Original Dragon Ball Z pacing is pretty slow, thats why there is DBZ: Kai which is a more faithful version to the manga on top of better dubbing and pacing.

Your just glazing the old dub because its nostalgic, thats literally the reason they did kai in the first place the same reason their remaking super. OG DbZ dub changed character lines and had cringe ones. In the original dub Vegeta even calls (spoiler) gokus dad a scientist. You serious?! If you wanna talk OG DBZ then watch the sub the dub is an abomination and quite frankly disrespectful to the original source material. Inform yourself next time. ✌️

In dragon ball z there is a legendary poor paced series of episode where it’s joked about a lot. Minor spoiler, it takes a certain character to do a certain thing for multiple episodes 😂😂😂

I feel like people started complaining about pacing after anime became a thing that you can stream or find and watch easily .. before when u had to catch it on tv, have a site or watching clip by clip on YouTube you didn’t hear too many complaints about pacing.. what some complained about was fillers .. or on tv it would play half way thru an arc then start from episode one the next day 😢😂 ..

I think Dragon Ball gets treated differently because it isn’t just another anime anymore—it’s one of the foundations of modern shonen. But looking specifically at the U.S., the Big Three had a very different introduction. Naruto was the one American audiences seemed to gravitate toward the most early on, especially through Toonami, while One Piece got badly hurt by the infamous 4Kids dub (seriously, reactors should watch it because it’s hilarious 😂), and Bleach was more of a niche series when it first came out, so a lot of people simply never experienced Soul Society when it was airing. And it’s funny because all three were being judged and criticized heavily even during their early breakout arcs: Naruto with Land of Waves/Chunin Exams, One Piece with Baratie/Arlong Park, and Bleach with Soul Society. Meanwhile, Dragon Ball had already established itself as an iconic franchise before the internet era of YouTube essays, Reddit debates, reaction channels, powerscaling, and dissecting every writing decision. So Dragon Ball and even Yu Yu Hakusho benefit from legacy and nostalgia, while the Big Three grew up alongside a much more critical anime fandom. That’s why I think Dragon Ball isn’t necessarily given a “pass”—it’s just viewed as an institution of anime history, whereas Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach were treated as competitors that people could constantly debate and criticize.

10:24 lol yeah the One Piece sound effect (or I should say Dragon ball sound effect😂) I pointed this out in one of the earlier episodes. I guess this is where One Piece got it from. Dragon ball and One Piece are both done by Toei animation so maybe that has something to do with it. I think everyone brings up the pacing with One Piece since it’s so long so naturally there’s a lot to cover and Oda has a certain writing style. The topic of pacing is the main thing with it but the pay off is worth it. Ron “It didn’t feel like filler” well I got news for you lol 😂 we back to canon next ep though

I think its what Michelle said about the humor that people dont complain much.. even tho the past few episodes you watched are fillers they are still funny and the actual pacing inside the episodes is not that bad if you compare it to one piece where there are episodes that nothing happens at all plus the episode list. Like one piece have like 1200 but db and dbz altogether around 500 and dbz is even more packed than db you could say db is the early one piece

I loved the DB series and Naruto, Boruto but I cant get into bleach and one piece, mostly because of the art style that bothers me.

In my opinion, I understand why people (especially manga fans) want them to skip episodes, but the reality, whether you like it or not, is that they are ALL part of the anime. They’re not extra episodes that were added later or anything like that. If they’re going to watch the ANIME, they should watch every episode exactly as it was originally made. And yes, obviously, if they’re only doing 3 episodes a week, this is going to take forever, and it’ll be months before they reach some of the parts we all want to see. But skipping "filler" episodes, as some people say, really shouldn’t be an option. If you watch the anime for the first time, you watch it as it was originally made. I also think it’s a shame they’re not watching it in Japanese, because I’m sorry, but the English dub is awful in some scenes. There are so many moments where the scenes just make absolutely no sense... you just sit there staring at the screen like an idiot thinking, “What?” And just to be clear, this isn’t a criticism of the English dub specifically; the same thing happens in my languages too. But oh well, it is what it is. 🤷‍♀️

My opinion is this, if you are enjoying the episodes...WATCH THEM! Some anime fans have unique perspectives when it comes to watching and honestly, the only reason they are afforded that is because no one tried to tell them HOW to watch them. My enjoyment is watching you two have fun during these episodes. This era of the show is so much fun, filler or no. As for the future, you guys will sort it out. You will certainly get waaaay more content out of straight DBZ but as one of the older crowd, I will point out that a lot of those episodes are artificially bloated and meaningless. On the flip, the negative of Kai for me is that it's too fast, and feels rushed. I probably prefer a balance of the two, honestly but let your hearts guide you. I have a feeling based on your early reactions so far, you guys will want to get every ounce of it! Thanks for sharing, keep your heads up during these tough times.

People don't complain about DB pacing because of how old it is. One piece has no excuses to be like this in this day and age. But yeah, DB, specially DBZ pacing is EXTREMELY slow. Don't forget it is the father of the big 3 in all senses.

uh one thing about why people think one piece is long is because Naruto has about 720 to 1000 episodes but people see it as naruto - 220 shippuden - 500 boruto - 300 dragonball combined has like 600 but people see it as dragonball 153 dbz 291 dbs 131 but one piece is seen as one piece 1000+ lots of people (prob like u guys too )start dragonball knowing theres 153 episodes and get hooked then with more research realize the whole thing all together is a 600 episode seres) while one piece u see 1000+ off the bat without sections

Yes there are a few mistakes, no one is denying that, and yes it does stretch the story, but you have no idea what you are talking about if you say KAI is better, OG DBZ is better in terms of music and dialogue and VA, and you guys that are telling people to watch KAI are ruining their experience for one of the best animes, stop it.
