Loving this Scottie, can’t wait to have a go 🙌🏻

Brigitte Lew

Thank you Scottie! This is really really very helpful! Have a nice weekend!

lizzy giggs

Yikes! Thank You? I was digging it right up until the last three…especially no.6! But i so much thank you for breaking it down into bits I can understand! You are getting me to where I want to go and giving me courage! Cheers!

Jenessa Bennett

This was an awesome tutorial. Thanks so much.

Pamela

I love this one Scottie! I love how you guide us through the placing of the dots and drawing the outline. Love how you talk through your thoughts as you go. It helps! I think it's really helpful to remember to sketch the things that are in front first. A lot of times, I get in the weeds with all the stuff in the background and then have trouble coming forward. This tutorial is definitely one of my favorites.

Karen Ericka Newby

This is definitely my favourite so far. So nice just peacefully sketching along with your natural chatter, just like sketching with a friend. Dots have become quite intuitive now. I often catch myself sizing objects up with dots to to determine the relationships between them. I'd still like a tuto on spherical objects though, or maybe that exists in the library somewhere.

Great tutorial again. Especially the window… if you not had told to put the windows itself in first… i had drawn all the frames and than ended with no space for the windows itself. And i would call these pancakes too. But i am not english native 🤣

David G.

Excellent tutorial, Scottie. "Dark highlights"; love the term. And charging in ultramarine to enliven purple lake shadows--perfect! Pancakes! In the United States, a popular restaurant is called IHOP, International House of Pancakes. Anything else--hotcakes, griddle cakes--just wouldn't work. 😆

Lynn

You are an excellent instructor! Thank you for this tutorial!

Rosie Green

So Helpful, Scottie :-D. All of the Objects are awesome, and particularly the plant. I see I don't need so much black pen detail. So - thoughts - would you be up for teaching dappled sunlight, and water going down a waterfall (looking down at fingers on right hand :-D)? Cheers!

Froukje

Thanx Scottie, good lesson. I made the mistake in working in a smaal book (each drawing on a seperate page)…. So I had to do this lesson in several moments. I will buy larger books to work in ☺️

Jenny

Your tutorials are so much fun and make so much sense, thank you! I’m really enjoying your style as the loose lines and relaxed washes have a spontaneity to them that makes learning fun and hands on, instead of boring or daunting! I’m so happy to have found your lessons because now I’m interested in drawing and painting again. I’ve just finished this tutorial and I think I need a nap now, I’ve never painted so much so fast before!! 🤣

etiana

thank you so much .volume comes to life with the light and shadows by watercolor.are you always using full lines as in portraits or faces you use hints or partial lines? sorry for the english french speaking

Jeffery R Towse

Love these urban objects. Great for practice. More please 🙏

Kristin

This was SOOOO much fun. Loved it.

Amanda

Before joining your Patreon, I'd done some other courses for Urban Sketching and thought I'd never really improve. Not to mention how nervous I used to be using permanent ink and making mistakes! Then after doing the exercises in the Fundamentals 2 and 3 videos I was honestly more discouraged, but that has all changed now! Thank you so much, Scottie, for the incredibly detailed tutorial. I've only sketched the first 3 with pen so far, but I'm floored with how great everything came out so far. I feel a lot more confident to just go for it, and less worried about making mistakes. Thank you!

Ron

I tried like 6x to outine w pen, but my brain refused to read it so that it wasn't just some weird blob. so I sketched it out in pencil which took a while but I was able to make corrections along the way. then I did my usual to draw in pen loosely over it, then erase the pencil. I think I just have to keep working on both getting better at observing and more confident w the pen. but meanwhile, I have to work hard not to get frustrated about it all. 🤷

Sketchy Zack

For someone who can barely write their name legibly, I’m really happy with this. Couldn’t do the bird though. Maybe after more practice. New to patreon, I don’t think we can upload an image?

Uwe

Verry cool, i finnished it, and ist's good 😀

Jodie Kelly

This is such a great tutorial, thank you for making it so simple!

Krzys

You were right, Scottie, I can draw anything. ( with your help lol)

Daeron

Thank you for your great tutorial, very clear !

Stephanie Massey

I have watched 1000's of YouTube videos including yours and still can't draw. This platform and your amazing presentation makes it all make sense now. Thank you

Rikki Kusy

Thank you for taking your time with this tutorial. I really enjoyed each step throughout the process. I was able to do the low-lights but am waiting for my white pen to be delivered for highlights. I'm surprised at how much I like the finished page. It will be nice to be able to take these methods and create anywhere with minimal space or supplies needed.

Michael

Is it possible to upload photographs for community viewing and critique?

monica

My problem is the patience...:-( All these dots..... :-(

Diane

This was super helpful, thanks so much!

Brianna

it was so interesting to watch you handle six sketches at once. your thought process and how you manage the colors. you can tell you love teaching and sharing your knowledge! thank you so much i love your videos

Yury Matuhin

It was pretty hard to follow sketching all 6 scenes. Had to alt/tab to view bigger version, constantly pause. I would prefer it to be 6 different shorter lessons, which could be done in one go. This lesson took 2-3 days for me to complete.

I’ve just joined and am loving the content. The site has been updated and it took a bit to find the beginner course again! You asked about our goals. I’m already meeting some of those: getting angles to point in the correct direction. The Dot Method was a life saver!
