMPKIN Shaw

I think she's pieced together all the narcissistic boyfriends from the past and has fictional story telling weaved in. Fireworks = John Mayer, Bathing in your reflected light = Jake, Halo = Matty, Dying = Joe. There's more in them but those are specific references to specific songs directly tied to them. I'm sure there's a lot I didn't catch but let me know if you think that makes more sense.

nikki

Love you chickens! I think we have to remember Taylor saying she dislikes the paternity testing and, “That guy didn’t write the song; I did” in her NYT interview. I interpret that as her saying we should not interpret every line as her simply relaying what a guy did or said because that isn’t giving her credit for her storytelling and creativity, if that makes sense? She is a master craftswoman and world builder who draws inspiration from her own experiences, sure, but they aren’t literal translations. She is excellent at building a whole story around a thought or feeling common to the human condition and crafting the songs in a way we can all relate to, as we all know all too well. 😉 I get the curiosity we all have bc it’s human nature, but I really do not think this song is a diary entry.

Cassidy

i really need us to collectively remember taylor JUST said please stop saying this song is about this man SHE wrote the songs please we are better than this 🙏 (i am speaking to everyone not just bonny and em btw)

Cassidy

ps i like that shirt on you bonny <3

Cassidy

her music is sooo much more important than trying to pinpoint which ex she’s writing about and we are simplifying her as an artist by insinuating that her songs can only be about one ex or one experience please i feel so passionately about this i need every swiftie to wake up

Cassidy

thank you nikki, you always put my thoughts into a much more clear and eloquent way than i can LOL and it’s so reassuring that other swifties are on the same page regarding paternity testing

amanda

I think the song and music video are much bigger than romantic relationships.

amanda

Also interesting context that Scott Borchetta is like obsessed with racecars/driving fast.

Paloma Bennett

Those three guys that are in their “Showboy Era” are part of Taylor and Travis’ LA friends group.

Paloma Bennett

I think “Patient Zero” is about a bunch of Taylor’s past relationship and conversations she has had with her friends. I for sure think Taylor is referencing her relationship with Joe in the song though. I read different lyrics being about her specific relationships with ex-boyfriends.But I agree the music video is its own thing and it’s fictional.

Spin and slide

They are the husbands of Erin and Cryssia….NFL commentators! Love their podcasts

Jennifer Maureen

Joe isn't doing anything wrong by dating it's just so odd that hes fine in public with all these other woman, but wouldn't go out often with Taylor or say nice things about her

Jennifer Maureen

This honestly reminded me a lot of her songs about John mayer 'i bet he burst into your life like fireworks' --- 'raining like fireworks over your sad empty town' etc.

Jennifer Maureen

That lyric actually made me think of John Mayer and dear john

Erica

I truly feel like people that are focused on this being about joe or matty are not understanding what a motif is… Taylor loves a motif!!! Saying “I was sick of you” doesn’t always mean this has to be about the same person she once wrote “I was sick of you” about in a previous song. It is a common trope or theme or motif!

Katie LaFave

did you guys see the pics of taylor and trav in nyc for his bday?! figured you filmed this before those pics came and was sad it didn't get discussed during the livestream

Katie LaFave

i actually love the color of that shirt bonny!! same with i love the blue showgirl sweatshirt

Cassidy

exactly! people get so stuck on what was said in other songs. i could go through and point out EXACT words or similiar phrases used in songs that are very clearly not about travis and songs that very clearly are so the argument that “this song about this person references THIS so therefore this song is about him too” is immediately disproven.. for example in the fate of ophelia “pulling me into the fire” is used as a positive metaphor for travis but in songs like loml, i know places & style fire is used to represent a bad thing in love

Kb8248

One of the funnier observations in the video is that on Taylor’s grave there is a wedding photo of Taylor and Colin and someone said that was Taylor Easter egging that you will see her wedding pics over her dead body. 😂

Annie

do you guys know the lore about Joe and his coworker from conversation with friends? and him being a "social climber" is nothing but JA...cat and mouse, the cages, towers, being locked away is so this house/set coded....I am not a huge fan of bringing muses into any conversation about her music, but if we're going to pick one, lets not pick M in this one 😭 Edit: everything Felicia said in her comment. she worded it so much better. ALSO I LOVE YOU GIRLS. I JUST KNOW THIS HATE WILL TURN INTO OPPORTUNITY. ITS TRULY FRIGHTFUL ON THE INTERNET RIGHT NOW. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING UP ANYWAYS. YOU ARE SO LOVED AND SUCH A LIGHT OUT HERE IN THE TRENCHES.

Jennifer Maureen

I don't think show for you was meant to say she's doing a show as a performance. I think she just used that line and the words show for you were the only words with o's in them to replace with 0's

Katie LaFave

yes taylor and dakota have been friends for a decade as well!

Katie LaFave

dang it you guys paused and missed her saying that the last day the video was filmed was the 13th!! so we know it was march 13th

Kenz

Wait, I might be out of the loop! How do we know Taylor and Blake aren’t friends anymore?? Didn’t we think Cancelled was her way of telling us she was? Catch me up please! 🙏🏽

Katie LaFave

the cinematographer is oscar winning

Karen Valentino

My favorite songs of Taylor’s tend to have a lot of ambiguity: double meanings, etc. That’s an element I love about this video. As you said, it can be interpreted myriad ways.

Katie LaFave

well in the fortnight video there was the book that said us on it....

Katie LaFave

i feel like patient zero gives joe and matty vibes cuz there's lyrics that fit for both! like bonny said the 2nd verse lyrics remind me of matty and some the bridge lyrics give joe!!! yes i agree with you guys that overall i don't really think of any of taylor's exes when i listen to the song

Kirsten Cooper

I feel like we don’t know for sure that Madi left her clearly in the smallest man who ever lived. He ghosted her however in Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Markous she says you needed me but you needed drugs more and I couldn’t watch it happen so I think the second breakup was initiated by her.

Alexia 🫶🏻

The car scene was worse for me personally than ATW short film dialogue because nothing is scarier than being in a car with a man in the thickness of silence. The silence, not yelling, the speeding. Big no for me.

Karen Valentino

Have we jumped the shark with the Easter egg hunt?

Katie LaFave

this is why i feel like in the future we could have a problem where taylor will release breakup type songs and people immediately go to joe or matty when they easily could be inspired by her friends experiences or movies/tv shows/books!! do i think taylor will touch on the joe relationship again yes, but it doesn't mean that every sad song will connect to him!! like dbatc is a perfect example of a breakup song being about no one

SuBin Kim

Honestly people can say what they want about Dakota’s acting, but she did her thing in this MV. She was also good in Suspiria. And I personally don’t think she was that bad in Materialists🤷🏻‍♀️. Even if she was a bad actor, I want her to keep on making movies just to watch her during the press tours. The press tour for Verity has been hilarious~ 😂

Miss Lee

taylor has definitely been with a number of problematic men with narcissistic tendencies. starting at a very young age when she was a child all the way through her early 30s. there’s no world in which a song like patient zero is about ONE man or one experience SHE alone has had. that defeats the point of patient zero being a shared experience and a common one. everybody wants to talk about matty and joe as if the all too well 10 minute short film doesn’t exist. as if those viral pap photos of jake screaming in the car with taylor beside him expressionless don’t exist. as if dear john & would’ve could’ve shouldve don’t exist. as if that one year relationship with calcium hydroxide that she still refuses to write about for the most part never existed. like please whyyy is every song either about joe or matty. this isn’t to say that joe and matty are better than those other men more that they are all bad 😂 at the end of the day they are about her anyways but my point is that songs like patient zero are most likely about a bigger picture than just one man she’s dated

Fever dream high in the quiet of the night you know that I caught it -> when the fever turns a dreamer into a pathetic ghost -> my beloved ghost and me d y i n g ??? Hello

Cassidy

i really feel taylor is making it intentionally more difficult to paternity test her music. patient zero is a story almost anyone can relate to especially women and that’s the most important part. not which of taylor’s exes may have inspired it. when she comes out with the song calling out the fans obsession with paternity testing (like but daddy i love him and how did it end?) i will be front row

Camila Dejesus

The Joe conversation is so fascinating! When I first listened, with the Tolerate It table and "And walked away" line, I'll admit I thought this was about Joe. Even if not everything adds up, my main reasoning is we actually don't know all that much about their relationship. I never viewed him as a cheater or social climber, but also maybe he was! We have no way of knowing because she only shared really that slow decline of their relationship, and subtly alluded to potential cheating in some songs (he was with her in dreams). She could be processing that now. I will say that I find it interesting that Joe was never seen and never wanted the spotlight when he was with someone who guaranteed it, and the moment they publicly broke up, he started being photographed with women. Maybe he does want to be in the spotlight, maybe he liked the benefits she gave him. I don't think the worst of him; I just know nothing about him.

imgonnagetyouback

I think time gives perspective to this relationship that's why tolerate it and patient zero gives different vibes. In tolerate it she's actively in the relationship she just thinks he doesn't see her or care enough to be bothered but she sees it all as it was once she healed from it that it was actually killing her. We don't know enough about joe to form an opinion either way but I'm not inclined to believe the goodness of a Pisces man lol. Also him belittling her around their friends moaning his coworkers name during a shoot then throwing a birthday party for another woman doesn't help his case. He definitely tried social climbing but wasn't successful. The general take about the award winning successful man part is that she's alluding to the Grammy he won.

Tay04

My thought process about the having him and walking away COULD also allude to how you talk about 'walking away' from an accident. Like there was a car accident but she walked away from it, or she escaped death in a sense. i know it doesn't make sense with the video where it alludes to her actually being killed and being a ghost that then warns the next woman (that's how i see it) but if you wanted to talk about how it could be about Matty Healy one could look at it in that sense.

Katie LaFave

i just love the double meaning of the cleveland shoutout in the monologue cuz obviously we know the connections for taylor and travis, but also mgk is from cleveland

Katie LaFave

she just put the zeros in the caption cuz she didn't wanna change it and there were only 3 zeros in that sentence

CyrusNomadix

Watching Taylor so involved with Collin and Dakota and remembering Taylor's character death in Amsterdam gave me a good chuckle for some reason

Brooke Byrne

YESSS about the “replacing Blake w Dakota” conversations, as if she’s “replacing” an assistant. Whyyy are female friendships compared to each other on a podium?! First second and third, gold bronze and silver friends. Females don’t have to operate a friendship hierarchy 🙄 It’s that constant wheel of keeping women competing. Even with the Blake falling out, she has other friendships she’s been close to. Are people out here suggesting Abigail is “replaced”? If you do a project w Ducky, are you replacing one another? Ugh! I have a few friends I’ve had since kindergarten plus some close teen/adult friends, & if I’m active with a certain friend over another during different periods it’s FINE. 🙄🙄🙄

Heather Williams

Omg, Come in with the Rain is in my top 10 Taylor Swift songs!

Jackie

I think it’s fair to say that Patient Zero is about her and her friends’ experiences in relationships and that there isn’t one muse, however, this song to me is about the slow death of long term relationships. And that with hindsight certain behaviors from your partner look manipulative/abusive/etc. especially because you can see/hear about him enacting similar patterns with his new partner. And you don’t really get to know the real idiosyncrasies and modus operandi of a manipulative/narcissistic partner without really living and experiencing the ups and downs for a long time. Plus, it would make sense why she wanted to work with Dakota on this mv specifically, because Dakota also ended a long term relationship recently so she and Taylor might have evoked some of their own experiences for the mv. Idk I think everyone is entitled to their interpretation and that will always come with personal bias because it’s easy to -and you should want to - interpret songs to fit your own circumstances and experiences that helps you process. But trying to look at the lyrics and mv objectively and without paternity testing someone specifically, I think the song is more of a slow death of a person over the years of being with a person who drains the life out of her (with literal and metaphorical poison = planting the seeds of doubt in her head that she’s too much, she’s the one who loves humiliating him, she’s the liar, she doesn’t know how to slow down meanwhile he’s literally slowing her down with his poison, etc.) and warning the current victim of his manipulation “you’re not crazy or going insane, this is just his m.o. and pattern to get you to stay regardless of how he treats you, but you can still walk away like I did”

Samantha

Stop it those Monte Carlo biscuits sound AMAZING

Shenee Sanchez

I understand the current fandom feelings towards “paternity testing” songs, but I do sometimes think it helps to know which relationship made her feel these things in order to fully grasp the meaning of a song. To me, Patient Zero seems to be about the slow dying of a long relationship, not something that burned quickly and fizzled out abruptly. I think the song that most parallels the relationship depicted, specifically in the music video, is Dear Reader. “Dear reader, if it feels like a trap, you're already in one. Dear reader, get out your map, pick somewhere and just run,” could be the thesis for Patient Zero. I’m also not saying the song isn’t about multiple feelings or situations. And she said the inspiration came from discussing similar experiences with her friends. But to me, Taylor’s writing always comes from a grain of truth from her own life experience and I think Dear Reader is the key to this one.

emely

The first step is denial. Haha, I do think it’s a collective experience—a warning for women—but the part about death, about feeling trapped and insecure, really reminds me of Joe. So many songs on *TTPD*—like "So Long, London" and "Fresh Out The Slammer"... I don't know, I listened to *TTPD* again after "Patient Zero" and it was... striking.

lyntara

it's the speech she gives right before playing question live for the first time in foxborough in may 2023 lol - when she was being delulu about her relationship with matty healy 😭

Maryn

i think "show for you" was just because those were the only words with the letter O in them unfortunately

lyntara

i think the biggest indicator is that blake didn't go to her wedding... and we never have photos of the two of them together anymore...

Kenz

Okay fair! There is a chance she didn’t want to be photographed and came in through a secret way and was at her wedding, cause it’s not like we saw photographs of every person in attendance since they said it was over 1,000 people.. unless someone verbally confirmed that she wasn’t at the wedding??

emely

Girls, Emmanuel "El Chivo" Lubezki is a huge deal; he is the only cinematographer in history to win three consecutive Oscars (*Gravity* in 2013, *Birdman* in 2014, and *The Revenant* in 2015). He is a genius when it comes to lighting, and he has worked on high-end films and commercials—not music videos—so if he agreed to this, it must be for something very special.

F1Swiftie

Bonny, I agree with you that this isn't inspired by one experience, but many of her experiences. Some of it about Joe, maybe Jake, Matty, Calvin, plus her friends' experiences. I don't know how the lines about being on a solo social climb or wanting everyone to love him refers to Joe since he is known for being such a private person, and never talking about her in interviews. People complained about them not being out together very much, and then say that he was a social climber wanting all the attention? That doesn't compute.

Dawn

The scene in the car is awful for me. I had that relationship. Not the guy accusing me of drinking too much, but using a car he was driving to make points in an argument, and not caring that it scared me, and getting mad that it scared me.

Wendy Horrell

I truly believe PZ is just an overall relationship experience she had with multiple men over the years… little from this guy little from that guy with a few friends experiences throw in. It’s just such a universal topic that a lot of women go through. Something she really hasn’t done before theme wise and inspiration hit and she ran with it. I was thinking about how it’s had the zero like this ( ) and her name has been in it for a lot of the promo. It makes me think of Taylor’s versions and I’m sure looking back through her old songs really made her think about her dating experiences which could have lead to this type of song. Everyone wants to say JA or MH which I’m sure their sprinkled in there but the scene in the car saying she’s stutters when she lies and the stuttering on Promises in Pink Clouding… we don’t hear much about CH but I feel like it could be experiences from him too. Like he did that one interview when they were dating about how he wouldnt collab with her but then did the Rihanna song Taylor wrote but she didn’t (or maybe he didn’t want her to at the time) put her own name on it. That was a big hit for him so the free solo social climb could be how she felt he didn’t want her connected to his work. I just think nothing is pointing directly at one person. She mentioned about not paternity testing songs and I think this is one where it’s just not needed. Yes it’s probably her experiences but just in her overall dating history. Focus on her experiences not the stupid guys who don’t deserve the recognition. Sometimes I think people want to go after these guys and they want the juicy details of what they did but she’s healed and moved on. She’s in a reflected space of having learned a lot and now can give that advice. It’s interesting how in Midnights era it was “don’t take my advice” to then Showgirl having a few songs where it’s good advice/lessons she’s giving us.

P.R. Dayvonne

I think as Taylor gets older she gets better at songwriting by drawing from multiple relationships and even different types of relationships like in hoax to the point where paternity testing just becomes irrelevant. Or how she draws from movies/books/her friends' personal lives - Taylor's just so good at composing a themed narrative that the personal inspo sometimes doesn't add to the song. But I also think it's more Matty than Joe lol

Stephanie Pieper

2021 she visited Joe in Ireland. At that time there were cheating rumors about him. They spent their vacations there and loved up. At the end of the year she wrote You are losing me. If you listen to Renegade, Tolerate it, Peace, Hoax. Even in the beginning she always blamed herself. Talking shit with my Friends it’s like wasting your honor. This song is so Joe coded. Look at the plates in the background. If he‘s killing you I see you = I knew he was a killer and ICU = CPR She stopped CPR. She was eating out of the trash= maybe an on/off relationship for many years? She stayed to see him smile once a day? I guess she used the opertunity to escape with MH and he really didn‘t know how to handle this?

Dawn

Also in cruel summer she says killing me slow

Ally Blair

The girls won’t notice Cara standing right behind Taylor in a music video but will notice their Close Personal Friend Scott Swift in a blurry background

Gi

I think sometimes it's nice to forget the actual men and just enjoy lyrical connections. Like whether or not you think it's about Joe there's a lot of "Joe" songs that have cool parallels.

Yasemin Turner

I wasnt convinced it was about yoghurt boy until I read Taylor's caption on instagram "The house was a metaphor for the coldness of a relationship that’s faded and atrophied." That can only be one person in her life I am sorry

Jenn Hamel

On a free solo social climb is 100% Joe Alwyn coded

Rachel Ariel

So if we all kind of agree Pink Clouding is about Tom Hiddleston, then what about Patient Zero being inspired by Calvin Harris? Maybe that whole time of her life was on her mind when writing these songs? Like maybe that chat with her friends about the phone call from a girl happened and it made her reflect on a man like that that she’d experienced - Calvin Harris. And so she wrote Patient Zero and then naturally reflected on her time with Tom Hiddleston to write Pink Clouding.

Lauren

The other thing I’ve seen that’s interesting that you guys didn’t get to is that Dakota keeps a rose for herself at the end of the video (one for Taylor and one for herself)

Macarena

Do we find it random that Taylor says is the final day of the shoot and is the 13th? We know it was Friday the 13th but could that be something?

Macarena

So it was either 13th of feb or march

Danielle

Yeah, other than the 'sick/death'... I do NOT feel any Joe coding at all. It's about toxicity. It's SO Matty/Jake coded. Feels like an amalgamation of the more narcissistic ones. That said, no one has acknowledged that I pointed out that the CAR he got out of was an Aston Martin. What she's written about Joe was more... detached/depressed/over it. He didn't MAKE her sick. She likened the sickness to the relationship simply passing away without him noticing. I think death of a relationship is WAY too vague to ever pin on a single man. But yeah I don't think it really MATTERS as much as the message. It doesn't seem to be directly tied 100%.

Kirsten

I stand with Bonny on the patient zero inspiration, it does feel personal and for the people at the same time.

Honey

Watching the Patient Zero behind the scenes reminds me of you both in your BHS vlog when you were showing us how you plan, film and edit your videos, and how meticulously you do all three. It therefore makes so much sense why you click so much with Taylor and her creativity ❤️

Renata

“narcissists create the problem, then blame you for it” this was SO incredibly put bonny and exactly the crux of the issue and i just want to invite you both to go back and listen to her catalogue from rep-ttpd and take note of how many songs came about in that time where taylor puts all blame for all problems on herself 🙃

Cici O

1986-2022 is 36 years - is it possible she just took her age now and pushed the birthday back because the first wife would have been dead for a few years?

Listen to So Long, London!! 🖤🖤🖤

Krispy

I don’t know if it matters who it is I’m with you. My mom who is in her 50’s who is not a swifty brought up this song and said she was seen by Taylor, relating it to an abusive ex-husband. She said the music video brought her to tears.

goldenaugust

not to paternity test, because i don’t think that’s productive, but the second verse is very joe to me. we’ve learned through the great war, so long london, and fresh out the slammer, the black dog (correct me if there’s more), that there’s this misterious “her” that she talks about in relation to joe. so i definitely think he cheated at some point, and that’s what she’s referring to with “and when you saw another woman come out of this place”. in the outro, she says “take it from someone who has him and walked away”. from what we know, matty didn’t cheat on her, he ghosted her.

goldenaugust

this 100%! i don’t like that he’s being dismissed and overshadowed by the matty healy of it all.

Lizzie Johnson

Seeing the comments about this video the meaning of PZ has been quite eye-opening for me in how different Swifties can lean into meanings of songs, which I guess is partly layered by people's own experiences. I appreciate you always trying to take a balanced view of what's happening whilst not presuming anything that Taylor hasn't made publicly available information :) I do think there could be something in there as subtext/second meaning pointing to Vigilante Shit but I don't think that was the inspiration for the song. If anything, it felt like she was leaning into the concept and thinking that Scooter's ex-wife fits kind of perfectly with this narrative, so definitely a possibility that she was being cheeky by throwing those gravestone dates in hehe

Brittany Fitzgerald

Thank youu!! And I’m of the belief that a lot of the TTPD songs are about both of them simultaneously (with others possibly mixed in too). She did say it was “out of the oven and into the microwave” it was a similar experience just the Matty thing was sped up. And I also think some of her other exes were really bad in their own way, I swear every thing we have heard about CH is frightful. He’s never in the conversation though it seems. Like Matty suckedd obviously, but this video and song is giving longer/live in relationship. Not two week situationship (that had been a long time coming for 10 years).

Krispy

I think the “who walked-away” line could still be about Matty even if he ghosted her in the end… they had an on and off relationship for a decade. she always had hope he would come back to her. It’s like in Peter she says the women “turned off the light”. She maybe still fells like she chose to leave it all behind her in the end. she told her self no matter if he comes back into my orbit I’m done.

Jenny

To me TTPD has always been about both J and M. The prologue to me just proves it (microwave vs oven metaphor). A lot of the songs are cleverly about both men (like loml). I think reducing it to only 1 men is to me denying the true genius of TTPD. Both were similar in that she envisioned her entire future with them and at the end they failed to deliver on those promises, whether litteral or implied. She grieved both of those relationships in that album. That’s why to me Patient Zero to me just screams TTPD in the sense that she died (twice), hence the 2 flowers at the cemetery and the twin imagery. To me yes it portrays her and this other girl but also those 2 ghosts of hers. One died with J the other with M. She wishes she would have seen that at the end of the day she was going to end up the same way. But that’s just my interpretation

Lilly

I’m not sold on the idea that it’s about Joe, it just doesn’t feel right to me, I think maybe her experience with matty and frightful man inspired it a lot but i genuinely think it’s not about a specific person and more about the idea and the concept

Jenny

I just wrote the exact same thing haha yes agree with you Brittany!!

Jenny

This!!

Kiki

Bonny could it be that there is some projection happening because you are unfortunately dealing with a tortured poet yourself, which is why you are inclined on Matty being more of a muse than Joe?? 🫣 i would totally understand that, but don't let it cloud your mind 🥰

Jenny MacRunnel

I think the song and MV are fictional, but she's drawing on some of her experiences and just amplifying it. I do see a lot of where this could tie into Joe--it always made me wonder why she stayed for 6 years when it seems like she was so miserable. The only somewhat happy songs we got were from Rep, everything else seemed filled with anxiety and insecurity, which is how you'd feel with a manipulative narcisstic gaslighter. It would make a lot of sense if he was a little more like this type of person behind the scenes. We just didn't see it. Some of this also reminds me a bit of Calvin Harris, especially the social climb part.

brenda 🌸

Thankyou for all the content girlies. I love watching while doing my makeup in the mornings or when my bub is asleep and I need a “blob” sesh as I call it ❤️

Megan Nash

I think this song is pulling inspiration from past relationships and feelings, or even just the general crap women go through with men, and might not be specifically about ONE person... but with that being said, I don't get Matty vibes AT ALL.

Barb 🔆

Oh yes that is frightful

Barb 🔆

Glad she was proud of it!

Luli Swiftie

Around 48m of this video you Guys talk about how the guy says that the ex was the problem… “It’s me hi I’m the problem it’s me” and Jack’s verse… I think that she told us alredy but her tone is more understanding and loving because she is IN the relashionship… Peace?! Your integrety makes me feels small… Tolerate it? I take your indiscretions all in good fun and Also Use my best colors for your portrait… and the drink think?! Soooo many songs that she makes reference beeing drunk. She takes the blame at the end… Afterglow… Hey it’s all me in my head… Sorry that i hurt you… The Great War… and beeing Sick I don’t need to say it… https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSbsDHUv7/ please Watch this

Katrina

I’ve always loved Colin Farrell, and watching him in a video for a song from TLOAS feels surreal considering he was super close with Elizabeth Taylor before she passed…obviously Colin is perfect for this video regardless, but I wonder if that friendship crossed Taylor’s mind at all.

CyrusNomadix

Two British accents equal one Irish accent, maybe?

Never forget Haunted Acoustic RIP

Michelle

😂 I’m also afflicted with the disease of thinking its all about MH - i had one of those on-off-again, love-bomby, best-friend-future-husband guys that tormented me for my entire 20s lol. She was obsessed with this guy for TEN YEARS, and we think hes nothing?? After listening to TPD? Nah he was everything to her and she couldnt even tell anyone. Girl was crazy. He sucked to us, but she has been writing about him a LONG time. #my own personal thoughts and I dont need anyone to share them #or flame me for them 😂

Marisa

I also agree this isn't just about one person. Although I do think the line about being just the chase is pretty Joe-coded. "Cat and mouse for a month or two or three" "Now he seems bored by you and you don't know what to do"

RL

Yes!! There’s also a table like this in the Me! MV!!!

Christine Violet

One thing I’ve started to feel more and more as Taylor puts out more music, is that I think she used multiple muses and mixes together multiple relationships into her songs… especially since writing Hoax and getting advice from Aaron on using multiple experiences to create one overarching story. I feel like a lot of songs in TTPD could very plausibly be about both Matty and Joe, that having both of those relationships so close together made her realize certain themes that were the same in the two relationships even if one was more drawn out and the other was very fast (out of the oven, and into the microwave). I also feel like a lot of her songs might be inspired by a certain person or situation, but that the details or imagery are embellished, taken from multiple experiences or made up. Considering she keeps a huge note document that she will often scroll for ideas, also could allude to this.

Liza

omg hahahaha

lisa f

I’m enjoying seeing you guys in your og showgirl merch 🥰 its reminding me of end of last year all the orange and mint green and you guys getting ready to move into your new place. Like wow how much can happen in a year?

Wendy Davis

Just think about how long her band, singers, costumer designer (Joseph), Tree, tour manager, set designer, etc have al been with her. As well as sticking with her producers, Max, Shellback, Jack, Aaron. She collects other artists along the way and is forever collaborating and building with an ever-growing family of artists.

Wendy Davis

...still alive killing time at the cemetery, never quite buried...

Chevonne

I don’t think this is necessarily more matty than Joe! The key is that matty doesn’t have a halo and an adoring public. And I’m sure Joe did feel like fireworks at the start!

Gabi

I completely agree with Bonny, muse talk always feels reductive to me when trying to figure out the message behind Taylor’s art. I am sure muses play a part but it’s so fun to explore theories that go way beyond that

Allie

Oh my god I was desperately hoping this video would exist because I SIMPLY CANNOT STOP FATHOMING the Patient Zero music video

Celina Sharp

If Joe didn’t cheat why is there a lyric in Fresh Out The Slammer that says he was with her in dreams. what girl was in Joe’s dreams? Joe and Taylor may have been both guilty of wanting someone else. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sarah (not in her sunday best)

Bonny….you need to let the “sh0w f0r y0u” go… she just turned every “o” available into a “0”

Chevonne

Bestie sh0w f0r y0u was never an Easter egg 😂 she was just making any “o’s” in sight zeros!!

Wendy Davis

I URGE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART to watch STERLING POINT WITH US. I know you've already announced Off Campus, but IMHO, there is no comparison. So.......after Off Campus, please check out Sterling Point. It is way less act-y, much deeper and more soulful, amazing actors and a really real and intriguing story. UNBLIEVABLY SPECIAL SHOW. Also great music. Can;t wait!

Holly

Omg did not pick up on that

Allie

This explains hoax, another woman coming out of your place. This explains fresh out the slammer and one hour of sunlight. And he is the only one who has a halo. No one would say MH has a halo

Amy Sawyer

I do think Joe was a serial cheater and especially for the first few years he did not make it official (similar to the guy in babylon)

Courtney

this has nothing to do with this video but I'm seeing Tucker tomorrow and I could not be more excited

Courtney

bonny your hair looks great!!

Allie

This connects hoax, no body no crime, fortnight and my husband is cheating, you're losing me, everything

Re: the 1986 birth year discourse, Taylor reportedly revealed to Capital FM Radio (stated in a Billboard article) that she was inspired to write Patient Zero when her friend told her she had been reached out to by a new girlfriend of an ex of hers. I think whichever friend inspired the song was born in 1986 (maybe Este Haim or Lena Dunham) and maybe their relationship ended in 2022. I think it could be more simple than people are theorizing…

Courtney

I could listen to these chickens talk about anything for hours, thank you girls for the superior content as always ❤️

Jenna Bolmgren

I’ve never disagreed this much with you two with your breakdown (it does seem like you’re refusing to see the signs “I gave so many signs”), but that’s ok! The person(s) it’s about isn’t the point. I don’t think the song and the mv are the same storyline. It’s pretty certain it’s another rendition of the Rebecca story (Daphne de Maurier).

Clash Fan

Taylor preformed on Graham Norton during Lover era. I mean she performed a lot of places during that era but I don't remember her performing on any other late night shows during that time.

Steph

I wonder if not performing showgirl is intentional because it’s the album that’s about behind the scenes and not the show itself, if you know what I mean?

Tara Ludwig

The Blank Space video also had the "tolerate it" table and it's from years earlier. Our girl just likes the metaphor of physical distance equals emotional distance. Lol.

Tara Ludwig

I also got JM from "lost your games but won the race." And JG from "he charmed your family and friends". Yeah, I think she pulled references from all the toxic existence and used language we'd immediately recognize from previous songs

Tara Ludwig

Yikes! Colin's character clearly has a type. Taylor, Dakota and Cara look so similar in t he video. I've seen so many reaction videos and literally no one catches Cara during the "another woman coming out of his place" lyric even though her face is clearly visible (for about half a second). It's not until the party that most pause and say, "Is that Cara Delavine?" LOL.

Tara Ludwig

I hear a new theory today which was when Taylor was on the speeding car, she raised one side of her dress, covering the driver's side of the windshield. Taylor caused Colin to crash the car, killing him. The 2nd rose was for him.

Tara Ludwig

I know nothing. Why do you think something happened at the shoot? She and Taylor were seen out and about publicly after that time. I think the song Cancelled! has some Blake and Ryan references in it. If they're on the outs it bc of the court case Blake was involved in and inadvertently pulled Taylor into the drama. I hope they're still friends but are keeping it on the down low so Taylor isn't effected negatively in the press.

Tara Ludwig

Yes to the other commentator. She said she was so happy and her life finally made sense. Matty was there that night, I believe.

Cassidy

there is apparently songs/lyrics gracie abrams and sabrina carpenter have written about him that don’t necessarily paint him in the nicest light. it is very possible if the lyrics to gracie’s song are true that him and sadie sink (of the all too well 10 min) were involved somehow and he did to her what he did to gracie, and other girls. just so you know all the lore. i’d look up the lyrics to “cool” by gracie abrams. maybe it’s all speculation 🤷‍♀️

Cassidy

nothing happened on the shoot. blake was the director of that mv. we do not know they are not friends anymore that is only speculation. i personally believe they have maintained a friendship that is not seen in the public eye anymore to protect them both from media. i can’t see a world in which taylor writes a song like cancelled then turns her back on a friend that’s been cancelled lol

chatsandreacts

Omg 😂 he said he tries to have 2-3 per tea but used to have up to 6 😂

Gia

I feel great about these ratios 😆😂

Tara Ludwig

The girls are talking about Colin's character as a "successful business man" but we only see him after he stole Taylor's billions. We only see him as a man with power and prestige once he's rich. To imply he's a "social climber" means he was beneath her to start with. Obviously he bought a Very Nice engagement ring but who's to say he didn't use her money to buy it in the first place.

Jane

Omg I love that theory!

sydney

Love u chickens

Mandy BNE 🇦🇺

Bonny, I have the same shirt and actually really like it 😅 It looks great with a sparkly short black skirt! 😁 There’s another theory about 1986–2022…2022 minus 1986 equals 36, her current age! So the theory is that Taylor “dies” again this year with Rep TV, just like she did during the original Reputation era with “The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, ’cause she’s dead!” 🤡🐍

Rose Ellen

Her description of the music video house was a big thing that made me feel like the video is inspired by her relationship with JA.

Rose Ellen

I think the song and the video don't need to be about exactly the same relationship or story. Like the song feels a bit zoomed out, it's bigger than just one relationship or experience. But the video is zoomed in on a more specific feeling in a relationship.

sleepless_dream (Lauren)

I'm so glad to have your videos, I'm really struggling a lot lately & your videos and the chats here have been such a nice reprieve from the chaos. 🩷 thank you both 😊

This may be a little bit on the nose, but it is interesting that the architecture style is a very distinct design concept. It is Brutalist architecture and Joe was in the movie The Brutalist. But I think there's elements of many different scenarios in several of her relationships. I just think that there is no singular paternity for this song. It's a universal experience for all women.

Laura Pacheco

i’ve been thinking this too lol

Bobhog

Maybe I misunderstood but the chickens said that it’s nice that Taylor’s still happy to work with friends even after the I bet you think about me video. So I thought something happened there.

Bobhog

I see, thank you. It didn’t sound like speculations so I thought something was known.

marta k.

i think patient zero might be in a way a response to people preferring depressed ttpd taylor, struggling to connect to showgirl songs. i read it as „i know what it’s like to be depressed, i’ve been there, i wrote songs but i still remember, I’ve got you, i’m in a better place now so if you wanna party to showgirl songs with someone who knows what it’s been like on the ttpd side i’m here for you.

Caroline Turner

Thank you both so much for making these videos - I am having a really crap time atm; it’s been a hard year with big family stuff and friends have sort of dropped like flies and I feel v misunderstood (Rep Era) x

Adriana

Would love song breakdowns for The Encore!!! Even if it's just Pink Clouding and Babylon? Like I get what the songs are about, would just love to fathom more aand a breakdown lyric or line by line would be super helpful. Love ya chickens!!

Adriana

And I know "staying in bothered by the haters" was said and I love that for you both, however, it miiiight, help the haters fathom too, or they can stay oblivious to the creative genius that is our Queen and it could just be a Patreon vid ❤️

RL

Yes!! The Quarterback is Mathew Stafford from the NFL team The Rams!! His 3 daughters are HUGE swifties!!! 💗✨

K

I went down the wikipedia rabbit hole and read that Colin Farrell used to kind of date Elizabeth Taylor?! very confusing and intriguing information

Annika 📍Melb, AU

This started auto playing again and I felt called to say that I LOVE the way you start your videos! It’s so organic and it’s like we are there with you! Other creators would cut out the “I stomped on her foot” or “use ya door then girl” (to Ari) but I love that you don’t!

Genista

Did you see that someone from hear posted this on tic toc !!!!!!!!!

Julia

Hi!! I'm new here on patreon and I just wanted to say thank you so much for your videos and sharing your thoughts with us. I am already a big fan of the work you do (I watched your moving vlog - i LOVE your energy so much) and within the cruelty of the internet I feel like this is a real safe space for positivity. Sending so much love from germany🥰

Honey

Loving alllll the Taylor videos! I know it’s a busy Taylor period but will you be reacting to Phoebe Bridgers new album? Also I really think you guys would appreciate Audrey Hobart’s album it’s so uplifting and relatable!

Kelli

Yes! I love that they start a lot of their videos with “cold opens”

superscarf

Me as soon as the video started: OMG Bonny’s shirt looks so good, I should’ve gotten that one! Bonny shortly after: I’m wearing the world’s ugliest shirt today. Me: 🥹

Anna.98

I can't remember who said it right now because I watched a lot of patient zero reactions but dakotas hair is held back by Taylor when she sick and Taylor has her hair tied back because no one is there to hold it for her, just interesting thought that stuck with me

Mikayla

I think she’s relating all of her relationships into this song. The “fireworks” lyric reminds me of Speak Now. I think it’s referencing all relationships in this. Because that’s what this song is about— her being able to relate to people who are dating her exs

Macarena

Girls you need to see the possum sticker! 🤣

Jade

Guys this is just about men in general… don’t you think? All men

Jade

Unbothered Queens NO ONE will dull your shine, ever!!! Ty you for always making me happy xx

Alexandra Bennett

I 100% think this music video / song is not about her personal life at all but just a way to express her creativity / storytelling

Diogo

Reminder: it’s The life of a showgirl even tho we decided it’s showgirl. We are getting the life of a showgirl (behind the scenes) not the actual show. Love you chickens

Alicia

okay Bonnie i will listen to the call of Midnights 🙏🏻

Jenna Bolmgren

Did anyone else notice the 1–2 second clip in the behind-the-scenes video that looked like the Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me graphics from the Eras Tour?? That cement-y, spinning part with a window?

Christina

I liked it too! And it looks comfy and is the Showgirl color I think of even though the emoji is ❤️‍🔥

Christina

Omgosh and now she just said it’s the ugliest color! Totally having the same experience as you 🤭 too funny

Cynthia

amazing talk; film is definitely coming! All the hollywood people they have brought into their lives; it will be like this music video for sure....a story through a woman's lens but with so much cool stuff and like this video men will be cheering too....

Maggie Tallman

Totally agree with you chickens, patient zero is so much more vast and universal than any one relationship or moment in her life

Jane

these past few years, people have gone overboard with the "lore" and easter egg nonsense. it's like people don't know how to interpret art with nuance anymore

Lauren Thompson

My original thoughts upon listening were that Patient Zero was about Scott Borchetta and that Babylon was about Taylor’s dad Scott

Emma

I want to like this comment cause I agree so much but it happens to have 113 likes right now and that just felt too good so I’ll answer it instead😅🤭🫶

I think my nichest flex in life is having heard the Question speech in person.

I think there were reports at the time that Blake & Ryan weren’t in NYC when the wedding took place. I agree we don’t know anything for certain tho.

Why do Taylor "swifty fans" keep repeating nonsense about LOAS being a "weak" or "poorly received" album? Taylor's Showgirl album has sold far more units and had more streams than any of her other album in the same time period. The album and Encore has three number 1 hits and 10 top 10 hits. Artists pray for this type of "weak" album. Consider that Taylor maybe has reached a new, larger audience (via Eras tour and Travis' NFL world) and some of her old "fans" who were fringe and hung up on "lore" "paternity testing" and "gender identity" may have dissed the album, but clearly her new audience and her established core fans LOVE the album and stream it frequently. It's not like everyone streamed it a few days then moved on. It has had great engagement and streaming numbers for a YEAR. The songs have been added to sports halftime shows and viral moments on tiktok. That is not a WEAK album. That is smash hit folks. Content creators driven by need for clicks like to bait controversy, social media is 50% troll farmers creating alternative realities, and many of the same critics dissing Showgirls were dissing TTPD, Blank Space, Lover, etc (in many cases word for word). Believe the numbers: sales and streams tell us how the MAJORITY of fans are reacting, and they are loving the music.

Jeebs

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to believe she wrote this song about Joe if you’re talking about how long ago they got together. I mean, she wrote pink clouding about Tom Hiddleston.

Dana

Chickens!!! When are we getting our first off campus episode drop ♥️

Aleah Goldberg

She wore plaid because it was the anniversary of Showgirl’s release which was on plaid day (first Friday of October), kinda confirming that Easter egg!

Cara M

Love a chitty chat! Got my cuppa and toast and I’m loving it ❤️ I think it’s really fun to think about Taylor’s visuals and lyrics, in regards to something like her use of cars, as recurring symbols. She’s used cars prolifically through her career and I love thinking about what they represent and how those meanings shift over time. From meeting taylor in a ‘Chevy truck with a tendency of getting stuck’ and her ‘riding shotgun with her hair undone’ to this latest incredible ghostly image of her lounging on a sports car that had just threatened the life of her successor, we’ve come a long way! Vulnerability & youth, freedom & escape, control vs loss of control, Harry’s inability to keep to the road rules… 😆 there are so many ways she uses cars to help symbolise her emotional states. I think it’s much bigger than connecting only Delicate and Patient Zero, it’s a really fun question about how cars have been a vehicle (😉) to show a multitude of ideas and themes. You could truly write a thesis on it.

Cara M

I agree, I think trying to pin it to “a guy” limits the artistry of her work. She def uses symbols to help us see her muses and I have my own interpretation of some of them but she genuinely wants us to be able to see ourselves in her music

I do this too Emma 🤣 when the 13 is perfect! Although it has now surpassed 🥰

I can’t help but point out the long table with people at either end is also in Blank Space MV. I suspect the point is the imagery rather than the fan theories. On a similar note there is also a false commentary that Taylor used the phrase conversations with friends. People are just creating a JA narrative to fit. Glad you guys were open to the nuances of the song a bit more

ton

I will not paternity test. Proceeds to paternity test.

ton

That’s because she didn’t say that

Jennie 🐍🖤

I know she didn’t say those words lol. But the song was inspired by conversations she had with friends is what I meant. That’s why I put quotations 😆

I think for TV A10W was most recent. Before that she was part of Memory for Cats on Jimmy Fallon, she did her Lover set on SNL, she did Lover on GMA and Me on Graham Norton

Haley Haas

Why is Dylan O’Brien not superior? Who did he date that had a song about him? Sabrina?

Haley Haas

Cara is also at the party all over him, Dakota sees and then faints if you guys missed it!

My immediate fathoming of pink clouding was connecting it to lavender haze “I just wanna stay in that lavender haze” which is the cloud props for the eras tour performance as well. “Met the magenta sunrise, fuchsia forever intertwined” reminds me of maroon whatever you make of that. “met me at a cursed time” aka reputation.“Gray rocking where the arrow hit” reminds me of the archer obviously, and in the anti-hero music video where she gets shot in the shoulder with the blood glitter. Also gray mentioned as a feeling or place like London. But on the flipside, I don’t know if she would think that she was a liar to Joe or if she would want to apologize to him, but maybe she did who knows just the timeline of the lyrics I guess it could be about tom or Joe it doesn’t really matter but just thought I’d share:)

Cara M

I actually think that color is gorgeous on you Bonny!! And Emily always looks great in pale yellow

Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes / the devil on his shoulder under his halo

Thank you so much for following through with this lore drop

Hey, fair point! I think I added “not to paternity test” just to emphasize that I don’t think any song is one-to-one about one muse. However a big discussion in this video and this comment section is whether or not Joe could have inspired this song/video at all. Since the idea was largely dismissed by Em and Bonny I just wanted to give an alternate perspective. I still stand by my first paragraph - Taylor has been in the dating scene for a while, as have her friends. She doesn’t need to write a one-to-one story based on just one of her muses to make a compelling song and I don’t think she has. We don’t have to get stuck on one line and say “this doesn’t fit which must mean it is fully about another muse and the rest of the story fills in the gap about what we know of her relationship with that muse”. Nah, she can draw from many different sources. She’s the writer and she is a creative person, and has mentioned multiple times that she also draws from other fiction, books and movies; true crime in this case. I also find it more satisfying to apply the lyrical content to my own life, rather than Taylor’s, although I am obviously guilty of participating in the speculations a bit, like many of us here on Patreon do.

Sarah Clark

I’ve always viewed this song from the lens of her relationship with Scott Borchetta. I think he definitely fits the profile of the rich business man who’s on a free solo social climb. I also think it links well with her wanting to warn other female artists about not trusting these types of men/labels because they’ll eventually get bored and replace you. Even the visuals of the award acceptance and attending fancy events feels like it fits well with that. She lost his games, but ultimately won the race when she got her masters back and reclaimed her work. I really believe she would see herself as ‘Patient Zero’ because she was the first major artists on his label and also one of the first female artists of this generation to fall victim to these toxic men. Some direct lines: “If you wanna party with somebody who might know …” - I feel like I could see Taylor talking to lots of new female artists at parties and giving them advice “When the toxins take their hold you’d rather die than let it go” - The toxins being the feeling of success and fame and not wanting to let go of everything you’ve built by leaving your label “When you saw another woman coming out of his place” - Could be referring to being replaced when a new girl is in the studio “He’s bathing in your reflected light” - Definitely someone who benefitted from Taylor’s success I think there are a few similarities to ‘My Tears Ricochet’ too, especially the themes of death and burial. Interested to know if anyone else has thought about it like this too?

Sarah Clark

Side Note: The news article ‘Heiress Dies of Mystery Illness, Husband Inherits Billions’ - Feels like it could be referencing how Scott made money when he sold her catalogue and ‘buried her’

Cerys

Strong disagree but okay!

ton

Sure, I think a broader discussion of lyrics would include “burst in like fireworks” (dear John), “charmed family” (A10W) use of table imagery in Blank Space MV as well would show a more open discussion than what seems to be a grouped narrative (not yours specifically) of here’s “why it’s JA” … Which is where I feel the line to paternity testing starts for me

felicia

Great points! Very interesting. She is very self-referential in her work, and there’s a lot more interesting talking points than just “Is this Matty or is this Joe”. I think I haven’t seen the group narrative for Joe in my feeds and the girlies were sceptical to it so I was raising that perspective here, but I feel you. My greater point is this song is so cool, because it is so universal! What woman hasn’t dealt with one or more frightful men, either directly or by proximity.

Just want to say I love all your videos and as a solo swifty in my social circles having you guys so happy and chatting about TS fills me with joy. My theory on the gravestone is that 1986-2022 is 36 years and this year on her birthday she turns 37, some people refer to a 30s birthday as “death of my 20s” could it be a weird death to my 36’s? 😂😂 and on her 37th birthday the rep vaults will rise from the crypt/volt/grave ?! 👀👀 …Anyway just a fun theory and I have no one else to share that with so here felt appropriate Keep up the good videos and know that for every hater you’re saving a lonely swifty and making them happy ❤️

Emily

Does no one hear this song and only think of frightful Scott?? Powerful business man, narcissist, bathing in her light, social climb, etc. Plus she did leave him and she DOES help give other artists advice on how to own their own music!

Beldam

girls lock in (bonny i think youre fiddling with the key a bit but youre getting to the lock/ em, love u but please find the door with MATTY written on it in blood) cemetery = LOML = matty the whole "who had him and walked away" line can still refer to matty. theres evidence matty tried to reach toward taylor after the breakup-- the weird guitar thing, also her secret songs, there's a ton there from early 2024. it very well could be that she ultimately chose to walk away. you know men! theyll ghost you and then come running back. i highly doubt that matty didnt try to come back and say sorry or play mindgames with her again after he ghosted her. in the end, she had the final choice and walked away burst into your life like fireworks = matty NOT joe devil on his shoulder under his halo = i can fix him, i.e., MATTY trouble in paradise = makes more sense shes talking to gabby because any of joe's girlfriends are too new, not deep enough the toxins line... thats reminiscent of all the drug related metaphors about matty now he seems bored by you = so many pics/videos of matty seemingly bored by gabby. but also just generally the way he discarded TS when he got bored of her bc she wasnt sexy anymore bc she wasnt forbidden the entire bridge is matty. charming, spotlight, bathing in reflected light, all matty. joe was a hermit, he is NOT the character potrayed in the patient zero MV in the slightest. not to mention colin "looks" like matty/is from the UK "take it from someone who realized shes more than just the chase" = MATTY. she was forbidden to him, he loved the chase, she did too. JOE never chased her. you're losing me is a totally different setting, as in its not even a setting it was a state of mind. her face was grey, she was sick. patient zero reaches the larger universe that was created around taylor and matty by their own selves. they created this world together where they could be together and then it came crashing down. the cemetery call-to from loml is just so so so telling. not to mention the taylor-gabbriette storyline is way more relevant than any girl joe is going to date. the fact that dakota is brunette, taylor is blonde. colin being who he is. they all LOOK the part of the actual real-life counterparts. the song, the MV, nothing about it is joe pink clouding on the other hand------ bingo! i'll never believe its about tom im sorry but pink cloud? lover? grey arrow? the song title itself is yet AGAIN another drug metaphor. pink clouding is about her decade-long addiction to matty (see: swirled you into all my poems, guilty as sin) and how she reached a point where she was pink clouding from the thrill of leaving joe to be with the "love of her life" , matty. also see happiness: "no one tells you what to do when a good man hurts you" // "im scared i left scars on a good person", "left you on a pink cloud". joe is the "good man" to taylor. they had their differences. its sometimes implied that he had eyes for other women but taylor also wrote "your faithless love is the only hoax i believe in" and "somewhere in the haze got a sense ive been betrayed". she admitted to having trust issues too. and she was also in lvoe with matty during their entire relationship with joe, so hey! pink clouding is a candid recollection of this specific fault that taylor takes responsibility for. she was in a relationship while pining for another man, she crossed her heart and hoped to die with matty back in 2014, like two lost kids. she vowed her heart to matty long before she even met joe. and thats beautiful but devastating. she was never really joe's to begin with. she loved joe, i believe that, but she had a secret. don't we all sometimes?

Amber Stevenson

Have you seen the theories that the bridge could actually more be Dakota retelling this story of hers to the next girl? Like she was able to walk away after she found out about Taylor. Interesting thought!

Julia G

I never trust a narcissist, but they love me / So I play 'em like a violin ………. Queue THE VIOLIN 🎻

respectfully, clocked lol

Ester Tamar attias

I personally think it might be about Dakota Johnson’s ex fiance, Chris Martin from Coldplay. It all clicked for me during their SNL monologue, when Taylor joked about being Dakota’s therapist and Dakota showing up unannounced with an empty bottle of winewhich I took as a hint at heartbreak. And, as you mentioned, Taylor said the idea came from a conversation with her friends. I like to imagine they were talking about Dakota’s breakup when Taylor came up with the idea of making a video about it and having Dakota star in it. Maybe it could have been therapeutic for her. One of the first connections I made was the fireworks, since Coldplay is known for using them during their shows. The ring in the video also made me think of Dakota and Chris’s long engagement. That’s not to say Taylor’s own dating experiences couldn’t have influenced it too. I don’t know, maybe it’s a stretch

Brittany Diamond

The girls were so great to take a closer look at it all. The relationship in Patient Zero being a marriage, the house specifically being a metaphor for relationship atrophy (which happens over time and not in one big explosion), in which she is slowly poisoned over time, like every major thematic element relates to Joe. She even specifically says this guy is not the angel that he appears to be, and Colin's role in the video isn't successful himself—all his power and money came from Taylor after she died. I get how bits and pieces can technically relate to others, but the only possibility that fits completely is Joe.

ems 𓆑 . ₊˚ ゚. ✧

personally, I think the origins of the song are true and are more of a patchwork of experiences - some her own, some probably her friends. but I think the video inspiration is very joe-coded. her caption about it on release said "the house was a metaphor for the coldness of a relationship that’s faded and atrophied". she hired some of the most famous actors, including one to play almost what i'd imagine was his perception of himself. colin's character says at one point "you just can't slow down can you" which just makes me think of arguments they could have had. and i mean, bejeweled.

Such a beautiful comment Annika, thank you so much for taking the time to say it! We just adore making these videos every week 🥰

Annika 📍Melb, AU

You are so welcome! 🫶 So pleased that you adore making these videos as much as we enjoy watching them 😍

Mazy

I just feel like shes not patient 0 with matty, so my random theory is it could almost be her thinking of someone like Halseys perspective, someone who wrote songs about this frightful man, and how she understands what she's going through. But then during the bridge it switches to Taylor, her experience and helping the next girl. and just in general talking about other womens experiences.

Alyssa Malecha

I think it’s important to point out that the character Colin plays in the video is only successful because he inherited Taylor’s billions AFTER he killed her. He is not successful on his own. Like even the mansion he lives in, you could assume that Taylor bought it and he inherited that too once he killed her.

Lisa

The kitten heels when he is carrying Taylor, because she couldn’t wear proper heels with Joe.

Anna

Taylor said that Tolerate It was inspired by the gothic novel Rebecca, which is about a woman being haunted by the memory of her husband’s first wife, who she eventually discovers he murdered. So this video feels like a direct dive into that original material!

Prue

I fear this is the most Joe Alwyn song to ever Joe Alwyn but so is a lot of TTPD and people just hyperfocused on Matty for some reason and that has been detrimental to analysis. Because yeah the song is about other people and her understading what they are ging through but she gets it because she as BEEN THERE. Like Joe also came into her life out of nowhere and he WAS chasing her half of reputation is them playing cat and mouse, we know there were other women because she has said so in multiple songs, she was holding on for dear life for YEARS not just a month YEARS, he was using her connections for work while acting like she wasn't even the concept of a person in public and we KNOW she's the one who left him a social climb doesn't need to be public, so many of the things he got he got because of Taylor, the award in the video being the most 1:1 representation of it with the Grammy, she literally changed credits last second so he coudl get AOTY. And the thing is when you go through a relationship that's abusive without the physical abuse that only becomes clearer with time.

Celina

I do think that Patient Zero is an amalgamation of all her past experiences with men

Standing in the Sun

hold on HOLD ON — we know that Blake and Taylor are no longer friends?? how so?

Rachael Wright

Guys im so sorry but what has happened with Dylan o brian what have i missed

Vanessa Lesser

she's also wearing brown in the scene with him fighting, evermore coded

Vanessa Lesser

this could be true...although coldplay definitely had success on their own. so pieces fit but probably a patchwork of relationships for the lyrics. visually the video feels so coded to joe.

Vanessa Lesser

or did Dakota also die and they are visiting graves together as ghosts

Brandon

Personally I feel like there are several reasons to believe it’s about Joe. 1. In “I Did Something Bad” which is from her first love album about Joe, she says “I never trust a narcissist, but they love me. So I play them like a violin and I make it look oh so easy.” And patient zero is about a narcissist and starts with a violin. 2. She talks about being sick of him which goes back to looking for a cure and our maladies were such we could not cure them. 3. She says “when a fever turns a dreamer into a pathetic ghost” it takes me back to Cruel summer when she says “fever dream high in the quiet of the night, you know that I caught it”. 4. She says “someone who knows she’s more than just the chase, someone who had him and walked away” which makes me think of paper rings “cat and mouse for a month or two or three” and she’s only walked away from a few relationships. Joe being the most recent. And 5. She says in so long London “two graves, one gun” implying that he did kill her. She’s also mentioned in songs like The Great War, Fortnight, So Long London, and Fresh out the Slammer that there could’ve been another girl involved. I just feel like it all adds up🤷🏼‍♂️

malory Butters

I lived that car scene for three years straight. I know that man and that scene makes me feel so sick and sad. But I got out and managed to stay alive. This song fucks with me so much…I’ve had 3 girls reach out to me since that relationship ended and I’ve helped them all leave before it was too late

Rebecca

Absolutely!

Mary

How you mentioned you didn’t understand why she has not performed Life of a Showgirl on SNL or any other talk show. For me it’s makes sense seeing that album is really more about her life “outside” of show business, so I think that is why she hasn’t really performed them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jess Davis

why is no one theorizing that Patient Zero could be at least partially inspired by Calvin Harris. it really fits so well

Jess Davis

i feel like taylor and her team have accidentally created a bit of a monster in terms of not only the paternity testing but also the easter eggs and lyrical callbacks. people genuinely think they know what happened in the end of her longest relationship despite the fact that’s she’s actually barely written about it in comparison to her other breakups. i’m not even a joe defender like that but we truly don’t know that joe alwyn is a villain. even if he was a horrible boyfriend for the whole 6.5 years, good people can be bad partners to each other. especially in a relationship that long, it tends to be that both people have hurt each other many times throughout and maybe one person’s actions were more of a direct cause of it ending, but it doesnt make either person bad. plus, we’ve only really heard ab their breakup from songs, and no poet is telling the truth 100% of the time. obviously her stories are mostly true and that is part of the appeal, but she is a storyteller first and foremost, so there are going to be times when she picks what to say based on what makes a better lyric or builds to a better story. and taylor herself doesn’t shy away from admitting her faults in relationships, so i don’t really get why so many swifties insist on the idea that she was faultless in her relationship with joe and therefore he must be evil ?? i don’t think that’s what she wants her fans to think of him. she says in so long london she’s hoping he’ll find someone and still refers to his love as a light in the darkness of the rep era, so i think she views that time of her life with much more nuance than swifties do

Jess Davis

didn’t realize how long that comment was getting sorry that’s my ADHD lol. but i stand by it and would love to hear if anybody else has any (polite) thoughts !!
