Hi friends,

sometimes I use some natural harmonics for my arrangements so I prepared a series of lessons about them. Let's start with this three examples.

A small diamond to the right of the numbers in the tablature indicates a natural  harmonic.

Technique

A harmonic is a  chime-like tone produced by lightly touching a string with a finger and then  removing the finger at the instant the string is plucked.

To get a strong and clear harmonic sound the right-hand finger plucks the string near the bridge of the guitar.

Natural harmonics are played on open strings with the most  common being at the 5th, 7th and 12th frets. Other natural harmonics can be played  at the 3rd, 4th, 9th and 16th frets but the tone quality is poor and difficult  to produce in actual playing conditions.

Good playing!

Hi Nick, This exercise will definitely provide me with a few hours of enjoyment, I never played so many harmonics in a row, ;-). The melody reminds me of my door chime, and an old movie of my youth, ''Encounter of the Third Kind''. All I need are some flashing coloured lights, and an alien translator for the harmonics to say '' I love fingerstyle'' . lolol. movie link to trailer at min 1:02 https://youtu.be/DMTvyrUewck

Almost Chrismasy, hmmm, I'm hearing a novel "Carol of the Bells" arrangement in my head. Thanks for the hints, I didn't know about plucking near the bridge.
