it's important to note the timelines of off campus & heated rivalry!! the first off campus book came out in 2016 while heated rivalry came out in 2019!! off campus was announced as a show in october 2024 and heated rivalry was announced in january 2025! off campus was filmed from end of may to early october 2025 and heated rivalry was filmed from april to june 2025! you'll will see that both shows are hockey romances, but overall they are so different

I don’t mean to be insistent (might’ve commented a few times for the last few videos) but I just want to put it in your awareness for consideration that if you ever gonna react to a one off movie I recommend TICK TICK BOOM! it beutifully explores some of the things you’ve mentioned recently and it’s soooooo good and emotional. Has a wholesome friendship storyline and holding on vs letting go of your spark considering all the negative sides of it storyline. And just holding on to your humanity and feeling frustrated with the world and people in power. Turning 30. It has great emotional and funny lyrics and music throughout and I think it just so perfect in like all aspects somehow for a reaction at some point. It’s utterly immaculate and offensive, cannot recommend it enough. So yeah just wanted to say that, please keep TICK TICK BOOM! in mind for consideration for reaction and chats in the future🫶

Ok chickens I do see what you mean about the "thirst trap" scenes, I promise. However, without spoiling too much, I think the show writers did it this way on purpose to give you the ick and make you think these guys suck AT FIRST, so they can they can really show the audience to not judge them based on the "jock" stereotype like the people around them do, because they are all actually really great guys with depth and empathy. I can't wait for you to see it if you continue watching!!!

Honestly towards the end of the season I had to skip through some scenes because they felt so unimportant and drawn out 😬

I agree they will probably like Sterling Point more but that doesn't mean they won't like Off Campus at all. I think they'll eventually really like the depictions of healthy masculinity and female friendships in this show. Plus, there were a lot of people recommending they watch Sterling Point too so I'm sure they'll get to it we just need to be patient!

see i find the whole thing quite cheesy & thirst trappy… i was very excited to watch OC and it was recommended to me but i really don’t like it 🤣 i think its jarring going from TSITP to OC because to me, does not have the level of depth, superior writing etc. as TSITP at all 🥲 To me, it definitely seemed like a less mature show with some of the acting being not great & less complex writing…. which felt super weird considering how graphic some of the sex scenes are 💀 But then, clearly some people who loved TSITP really love it - so i’m very interested to see what the chickens think !! ofc ill be watching the whole thing with y’all reacting 🤪🙏🏼 love being able to share thoughts with you chickens!!

Alternative viewpoint of the thirst-trap scene of the guys working out - I think it actually fits the narrative of the story. At this point, we're in the same boat as the girl who was with Garrett in this episode, they're just hot, muscly jock guys for us to fawn over, but then as the show and the story unfolds, we become more emotionally invested in them instead of just physically attracted to them. I think as you get deeper into the story you'll think back on that scene and think "Oh actually, that would have felt kinda weird if we had it later on in the season"

As a major fan of the show I totally think the "ick" factor and judging a book by its cover factor at the beginning is totally valid! It is one of the themes of the show to teach you NOT to put people into boxes and that they are multifaceted. They do it at a much faster pace than TSITP but give is a little time... you are meant to feel that way at this point! But also I am afraid for my sanity with this. My biggest fear going into this was that they would have expectations for it to be like TSITP and they are NOTHING alike. And I am afraid my worst fears are coming true and they may not like it partially for that reason! I love both shows but personally find OC so much more compelling. The "thirst traps" are intentional to teach you lessons. All of the tropes are also intentional. There are so many easter eggs and call backs to other rom coms its truly an homage to a whole genre. And without giving too much away the way they handle difficult and traumatic topics is beyond realistic and beautiful done. Again, to teach lessons, not just to entertain (Though I think it does both very well)! Okay that was my rant! Dont know if my heart can take them not like it and all the negative takes in the comments 😭 though everyone is entitled to their opinion obviously!!

I love both TSITP and Off Campus but agree they are NOTHING alike. It was my fear the girls would come into this (and others) with the wrong expectations and have it ruined for them a bit. Because Off Campus has so many amazing layers and tells real life stories in a beautiful way. Ive also tried to get into Sterling Point and just cant. It feels very immature and fake to me but maybe I need to give it another shot!

I get what you mean about early thirst traps. 🪤 I agree it’s a bit off putting when you have no character investment, for sure. Especially when the guys are already giving the ick before winning the audience over. I will say though— This ep’s montage seems more in service of the book fans who already know the characters and future re-watchers who will. I think the scene was also inserted so early in the series to demonstrate that Garret’s uber dedication to hockey/training is legit and the show just took the opportunity for shirtlessness. Lol

Just like Heated Rivalry, this one has subtle moments you don't notice at first—only after watching it a few times. In this episode, for instance, when Hannah’s blouse gets wet—and it’s white, so it turns see-through—Justin doesn't offer his jacket to cover her up, but Garrett does. There are several other instances like this in upcoming episodes; they’re those small, easily overlooked gestures that really show the kind of man Garrett is.

Looking back at the conversation that Kendall and Garrett have after watching the entire episode really makes you realize that while the things he’s saying to her come off poorly, he’s not intending to sound that way. As he mentions later in the episode he really believes that because of the situation he grew up in and because he is constantly compared to his dad in the media that he is a younger version of his dad. So I think when Kendall says she wants to be Garretts girlfriend and he shoots her down he’s not only putting up a wall but he thinks he’s protecting her. Almost like he thinks that because his dad hurt his mom, Garrett would end up hurting her. He definitely has good intentions but it’s easier for him to let people believe he’s a jerk so that no one can get close enough to him to get hurt. I hope that made sense but anyway, so excited for this journey even though I’ve watched the show 4 times and read the entire series haha.

the first tsitp episode reaction was so conflicting in that it made me feel unsure if i was going to like you guys reacting to shows. by the end of the third season, i wished there were three more. this show reaction started out very awkwardly, but i know to trust the process now. the side switch reminded me of when you switched the last time to put emily's blonde hair in front of the dark tv screen. now she has a bit of the dark door behind her. switch things up in whatever ways you need to get a hard reset on life. we can handle the adjustment. just chalk it up to living random✌️

It’s very interesting to me that people think you guys won’t enjoy this show because I think this is the perfect show to react to. My favorite part of watching you guys is the really great dissecting of different aspects of the songs/media you react to. Off Campus has so many details that I think are going to become great conversations during your reactions because you both are very good at picking up on small things and reoccurring themes. They deal with so many real things that you don’t see portrayed in media that often and the writing is very well done in that aspect. Every single character in this show has depth, a story, and a purpose and nobody is just “main characters friend”. I’m hopeful that those who commented saying they didn’t like the show will find an appreciation for it with your takes. I know that I find even more love and understanding to every piece of media I interact with when you both talk about them. ❤️

I'm sure 100 other people explained it already but this series is adapted from a book series and the first book is called The Deal (and that's what the first episode is called) and that's why they make the deal at the end of the ep! 🥹 Also I promise I also HATED dean at first and the sex forward trap of it all but it's really to set it up for their ARCs from jock stereotype to amazing men!!! Also yes there are such small little things that are easy to miss!!

I started the first episode of this show awhile ago when all the hype was happening around it and i couldnt finish it by about half way through bc i too was getting the ick SO bad by those douchey college boys. But getting through it with you guys and seeing some of the backstory i hadnt gotten to and then that fairly incredible last scene NOW im intrigued!! Maybe i needed to get through that first episode and it deserved another chance! I wanna try to wacth along with you week by week but now i have non self control and i kinda wanna start ep 2 tehe. Gonna try to resist tho. Im missing the summer i turned pretty too (and the Laurel/susannah element) and i doubt this will live up to it but im excited to go along for the ride!! And i just LOVE hearing what youd have to say. After this Id DIE if you did a rewatch of something you know and love (gilmore girls ahhhhh, or the oc, or outlander or something) and got into the weeds of it. I feel like it would be so cool to see rethomings and to hear what you guys pick up on already knowing the storyline. And to see you talk about character development etc. I feel like youd rock at that and we'd have such cool discussions!! Respectfully, didn’t they mention one of the main reasons they are watching Off Campus is not just because it was requested by a lot of the audience but also Ducky recommended it? Obviously that’s a great friend of theirs who knows them, their personalities, and what they would like better than any of us do, so I’m sure they are likely to end up enjoying the show on that basis. I don’t think it’s a major concern that they did not immediately fall in love with the first episode—that is almost guaranteed when you get into any new TV show.

At first I had the same reaction to the gratuitous nudity and work-out scenes, but I now think of them as world building. Those scenes are showing that the men don't just live together; they are genuinely having a good time doing what they're doing with their friends at this stage of life. Partying, enjoying being hot and young, without guilt. In contrast, Hannah feels stressed, worried, really focused on logistics (of work and study), at times unsafe, in-her-own-head etc. And just like they show us that Garrett is attracted to glimpses of her passion for her music, I think they're showing what can be attractive about him (and his approach to life) for her. Also setting up the Hockey Bro House like such a cliche, sets up viewers for a bait n switch later. Like they're lowering our expectations of these cliche-appearing men ahead of what's to come...

the workout montage doesn't bother me at all! i don't think it matters that we don't know them yet! i think a lot of the scenes between the guys in the first ep are about showing us the dynamics and the friendship of this group! like i love the scene at the house where we meet the other 3 boys and the scene of the 4 of them at the party cuz we get a good glimpse into each of their personalities and they're just funny/entertaining scenes! i also know that with a show like this, there's gonna be character development with the guys! none of them gave me the ick 😂

I promise it does get better though and it's worth a watch! Totally agree on the fact that it's not appealing to show muscle shots if you haven't gotten to know the characters and I am absolutely NOT into the dolphin guy, however Garrett... that is a different story. :D

I'm so glad you guys are watching this! I know some of the boys characters seem a little shallow right now, but they do get layers, just not all at once. This series is based on a book series where each book is centered around one of the boys finding love. I read the books during Covid and really liked them, but I will say that, as of series 1, I like the show better. I think that this show writes young men and masculinity in a very positive way. While this is technically a "romance", I might love the way that friendship is centered in these stories even more for the male and female characters. I cannot wait for the next season but I am nearly as excited for y'all's reviews.

wanted to share some thoughts on the boys' workout scene. I think this scene is meant to introduce the hockey team and show you the dynamic between the boys; and with the previous scenes at the house, they are kind of showing you their lifestyle (each of their roles at the house, throwing parties, working out in the morning, etc) which is very typical of athletes in American Colleges.

Ok love all of this, the take you guys had on first watch was not mine 😂 FOR ATTENTION! Quick suggestion on these going forward if you will! There’s always little things that get missed on a first watch, but we obviously can’t spoil it for you before you watch! Is it possible for us to tell Ducky things in advance that you need to fathom, and these could be a quick reference list that you review at the end of the episode? I know it’s more work, but could be a great way for us to engage with you! And ducky has watched so could highlight the key things! At the moment the only way is for you guys to review comments, but i feel like it would be so much more fun to see those reactions as well, within reason of course! My example for this so would be the line at the end where Garrett says about the deal: ‘you don’t find me attractive and I’m not interested in a relationship’ - so he’s not saying he doesn’t find Hannah attractive! Great quote that was missed in the excitement!!

Maybe we should've prepped you guys for the vibe that this is a girlie hockey romcom book series adaptation... it very much plays into fun, cliche tropes and jock stereotypes with good in them, but the key thing is that it's for the female gaze... hot men written for WOMEN! Instead of slow-mo bikini car washes, we get thirst-trap workouts that are kind of jokes... it sets the tone of a show for the girlies to have fun and ogle lol. And imo, the guys grow on you like male friends in your friend group... you roll your eyes at them for being such BOYS but they're good dudes lol. Plus they're men written by a woman... it's very fanfiction-y, so you can actually have faith in them 😂

I think the key thing with Garrett is that, yes, he's distant and emotionally avoidant, but he and Kendall agreed to be casual going into it. So whether or not she developed feelings, and whether he could've been kinder about it, she's the one crossing his boundaries and almost trying to guilt/pressure him into feelings. I enjoyed your guys' discussion though! I always try to imagine these scenes with the gender roles reversed, and I think we'd find it pretty icky for a guy to pressure a girl into feelings while they're still in bed, after she'd agreed to one thing and set a boundary. Especially when his priorities are his career, grades, responsibility for his team and future (and to be drafted for the Boston Bruins - think Heated Rivalry NHL while in uni is insane... like 1 in a million ). Like yeah, it's reasonable to say, "That's not what we agreed to, and I don't want that. Sorry, but you deserve someone who has time and wants to date if that's what you're looking for."

I'm very intrigued to follow along because I did NOT love this show (literally couldn't watch more than 5 or so episodes) for a whole host of reasons, starting with the weird workout montage of men we had no context for (it's like someone thought the female gaze was just the male gaze on men? no) and I had so many icks pile up that I eventually just turned it off, BUT I always fathom something through your perspectives so curious to see how this goes!!

I could not agree more with you. I just cannot wrap my head around Off Campus. It feels like one of those stories where the writers had the stereotypes in mind first and then built the characters around them, instead of starting with actual characters who just happen to fit certain boxes. The characters in TSITP felt real, whereas the Off Campus characters feel like walking stereotypes. Even many of the plot points, even the chracters' backstories, felt like they were there simply to create drama and give the story some kind of plot, rather than to actually tell a meaningful story.

Mr. And Mrs so and so is about being respectful. I never would dream to call my friends parents by their first name. Only in my best friends instance where I was really close to the family, did I ever call them “Mama Donna” or whatever. I have teens now and would feel awful if I ever heard them calling an adult by their first name. Now it’s more common to mix it, so like Ms. Kayla and Mr. Justin, something like that if someone prefers not to be called by their last name. Also, depends where you are in the US, we didn’t say sir and ma’am where I grew up in NY but now living in TX, my kids are raised to say it whenever conversing with an adult. It’s so interesting how it’s different across the world!!

I ended up getting use to the switched side... Also I will say there's a lot that been said in the show through music and eye contacts and small details if you actually pay attention to it. As for the shots of the boys training in the beginning of the episode it servers two purposes: -To show that training and hockey is their main focus and as much as they are student and young adults that party and stuff, they are also quite serious and dedicate to the sport. -To get you think that you know them in one look and that the only appeal they have, is how they look to then realize that there's more to all of them in the end. I will also say that one interesting thing about the show is how it plays on the clichés of the tropes we've seen in media and TV till now and turns it into something different. Can't wait for you to see the season tho ❤️

Watching this after watching HR is so fascinating! On paper, Ilya and Garret are very similar characters, bad-boy hockey players with dad problems. But the way HR is written has so much show don't tell, whereas halfway through this ep we get a full exposition dump to one of Garrett's fratmates just detailing the issues and pressure from his father without ever seeing it yet. Feels like we're being told a LOT about these characters, not naturally discovering it. Which isn't some huge offense, it's just hard not to notice.

Calling your friends’ parents Mr or Mrs and their last name is VERY common place in the U.S. It’s a respect/manners thing. I’m 27 and I would still do this meeting someone’s parents for the first time unless the person explicitly told me I could use their first name. As an adult, most of the time they will immediately tell you you can use their first name. But as a kid it was ALWAYS Mr or Ms or Mrs.
