I'm ngl, even with context I still can't give Sasuke a complete pass. Jiraiya came back to the village several times. Shit, Itachi was considered a criminal and he still made the effort to check on Sasuke at least ONCE. Obviously, Sasuke's mission is important, but the idea that he can't take one singular minute out of his day to see his family is ridiculous. Especially when he has transportation via his Rinnegan lmao. That being said, I understand the reasons for why Sasuke wants to or doesn't mind keeping his distance. Either way, there is no valid excuse for him not seeing Sarada for so long. Like, could he not have said hi to his family with that messenger hawk too???

I do like this Sarada section a lot but one of the parts I don't is how they make Sasuke a complete deadbeat. I feel like with Naruto even though it's a stretch since he can make so many clones, it's more believable because even though he isn't there often he's still around. Like you mean to tell me this man couldn't see his family once since Sarada was an infant, the same guy who lost his entire family at a young age. This arc actually is Naruto canon, not boruto. It was written by Kishimoto directly following the last chapter of Naruto ! So it make sense it is about sasuke, we wanted more after he came back in the right path

I do like the fact that he's not perfect. Like, making up with the besties is not gonna fix all the trauma responses and negative personality quirks, whether you become a parent or not. So at least, Kishi is being realistic with this approach to Sasuke. It's complicated, like anything else. You don't have to like it, but you can understand it if you understand the character.

I don’t know the Boruto series well or how much they’ve changed things, but Sasuke literally has the ability to teleport—and let’s be real, he never really cared much about Sakura throughout the entire original Naruto series. So if the Boruto writers are staying true to his character… yeah, this is pretty on-brand, hehe. Poor Sarada and Sakura 😅

The story is starting to get a bit more interesting—let’s see where it goes. I’m just as confused as you are, hehe. Really hoping they don’t contradict things and end up ruining the experience. Kinda nervous about it, not gonna lie... Since this is my first time watching, I don’t know the answers to these things, and I don’t want them yet to avoid spoilers. I really hope they stick with this portrayal of Sasuke being a terrible father and husband, don’t come up with some half-baked excuse like “he’s protecting the village” to justify why he’s never even written to his daughter. Part of the blame also falls on Sakura—Sasuke never actually wanted to be with her, and she constantly forced herself on him throughout the original Naruto series. He always made it clear he didn’t feel the same. He even tried to kill her—without a shred of remorse. Note: Before anyone comes in with rage—remember, I’m basing all this only on the original Naruto and up to this current episode of Boruto. So if things change later, no need to explain now—it’ll show up naturally. 😊

It’s not really about being a hardcore fan or not—it’s more about wanting to believe. Yes, I’ve watched everything, and no, a single episode doesn’t erase everything that came before. But if we consider that Kishimoto didn’t originally plan to write Boruto, and parts of the Naruto ending were clearly adjusted to set up something he hadn’t fully envisioned yet, then yeah—a lot was altered. The extra material about Sakura was clearly an attempt to retroactively justify some choices and make things make sense in Boruto. And that material wasn’t even written by Kishimoto himself (which, as a hardcore fan, I’m sure you know). In the end, none of that changes everything Sasuke did, and in the original material, he didn’t seem remorseful at all. His connection and chemistry with Naruto is way stronger than with Sakura, and that’s just how it was written. The truth is: you can do whatever you want with fictional material. You can take any character anywhere—through extra stories, alternate timelines, fanfics, spinoffs, whatever. But you also can’t expect people to treat those add-ons as equivalent to the original source. At the end of the day, it all comes down to opinion. You can’t use arguments like “Well, you just didn’t read the author-approved side story #781” or “You missed the secret material only found in limited release.” We’re just talking about how the character was originally built, and that’s totally fair. There are bad parents or distant spouses in plenty of beloved anime—Goku (DBZ), Yasopp (One Piece), etc.—and it’s totally okay. :D

@Michelle, It's manga canon but not from the Boruto manga, it's one of those canon side stories called "Naruto Gaiden" written by Kishimoto. There is an other one about Mitsuki that you'll get to watch within the "manga canon" episodes.

Chōji, for example, seems like a wonderful father—and I actually really liked his family and his daughter, Chō-Chō. She’s a fun and likable character. Shikamaru also seems to be an excellent dad—no surprise there, honestly. And Sarada really stands out as a character with a lot of potential. She already seems like she’ll be much more important and active in the story than Sakura was—and that’s honestly a great thing to see! 🙌

The thing is, Sasuke’s mission is extremely dangerous and it could also endanger his family. That’s why he never comes home. If the enemy were to find out that Sasuke has a child who is also an Uchiha, Sarada would become a target, and Konoha would be attacked again. Sasuke is the Shadow Hokage his duty is to guard the village from the outside, even going directly to enemy bases so they never get the chance to strike first. And Sakura knows all of this. She understands the consequences. Unfortunately, as a child who doesn’t know any of this, it’s only natural for Sarada to question why her father never comes home, why he doesn’t even communicate with her. Sarada matured beyond her age because she had to do everything on her own. Unlike Hinata, who chose to become a housewife, Sakura had to work at the hospital. She also trained several juniors to become medical-nin. It’s no wonder Sarada often felt so lonely especially after seeing her friends spending time with their parents, particularly their fathers. Boruto, on the other hand, tends to complain more openly about his father than Sarada does—even though his father is still in the village, just very busy. Sarada, meanwhile, has never had the chance to be with Sasuke at all. The difference is, Boruto once experienced the joy of having a present and involved father before Naruto became overwhelmed with responsibilities. He’s also witnessed his younger sister feeling sad on several occasions due to Naruto’s absence. The same goes for Hinata who, though she appears strong in Boruto’s eyes, is someone he feels deeply protective of as her son and as an older brother. Sarada, in contrast, has kept her disappointment to herself all this time. After all, she has no one to confide in.

The movie is the real true boruto beginning, the hokage inauguration is a flash back if I’m not mistaken , and the truest beginning of the story outside of the movie is when you guys finally meet Kara

Exactly, I often hear people say, “Why does Boruto complain more often than Sarada?” The thing is, Boruto is able to express his feelings more freely because his father is around. Even Hinata is often more emotionally available to listen to Boruto than Sakura, who’s always busy. Besides, Sarada probably feels bad about constantly complaining to Sakura who, in a way, is a single mom that comes home already exhausted from her job.
