Thats a ghost gum

Kerstin

How cool is that 🧡

Leanne Rees

That you so much for doing the gum tree. I really appreciate it..

Leanne Rees

Love the way you showed us all the colours towards the end. thank you so much a great job

Jenna Sices

Wow, focusing on the trees made me MUCH looser on the buildings, which was a delight!

Jodi Dawson

Wow- this is the fastest I’ve sketched. It’s loose alright. Lots of fun learned a lot- thx Scottie

Jennifer

My line work for the buildings was really loose and simple after the tree exercise. Something I struggle with normally.

Geertje

Thanks Scottie, for another wonderful tutorial! You said, you sometimes make up shadows. How do you do that, without overdoing it?

Petra

Hi Scottie, I drew this tutorial twice because I'm not relaxed enough yet.I need to learn to make my sketches simpler, I'm to precise...but daily practice sure makes it better....you can see the new sketches in the community..

Rosie Green

Thanks, Scottie :-D. Very Helpful & Enjoyable. I love your Style (shall we call it the "Scottie Genre" ? :-D), and how you make it recognisable without the perfectionism. Very Relaxing! I jump in & out of my art work, but I watch your Lessons & take it all in :-D. Confidence building! I would love to have a Lesson in shiny surfaces eg glass, crystal & metals. Grin :-D

Laura Re Turner

This was super helpful. And the sketch of the cafe with the pink flowers looks great - just the right amount of paint versus white space.

Saskia

Thank you so much Scottie for your great lessons! You really help me to be more confident in sketching. It's the first time for me to sketch directly with a pen in stead of with a pencil first. I need a lot more practise but it's getting better now. And you are right: it looks more interesting in this loose sketching style in stead of drawing the perfect lines afterwards. And it also helps me not to lose myself in trying to draw everything 'perfectly' with too much details (which was also frustrating for me because I was never happy with the results anyway hahaha). So win win, thanks to you!

Debra

You use mostly use purple for shadows, what other soft colors could I use for shadows, perhaps soft blues?

SJloo

what is the magic technique to lay those colors down in the light wash that you do, without having too much water? I am noticing afterwards that I put too much water down. but when I do less water the color is too dark/opaque.

SJloo

Ok that makes sense. Thank you!

Adriaan E Basson

Thanks Scottie. A great tutorial on plants. I was wondering if you could include a tutorial or part if a tutorial on drawing spikey plants such as a yukka plant?

Keri Monte

I was really happy with my tree and then something changed very fast and it got very muddy. I think I need to start stepping away for a bit, letting it dry and really stop and be intentional with what I'm adding for the darker colors.

Dania

I like these quick mindless sketching, no worries of mistakes 😉 just do it, and it turns out OK for a beginner. Thank you.

MaryAnne P

Love this. You make it so effortless. I really feel like I could be sitting on my couch with my travel art kit and do this! 🙏👩‍🎨
