How is it possible that we've had this video for almost a decade and we hadn't fathomed soo much? SUPERIOR GENIUS VIDEO!!!!

Files

Comments

Sam

This has been my favorite music video of hers since it came out. It's so so iconic and funny and a perfectly executed tongue-in-cheek parody.

Takara

I’m pretty sure that’s a deer 😂

Ramon❀°。

LOVESSSS a mean girls referenceee "bend when you can, snap when you have to"

Riya💕

I still have the app on my iPad. They had little bits where you click on it and you get little keys to unlock a message from her at the end. It was really cool💕

Sheila Kauffman

It’s a deer, not a goat. 😅 I still don’t know what it means though.

Joe Weaver

Doesn't she change outfits 13 times in this video? I think I read that somewhere

Emily Hemingway

Yes the Blank Space Experience!! I definitely had the app. I remember the end of the music video with the iPad on screen including the sound bite of Taylor explaining the experience in the BTS video.

Helena

it's not a goat it's a doe besties !!

Rebecca Dennison

Fun to watch y'all fathom all these details - I never paid attention to there being sooo many different outfits. As for the goat, I believe it's not a goat but a deer. I'm not sure if it's a nod to this, but Audrey Hepburn had a pet deer.

Emily M

The animal behind Taylor in her manic crying scene is a deer. :P I always took it as a symbol of Taylor as Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt, who is often shown with animals like deer in sculptures or paintings. Interestingly, she is also wearing leopard print, clearly showing she is the hunter/predator.

BratNDaHwz

I was SO all over the app because it was like a scavenger hunt to find clues. Also, sometimes they'd randomly show up in the room I'd be looking at.

kayla

The shot with the apple is giving Twilight.

BratNDaHwz

She won an Emmy for that app, btw.

Sarah Marie McLeod

Immediately wondering if the white horses are referring to being "white horse" she's collected from men who have hurt her and left her. Referencing early heartbreak??

Generi Talens

I always thought the horses and deer in the house was just to represent how outlandish and ridiculous this character she’s portraying is!!

Rachel

I think this video has so many outfit changes because of the iconic lyric, 'darling I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream"

Ruby256

Was the cat baby Olivia or just a lookalike kitten?!

Bethanie Harris

I was def on that app! I know every crevice of that house!

Cecilia S

omg i totally remember doing the 360 experience on my father's iphone when this came out haha so random but quite new thing to do in the moment

Bethanie Harris

Also, as a resident raised in country girlie, that is definitely a doe (female deer) and not a goat. Lol In literature, a doe symbolizes beauty, grace, and a caring nature.

Chloe Lee

This mv is significant in a way that it started Taylor’s stylish pop music video era. Director Joseph Kahn is a legend, was very demanded at the time. He did Britney’s Toxic music video and many other iconic videos in the pop scene. Taylor said she wanted to work with him long ago before they did Blank Space together. And since then, they made so many offensive videos together including OOTW and Wildest Dreams

Jenny M

I love how she destroyed paintings, and a car, and then she had her cat Olivia and Marjorie in the video.

Chloe Lee

AND HOW CAN YOU NOT REMEMBER THE APP?! 😭

Sacred_sunflower

Ahh the painting! “Use my best colors for your portrait” 🤩

Sacred_sunflower

Kitten!! She got Meredith around Red era and Olivia was around 1989

Jack

This music video is the reason I became a swiftie. I will defend it with my life it’s a cinematic masterpiece.

Hannah Rose

The first five mins in and I’m like excuse me Blank Space is the best MV of all time!?!

Nish

14:59 isn’t that a deer besties? 😭😭

Taylormusic2007

Would LOVE for you guys to fathom the Grammy 1989 session. Also both of you calling that deer a goat had me in TEARS 😭😂💀💕

Candy

I love this video. It ages well. And now that we know Trav loves this song, well, it just got even better!

BrooklynSwifty

Taylor has a thing for horses and they seem to symbolize freedom and resilience for her. She took riding lessons as a kid and apparently was quite good. Ultimately she had to give it up as her musical pursuits took over. I think she made the right choice 😉

maya zutra

Lmao all the comments being about the deer 🦌

kayla

I remember the app experience! Lol

Katie K

So much going on in that music video that I hadn’t fathomed either! The animals in the house are a bit curious, I need to understand what’s going on there. I never played the 360 game, I feel like it either wasn’t available in the UK or wasn’t available on the phone I had at the time I can’t remember! But I wish I had been able to. I did have The Swift Life though 😂

Katie K

Also if you happen to do a re-watch of the All Too Well short film could you film it please? I know we’re not in Red era atm but it would be great to have a full watch video on Patreon of it! ❤️❤️❤️

kayla

It was basically a virtual tour, like one you would see for a house for sale. You could go into different rooms around the house and rotate the camera 360 and there would be some frames with Taylor in it. There’s probably more, but that’s all I can remember lol

Ava Jeffs

THE APP OMFG I REMEMBER I GOT IT ON MY IPAD!!! Taylor really always been ahead of the game I can see her doing some new interactive experience with the Apple Vision Pro and the eras tour or something!!

Lily

same!

MC

I always thought the animals represented madness and eccentricity. As she said magic madness heaven sin. Kinda fit the theme of the song to me.

Maya L. Davis

I think the white horses represent the horses of the guys who tried to come crawling back to her. "It's too late for you and your white horse to catch me now"... it almost insinuates that "she" (the character she's playing) killed or kidnapped the guys when they tried to get her back and kept their horses lolol. Iconic!

lane ♡︎

I think the reason for so many outfit changes is a way to show us how much time has passed with them being together. It’s a creative way of showing the evolution of the relationship which visually is my favourite thing about this music video.

lane ♡︎

Am I going crazy, wasn’t there a feature of a goat in another music video?

G

she won an emmy for outstanding achievement in interactive media with the blank space experience!!! def a moment where she was ahead of the curve

Jenna Bolmgren

Watching that scene with the cape man and dogs reminds me so much of the Sherlock Holmes episode/story of the Hounds of Baskerville. I don’t know if there’s any tie, but it’s curious.

Jenna Bolmgren

Omg I just now fathomed watching this 🤯 Sean, on his phone, has people calling from unmarked numbers in her peripheral vision

Jenna Bolmgren

Sorry for all the comments but I am fathoming 😆 “boys only want love if it’s torture” reminds me of “I call my mom, she said that it was for the best; Remind myself the more I gave, you'd want me less.” Like, guys only want you if you play the game.

P.R. Dayvonne

Tinfoil clown hat theory on the goat/deer/doe (can't tell what it is lol). I think it represents the guy in the relationship cuz it's not doing anything either, and she's in a leopard outfit like she's the predator - which also kind of plays to the character she's playing. Or at least that's how i think it represents lol idk

katie whomst

HA! I remember that app. I didn't have it, but my sister did and we went through the house. I thought it was SO cool, but I was also like 10.

Katie LaFave

this is for sure my fav 1989 music video!

Katie LaFave

i'm surprised to hear that bonny thinks there's not much of a storyline in this video, but i'm excited to watch her fathom

Tess7

I love this video! It won awards and the 360 experience did too. All I remember from the 360 thing was you could walk around the house and see Easter eggs. I remember one was hand written lyrics in a book called My True Loves or something but it was just Polaroids of her cats lol it was like a scavenger hunt to find all the hidden items to unlock Taylor saying stuff. One was hand written lyrics of Blank Space and I remember a framed photo of Taylor holding an ax, but she was younger with her long hair in it. It’s been too long lol it seems like there were people in the house that walked around too. The technology is used for those live concert experiences- Kelly Clarkson was doing one but I never saw it if it came out. This is similar to the real estate walk throughs we see now. I did have the Swift Life app too, it was cool at first- but it was work keeping up with everything on there. I enjoyed this video, as always. Thank you both! 😊

Tess7

Video ideas- Taylor did a Q and A with school kids during 1989 era. It was called Taylor Swift on Scholastic Web Chat. It’s only like 20 minutes but it’s always fun to watch her with kids

Lan

When she first put up shawn's portrait on the wall [1:21] we can actually see the damaged portraits of other men at the other side of the wall(one of them has a knife on it which later had a close up take at 2:29)

Lan

Ooh and Taylor's blank space performance at the AMA was very theatrical and iconic! She almost brought all the mv elements to the stage!

Taylah Louise

Is the goat because of the I Knew You Were Trouble meme?

Aloha Record Sargent

Regarding your comment towards the end of the video: Since we never got to see your reaction to the ATW10 short film, could you do a re-visit and share all your thoughts on it? And/or maybe a video on the behind the scenes for the short film (did you ever react to that? I can't remember!)

Aloha Record Sargent

I wrote the same thing!! Do you know if they ever reacted to the behind the scenes for the short film?

Fahmeen

My favorite video 😭

Fahmeen

The mansion is actually in upstate New York! My friend just went to a wedding there recently loll

Sommer Ellis

I was going to mention to at as well! The main house in it is Oheeka Castle in Long Island, I have stayed there before! So still keeping with the NY theme at the time!

Jessie

I think its a deer girls, not a goat lol ><

Aloha Record Sargent

Thank you so much, @finn! I must not have been on Patreon yet when they did this!! Ok, watching now.

Emmie Kruger

This is my fave 1989 music video. I watched it on REPEAT, so iconic!

Lauren

I'm sorry but the phone with her looking over his shoulder is giving 'You had people who called you on unmarked numbers in my peripheral vision'

Katie K

I have a feeling they did yes! I’ll have a look though. I feel like their might have been a chatty video about the short film then too but not a full rewatch idk I could be totally wrong. Will have a search!

Rebecca

That's Legally Blonde 😂

Finley

of course 🤍

Lively_Ash

I LOVE this video! I love Taylor’s comedic sense!! Everything in this video is over the top just like the lies the media spin about her. She is a living legend, a total icon!

Mahua Das

The 1989 experience was alot of fun! You could move from room to room using a 360 camera which meant that you could see what Taylor and Sean were doing, but also turn around and see other parts of the room that aren't visible in the music video. I definitely did not see or recognize Marjorie. But I loved playing with the app! The mansion was beautiful!

Zoe

I am pretty sure its a deer .. not a goat 😂 I wonder if its like symbolising shes a deer in headlights .. or he is.... I have no idea honestly haha

ShaunaJ

notice when she is first hanging the picture of the man she painted.. the painting behind her is of a man with an axe chopped into it. it is a hall of fame of ex-boyfriends and destroyed paintings.

forevermore

not sure if anyone has noticed/commented about this yet but I love how beyoncé & taylor both wore silver to each others’ premieres! they wore it in their own way but allowed the other to take the spotlight on their own day. love women empowering women!

Darya 🤍

I was thinking exactly this!

Darya 🤍

Besties have you seen the Time magazine cover?? Boyfriend Taylor is back

Ramon❀°。

Omg you’re so right. BRAINFART

Darya 🤍

Please react to it for Patreon please please!!

Darya 🤍

And the Travis tea??

bookworm_mj

you guys should react to taylors times person of the year interview

Faith Kennedy

We NEED a fathoming video of Taylor’s Time magazine article and interviews!! Just read some the excerpts from it and oh my goodness 🙌🏻👏🏻🖤

Dawnson D

Love you girls <3 Are we gonna fathom the things she said in Time magazine? 👀

Ethan Nguyen

TIME MAGAZINE REACTION ASAPPPPP

Emma

Taylor is person of the year in time, please first read through of interview and first reaction to pictures on camera❤️❤️❤️(the ENTIRE interview word for word if you want my preference, u absolutely don’t have to skip or cut any of it)❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hannah Kennedy

Ladies we simply need you both to fully react to Taylor's entire TIME magazine interview that just came out!! It's SO good, she's so open and honest and unabashedly herself!!!! 🥹

Dawnson D

And yes 100% for a TIME magazine interview fathoming video <3

Andrea

jumping on board the times article fathoming!!!!!!! alsoooo can we fathom how the last time we got an album about a new relationship was REP 😭😭 ts11 is going to be insane

Isabelle K

My biologist heart just stopped lol that's not a goat, it's a deer lmao

Alycia Ortiz

Would love to see y’all react to the TIMES article and also the TIMES:why we chose Taylor article!

dina

you should react to the TIMES article!!!

Meg A.

“Why is there a goat?” 🦌

Leelou

Emergency Time Person of the Year interview chat and reaction! 💥💗

gail

I was a bridesmaid at this mansion a few years later and it was so cool being there!

Filippa

Please tell me that you're doing a reaction to the TIMES interview and everything else around it. IT'S SOOO MUCH!!!

Marie S.

fun fact that music video was filmed at Oheka castle in Long island (Huntington) so technically the new york theme for 1989 tracks , i went there to a party a few years ago and of course i freaked lol there is a hotel and a restaurant

Lisa

It always fucked me up that the golf club/car scene was a reference to Before He Cheats by Carry Underwood (or at least it is in my head) because it hints back to her country roots AND Before He Cheats is about a "crazy" girl taking revenge, like the BS music video.

Lisa

Also, all the guys look the same, because there are so many, they practically become faceless.

Jaime McKee

I just watched this for the first time and - yes, please! There are some lines in this interview that really need fathoming!!

Maya L. Davis

WE NEED TO BE FATHOMING THE TIME PERSON OF THE YEAR INTERVIEW AHH

Caitlin Bell

PLEASE REACT TO THE TIME PERSON OF THE YEAR INTERVIEW! ❤️

Lisa

I had an illegal fathoming while watching this: “I’ll write your name” I always took in the ways we normally do: - I have a blank space left on the list of guys I want to date. I’ll write your name. - I have a blank space left on my long list of ex-lovers. I can add another one. I’ll write your name. - Don’t date me because I’ll write your name into a song. - I’ve practically already written a song, but I left a blank space so I can just find a new face, say “Tag, you’re it” and write your name in it. But, recently I fathomed that “I’ll write your name” reminds me of ‘making a name for yourself’, which means becoming famous or being remembered for something. Like: - “I’ll write your name”. I’ll decide/manipulate what people think about you and how you’ll be remembered, with what I’ll write about you in my songs. I’ll “make” your name for you.

Joe Weaver

Correction from my other comment. She wears 20 outfits in this video. Which is an outfit change about every 12 seconds since it's just under 4 minutes long. Incredible.

Gabriela B

Yes! I am adding myself to the list of people asking, URGENTLY, for the reaction to the Time Person of the Year article!

chatsandreacts

YES YES YES YES YES WE WILL DO!!!!!! OMG WE ARE SO EXCITED TO FATHOM

Lily Blanche

I am DYING for a reaction video of the TIME portrait of Taylor!!!! SO MANY EASTER EGGS🙌🏼🙌🏼🩵🤡

Filippa

Omg GREAT NEWS!!! Can't wait!!!

Esther

Y'all that is not a goat 😂

Cambryn Adams

oh I need a time magazine fathomingggggg so baddddd😭

Hayden

it’s a deer LMAOOO

Mequet

Besties! I loved this as usual! Do you think you guys could do a patreon video fathoming Taylor’s interview with Time? I’d love to watch y’all discuss!!

Mequet

Wait I commented this before I read all the comments and I see you’ve already answered this!! Yay so excited!!

brenda 🌸

I remember having the app!! You could look around the house it was so cool!!

Ursula

Loved this video, and also, thank you so much for discussing Britney - if only she had the same family support as what Taylor has had throughout her career from her family - what a difference in journeys, but both are absolute icons. 💞

Juliana Martinez

bestie you need to tell us more!! that is so cool!!!

Guadalupe Trejo

A GOAT??!!? LMAO you both are too funny 😂😂

Kate Aschoff

yes i used the app on my ipod touch lol, i honestly remember it being kinda hard and confusing to use and just deleting it after a few days... was not in my fathoming era

Noemi

I cannot deal with the fact that I have to wait to see your reaction to the time interview, I want your reaction on real time, I cannot wait so long to watch your videos ahhhh I need a life 😂 no, actually, I would just need some swifties friends in my offline life to talk about taytay with 😂

Filippa

Same!! I'm sure they're working as quickly as they can, but I'm sitting here checking every other second hahahaha

Molly

Will you two be reacting to the time interview? Soon much fathoming to be had

Lin Gill

Loving these 1989 Era reactions! I would love to see you react to Taylor's 1989 Secret Sessions live performance on the rooftop in New York City. It was filmed the same day 1989 was released. It so perfectly represents 1989 era Taylor. Also for 1989, the Now Grammy Museum Listening Sessions where she plays Wildest Dreams on the electric guitar! Very superior. And yes, the Time Person of the Year interview, please.

Gabriela B

ahhhhhhh!!! you guys made my day, cant wait!!!!

Dswiftie

i just wanted to tell you guys how much I love you both!

Leonara McNeal

That slight smile at the end ENDS me every time! 🤩

Arrow

It's a deer not a goat :P so maybe there is some symbolism there? Idk it's still pretty random lol

Molly Keran

I'm so glad you fathomed how superior this is! It's maybe my favorite TS video (though it's hard to choose!) and I just think it's so funny and clever. Re: the goat, which is actually a deer. It feels random but I feel like it emphasizes the opulence, but MORE THAN THAT, she's in an animal print (leopard? cheetah?) because she's a PREDATOR and the deer is PREY, just like men are painted out to be her helpless prey.

Erica Rickards

I’m so excited you’re re-fathoming Blank Space! When I watched it after listening to the vault the scene where he has the phone reminded me a lot of “you had people who called you on unmarked numbers in my peripheral vision” but instead of letting it slide, Blank Space Taylor blows up.

Renée

I used the 360 app a few times when it first came out, the initial experience was cool, a little tricky to use but loved seeing the inbetween shots they took and the details of the mansion! ✨✨

Mercedes

The app was soooo amazing!!! There were hidden clues and riddles around the house and each time one you solved unlocked a Polaroid of taylor, her cats, friends, etc!!! I spent HOURS trying to find them all. I'm sure there's screen recordings of it on YouTube, I remember people posting tutorials on how to find the extra hard clues 😂😂

Cristina

If not already on your list, you should (re)react to Taylor's Grammy interview after she won aoty for 1989. I feel like there's a lot to refathom in that interview

Yuli

I desperately need to know where Bonny’s dress is from

Jeremiah Bell

i honestly think the goat is just there because it’s super random and campy 😭

BenQM

I think it's a deer, not a goat - I reckon it's probably just another piece of the whole nobility visual, so it's reminiscent of hunting trophies you might see in these houses.

Sabina Vitola

I think the deer/goat is there to contrast the white horses from the beginning. When everything is perfect vs when she shoes her “true colors”

Abigail Roney

I think the animals in the house are just driving home the “crazy eccentric rich lady” vibe that she talks about in her Grammy museum performance speech before blank space. The media was painting has not only as a “serial dater” but as rich and eccentric…. Flying her lovers around the world and “bathing in pearl” etc.

Marissa

I wonder if the goat is meant to symbolize that she is the scapegoat being attacked by the media?

Luna Rodriguez Espinoza

GUYS!! when you unlock all the secret messages you win a video of child Taylor getting a bike as a gift and trying it out inside the house!! A BIKE like in the music video and the eras tour!! 🤯🤯🤯

Amy Vega

The Regina George reference is a nod to when Katy Perry tweeted she was “Regina George in sheep’s clothing.” After hearing bad blood.

Katherine McClintic

Late to the game here, but this is how rich new yorkers live, they have their ESTATES upstate and they are on the connecticut beaches more than in the city much of the time, or like Hamptons life, also never noticed she is making literal ART about these lovers...like a song or album

Taylor

Wow realizing that she was fathoming her reputation so much during this era, makes me wonder if there really was a lost album or if she was really planning reputation the whole time 🤔

skizzo

To me the horses symbolized their perfect elegant relationship, and then it changed to a goat when that image was shattered and their relationship was breaking down, no longer beautiful and elegant but very messy

Breezy Bumbles

Just fathomed that once the re-records are finished, that “Lover” will be her “youngest voice “ forever. Thank goodness I still have the original CDs.

Foxy_Tatty

Thank you for this comment! I thought I was the only one seeing a deer!😂

Jade

Pretty sure it’s a deer of some sort and not a goat lol

NatS

It’s so wonderful and random that she won an EMMY for the interactive experience !
