TUTORIAL FOR THIS WEEK:  Building with a crowd of small sized people

This week we're sketching a building with many small figures standing around it. This is a great opportunity to practice sketching very small figures to show the scale of the building.

I've chosen three different types of buildings so I'm really curious what you would like to sketch the most. Each one has a different challenge! Let me know what you think below.

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Week Starting 20th May: People Sketching - How to draw HANDS

Week Starting 27th May: Urban Sketching - Street in one point perspective

Week Starting 3rd June: Portraits - Feminine VS Masculine faces

Although #1 seems most difficult, it is similar to others we have done. #2 has a lot of perspectives and is different.

Rhonda MacDonald

Would love to explore reference #2 . Would love to learn more about sketching and painting white buildings - incorporating shadows and highlights in a blended/natural manner.

Jodi Dawson

I think #2 has the most challenges with many roof lines and building shapes

Suzanne Taylor

Would love #1…… looks very challenging.

Karen

I like #2 because of the different shapes and the way the shadows look as well as some people sitting, some standing.

Mansma

I sometimes get “lost” with lines and their shadows. I look forward to this tutorial.

Susan Bowen

I’m new to your class, and loving it so far. I think 1 is the most challenging with all those windows. My choice is #2, which also has the most interesting composition. Love the people standing to the side.

Sharon White

#3 seems like a fun challenge. I like #2 too but love 3.

Mary L Doty

#3 looks like it should be wrong because it leans, would be fun plus it has a lot of detail in the windows and the people. Loved the last class on hair!

Karen Ericka Newby

I'm tempted by #3 as I find ŕound towers difficult, especially when they have many tiers. But I'm also interested by the shades of white and grey in #2, and I'm drawn to the story...what are they pointing at ?

Lorna Graham

Really like #2 but #3 will be great for a loose sketch plus I love 🇮🇹

Lex Sijtsma

Love the perspective on #1

Thomas

I would love to learn about both #1 and #2. The special perspectives of a corner building like #1 are a challenge. As much as the ones of that round shape in combination with the roof and the rectangular side buildingd in #2.

Lorna Graham

I think #1 is too similar to the building we did recently, plus it’s tricky 😁

Ida Johansson

I chose #1 because it is a lot going on there which is tricky since I tend to get stuck on details. But all three seems challenging to me as a new inexperienced sketcher 😊

Marie Cornelis

Merci Scottie pour moi les 1 et 2..super

Pam Whitty

I would love to try # 2 ... beautiful shapes.

Marie

Me gusta el #2 😉

Kate L

#2 seems too easy. #1 and 3 are a lot harder, so that's why I voted for #1. I need help with harder stuff.

Petra

# 1 I like the colors, the building and I see much to learn...

Gea

2 please

Alberto Gonzalez

how can 2 win? its so basic. I don't get it.

Danielle Boss

I think 2 is most interesting in terms of composition and balance with the group of people.
