Ok so she has that bit in the Out Of The Woods video that says "She lost him but found herself". Also her hair in that video is the same length and shape as it is in this one. Its not styled the same but it is strikingly similar. For the record I have never thought this song was about Harry Styles. Mostly because the vibe is so negative and so different from 1989. Who knows. It will probably be debated forever.

The deciding factor for me when it comes to knowing if it's Taylor's Version or not, is that when I first heard ikywt TV, I fully fathomed how much Taylor was speaking the lyrics rather than singing them in the verses and prechoruses, and that she seems to be actually singing those parts in TV...

That is so weird that it says Taylor's Version but then doesn't sound like it is. I went and checked a few more videos from Red and Fearless to see if they did that, and You Belong with me, WANEGT, Begin Again all say Taylors Version but some of them in the descriptions say copyright Big Machine... I'm not sure why Youtube is not displaying the correct name but that seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Which makes me nervous.

So the guy in the music video is getting 'love' tattooed onto his chest... in early 2012 Harry got 'love' tattooed, on the chest, in the exact same spot. Later in 2012 he got it covered up. And then there's a picture from December 2012 of Harry, Taylor and a tattoo artist... and Harry's fresh ship tattoo on his arm. In the exact same spot as the guy from the IKYWT video has a ship tattoo.

When Taylor received a vma for the IKYWT video in 2013 she thanked "the guy who inspired this song who knows exactly who he is. Thank you so much!" ...while Harry was in the audience. Next day he was asked in an interview about Taylor's acceptance speech, if she was messing around with him. Harry said: "It's alright. She likes a joke. I like a joke."

For me to think this song is about Harry is that Taylor once said something about "performing this song when the person you wrote about is right in the audience seat" after the performance in BRITs award and we know Harry was there. I once thought this song is about John Mayer and Taylor said that was because she's mad at Harry (they just broke up at that time) but in OOTW video she also said she lost him but she found herself sooooooo I think that's quite obvious.

IKYWT was an absolute dive into mainstream pop for Taylor and it was a splendid time! Been so long since I have watched this video and was truly an experience going back and watching it again. (Begin again is by far the best music video from the red era) Always love to see you both!Xxx

so i just watched a yt-video of all her nominations and wins through out the years. and what’s interesting is that she won an award at the vma’s for ikywt and when she held her speach she said ”i also want to thank the person who inspired this song and ”YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE” so thank you cause now i got one of these” 😱 she really felt quite angry wich is interesting..

It's not possible to change the audio of an updated Youtube video, but I think they changed to "Taylor's Version" so the profits go to Taylor, even though it's not the version being played.

It doesn't really make any sense. As far as I know, it's impossible to edit a video both visuals and audios after it's posted on Youtube so it's impossible to change the audio to Taylor's Version anyways. Sorry, I am not helpful but just wanted to share I can't think of any single reason why Youtube does that either.

I know what you mean. I never thought this song was about Harry until recently when I found out about the tattoo/temper trap lyric/secret message in Treacherous and then her interview about Treacherous and IKYWT being about the same person. It completely threw me because 1989 has such a vibe of acceptance of who he was and what the relationship was, and IKYWT is totally opposite. I’m more confused than ever 😭 Em x

I hope if it did lead to a lawsuit it would be between Big Machine and YouTube, and Taylor not involved 😬 cause I hardly think that labelling the songs Taylor’s Version has anything to do with her or her team. It’s so weird though that YouTube would label them wrong!!

The main reason why I believe Treacherous and Trouble are about John Mayer and not Harry Styles is that Red was released in Oct 2012 and Taylor & Harry were seen together in December 2012. It seems odd that she would write songs that suggest he treated her so poorly and that they'd still be together after that. I also agree with both of you that these songs really don't match the tone of her other songs that seem to be so clearly about Harry.

Funny that Emily said what I was going to say after the video ended about it not being Harry because of "a new notch in your belt is all ill ever be" lyric. It just doesn't sound like the same person she's singing about in 1989 at all so I'd lean John Mayer for sure. These are fun cause I don't think people have watched the old music videos much recently (while they still listen to the songs) so it's a good refresher for everyone!

Random thing. I was watching tennis and in between games they were playing Shake It Off and it got me thinking that for some people that's who they think Taylor Swift is. And I think SIO is a fun song as long as you haven't heard it a million times like we all did in 2014 but she's got so many songs that are so much better that it's like, "here, go listen to this, people!" Anyway, I hope that made sense.

Yeah, I think it would be hard for them to go after Taylor for it. The only thing I could think of is she might have to 'give back' earnings that the video gained? But even that seems unrealistic, because it would be Youtube at fault and so I would think they would have to just pay BM the owed amount for streaming, as it's 100% legal for her to have a song that sounds as similar as she does to the original masters. But who knows. At least she has a good team of lawyers.

I am not sure I ever really thought about it, but everything she does has meaning so it’s absolutely possible. I think the whole Easter egg thing really became real during Lover era, prior to that of course she had secret messages and linking lyrics in songs to each other but I don’t think previously I had consistently been in the mindset of “look for clues” if that makes sense! It’s an interesting point, especially watching the video again after so many years, to look for little things like that that at the time would go over my head because the fandom was less focused on the Easter eggs!!! Em x

Yes I agree! The cheating thing definitely seems possible. And David it’s interesting you bring up the lyric “a new notch in your belt” because I think that might be the lyric that made people think for a while it was another John Mayer song… I think it’s quite reminiscent of “all the girls that you’ve run dry have tired lifeless eyes cause you burnt them out”. Also just generally “I knew you were trouble” and “I should’ve known”. But I’ve also always had a hard time reconciling that it would be about John, I just really felt like she’d moved on from that situation by the time Red came around. I’m definitely thinking today it’s Harry or Jake and there was cheating involved like in Babe!

The only thing that makes me disagree is that she wrote This Love around December 2012 which ended up on 1989 (Harry’s album) and specifically is about the love coming BACK to her, implying they’d been together before. Also the secret message about the Temper Trap lyric in Treacherous… the Temper Trap said in their interview about it that this happened when she was in Australia during Speak Now tour (she was here early 2012, around March) and this aligns with ending things with Jake in late 2011/very early 2012 so she could have somewhat moved on to Harry briefly, ended it and explored the Conor Kennedy situation, then back to Harry late 2012/early 2013, and maybe that’s why 1989 is so accepting of the fact that the relationship can’t be long term but enjoying the time they had… because she already KNEW he was trouble, but couldn’t help going back to him anyway!! Em x

Another mention from “Alexa open Taylor’s Version” by Taylor for this song recently: she said something along the lines of this being one of the first pop songs she created and that she felt like she wasn’t ‘allowed’ to drift away from the country sound from her first 3 albums (fuck u scott). She also mentioned that she’s only got this specific feeling twice: while moving to pop with IKYWT, and while writing the first bits of folklore (so probably cardigan). Helloooo!! Honestly it’s yours and bonnie’s analysis of Tay that has helped to turn on the little detective in my brain in regards to her older work. I do feel like her bringing the exact same pink die in her hair in the Lover era is super intentional, so it must have meant something back then for her to have done it for IKYWT. I personally find it hard to view the Lover era without the lense of sexuality. If you look at everything she wore (jewellery/make up/outfits) she really is trying to signal something. A lot of people believe that it was her coming out as bisexual, but the general media completely missed that interpretation. But the dying of the ends of her hair both pink and then blue, it adds to that argument. Of course I don’t want to assume her sexuality in anyway, but when you think of how intentional everything is that Taylor does… it’s hard to deny it. Of course I’m bi myself so obviously I’m going to be biased to an extent 😅 but I think it helps to add a deeper layer of meaning to what she does, for me anyway.. and a lot of the LGBTQ community that are swifties. P.S. woke up to the notification that you replied to my comment and TOTALLY fangirled 😅 I love you guys xxxx

I think people look at Harry and put that on him. When I doubt if you didnt know anything about John Mayer you'd do the same. Which is why we shouldn't assume things about people based on how they look. But we do cause that's just how it goes.

I thought it was john Mayer too bc I think an interview talked about how her parents warned her about “him” and it just felt like she was still processing further from dear John vibes. But then I never knew about it the secret messages and links to the other songs at the time I heard the interview. I’m really intrigued though bc this video has the whole older rockstar, more mature vibe really doing a number on her. And that screams John Mayer bc he was more established in the music scene than she was at the time. I definitely agree about 1989 Harry vibes relationship being wrong vs the person was wrong. OMG wow this made me *nostalgic* i forget that i got into taylor just after 1989 released, so my swift journey began with a deep dive through her music videos, she has "making of"/"behind the scenes" for most(if not all) and i was *obsessed* with the ikywt one because she was super involved with the narrative and and production and i was like... wtf i've never seen such a committed artist???

think about this video within the context of what we see in the atw short film. I have always been of the belief that trouble and treacherous are jake songs. with the sweet dispostion reference, that was jake's favorite song, that's why it's the hidden message. taylor even said back when they were dating that sweet disposition was her favorite song in an interview or something
