TUTORIAL FOR THIS FRIDAY:   People Sketching - Figure in detail (Available 22nd Nov)

Hi All! Hope you are going well. This week I am making a tutorial about sketching people. So I have found three figures with relatively simple poses, showing the shapes of their arms and legs. This will be a large sketch with more detail, taking time to sketch each part.

I want to use this as a new fundamentals tutorial in my collection as a simple walk through each step for beginners.

So please let me know which reference you like the best in the poll below and anything you find challenging when sketching people in the comments!

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Friday 29th November: Buildings In Three Point Perspective

Friday 6th December: Portrait Sketching - Smiling faces

Friday 13th December: Urban Sketching - Church / Christmas Scene

No 2 please Scottie, the challenge of the feet walking toward us, the casual relaxed swing of the arms and vibrant coulours

I think #2 is actually the most complicated of all three photos and would like instruction on that one. Thank you for breaking each sketch down to make them easier to draw.

I'm also voting for #2, because I struggle with drawing glasses!

Jennifer

Number 2 for me thanks Scottie. The movement makes this one a real challenge for me.

I agree that the woman's pose is pretty tricky. I could really use some tips for drawing people who are actually moving, as well. Went outside yesterday tried to draw people who stood talked or walked. Ended up with a page full of distorted proportions and half people or even half faces because I just wasn't fast enough. Even though on photos I'm pretty fast with capturing the essentials. I also "feared" people would get annoyed as drawing in public isn't a big thing at my place. Thank you

#2 will be the most challenging for me Scottie. Her hat and the hidden bottom of her leg will throw me a little but looking forward to it 😊

I'm outnumbered i know but I going for 3 as, technically I have trouble with bent arms and then the challenge I see here is the black and white and NO shadow. I'm looking at it now and I'm stumped !

I think 2 - but it was a hard choice. 1 was simpler than the other two and I am in favor of anything that exposes bare hands and feet as I need work on those so 1 and, to some extent, 2 work. I prefer bodies at an angle (same rationale) but 2, though it is straight on, does have a leg placement I would like to try.

I’m interested in drawing parents or grandparents and children. The communication between them is so poignant, full of energy and fun to see. When I try to draw the kids, they move so fast they’re out of sight. I often draw at our local Y while waiting for family to finish their activities.

The woman has a lot going on, the myriad items she carries (as do I), her stride, not to mention her attitude. For me, she is the most interesting among the three! Thanks!!

#2. She seems to have a lot of detail and I’d love to see you teach that one!
