To answer you about American high school…at least in the South (I’m from Tennessee) we actually DO have football games very similar to what’s shown in the video. Huge crowds, students going crazy, cheerleaders, the whole thing! It’s super fun actually, high school football is the only football I’ve cared about in my life 🤣

I went to a small American High School, and it was definitely all about the football team and the cheerleaders (being in the band was also considered "nerdy"). Still, I think it does depend on the size of the school and what part of the U.S., the movies and tv shows make it all a bit more dramatic, but the athletes definitely were the popular kids. (I love unhinged videos)

High school football is definitely a big deal in a lot of places. If Australians saw what goes on in Texas with it...they'd be blown away by it all. They treat it like it's professional almost.

hahahaha This video really had me laughing, but yea every Friday night in high school you spent at football games with your friends. Eating hot dogs and candy from the concession stand. At my school we had like a section of trees blocking a patch a field that a lot of kids hung out in or you would walk to the visiting side and talk shit to the high school students over there til a fight started.

Also, all the football players (at least at my school) would wear their jerseys on game days to school. It's quite a thing. I never had football skills. I did the tall person sport of basketball. But my slow feet & lack of jumping ability ended that dream after 8th grade. 😂

From Texas - YES!! Our football games look pretty similar to this. We have a drill team (like a dance team) as well and the cheerleaders usually face the student section - not the field. Other than that it’s pretty accurate!! The players also wear their jerseys to school on game day!

Yes, even in NY state (so not the South) we had Friday night football games in high school, and I was a cheerleader. The players wore their jerseys to school on game days and we wore our cheerleading outfits. We had pep rallys and all of it (I am older than you, graduated in 2000). This is real life in America lol

I think this is one of those Taylor songs that gave lots of young women a voice; I've seen many stories online of women saying they sang YBWM to the clueless guy they wanted and now the two of them are married.

I went to school in Los Angeles and this is 100% how high school football games were, every Friday during football season. You have the band, the cheerleaders and the drill team (which I was on). The drill team performs a routine during half time on the field. LOL! 🧡

american high schools are like this!! everyone looks forward to friday. it’s a whole thing. an entire celebration all day long leading up to the game itself. there’s themed nights and a student section. smokers and sometimes fireworks go off. all the performances. the whole community comes out. the full nine yards.

High school is JUST like this! Football games are an event - really fun. There's the cool, bitchy girl who dates the quarterback, there's the nerdy girls and smart girls in the band and in the stands, the kids sneaking alcohol, and the ones smoking under the bleachers. The gangs all here! Of course, I went to school MOONS ago, but I can confirm that it was STILL like this when my sons were in high school! Wow...just revealed my age. Oh well, it's just a number - lol. LOVing these videos!

As an American from Texas (think Friday Night Lights) I can confirm that we very much have football, cheerleaders, high steppers (dance team), marching band. It is a huge part of high school culture. I was a member of the marching band 9-12th grade but it wasn’t the stereotypical football/cheerleader = cool and band = nerd at my school or any schools around me. We weren’t as cliche oriented as movies/tv make it seem all American high schools are at all.

Also schools are so different across America. My high school had 3000 students just for 11/12th grade so the whole popular/nerd thing didn’t matter when you were surrounded by so many kids while other schools have like 200 kids and everyone knows everyone’s business.

I agree! I can sort of lip read because I’m learning Australian Sign Language and I rely on lip reading a lot to understand my Deaf teachers’ signing! We’re not allowed to use voices in class.

My high school was like this! Football games every Friday night, the band was on the far side of the bleachers and next to the was the student section (my schools was called “the crazies” but it usually had something to do with the mascot) and during half time the cheer & pom (dance) squads were do a little routines. We also had a girl who did baton and would light them on fire and do like a fire dance! The best games were always vs your schools rival!
