Bleach was cooking during the soul society arc. Rewatching makes me see how much lore they revealed this early into the show. It just makes me fall in love with bleach even more

Ep 49 is so controversial, I fear... the whole conversation of preserving pride vs. saving someone you could've saved is such an interesting one. I remember hating Captain Ukitake for not intervening and I still kinda do ngl... but different times and different values, man... Just watching it play out tho is so painful, given the context.

You even saw his mom die and you already saw the reference to the "fighting for pride" thing when Ichigo fights the Grand Fisher (who killed his mom) The people who look similar do cannonically look similar tho. I don’t think Ganju reacted super strongly but Ukitake 100% did if you go back and rewatch when he saw Ichigo for the first time on that bridge, I think the subtitles for yall were a little off that episode but Byakuya said to Ukitake “He’s not related to the man you’re thinking of” clearly seeing the resemblance between Kaien and Ichigo himself

That isn’t ichigos mom Michelle remember we already seen ichigos mom it’s the woman with the orange hair she was in the flashback when she got killed by the hollow. Miyako was just Kaien wife, also when Ganju and ichigo first met there were no thoughts from Ganju that ichigo looks like his brother, they just argued a lot and ended up being cool. Only resemblance of ichigo and Kaien we have gotten was byakuya in the human world when he said ichigo looks a lot like him. And then on the bridge byakuya tells ukitake he isn’t related to the man you are thinking of. The subs were wrong but ppl explained in the comments about that scene

A piece of this episode was shown in a flashback in episode 9. Ukitake’s speech to Rukia about pride. Rukia used this same situation and applied to Ichigo when he fought grand fisher. So Ichigo’s pride already happened way back then Ron. To refresh memory episode 9 reaction time stamp 17:23. Michelle also noticed back then that Ukitake is Itachi’s voice actor which he is Then on the bridge when Ukitake first seen Ichigo, he asks Byakuya “who is he?” Byakuya tells Ukitake “He has no relation to the man you’re thinking of” (referring to Kaien) the subtitles were messed up that scene so that’s the right translation. Also remember back in the world of the living Byakuya says “This kid looks a lot like him” he was referring to Kaien. Also shoutout to Ron for his theories and predictions and putting the pieces together about Ganju and Kaien. Everything that has been shown thus far he literally got it right. Just goes to show Ron really loves Bleach I love how episode 51 starts especially with the first ost that plays which is one of my top favorite osts. It’s so eerie and then the beeping sounds, reminds me of Morse code. That ost reminds me so much of the soul society arc

Maybe a hot take, but Ukitake sucks. Standing by as your Lt gets possessed and killed, pride or not, is a pretty crap move for a leader.

I’ve only watched bleach once. Loved it and enjoyed it. I have re-watched certain episodes that I know are awesome. Watching now as I’m probably 10 years older than the last time I watched this I’m catching so much more details and bleach is honestly even better to me. The second go around than it was the first and I know how peak bleach is I love this show. It’s always been my top 10. I’m just enjoying it more than I expected and I have forgotten so many small things. R and G. Bleach is complicated in my opinion has the hardest names to remember of any anime I have ever seen or any show I have ever seen some names not at all. I’m never gonna ever forget someone named Chad. Lmao honestly at this point, don’t even try to cook until you get to a good stopping point for your thoughts to collect it’s just simply not possible for you guys to try to do your average predicting. This show is more complicated in a lot of ways than most anime (imo). Not complicated like math where you can’t understand anything until you are finally told or taught just in the way the story is written and how many details go to so many things. I connected three dots this episode. I completely forgot about or didn’t even acknowledge my first go around watching this. Bleach is juuuust to the point where you really gotta pay attention and you’ll soon piece together details from episodes like this and every episode honestly how crazy deep bleach gets. Like I just remembered three things and I totally forgot and would’ve never remembered if it wasn’t for me watching bleach with you guys right now.

That HAD TO BE JIRAIYA VA. I don’t remember that Naruto was airing at the time. I was introduced it so maybe he was just trying to get more gigs getting on bleach I’m sure it’s huge as a voice actor specially with multiple lines. Maybe he was working on something else kind of delicate with his voice to a project. That has to be him it’s cool to know that he was probably going to get his gig as Jiraiya soon after this gig. I feel like since these are two different entities. I wanna be respectful and give the name of the voice actor Hōchū Ōtsuka. Born in the year 1954 (age 71 years), born in Tsuyama, Okayama. I want a decent amount about him was his voice acting he actually voices three characters in bleach and including this all and a character that is in this episode even though I don’t know if he’s voicing him at this time this is not spoiler anything he could easily just say here it is But I like to leave mystery. He definitely was not struggling looking for a gig. He is in so many things even currently still voice acting. What a awesome guy his debut show does not mention you cannot figure it out once you deep dive then you might possibly figure it out, but he’s been voice acting for many decades is obviously a very famous voice actor in Japan and he has dubbed (from English to Japanese not what we’re used to we’re used to the opposite ) on extremely famous American movies i think Star Wars was on there usual plays, main roles or very prevalent side characters. This man is a GOAT

15:33 that already happened during Memories in the Rain episode where Ichigo fought Grand Fisher, the hollow which killed his mom. We did see the flashback of Ukitake saying the same lines back then. I love Kaien so much, he's one of the thematic core of Bleach.
