TUTORIAL FOR THIS WEEK:  Sketching Dogs and Cats

I hope you are going well this week! I am planning a tutorial which includes sketching dogs and cats and I'd love your help.

What are you more interested in learning? Sketching people walking a dog in an urban environment or are you more interested in an in-depth lesson on sketching cats and dogs?

I have had many requests to do more tutorials about sketching pets but in the past they haven't been widely popular tutorials.

My current idea (could change 😊) is to sketch an urban scene with people/dogs and then for those interested, include an in-depth section where we go through the proportions and do some simple exercises.

If you have any ideas for this tutorial and what I should teach, please let me know in the comments below!

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Week Starting 19th August: How to sketch SHOES

Week Starting 26th August: Urban Sketching - Simple Cottage

Week Starting 2nd September: Portraits - Looking UP & DOWN

Reference 1. I was also wondering about other animals. I can’t seem to get deer faces right!

Your current idea sounds perfect to me. I think most people find it engaging to see an owner and happy dog included in a scene, and more in-depth on proportions cats and dogs would be great.

I love the idea of this video! I'm especially interested in the in-depth portion, as I would love to sketch my cat and feel at a complete loss where to begin. Thanks Scottie!

We work a fair amount on people but an in-depth for our pet or any animals would be great. It would be nice to do a scene with sheep, cattle, or horses instead of buildings. I don’t live in an urban area so I have to travel to find buildings other than farm scenes and a “crowd” would involve animals not people.

I agree with the others, I think it's high time our four legged friends got a look in 🥰. As for the choice, I'd say 1 and 2, as I can see how 3 and 4 would end up looking in my case. The dog in 3 would look like a rat or a racoon. The couple in 4 a pair of zombies. And 🖐 for the proportioning of cats and dogs.

Love this idea and always would love to be able to have more opportunity to learn to sketch cats and dogs!

I went for #4, #1 and the in All in depth sketching, really looking forward to it. I chose 4 because it has two people but I really want to learn how to sketch the dogs 🐾 😊

Petra

# 1 and I like the in-depth lesson of cats and dogs.
