UPCOMING TUTORIAL:  Friday 14th March: People Sketching (Basic Figure Front View)

I've slowly been working through different fundamentals to refine and develop my beginners lessons. I've really appreciated your help in creating these tutorials with all the feedback I get!

So I'd love to hear what part of sketching people you would find most challenging. Is it the head shape or body length? This will help me form my methods of teaching and make them even clearer for beginners. I hope to restructure and refine my fundamentals into a new format in the next 2 months.

Please vote below and let me know any details in the comments 🤗.

WHAT'S COMING UP:

Friday 21st March: Urban Sketching (Building/Lighthouse)

Friday 28th March: Street Objects (Multiple sketches)

Friday 4th March: People Sketching - Interesting Scene (Small group)

Same as Dawn's suggestion above: Variety of body widths please. Also sitting positions or lying, as in sun bathing bodies at the beach please. Thank you Scottie.

Mary McRae Illustration

another vote for widths here! shoulders throw me for a loop every time. All my women look like football fullbacks!

Rosie Green

Ummm - foreshortening I reckon...

Teresa

The whole enchilada!

Mary L Doty

Proportion especially when in a position that is not upright or seated. Thanks. Also groupings of various size individuals at different distances. A few people are fine but large numbers are a night mare.

Mandana

Body width, arms and hands

Dayna

Body widths also!

Lorna Graham

Mine is usually the features. I find sometimes I have not thought the thirds out correctly.

Denise Wilson

where to place the knees if the figure is walking

Tom

There are different canons of proportions, 7 heads, 5 heads, etc right? Do you only use one?

Robert George

The heads are too short and the bodies are too tall. Even with dots 😊

Mary King

Head shape and length

C B

Oh how I struggle with head proportions! Looking forward to this lesson! Thank you Scottie!

Kristina L.

I struggled to get the eyes in the correct proportion.

C Heathershaw

I have a hard time getting arms/hands to look right. Maybe not as much proportions as getting the shape and placement right.

Suzie Truffles

Thank you so much for going even more in-depth to help us understand your process and be confident with it. suzie
