It's official!! After 2 years of research and development, we are finally releasing our custom NPR-focused build of blender (Goo Blender) to the public!

Starting today, the pre-compiled, easy to use, downloadable ZIP of Goo Blender will be available for all Patrons at the "Essentials" Tier ($5) and above, with rolling updates as we add more features. Thanks so much for supporting us all this time to make this possible. I'll be making more update posts, tutorials, and announcements about it throughout the next month or so. Stay tuned!

Supporting us will help us create even more updates for Goo Blender and other tools like Mesh Trails and beyond! This is hoping people like the build and make amazing stuff with it and give a little back to the hardworking team that made it possible. We're also hoping to start releasing assets on Patreon as we ramp up production this coming year.

Thanks so much for your support! Talk more soon :D

I know you know that animation above is amazing^^^ 🤩✨️but I still have to say it!!

Tyty!! :D the team and I worked super hard on it!

Looks great and excited to have a play. Currently reading up on compiling so I can get this to work on Mac though :S oops.

dillongoo

Ah yes! If you can get it working on Mac, that's one of the things we're still working on getting working. Keep me posted on Discord and we'll see what we can do!

The rendered shot looks amazing. Can't wait to actually learn how to use it. I just fumbled around for a bit.

dillongoo

Thanks so much :D I plan on making tutorials in the next week or so to help people get used to the custom features!

Question I'm new to blender and to goo-blender if I may ask is there a difference between the two? Also great renders for the animation.

Shaky Tail Studios

So what does Goo Blender mean in this context, especially in regards to textures/shading as getting that anime look is always such a challenge to me,

dillongoo

There's a bunch of updates that make the anime look more feasible than default blender :D I'll make tutorials soon

dillongoo

It's mostly shader changes with nodes and how blender handles lights and shadows!

Shaky Tail Studios

Oh very cool! Curious is there a way to buy it that's not subscription based? Cos I do want it and to compensate you.

Kyle Smart

Great to hear, yes a new commission has pulled me back off properly trying this for a couple more weeks. Although, I'm a little surprised no-one on your team is working on a Mac! I'm seeing a lot of 3D NPR guys (myself included) coming over from a more art/ design world. Could fill a pretty good niche (malt is also PC only as far as I can tell, but has more to do with Open GL.) Cheers!

Am I opening it wrong? I finished unzipping the folder but the application crashes every time I try to enter render or material view mode in the default scene.

dillongoo

Hmmm that's pretty strange. Everyone else seems to be running it fine. If you join the Studio Discord there might be some users you can ask if they went through anything similar.

Kyle Smart

Initial attempts have me run into an error in the compiler right at the end. ('clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation') . Not sure if it's an issue of the build or if I'm on an M1 with current new builds of vanilla blender running into similar'ish problems. Probably best leaving it to someone a bit more in the know :)

dillongoo

Thanks for letting us know! If you have Discord, I'd be happy to DM you so we can test out the build more efficiently!
