TUTORIAL FOR THIS FRIDAY:   Urban Objects - How to sketch anything! (Available 15th Nov)

The tutorial for this Friday is all about how to sketch any object you could come across, whether in a photo or from life. For example you could be sitting in a cafe with your sketchbook and you draw the objects in front of you.

So I wanted to break the exercises down into beginner, intermediate and advanced to show the same observational sketching technique can be used for anything. I've chosen a wide variety of references this week to vote on in the poll. I'm not sure how many photos I'll sketch so I'm interested to see what you vote for!

Please vote for multiple references below and let me know if there's anything particular you'd like to see.

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Friday 22nd November: People Sketching - Figure in detail

Friday 29th November: Buildings In Three Point Perspective

Friday 6th December: Portrait Sketching - Smiling faces

Thats another great idea, Scottie. Sketch what ever we see. I hope the flowers in vase are part of tutorial too 😊

Josh

But now I’m hungry

Michael Coleman

I picked 11 because I need to work on water drawing, though I guess there may be a little of that in 7.

Jo

Ten

Roz

I still have trouble with these exact types of perspectives! Great choices.

Roz

6, 7, 10. I definitely need more work in perspectives.

Umashanker VD

Yes I would them all as well but would be nice to see how to make the mundane cafe table and chair interesting

Mary L Doty

I like the boat but the colors are washed out and would need to be punched up. I think it is just the photo. That would be a good lesson, showing how to change colors and emphasize light & shadows.

Vivienne Adamson

I like them all Scottie they all have something to offer composition wise ie. light, shade, angles, perspective. Whatever is chosen will be a good learning experience. Thankyou for your amazing tutorial experiences. 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Food and food related things are very interesting to sketch. Many also take photos of their food so plenty of practice material out there

Karen Ericka Newby

I find it difficult sketching food and spherical objects, as I can't seem to get them to appear 3D. I paint natures mortes of odd shaped and heritage vegetables and they all look flat. And I'd love to do birds. But that could be a whole different theme.

All of them Scottie, can’t choose individually and I think any of them will help with the sketching skills, especially out and about. The pancakes and phone box stood out for me initially but I will be happy with any of them. Love this one and as always thanks for all your tutorials, they’re the best!!

Lorna Graham

I did pick 8 to help with the voting 🙌🏻

Gwen Marriott

This will be really interesting. Great challenge. Thanks Scottie !

Margaret Megarry

The busier the subject … the more I get lost .. especially if the subject has lots of small shapes

Love the pancakes and the salt and pepper shakers. I want to learn more about drawing everyday items. When I see others’ do it, I find the sketches very charming.

Hi Scottie! #6 and #10 for me- I’m always interested in little “vignettes” and am not sure how much background to include or how to create a focus point without too much other details (aka “background noise”). Thank you!

6 & 10 - Chair and Tables - It would be good to have people seated in the chairs.

Alfonso Contreras

#8 I remember them being on every corner in my town. We used them regularly to call girls back in the day
