Can I just add a little extra Garrett is superior? When Hannah shows up at the house for the orgasm plan we see the notorious party house completely EMPTY and silent. Like Garrett had everyone get the fuck out of the house for the night because he knew that this was a private intimate thing.

As someone who read the books back to back and watched this deeply superior tv show on week one, 5 & 6 are basically one full episode that needs to be experienced together! so logan does get called johnny every once in a while in his book by his love interest, but that's really it! in the first book, it's addressed that because in the friend group there's two johns, that it's way less confusing to call them logan and tucker instead of john or john logan and john tucker!!

I think Logan is more sarcastic than supportive at the rink! “you’re Garrett Graham” is a jab at how Garrett gets everything he wants without appreciating it! the situation with Hannah parallels Logan’s resentment over hockey - the Bruins want Garrett not just for his talent, but also his NHL legend dad, so Garrett distancing himself from his dad comes across as ungrateful to Logan, who’d give anything for the same opportunities! (hence Jules saying Garrett can “afford” the distraction because of his privilege, unlike Logan who doesn’t have family money to fall back on as a Plan B!)

This is my first watch through of the show, but something I’ve noticed with Allie is that she seems to really re-frame her own thoughts based on Sean’s words and reactions. His negative reaction to her agent news made her hesitant to be excited about it when telling Hannah later on, and then she seems very relieved and affirmed when Hannah’s reaction is positive and more in line with what she was looking for from Sean. Then when Sean lists off her “5 Act” breakup cycle, she uses the same labels for her own patterns when chatting with Hannah about it later. I really hope she manages to mentally disentangle herself from his assessments of her. I know a lot of people who love being on stage who have admitted to me that they “crowd source their self-esteem”. It seems like Allie might be one of them. She’s so incredible tho, and I hope her self esteem will become more bulletproof throughout the series

About the way episodes end in the most interesting moment: I watched an interview with Louisa Levy (producer, showrunner) and she was talking about what it’s like - creating a show for amazon prime. The biggest goal is that people watching would click “watch next episode”. So they came up with a “trick” for themselves: at the end of the working script they would write “watch next episode” instead of regular “end of an episode” or whatever. I feel like they definitely succeeded in this goal, I couldn’t stop, and watched the whole season in 2 days 😅

My own life experiences are similar to Hannah’s and even 18yrs removed it still impacts my life in certain ways. I actually did feel some jealousy from Logan to Garrett. Im watching with you guys so idk what happens, but I think it's unhealthy to have such resentment for your friend. Even if he manages to overcome it now, it'll fester unless he does something about it, and eventually that closeness won't be there bc he's not being honest. I feel for him, but I agree with Emily he's getting put on the do something babe, say something babe watchlist. Omg, what you just described-- Hannah thinking that music would be a connection point for her and Justin, as opposed to Garrett being an athlete is the exact same thing Taylor describes about her and Travis in the docuseries. When Andrea is telling the story of how T&T met, Andrea couldn't figure out how to get Taylor to agree to meet Travis, and Taylor says, "I was very non-athlete because I'm not one...I mean, what would we talk about?"

I love the talk you girls had comparing Garrett and Justin and their compatibility, and to add to this I think something special about Off Campus is also the way it challenges stereotypes and subverts expectations even as it plays into all the fun, cheesy romcom tropes. We as viewers, much like Hannah, start with our own preconceived ideas about Garrett and Justin (all of the guys actually) at a glance, the macho, cocky, emotionally unavailable hockey guy vs. the sensitive, cool, artistic writer. Yet... Garrett is unapologetically himself, without pretense, which can come across as abrasive when he's blunt and choosing not to be emotionally available, but he's actually incredibly respectful of women, self-aware and emotionally forthright, with a depth and intelligence that just comes across differently. Meanwhile, Justin is arguably the more pretentious and less emotionally vulnerable and deep, he cares about being a cool guy and how he presents. I love the way the show challenges the ways we misjudge people and our own stereotypes, without either of them needing to be a villain.

Just want to say that I watched Off Campus with no knowledge of the show/books and I caught the Logan crush as soon as he knew her name when Garrett asked (because he'd paid attention to her). Ok, sure he could have just been someone who pays attention and nothing more, but there was something in the glances he displayed in that scene that had me thinking it was more than just knowing her name. So, I don't feel like your experience of the show was reduced by people's comments, but still, I guess it may have been more true to yourselves to discover the Logan crush in your own time, rather than to be made aware of it outside of watching the show.
