Things Never Go Quite as Planned (Patreon)

Good evening,
It’s one of those days again where I would honestly rather not write a report at all and instead release the update in the middle of the night, only to go over everything the following day and talk about what’s coming next.
Up until a few hours ago, I was still hoping that might actually happen, but as the evening has gone on and I’ve become increasingly tired, I’ve finally had to accept that I’m going to have to write this report after all.
So let me give you a rough overview of the past week:
I started out by testing all the content I had already added. The idea was to get everything running properly first before making the final changes. As expected, this resulted in quite a few bugs...
Hiba’s scene was particularly troublesome, as I had added several transitions there that ended up causing quite a few problems. On top of that, it really bothered me that I didn’t have a suitable transition animation for one particular part and had to cover the transition with a simple black screen instead.
So I ended up creating another transition animation for it, or rather two, since Tia can also be pregnant during this scene.
Tia’s date also had its fair share of bugs. In this case, the biggest problem was mainly faulty animations that I had to go back and rework. Apart from that, there were all the usual little things that tend to happen whenever I put something like this together: characters getting stuck, images flickering, loading errors, word wrap issues, animations not playing or getting stuck in endless loops...
The point I’m getting at is that all of this ended up eating quite a lot of time.
Once everything was finally working and I couldn’t find any more obvious problems, I focused entirely on finishing Dasan’s conflict, just as I had announced in my last report.
Writing the actual dialogue for it didn’t cause too many problems and was actually a lot of fun. What has been giving me a lot more of a headache, and still is, is getting all the different outcomes to work properly from a gameplay perspective.
I need to make sure that certain options are actually blocked depending on what happened, while others remain available, and that the appropriate reactions from the individual characters are shown in all the different situations.
I’ve been working on that since this morning, and unfortunately there still isn’t really an end in sight. And once I finally get everything working, I’ll still have to test the whole thing again afterward.
As I said, I would have much rather finished everything tonight and released the update, but I also don’t want to leave you with a broken version that I wouldn’t be able to fix until Monday anyway.
I’ve made a firm decision not to work over the weekend again, so for that reason I’ve decided to call it a day.
It’s already 10:30 PM here, or at least that was the time when I started writing this report...
And I think everyone will get more out of this if I tackle the final work rested and with a fresh mind on Monday.
With that said, I’m sorry that I didn’t manage to finish the update today, and once again I hope for your understanding.
I wish you all a nice and relaxing weekend!
