FYI- for those who may not have noticed early in the film, the tombstone that the girl is hiding behind is John Wayne's character Ethan's mother who was killed in a raid by the Commanche. For anyone interested in learning more about the Commanche try "Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History" This book does not sugarcoat anything, they were basically Viking raiders on horseback a long time before any Europeans got there some of you may have seen the Author S. C. Gwynne on Joe Rogan's Podcast.

This is Drama in a Western setting, this is about as close as John Wayne gets to a bad guy, in most of his movies made after this he is a little rough around the edges.

This is in AFI- American Film Institute- top 10 westers of all time and i think it is in their number 1 spot. Hands down one of the greatest westerns of all time, i have read many comments saying the film and John Wayne should have been nominated for best picture and actor at the Oscars. I have seen where many of the best filmmakers have been influenced by The Searchers, including Steven Spielberg, Martain Scorsese, and George Lucas. The burned-out farmstead scene in Star wars A New Hope, and Anikans mother being kidnapped by tuskins and Ankans search to find her, both those scenes are inspired by This Film.

Great reaction. Definitely check out any western directed by Sergio Leone.

Some say Debbie was ethans daughter the grave she was told to go hide by was Ethan mother grave and theyvmentioned it as her grandmother s grave

There seems to be a few videos saying the doorway Ethan is standing at in tgw end has some kind of meaning like the inside of the doorway is civilization and outside is wilderness which us where Ethan walks off in instead of civilization

I'm a huge fan of Westerns and John Wayne in particular but this film has never sat right with me. I know it's highly regarded, including by John Wayne himself, but I'd be hard pressed to even put it in my top ten John Wayne films. I much prefer the Rio Bravo/El Dorado/Hondo type character. Still nice to see you trying something a little outside the norm. Hope you enjoy classics like this.
